Refining is one of the most important processes of fiber treatment that provides optical and physical properties of final paper products. The evaluation method of refining progress is usually freeness (CSF) or wetness (SR) test because of its rapidity and convenience. However, there are some deficiencies in using freeness or wetness test to evaluate pulp fibers accurately because its results are more influenced by fines contents than extent of fibers treatment. The objective of this study is to show the deficiency of wetness in evaluating the refining process. For this, beating is done by varying the beating load. Handsheets are made after beating until 25 and $32^{\circ}C$ SR, and then paper properties are measured. Refined fibers are analyzed by fiber length, fines contents, curl, kink, WRV, and zero-span tensile strength. The results show that longer beating time is required to reach the same wetness at lower beating load. There are differences in the average fiber length, distribution curve of fiber length, fines contents, curl, kink, WRV of long fiber fraction, drainage time, and zero-span tensile strength of rewetted sample at different beating load. At the low beating load in the same wetness, apparent density, breaking length, burst strength, and tear strength are higher, while opacity and air permeability are lower than those of the high beating load. Using Page s equation, which shows the relationship among tensile strength, intrinsic fiber strength, and interfiber bonding strength, interfiber bonding strength is calculated and analyzed to explain final paper properties. At $25^{\circ}C$ SR, interfiber bonding strength is only slightly higher at 2.5kgf beating load, while the intrinsic fiber strength is substantially higher. At $32^{\circ}C$ SR, intrinsic fiber strength is a little bit higher at 2.5kgf beating load, and interfiber bonding strength is remarkably higher than those of 5.6kgf beating load. These results can be used to explain the different properties of the final paper at selected beating loads.
Objectives : The aim of present study was to evaluate the beneficial effect of Scutellariae Radix (SR) and Scutellariae Radix EtOH-heated at 200℃ (SR200) using lipopolysaccharide (LPS) treated intestine of mice. Methods : Extract of SR and SR200 were orally administrated. Their effects were compared with vehicletreated LPS and normal groups. Subsequently, we measured reactive oxygen species (ROS) and nitric oxide in the serum and western blotting in the intestine. Results : The average weight in LPS treated (Vehicle) group was lowered significantly compare to that in non-treated normal group and this weight loss in the vehicle group was effectively prevented by the administration of SR and SR200 respectively. The increased oxidative stress biomarker levels such as reactive oxygen species (ROS) and nitric oxide (NO) in the serum was markedly decreased by treated with SR200. The decreased levels of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) induced by LPS injection were significantly restored by both SR and SR200 treatment. Moreover, increased inflammatory mediators and cytokines such as inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) in the LPS treated vehicle mice were significantly decreased through down-regulation c-JUN through reduction of oxidative stress. Conclusions : SR and SR200 could have benefit effect through down-regulation of abnormal oxidative stress in LPS induced intestine injury mice. Moreover, The anti-inflammatory activity of SR200 extract was better than SR extract in the LPS induced intestine injury mice.

In a Pb-included piezoelectric composition, $Sr_yPb_{1-y}[(Zn_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})_x-(Ni_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})_{0.2}-(Zr_{0.46}Ti_{0.54})_{0.8-x}]O_3$ was selected in order to attain high piezoelectric properties. According to the PZN ratio (x) and the amount of Sr doping (y), the crystal structure, microstructure and piezoelectric properties were measured and evaluated. In the case of Sr 4 mol% doping, the piezoelectric properties were the highest for a PZN ratio of 0.1. In this condition, the grain size was larger and the intensity was higher. With the PZN ratio fixed and varying the Sr doping, the piezoelectric properties increased until 10 mol% doping and then decreased for over 12 mol% doping. In the case of x=0.1 and y=10 mol%, the best piezoelectric properties were obtained, i.e., $d_{33}=660pC/N$ and $k_p=68.5%$, and these values seem to be related to the grain size and crystal structure.
Inhibitory effect of Scutellaria baicalensis ethanol extracts (SR) on chemical mediator release and immunoglobulin (Ig) production from Sprague-Dawley rats originated cells as type I allergic reaction was examined. SR showed concentration-dependent inhibition on basal and concanavalin A (ConA)-stimulated Ig production. In the mesenteric lymph node lymphocytes, the inhibitory effect of SR on the IgE production in the presence of Con A was stronger than these on IgA and IgG production. Moreover, tumor necrosis factor-alpha $(TNF-{\alpha})$ production-inhibiting effect of SR in the presence ConA was observed. However, SR did not affect the production of $interferon-{\gamma}$. SR also inhibited histamine release from the peritoneal exudate cells stimulated with a calcium ionophore A23187. In the case of leukotriene B4, SR markedly inhibited it at the concentration of 100 mg/ml. From these results, ethanol extracts obtained from Scutellaria baicalensis may have an anti-allergic effect on the intestinal system of rats.
The $Sr_1-_xY_xMnO_3$ (x = 0.0∼1.0) system was synthesized using amorphous citrate process. The stability of various structures and the electronic transport properties of this system were investigated. X-ray diffraction study indicated that the $Sr_1-_xY_xMnO_3$ system has three different structures depending on composition, namely, 4L-hexagonal perovskite (when x is less than 0.3), pseudocubic perovskite (when x is 0.3∼0.7), and hexagonal nonperovskite (when x is larger than 0.7) structures. The structural changes and electronic properties were interpreted based on two factors, i.e., the size of cations and the oxidation state of manganese ion. When the concentration of Y substitution exceeds 30%, the Mn-Mn repulsive interaction dominates over intermetallic attraction, and thus structure changes to pseudocubic perovskite. In perovskite phase the unit cell dimensions increases with increasing $Mn^{3+}$ ions due to yttrium substitution. The band gap of $Sr_{0.9}Y_{0.1}MnO_3$ is greater than that of $Sr_{0.5}Y_{0.5}MnO_3$. The greater band gap of $Sr_{0.9}Y_{0.1}MnO_3$ indicates that the 4L-hexagonal structure is more stabilized than cubic perovskite due to the Mn-Mn bond.
We studied the effect of the variation of the lattice constant on the electrical properties of $SrRuO_3$ thin films. In order to obtain films with different volumes, we varied the substrate temperature and oxygen pressure during the growth of the films on $SrTiO_3$ (001) substrates. The films were grown using a pulsed laser deposition method. The X-ray diffraction patterns of the grown films at low temperature and low oxygen pressure indicated the elongation of the c-axis lattice constant compared to that of the films grown at a higher temperature and higher oxygen pressure. The in-plane strain states are maintained for all of the films, implying the expansion of the unit-cell volume by the oxygen vacancies. The variation of the electrical resistance reflects the temperature dependence of the resistivity of the metal, with a ferromagnetic transition temperature inferred form the cusp of the curve being observed in the range from 110 K to 150 K. As the c-axis lattice constant decreases, the transition temperature linearly increases.
Atrial fibrillation[Af] is closely related to thrombus in left atrium, systemic embolism, and loss of the contribution of atrial contraction to cardiac output. Therefore maintenance of sinus rhythm[SR] is undoubtedly hemodynamically superior to Af in the clinical course of mitral valvular disease especially in the unstable period immediately after surgery. In this article, the conversion rate and the factors influencing the conversion of Af to SR after surgery were studied. Ninety-three patients with mitral valvular replacement at Chungnam National University Hospital were analysed with electrocardiography before and after surgery during the period from June 1985 to June 1990. Eighty patients presented Af before surgery. Twenty-four[30Yo] of the patients were converted to SR[A group] and fifty six presented continuous Af after surgery[B group]. The duration of preoperative Af, preoperative left atrial dimension[LAD], preoperative functional status[NYHA classification] and cardiothoracic[CT] ratio were factors influencing the conversion of Af to SR after surgery. The mean preoperative duration of Af was 3.5$\pm$2.6yr in group A and 7.6$\pm$4.9yr in group B. The mean preoperative LAD was 53. 7$\pm$9.4mm in group A and 62.5$\pm$11.2mm in group B. Before surgery, eleven patients[46%] were belong to NYHA class I, II in group A and eight[14%] in group B. The preoperative CT ratio was 62$\pm$6% in group A and 69$\pm$8% in group B.
The eastern extension of the Cordilleran-type orogenic belt continues from southeastern China to the Chukot Peninsula through the Korean Peninsula. The Gyeongsang basin, located in the southeastern part of the Korean Peninsula and the Inner Zone of southwest Japan are characterized by extensive distribution of Cretaceous to Tertiary I-type calc-alkaline series of intrusive rocks. These intrusive rocks are possibly the result of intensive magmatism which occurred in response to the subduction of the Izanagi Plate beneath the northeastern part of the Eurasian Plate. The Jindong granitoids within the Gyeongsang basin are reported to be adakites, whose signatures are high $SiO_2,\;Al_2O_3$, Sr, Sr/Y La/Yb and, low Y and Yb contents. The major and trace element contents of the Jindong granitoids fall well within the adakitic field, whereas other Cretaceous granites in the same basin are plotted in the island arc ADR area in discrimination diagrams. Chondrite normalized REE patterns show generally enriced LREEs (La/Yb)C = 3.6-13.8) and slight negative to flat Eu anomalies. The mean Rb-Sr whole rock isotopic age of the Jindong granitoids is $114.6{\pm}9.1$ Ma with an initial Sr isotope ratio of 0.70457. These values suggest that the magma has mantle signature and intruded into the area during Early Cretaceous. The Jindong granitoids have similar paleogeographical locations, paleotectonic environments and intrusion ages to those of the Shiraishino granodiorites of Kyushu Island and the Tamba granitoids of San'yo belt located on southwestern Japanese arc.

$Pt/SrTiO_3/Pb_x(Zr_{0.52}, Ti_{0.48})O_3/SrTiO_3/Si$ structure was prepared by rf-magnetron sputtering method for use in nondestructive read out ferroelectric RAM(NDRO-FEAM). PBx(Zr_{0.52}Ti_{0.48})O_3}$(PZT) and $SrTiO_3$(STO) films were deposited respectively at the temperatures of $300^{\circ}C and 500^{\circ}C$on p-Si(100) substrate. The role of the STO film as a buffer layer between the PZT film and the Si substrate was studied using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Auger electron spectroscopy (ASE), and scanning electron microscope(SEM). Structural analysis on the interfaces was carried out using a cross sectional transmission electron microscope(TEM). For PZT/Si structure, mostly Pb deficient pyrochlore phase was formed due to the serious diffusion of Pb into the Si substrate. On the other hand, for STO/PZT/STO/Si structure, the PZT film had perovskite phase and larger grain size with a little Pb interdiffusion. the interfaces of the PZT and the STO film, of the STO film and the interface layer and $SiO_2$, and of the $SiO_2$ and the Si substate had a good flatness. Across sectional TEM image showed the existence of an amorphous layer and $SiO_2$ with 7nm thickness between the STO film and the Si substrate. The electrical properties of MIFIS structure was characterized by C-V and I-V measurements. By 1MHz C-V characteristics Pt/STO(25nm)/PZT(160nm)/STO(25nm)/Si structure, memory window was about 1.2 V for and applied voltage of 5 V. Memory window increased by increasing the applied voltage and maximum voltage of memory window was 2 V for V applied. Memory window decreased by decreasing PZT film thickness to 110nm. Typical leakage current was abour $10{-8}$ A/cm for an applied voltage of 5 V.

Two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) has been investigated at the heterointerface between two insulating dielectric perovskite oxides, $LaAlO_3$ (LAO)/$SrTiO_3$ (STO). Properties of the 2DEG have attracted an enormous interest in condensed matter physics due to multifunctional properties such as the coexistence of ferromagnetism and superconductivity, as well as the high electron mobility. Here, we have grown $Ta_2O_5$ thin films using pulsed laser deposition on $SrTiO_3$ substrate to investigate the electric properties of the $Ta_2O_5$/STO heterointerface. Our research reveal that the non-polar $Ta_2O_5$/$TiO_2$ heterointerface favors the formation of 2DEG similar to that at the LAO/STO heterointerface. The metallic behavior was found in this heterointerface with the current about $10{\sim}100{\mu}A$ at 5 V by using conventional I-V measurements, when the $Ta_20_5$ film thickness reaches over critical thickness, $d_c{\simeq}2uc$. The finding that electrons was localized at $Ta_2O_5$/STO heterointerface have attracted to be strong and new candidate for nanoscale oxide device applications.
