Fast Light Source Estimation Technique for Effective Synthesis of Mixed Reality Scene (효과적인 혼합현실 장면 생성을 위한 고속의 광원 추정 기법)

  • One of the fundamental elements in developing mixed reality applications is to effectively analyze and apply the environmental lighting information to image synthesis. In particular, interactive applications require to process dynamically varying lighting sources in real-time, reflecting them properly in rendering results. Previous related works are not often appropriate for this because they are usually designed to synthesize photorealistic images, generating too many, often exponentially increasing, light sources or having too heavy a computational complexity. In this paper, we present a fast light source estimation technique that aims to search for primary light sources on the fly from a sequence of video images taken by a camera equipped with a fisheye lens. In contrast to previous methods, our technique can adust the number of found light sources approximately to the size that a user specifies. Thus, it can be effectively used in Phong-illumination-model-based direct illumination or soft shadow generation through light sampling over area lights.

  • CVE(Collaborative Virtual Environment) is the virtually shared area where people cannot come together physically, but wish to discuss, collaborate on, or even dispute certain matters. In CVEs, in habitants are usually represented by humanoid embodiments, generally referred to as avatars. But most current graphical CVE systems fail to reflect the natural relationship between the avatar's gesture and the conversation that is taking place. More than 65% of the information exchanged during a person to person conversation is carried on the nonverbal band. Therefore, it is expected to be beneficial to provide such communication channels in CVEs in some way. To address this issue, this study proposes a scheme to represent avatar's gestures that can support the CVE users' communication. In the first level, this study classifies the non-verbal communication forms that can be applicable to avatar gesture design. In the second level, this study categorizes the body language according to the types of interaction with verbal language. And in the third level, this study examines gestures with relevant verbal expressions according to the body parts-from head to feet. One bodily gesture can be analyzed in the description of gesture representation, the meaning of gesture and the possible expressions, which can be used in gestural situation.

  • The paper proposes information system for providing proper well known delicious restaurants as interactions with users. The system calls 'Moloke', which is an agent for recommending sensitive information on mobile environment The proposing agent differs from existing ones that guide the telephone number and the name of the restaurant. The differences are as following goals. First, the agent gets existing from users as interactive communications on mobile devices through the proper requests on each time zone such as morning, afternoon, and evening. Second, the agent also can recommend a specific restaurant for current personal states such as parties, special community meetings, bio-rhythms and so on. Among them, specially the bio-rhythm is used for recommending proper restaurants to each user. In addition to through proposal suitable design for the mobile agent design more effectively. The research used mobile environment for recommendation service and web environment for data management. Server environment for service used Apache, PHP4, Mysql and mobile page was implemented m-html for approach. Mobile Service was optimized Mozilla-1.22, KUN-1.2.3 Browser

A TDMA-based Relay Protocol for Voice Communication on a Small Group (소규모 그룹에서의 음성 통신을 위한 TDMA 기반의 릴레이 프로토콜)

  • Since the wireless communications have a limited transmission, the devices just around a master node can exchange data. Though Bluetooth and Zigbee support ad hoc, they are not appropriate for real-time voice communications. In this paper, we present a TDMA-based relay protocol for several users to communicate simultaneously. The proposed protocol can relay data or voice to other nodes in real-time by the multi-hop transmission method using TDMA. And the proposed protocol improves the network performance by allocating different frequencies to the slaves depending on the routing path scheduled by the routing table. NS-2 simulation shows that the performance of the proposed protocol is good in terms of the transmission delay and pecket loss probability in the real-time voice transmission.

  • This study deals with the content that was developed by the authors and the utilization of the 'Interactive Engineering Math Laboratory (IEmath Lab).' IEmath Lab provides online review lectures as well as a wide range of examples and exercises from the curriculum of engineering mathematics courses. The lectures come with pre-coded Python-based SageMath cells through which students can run and modify the code directly from this free laboratory. IEmath Lab is accessible via mobile devices so that the students can use it anywhere, anytime for maximum learning effectiveness and achievement. IEmath Lab would be an ideal tool for the effective learning and teaching of engineering mathematics, which combines theory and practice.

A Case Study on the Nonverbal Immediacy of the Robot (로봇의 비언어적 즉시성에 대한 사례연구)

  • Nonverbal immediacy plays a key role in interpersonal communication, inducing closeness and another interaction. This case study investigates the nonverbal behaviors in Human-Robot Interaction(HRI) focusing on immediacy, and how they affect perception of a robot. The results show that nonverbal immediacy, such as nodding and leaning forward, affect perceived interactivity. Nonverbal immediacy can be interpreted their meaning clearly when verbal feedback or other communication channel reinforcing them. Also, touch is found to affect come up with similar ones to the robot, because it is associated with concrete and discrete context. People tend to apply social rules to the robot, but they are more open to the unfamiliar robot compared to strangers. The findings in this study provide future HRI studies with heuristic implications by showing a direction and clarifying principles for composition of verbal and nonverbal expression.

Enhancement of SMB Global Compentency for Overseas Market Entry (중소기업 해외시장 진출활성화를 위한 글로벌역량 제고)

  • In the era of globalization, small and medium sized businesses (SMBs) are striving to attain competitive advantage in the rapidly changing and diversified markets. It is necessary for SMBs to enhance their global compentency in order to successfully enter overseas markets. In an attempt to shed light on how closely an SMB's global competency is related to how efficiently their employees can perform their tasks in the overseas market, this study examined the nature of English use in oral communication by twelve Korean men working in Dubai. Questionnaires and recordings were used to collect the data. The results show that English competency plays a crucial role in work efficiency in the overseas business context. Also, superior oral skills are considered the most important in doing business as it is the most frequently required form of communication. Participants of the study showed a tendency to make up for their lack of communicative competency by using various strategies. They tried to avoid communication breakdown by all means in order to get the task done.

An Interactive Monitoring Application for Secure Experiments of Guidance System for Person with Visual Impairment (시각장애인 보행지원 시스템의 안전한 실험을 위한 대화식 모니터링 어플리케이션)

  • In previous study, we developed a guidance system outdoors for person with visual impairment to be able to walk safely to the destination. The volunteers are exposed to dangerous situations since they are performed to the experiments in the outdoors. In order to solve the problem, we propose an interactive application that monitors the volunteer wearing guidance system and warns remotely the volunteer about dangerous situations. The application is used to remote wireless communication with guidance system through Bluetooth module that is built in a laptop computer, without additional device. Therefore, we can monitor in real time user's location and guided contents to user, and it is possible to check a path to the destination and POI (Point of Interest) coordinate values. As using a proposed monitoring application, it is possible to perform safe experiment with the rapid situation awareness and fast detection of dangerous.

  • Artificial Intelligence is one of the technologies that are being discussed in the Fourth Industrial Revolution, attracting the attention from companies around the world and this technology is being applied to various industries such as education, finance, automobile, etc. AI integrated ChatBot is a system designed to respond to user questions according to defined response rules. This system is gradually expanded from simple inquiry responses for intelligent virtual assistant service, weather, traffic, schedule, etc. to service provisions through user pattern analysis, to solidify its position as a life-style service. As a result, research on AI integrated ChatBot platform has become necessary. Therefore, this study suggests the design and implementation of an intelligent chatbot service platform for small businesses.
