  • This study is concerned about activation factor and characteristic of street design through survey that in Tokyo, Japan. The factor is largely distinguished form physical and non physical factors, these are institution programs, circulation of goods, space programs as culture and history, and they are form of city, structures, street, open spaces, trees, street furnitures. The investigation about sites that Shinjuku, Shibuya, Harajuku, Ueno, and Ikebukuro, is resulted in dose-by public transportation, concerned with historic relationship, and increased in special experience of life. It is caused from controlling the law and rules, and making the sufficient infrastructures, and protecting a policy, and specializing with brand effect and place-marketing. The Street furniture emphasize to making street design. This conclusion is that involving physical and non physical factors, activate street design in making places.

  • The affection-image is the close-up of the face with real connections in space-time, or with virtual conjunction, outside spatio-temporal co-ordinates. The close-up can carry its own space-time in background. with deframing and fragmentation, Space itself has left behind its own space-time connection and become any-space-whatever that is the affection-image. The elements of any-space-whatever are the shadows, lyrical abstraction, the colors, the disconnected parts, the empty space. Deleuze examines any-space-whatever through the close ups, fragmentation of space and de-framing in Dreyer and Bresson's cinema.

  • For a Tychonoff space X, C(X) is a Riesz-space. It is well known that C(X) is order-Cauchy complete if and only if X is a quasi~F space and that if X is a compact space and QF(X) is a minimal quasi-F cover of X, then the order- Cauchy completion of C(X) is isomorphic to C(QF(X)). In this paper, we investigate motivations and historical backgrounds of the definition for quasi-spaces and the construction for minimal quasi-F covers.

  • Shopping malls have been developed to increase sales revenue and attract visitors. This study focused on the sense of the outdoor characteristics of these shopping malls by comparing open and enclosed types of shopping malls in common spaces in LA and Korea through case study analyses. This research through case studies will form the foundation of comfortable shopping mall space design. The results are the follows. 1. Enclosed shopping malls tend to provide large indoor space to create a sense of outdoors. 2. The common space of enclosed shopping malls is developed through space expansion with horizontal and vertical connections that appear in different combinations depending on the space constraints and contexts. 3. The architectural planning of enclosed shopping malls are largely dependent on the concept of everyday life portrayed in the identity of each space, which usually involve the inclusion of sizable atriums to host indoor sports or special performances.

  • If we look at Korea's urbanization since 1960, only the urban communities like buildings have developed, yet the resting places for human itself have been ignored. Many people continuously felt alienated especially after the mechanization and started to demand for better living space. For that reason, it is essential for us to develop the resting places for human among the buildings in urban areas and these resting places could form the basis of new community. We have researched on street furniture and citizen's behavior pattern in resting places through references and internet surfing to propose a design concept for a new resting place and street furniture, Therefore, we would like to design a resting place in urban area considering human, community and environment. As a result, we have designed a resting place where citizens could interact with surrounding environment and let office workers enjoy the nature among the buildings in this resting place. People could always stop by and take some rose by enjoying the surrounding nature. The resting place consists of 5 zones- public square, environmental zone, communication zone, technology zone, and entertainment zone. Each zone has its own design motif to lead systematic street furniture and site planning. The resting place is formed in a specific region which is a prototype of a resting environment in urban areas in the future and it could be reassigned according to its regional condition.

  • This study analyzed an impact relationship between the variable of street based on the walking enhancement factors and the street revitalization. In detail, walking enhancement factors include a physical environment, accessibility and a density which was derived from previous studies. In addition, This study also analyzed the diversity of the profession which was emphasized by Jacobs(1961) and the influence of the specific space on street revitalization that was emphasized by Ray Oldenburg (1989) and Richard MacCormac (1983). The anlaysis by types showed the walking enhancement factors, including street envirnoment, accessibility, density and diversity, which were emphasized by Jacobs(1961) possessed similararites between weekdays and weekends. On contrast, the spatial distribution of stores showed a major difference of influences on street revitalization between weekdays and weekends as Ray Oldenburg (1989) and Richard MacComac (1983) has insisted.

  • This study aims to view the architectural space of the postmodern era as a concept of continuous change without being fixed, and to understand the spatial elements in architecture with a changing network of relationships. The purpose of the study is to analyze the spatial composition strategies of the two architects while revealing the spatial characteristics shown in Rem Kolhaas and SANAA's works in terms of relativity. The method of the study defines the meaning of non-fixed relationships through theoretical considerations of relativity and then looks at the architectural approaches of Rem Kollhaas and SANAA. The relationship was divided into programs, environments, users, and furniture and furniture in the space and analyzed the works of the two architects. As a result, both architects are similar in that they reject rigid programs by organization and use potentially inherent relationships for building space activation purposes, while Rem Koolhaas uses the user's behavior-inducing strategy, while SANAA uses the user's relaxation strategy.
