  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of simulation practice combining problem-based learning on nursing knowledge, self-confidence, critical thinking tendency and problem solving ability. The subjects of this study were 45 students who took two courses of nursing situation practice in the fourth grade of S university in S area. Data were collected before and after the simulation exercise using the self-report questionnaire. The problem-based learning and the simulation practice convergence training were conducted for three weeks with two hours per week, and the post- integration nursing knowledge, self-confidence, critical thinking disposition, and problem solving ability scores were improved. Nursing knowledge, self-confidence, and critical thinking tendency were positively correlated with problem solving ability and proved the effectiveness of problem-based learning and simulation training. Therefore, education programs combining problem-based learning and simulation training on various topics should be developed and utilized.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of problem solving ability and critical thinking disposition on communication competency of nursing students. The subjects of this study were 289 students at two universities located in C and G province. The collected data were analyzed by multiple regression analysis. The results showed that communication competency of nursing students was positively correlated with problem solving ability and critical thinking disposition. Communication competency was explained 40.6% of the variance in critical thinking and problem solving ability. Therefore, in order to improve the communication competency of nursing students, it is necessary to develop an educational program that improves critical thinking disposition and problem solving ability.

  • This study was done to develop and validate a path model for the causal relationship of nursing information literacy competency and problem solving, self-direct learning, and clinical performance ability of nursing students. Subject were 208 nursing students in the fourth grade of nursing school. Data were collected from June 4 to June 18, 2018. The nursing information literacy competency of nursing students showed direct effects on problem solving ability (${\gamma}=.70$, p<.001) and direct effects on self-directed learning ability (${\gamma}=.53$, p<.001). Nursing information literacy competency showed direct (${\gamma}=.31$, p<.001) and indirect effects (${\gamma}=.31$, p=.007) on clinical performance ability. These variables explained for 46.2% of clinical performance ability. Therefore, it is recommended to develop an education program that can enhance the nursing information literacy competency for improving the problem solving, self-directed learning, and clinical performance ability of nursing students.

  • This study is a descriptive research designed to determine the effects of self-leadership and goal commitment on nursing students' problem-solving ability. For this purpose, the study made a questionnaire survey of 201 students attending at 4 nursing colleges located in B metropolitan city and D city. Data collected from the survey were analyzed using SPSS/WIN 21. The findings of this study can be summarized as follows. First, participants showed significant differences in nursing students' problem-solving ability on age, grade and major satisfaction. Second, there were correlations between self-leadership and nursing students' problem-solving ability and also between their goal commitment and problem-solving ability. Third, nursing students' problem-solving ability was most influenced by their self-leadership, followed by goal commitment and age in order. Therefore it is needed to provide nursing students with educational and interventive programs that help their better self-leadership and goal commitment of it.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the correlation of critical thinking disposition and problem solving process, and the simulation- based assessment of clinical competence based on a survey of college nursing students. Methods: In this descriptive correlation study, data for 214 nursing students were analyzed using t-test and Pearson correlation coefficients. Results: Critical thinking disposition, problem solving process, and simulation-based assessment of clinical competence averaged $3.76{\pm}0.46$ (out of 5), $3.67{\pm}0.47$ (5), and $1.51{\pm}0.17$ (2), respectively. A significant difference in scores for simulation-based assessment of clinical competence was found between the high-scoring group and low-scoring group in critical thinking disposition. A significant positive correlation was found between critical thinking disposition and nursing assessment, a sub-domain of clinical competence. Conclusion: The results suggest that success in simulation-based learning requires critical thinking disposition in the nursing students, and their critical thinking disposition plays a positive role in nursing assessment, which evaluates the patient's status in a complex situation. Simulation-based learning programs help assess the students' levels in their clinical judgement and performance, and identify their strengths and weaknesses so that the instructor can evaluate and improve the current teaching method.

  • This study was attempted to verify the mediating effect of perceived interaction in the relationship between learning flow and problem-solving confidence of nursing students who experienced team-based nursing practice learning. The subjects of this study were 148 senior nursing students who experienced team-based nursing practice learning classes. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire. For data analysis, descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation analysis, hierarchical multiple regression analysis, and Sobel test were conducted. The results of the study showed that nursing students' learning flow was 3.58±0.56 points, perceived interaction was 4.06±0.56 points, and problem-solving confidence was 3.67±0.53 points on average. Learning flow of nursing students showed a positive correlation with perceived interaction(r=0.63, p<.001) and problem-solving confidence(r=0.74, p<.001). Perceived interaction showed a partial mediating effect in the relationship between learning flow and problem-solving confidence(z=5.31, p<.001). It may be necessary to develop programs to improve nursing students' learning flow, perceived interaction, and problem-solving confidence, and to improve their clinical practice ability to solve nursing problems in various nursing settings.

  • This study was attempted to understand the effects of emotional intelligence and positive psychological capital on problem-solving ability of nursing students. This study was conducted on 193 nursing college students located in C and J cities from March 11 to May 31, 2021. Using the SPSS/WIN 21.0 program, descriptive stastistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient and multiple regression were analyzed. As a result of the study, the factors affecting problem-solving ability were emotional intelligence, interpersonal satisfaction, and self efficacy and resiliency among the sub-factors of positive psychological capital, in that order, and the explanatory power was 61.7% (F=31.606, p=.000). Based on this study, the problem-solving ability of nursing students development and application of programs to improve positive psychological capital, emotional intelligence, and interpersonal relationships are required.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of simulation integrated with problem based learning(SIM-PBL) on nursing students. A non-equivalent pre-post test of quasi-experimental design was used. 37 were assigned to an intervention group and 41 to a control group. SIM-PBL was applied to intervention group and simulation was applied to control group. Data were analyzed using the SPSS 20.0 program. There were significant increases in system thinking(t=2.14, p=.036), proactivity in problem solving(t=2.07, p=.042), and performance ability for medication(t=5.26, p=<.001) in the intervention group compared to the control group. However, there was no difference in learning flow between the intervention and control groups. In order to adapt to the clinical setting, it is necessary to consider the SIM-PBL needs to be considered in the curriculum of nursing students.
