  • The purposes of this study were to identify the degree of postprandial blood pressure reduction and the prevalence of postprandial hypotension by 3 different mealtimes of elderly people diagnosed with hypertension in nursing homes. After the informed and written consent, a total of 187 elderly people were recruited in the study. Systolic BP, diastolic BP were measured with ambulatory BP monitor every 15 minutes interval from 30 minutes before a meal until 120 minutes after each meal. The maximum SBP reduction was significantly bigger at breakfast than lunchtime or dinnertime. Among 187 elders, 137(73.4%) showed PPH at breakfast, 103(54.2%) at lunchtime, and 96(50.2%) at dinnertime. The most prevalent time point of PPH was 90 minutes after the initiation of a meal in all of 3 mealtimes. Among 8 measurement times, the prevalence of PPH was significantly higher in breakfast (3.0±2.7 times) than both lunchtime (2.1±2.5 times) and dinnertime (1.9±2.4 times). Although the occurrence of PPH by every mealtime should be taken into account in caring for the elderly, postprandial BP measurements need more attention after breakfast. Nurses should develop appropriate nursing interventions that can prevent postprandial blood pressure reduction in elderly people with hypertension.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the predictors of impulsive behavior, self esteem, and depression on school adjustment of adolescents. The original data were collected using questionnaire from the sample of 415 middle school students selected by convenient sampling. The data were collected from October 1 to November 30, 2010. The data was conducted by using a correlations coefficient and the hierarchical regression. The major findings of this study were as follows. Firstly, the school adjustment correlates with the impulsiveness(r= -.53), the self esteem(r= .51), and the depression(r= -.56). Secondly, the school adjustment was significantly associated with academic performance, impulsiveness, self esteem, and depression, which explained 51.8% of variance in school adjustment. These results may contribute to a better understanding of impulsiveness, self esteem, depression, and school adjustment of adolescents. Therefore, programs for prompting adolescents's school adjustment should be a planned based on results of the study.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the facility adaptation characteristics, and the relationship between facility adaptation and the potential affective factors; ADL, self-efficacy, and quality of care facility, and to identify the affective factors on facility adaptation for elders in long-term care facility. Data were collected from 177 none dementia elders over 65 in 9 long-term care facilities from Jan.2, 2011 to March 15, 2011. The data were analysed through t/F test, correlation coefficient, and multiple regression (stepwise). The major findings of this study were as follow; Facility adaptation shows significant difference from admission decision maker(p=.004), religion(p=.027), and motive of admission(p=.009). And facility adaptation has weakly correlated with ADL and quality of care facility. The affective adaptation factors were decision maker, motive of admission, personal interview, religion, and perceived health status, but showed 22.8% of explanation. Thus the findings from this study could be used as bases for nursing intervention supporting elders' care facility adaptation.

  • This study was to investigate the factors affecting the obstetric outcomes of married immigrant women and to compare the results with the Korean women's and to provide basic data for establishing effective nursing interventions for the married immigrant women. The subjects were 302 married immigrant women and Korean women who were delivered in the university hospital from 2011 to 2015. Data were analyzed using frequency, mean, standard deviation and logistic regression using SPSS WIN 24.0 program. Factors affecting obstetric outcome were premature rupture of membranes, gestational hypertension, amniotic fluid abnormalities, and medical illness in both married immigrant women and Korean women. In addition, age, spouse's age, occupation, hemoglobin level, and placental abnormality were found to have an effect on obstetrical outcome in married immigrant women. Therefore, in order to improve the obstetric outcome of married immigrant women, a prenatal care program considering these influencing factors will be needed.

This research was based on 304 nursing students in B and Y city. Data were collected from May 8 to May 13, 2017 and analyzed by ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression using SPSS/WIN 22.0. The average college life adaptation value was $3.21{\pm}0.53$. There were positive correlations between college life adaptation and ego resilience (r=0.443, p<0.001), interpersonal relationships (r=0.400, p<0.001) and cognitive emotion regulation strategies (r=0.465, p<0.001). Regression analysis revealed that 46.2% of the variance in college life adaptation by nursing students could be explained by grade, major satisfaction, ego resilience, and cognitive emotion regulation strategies. Additional studies to determine the various factors affecting adaptation of nursing students to college life and to increase college life adaptation should be conducted.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare depression and quality of life(QOL) according to the severity of insomnia in elderly. Method: The survey participants were 463 community-dwelling adults aged 65 or older. Severity of insomnia was measured by assessing a time-length to get to sleep, the number of breaks in sleep, a time-length to get to sleep after awakening, and a usual sleep pattern. Depression and QOL was measured, respectively, a modified Zung's depression scale and SF-36. The data were collected from May to June in 2005 and analyzed using the SPSS program for descriptive statistics, ${\chi}^2$-test, t-test, and ANOVA with Scheffe test. Results: A majority of the participants(75.6%) presented mild(65.0%) or severe(10.6%) insomnia. Severity of insomnia was different depending on sex, a marriage status, and sleep patterns such as hours of sleep on average, time to go to bed, and time of awakening(p<0.05). Depression and QOL were related to the severity of insomnia(p<0.05). The elderly suffering from insomnia needs nursing interventions considering demographics and sleep patterns in oder to prevent depression and to improve QOL. Future research is in need for predicting and preventing depression and QOL in elderly.
