  • Weld quality monitoring and seam tracking along the butt-joint lengthwise to the tube axis are studied. The material of tube is 60kg/$\textrm{mm}^2$ grade steel sheet, and the longitudinal butt-joint is shaped by 2 roll bending machine. The tube with a thickness of 1.5mm, diameter of 105.4mm and length of 2000mm is successfully obtained by the $CO_2$ laser welding system equipped with a seam tracker and plasma sensor. Experimental results show that the developed welding system can be used for the precision seam tracking and the real-time monitoring of weld quality, and the laser welded tube can be used for car body md component after tubular hydroforming.

  • The Schiff base N,N'-bis(pyridin-2-ylmethylene)benzene-1,2-diamine [BPBD] has been synthesized and explored as ionophore for preparing PVC-based membrane sensors selective to the silver ($Ag^+$) ion. Potentiometric investigations indicate high affinity of this receptor for silver ion. The best performance was shown by the membrane of composition (w/w) of ionophore: 1 mg, PVC: 33 mg, o-NPOE: 66 mg and additive were added 50 mol % relative to the ionophore in 1 mL THF. The sensor works well over a wide concentration range $1{\times}10^{-3}$ to $1.0{\times}10^{-7}$ M by pH 6 at room temperature (slope 58.6 mV/dec.) with a response time of 10 seconds and showed good selectivity to silver ion over a number of cations. It could be used successfully for the determination of silver ion content in environmental and waste water samples.

  • Increasing interest in prognostics and health management has heightened the need for wireless sensor networks (WSN) with efficient power sources. Piezoelectric energy harvesters using Pb(Zr,Ti)O3 (PZT) are one of the candidate power sources for WSNs as they efficiently convert mechanical vibration energy into electrical energy. These types of devices are resonated at a specific frequency, which has a significant impact on the amount of energy harvested, by external vibration. Hence, precise prediction of mechanical deformation including modal analysis of piezoelectric devices is crucial for estimating the energy generated under specific conditions. In this study, an experimental vibrational system capable of controlling a wide range of frequencies and accelerations was designed to generate mechanical vibration for piezoelectric energy harvesters. In conjunction with MATLAB, the system automatically finds the resonance frequency of harvesters. A small accelerometer and non-contact laser displacement sensor are employed to investigate the mechanical deformation of harvesters. Mechanical deformation under various frequencies and accelerations were investigated and analyzed based on data from two types of sensors. The results verify that the proposed system can be employed to carry out vibration experiments for piezoelectric harvesters and measurement of their mechanical deformation.

  • In this study, pyramid structured black silicon process was developed in order to overcome disadvantages of using wet etching to texture the surface of single crystalline silicon and using grass/needle-like black silicon structure. In order to form the pyramidal black silicon structure on the silicon surface, the RIE system was modified to equip with metal-mesh on the top of head shower. The process conditions were : $SF_6/O_2$ gas flow 15/15 sccm, RF power of 200 W, pressure at 50 mTorr ~ 200 mTorr, and temperature at $5^{\circ}C$. The pressure did not affect the pyramid structure significantly. Increasing processing time increased the size of the pyramid, however, the size remained constant at 1 ${\mu}M$ ~ 2 ${\mu}M$ between 15 minutes ~ 20 minutes of processing. Pyramid structure of 1 ${\mu}M$ in size showed to have the lowest reflectivity of 7 % ~ 10 %. Also, the pyramid structure black silicon is more appropriate than the grass/needle-like black silicon when creating solar cells.

  • The purpose of this research is to develop Dementia-diagnosis application program through inter-working between biometric sensors and smart phone with diagnostic programs. Receiving data from 2 biometric sensors, SpO2 and HRV(heart rate variability) with Bluetooth and adding scores from questionnaires and memory test game, smart phone can draw a final Dementia Index(DI). Simple clinical tests provided threshold for Dementia, and diagnosis was made by comparing the DI with the threshold. We performed testing on persons aged over 60 and found out the proposed application can be used to diagnose Dementia easily and quickly. Additionally, we have shown the potential of oxygen chamber combined with Dementia-diagnosis application as a medical equipment to ease or cure Dementia in its early stages.

  • 1.5 V and 3.0 V-class film-type primary batteries were designed for radio frequency identification (RFID) tag. Efficient fabrication processes such as screen-printings of conducting layer ($25{\mu}m$), active material layer ($40{\mu}m$ for anode and $80{\mu}m$ for cathode), and electrolyte/separator/electrolyte layer ($100{\mu}m$), were adopted to give better performances of the 1.5 V-class film-type Leclanch$\acute{e}$ primary battery for battery-assisted passive (BAP) RFID tag. Lithium (Li) metal is used as an anode material in a 3.0 V-class film-type $MnO_2||$Li primary battery to increase the operating voltage and discharge capacity for application to active sensor tags of a radio frequency identification system. The fabricated 3.0 V-class film-type Li primary battery passes several safety tests and achieves a discharge capacity of more than 9 mAh $cm^{-2}$.

  • The Ministry of National Defense decided to build a realistic combat simulation training system based on virtual reality and augmented reality in accordance with the expansion of the scientific training system of "Defense Reform 2.0". The realistic combat simulation training system should be able to maximize the tension and training effect as in actual combat through engagement between trainers. In addition, it should be possible to increase the effectiveness of survival training at the same time as shooting training similar to actual combat through cover training. Previous studies are suitable techniques to improve the shooting precision of the trainee, but it is difficult to practice bilateral engagement like in actual combat, and it is particularly insufficient for combat shooting training using cover. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a S/W algorithm for generating a virtual avatar by recognizing the shooting posture of the opponent on the screen of the virtual shooting trainer. This S/W algorithm can recognize the trainer and the cover based on the depth information acquired through the depth sensor and estimate the trainer's posture.

  • Silicone rubber-matrix membranes doped with tetradecyltrimethylammonium chloride (TDTMACl) are used to enhance electrode performance for chloride measurements in physiological samples. The optimized membrane formulation incorporates 95.4 wt% silicone rubber and 4.6 wt% TDTMACl, and its pH response is negligible in the range of pH 6-10. The TDTMACl-doped silicone rubber membrane exhibits sub-Nernstian response to chloride from 10 to 300 mM (-37.5 mV/decade), but its selectivities for chloride over other anions are remarkably enhanced: KpotCl,NO3=1.3, KpotCl,I=2.0, KpotCl,Sal=0.8, KpotCl,SCN=2.0 and KpotCl,ClO4=0.8. Furthermore, since the silicone rubber-matrix membrane exhibits better adhesion to the solid surface than do PVC membranes, the lifetime of the coated-wire type membrane electrode is greatly improved. The response properties toward chloride and salicylate for solid-state sensor are not significantly changed after at least 35 days of use.

  • An electrochemical oxygen permeating membrane (OPM) is fabricated using Zr0.895Sc0.095Ce0.005Gd0.005O2-δ (ScCeGdZ) as the solid electrolyte and aLa0.7Sr0.3MnO3-bScCeGdZ composite (LZab, electrode) as the electrode. The crystal phase of the electrode and the microstructure of the membrane is investigated with X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The electrochemical resistance of the membrane is examined using 2-p ac impedance spectroscopy, and LZ55 shows the lowest electrode resistance among LZ82, LZ55 and LZ37. The oxygen permeation is studied with an oxygen permeation cell with a zirconia oxygen sensor. The oxygen flux of the OPM with LZ55 is nearly consistent with the theoretical value calculated from Faraday's Law below a critical current. However, it becomes saturated above the critical current due to the limit of the oxygen ionic conduction of the OPM. The OPM with LZ55 has a very high oxygen permeation flux of ~ 3.5 × 10-6 mol/㎠s in I = 1.4 A/㎠.

  • Dielectric capacitors are integral components in electronic devices that protect the electric circuit by providing modulated steady voltage. Explosive growth of the electric automobile market has resulted in an increasing demand for dielectric capacitors that can operate at temperatures as high as 400 ℃. To surpass the operation temperature limit of currently available commercial capacitors that operate in temperatures up to 125 ℃, Bi1/2Na1/2TiO3 (BNT), which has a large temperature-insensitive dielectric response with a maximum dielectric permittivity temperature of 300 ℃, was selected. By introducing an intentional A-site cation deficiency and post-heat treatment, we successfully manage to control the dielectric properties of BNT to use it for high-temperature applications. The key feature of this new BNT is remarkable reduction in dielectric loss (0.36 to 0.018) at high temperature (300 ℃). Structural, dielectric, and electrical properties of this newly developed BNT were systematically investigated to understand the underlying mechanism.
