  • $D^*$ criterion is defined as a reference of the handling quality and ride comfortableness for lateral-directional automobile motion. However it is generally difficult to obtain the satisfied handling quality and ride comfortableness based on $D^*$ criterion by conventional two wheel steering system. In this study, a design method of model matching control system is proposed to obtain the satisfied $D^*$ response of 4 Wheel Steering.

  • With using artificial neural networks (ANNs), an analytical study related to the heated length effect on critical heat flux(CHF) has been carried out to make an improvement of the CHF prediction accuracy based on local condition correlations or table. It has been carried out to suggest a feasible criterion of the threshold length-to-diameter (L/D) value in which heated length could affect CHF. And within the criterion, a L/D correction factor has been developed through conventional regression. In order to validate the developed L/D correction factor, CHF experiment for various heated lengths have been carried out under low and intermediate pressure conditions. The developed threshold L/D correlation provides a new feasible criterion of L/D threshold value. The developed correction factor gives a reasonable accuracy fur the original database, showing the error of -2.18% for average and 27.75% for RMS, and promising results for new experimental data.

  • In discrete element modeling, 2D software has been widely used in order to gain further insights into the fundamental mechanisms with less computational time. The porosities used in 2D DEM studies should be determined with appropriate approaches based on 3D laboratory porosities. This paper summarizes the main approaches for converting porosities from 3D to 2D for DEM studies and theoretical evaluations show that none of the current approaches can be widely used in dealing with soil mechanical problems. Therefore, a parabolic equation and a criterion have been suggested for the determination of 2D porosities in this paper. Moreover, a case study has been used to validate that the 2D porosity obtained from the above suggestion to be rational with both the realistic contact force distribution in the specimen and the good agreement of the DEM simulation results of direct shear tests with the corresponding experimental data. Therefore, the parabolic equation and the criterion are suggested for the determination of 2D porosities in a wide range of polydisperse particle systems, especially in dealing with soil mechanical problems.

  • Although the Mohr-Coulomb and Hoek-Brown failure criteria have been adopted widely in rock mechanics, they neglect the ${\sigma}_2$ effect. The result of true triaxial tests on rock samples, however, reveals that the ${\sigma}_2$ effect on strength of rocks is considerable, so that rock failure criteria taking into account the influence of ${\sigma}_2$ are necessary for the precise stability evaluation of rock structures. In this study, a new nonlinear 3-D failure criterion has been suggested by combining the Hoek-Brown criterion with the smooth octahedral shape function taken from Jiang & Pietruszczak (1988). The performance of the new criterion was assessed by comparing the strength predictions from both the suggested criterion and the corresponding linear 3-D criterion. The resulting fit of the new criterion to the true triaxial test data for six rock types taken from the literature shows that the criterion fits the experimental data very well. Furthermore, for the data sets having data taken in the low ${\sigma}_3$ range, the nonlinear failure criterion works better than the linear criterion.

  • Two-dimensional (2-D) digital filters are widely useful inn image processing and other 2-D digital signal processing fields, but designing 2-D filters is much more difficult than designing one-dimensional (1-D) ones. This paper provides a new insight into the existing singular value decomposition (SVD)-based design approach in the sense that the SVD-based design can be performed more efficiently by exploiting the symmetries of the given 2-D magnitude specifications. By using the specification symmetries. only half of the 1-D filters (sub-filters) need to be designed. which significantly simplifies the design process and reduces the computer storage required for 1-D sub-filter coefficients. Another novel point of this paper si that an objective criterion is proposed for selecting appropriate sub-filter orders in order to reduce the hardware implementation cost. A design example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the SVD-based design approach by exploiting specification symmetry and new order-selecting criterion.

  • 3-D data modeling of a volumetric scattered data is highly demanded for geological structure inspection, environment visualization and supersonic testing. The data used in these area are generally irregularly scattered in a volume data space, which are much different from the structured points data (cuberille data) used in Marching cube algorithm. In this paper, first we explore a volume modeling method for the scattered data based on tetrahedral domain. Next we propose a method for solving the ambiguity of tetrahedral domain decision using asymptotic decider criterion. Last we implement a simple visualization system based on the proposed asymptotic decider criterion and compare it with a system based on sphere criterion. In deciding tetrahedral domain, sphere criterion considers only positional values but asymptotic decider criterion considers not only positional values but also functional values, so asymptotic decider criterion is more accurate on deciding tetrahedral domain than sphere criterion.

  • In this article, we prove that diskcyclic C0-semigroups exist on any infinite-dimensional Banach space. We show that a C0-semigroup (Tt)t≥0 satisfies the diskcyclicity criterion if and only if any of Tt's satisfies the diskcyclicity criterion for operators. Moreover, we show that there are diskcyclic C0-semigroups that do not satisfy the diskcyclicity criterion. Also, we state various criteria for diskcyclicity of C0-semigroups based on dense sets and d-dense orbits.

  • In this paper, we propose an growing and pruning algorithm to design the adaptive structure of modular wavelet neural network(MWNN) with F-projection and geometric growing criterion. Geometric growing criterion consists of estimated error criterion considering local error and angle criterion which attempts to assign wavelet function that is nearly orthogonal to all other existing wavelet functions. These criteria provide a methodology that a network designer can constructs wavelet neural network according to one's intention. The proposed growing algorithm grows the module and the size of modules. Also, the pruning algorithm eliminates unnecessary node of module or module from constructed MWNN to overcome the problem due to localized characteristic of wavelet neural network which is used to modules of MWNN. We apply the proposed constructing algorithm of the adaptive structure of MWNN to approximation problems of 1-D function and 2-D function, and evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
