  • In this paper, we consider a preconditioned accelerated overrelaxation (PAOR) method to solve systems of linear equations. We show the convergence of the PAOR method. We also give com-parison results when the coefficient matrix is an L- or H-matrix. Finally, we provide some numerical experiments to show efficiency of PAOR method.

  • This paper presents an adaptive quantization matrix selection scheme for H.264 video encoding. Conventional H.264 coding standard applies the same quantization matrix to the entire video sequence without considering local characteristics in each frame. In this paper, we propose block adaptive selection of quantization matrix according to edge directivity of each block. Firstly, edge directivity of each block is determined using intra prediction modes of its spatially adjacent blocks. If the block is decided as a directional block, new weighted quantization matrix is applied to the block. Otherwise, conventional quantization matrix is used for quantization of the non-directional block. Since the proposed weighted quantization is designed based on statistical distribution of transform coefficients in accordance with intra prediction modes, we can achieve high coding efficiency. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme can improve coding efficiency by about 2% in terms of BD bit-rate.

  • We present a robust and reliable H$\infty$ state-feedback controller design for linear uncertain systems, which have norm-bounded time-varying uncertainty in the state matrix, and their prespecified sets of actuators are susceptible to failure. These controllers should guarantee robust stability of the systems and H$\infty$ norm bound against parameter uncertainty and/or actuator failures. Based on the linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach, two state-feedback controller design methods are constructed by formulating to a set of LMIs corresponding to all failure cases or a single LMI that covers all failure cases, with an additional costraint. Effectiveness and geometrical property of these controllers are validated via several numerical examples. Furthermore, the proposed LMI frameworks can be applied to multiobjective problems with additional constraints.

  • The objective of this study was to develop a pH dependent oral matrix tablet containing probiotics. In this study, hydroxyl-propyl-methyl-cellulose (HPMC) and polyvinyl pyrrolidone K30 (PVP K-30) was utilized as a binder, sodium starch glycolate (SSG) was used as a disintegrant material for the tablet formulation. The disintegration test, hardness test, angle of response were performed to examine the characteristics of prepared tablet. Lactobacillus vitality test was applied to analyze the total Lactobacillus viable count. The results demonstrated that the pH dependent matrix tablet was prepared successfully and can thus be industrialized instead of the current methodologies used for preparation of conventional probiotics.

  • The notion of slant H-Toeplitz operator $V_{\phi}$ on the Hardy space $H^2$ is introduced and its characterizations are obtained. It has been shown that an operator on the space $H^2$ is a slant H-Toeplitz if and only if its matrix is a slant H-Toeplitz matrix. In addition, the conditions under which slant Toeplitz and slant Hankel operators become slant H-Toeplitz operators are also obtained.

  • Over an additive abelian group G of order g and for a given positive integer $\lambda$, a generalized Hadamard matrix GH(g, $\lambda$) is defined as a gλ$\times$gλ matrix[h(i, j)], where 1 $\leq i \leqg\lambda and 1 \leqj \leqg\lambda$, such that every element of G appears exactly $\lambd$atimes in the list h($i_1, 1) -h(i_2, 1), h(i_1, 2)-h(i_2, 2), …, h(i_1, g\lambda) -h(i_2, g\lambda), for any i_1\neqi_2$. In this paper, we propose a new method of expanding a GH(g^m, \lambda_1) = B = [B_{ij}] over G^m$ by replacing each of its m-tuple B_{ij} with B_{ij} + GH(g, $\lambda_2) where m = g\lambda_2. We may use g^m/\lambda_1 (not necessarily all distinct) GH(g, \lambda_2$)s for the substitution and the resulting matrix is defined over the group of order g.

We may use \ulcornerλ$_1$(not necessarily all distinct) GH(g,λ$_2$)'s for the substitution and the resulting matrix is defined over the group of order g.

  • Low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes are recently emerged due to its excellent performance. However, the parity check (H) matrices of the previous works are not adequate for hardware implementation of encoders or decoders. This paper proposes a hybrid parity check matrix which is efficient in hardware implementation of both decoders and encoders. The hybrid H-matrices are constructed so that both the semi-random technique and the partly parallel structure can be applied to design encoders and decoders. Using the proposed methods, the implementation of encoders can become practical while keeping the hardware complexity of the partly parallel decoder structures. An encoder and a decoder are designed using Verilog-HDL and compared with the previous results.

  • Drug release experiments were performed based on pH-sensitive swelling behaviors of polymethacrylic acid. 5-Fluorouracil as a nonionic model drug revealed release patterns depending solely on pH-dependent swelling kinetics of polymethacrylic acid. In contrast, release of propranolol hydrochloride as a cationic model drug was significantly affected by ionic drug-polymer interaction as well as the swelling kinetics. Accordingly, a zero-order release pattern was obtained at pH 7, which was distinguished from the general matrix type drug release pattern.

  • This paper proposes the receding horizon $H_{\infty}$ predictive control (RHHPC) for systems with a state-delay. We first proposes a new cost function for a finite horizon dynamic game problem. The proposed cost function includes two terminal weighting terns, each of which is parameterized by a positive definite matrix, called a terminal weighting matrix. Secondly, we derive the RHHPC from the solution to the finite dynamic game problem. Thirdly, we propose an LMI condition under which the saddle point value satisfies the well-known nonincreasing monotonicity. Finally, we shows the asymptotic stability and $H_{\infty}$-norm boundedness of the closed-loop system controlled by the proposed RHHPC. Through a numerical example, we show that the proposed RHHC is stabilizing and satisfies the infinite horizon $H_{\infty}$-norm bound.
