An organometallic complex. $Me_2Pt(PPh_2CH_2C(t-Bu)=N-N=CMe(2-py)-\kappa^2N,P)$ was synthesized from phosphinohydrazone $Ph_2PCH_2C(t-Bu)=NNH_2$, 2-acetylpyridine, and $[PtMe2({\mu}-SMe_2)]_2$. The molecular structure of this complex has been determined by X-ray diffraction. Crystallographic data: monoclinic, space group $P2_1/n,\;a=11.6926(7)\;{\AA},\;b=15.6607(19)\;{\AA},\; c=14.6125(6)\;{\AA},\;\beta=93.018(4)^{\circ},\;Z=4,\;V=2672.0(4)\;{\AA}^3$. The structure was solved by direct methods and refined by full-matrix least-squares methods to give a model with a reliability factor R = 0.0363 for 5238 reflections.
Six-coordinate molybdenum(Ⅴ)-oxo complexes (PyH)[MoOCl2L] and (R4N)-[MoOCl2L] (R=CH3 and C2H5) with N-salicylidene-2-aminophenol(L1) and its derivatives(L2=5-CH3, L3=3-CH3O, L4=5,6-C4H4 and L5=5-NO2) as ONO-donor ligands have been synthesized and the spectral and electrochemical properties of the complexes by elemental analysis, molar conductivity, UV-vis, IR, 1H NMR and CV have been studied.
Chitinase producing bacteria, Arthrobacter nicotianae CH4 and A. nicotianae CH13, were isolated from small crabs by an enrichment culture using chitin as the sole carbon source. Crude chitinases from the two isolated strains, A. nicotianae CH4 and A. nicotianae CH13, were stable in the pH range of $3.0{\sim}9.0$ and in the temperature range of $20{\sim}60^{\circ}C$. The reducing sugar $(GlcNAc)_1$, or $(GlcNAc)_4$, corresponding to over 98% of the enzyme reaction products, was obtained. The production of functional $(GlcNAc)_1$ and $(GlcNAc)_4$ from A. nicotianae CH13 and A. nicotianae CH4, respectively, from the chitinases was useful. The chitinase system of A. nicotianae CH13 was supposed to be endo- and exo-chitinase, and N-acetylglucosaminidase.

Condensation of salicylaldehyde $(2-HOC_6H_4C(O)H)$ with allylamine afforded the unsaturated salicylaldimine, $2-HOC_6H_4C(H)=NCH_2CH=CH_2$. Similar reactivity was observed with substituted salicylaldehydes. Further reaction of these Schiff bases with palladium acetate or $Na_2PdCl_4$ afforded complexes of the type $PdL_2$, where L = deprotonated Schiff base. The molecular structure of the parent salicylaldimine palladium complex $[trans-(2-OC_6H_4C(H)=NCH_2CH=CH_2)_2Pd]$ (1) was characterized by an X-ray diffraction study. Crystals of 1 were monoclinic, space group $P2_1/n,\;a\;=\;14.0005(9)\;{\AA},\;b\;=7.2964(5)\;{\AA},\;c\;=\;17.5103(12)\;{\AA},\;{\beta}\;=\;100.189(1)^{\circ}$, Z = 4. Analogous chemistry with 4-vinylaniline also gave novel palladium complexes containing a pendant styryl group. Crystals of $[trans-(2-HOC_6H_4C(H)=N-4-C_6H_4CH=CH_2)_2Pd]$ (4) were monoclinic, space group $P2_1/c$, a = 13.7710(14) ${\AA}$, b = 11.0348(11) ${\AA}$, c = 7.8192(8) ${\AA}$, ${\beta}\;=\;98.817(2)^{\circ}$, Z = 2.
The linear combination of bond orbitals method is used to investigate the reactivity of halomethanes in abstraction reactions by atoms. The activation energy is evaluated on the assumption that, in an activated complex, two electrons in a bond to be broken become completely isolated from the rest of the ${\sigma}$-electron systems. Such a model leads to an intuitively attractive concept that the interactions between the reactive bond and the neighboring bonds govern the reactivity of ${\sigma}$-electron systems. The resulting equation for the activation energy, ${\varepsilon},\;is:\;{\narepsilon}= ${\varepsilon}={\zeta}+$$${\sum}_{i=1}^3$${\eta}c-I,$ c-4 Here, subscript C-4 indicates the bond to be broken, while C-i represents the other three bonds surrounding the reactive bond; ξ is the activation energy of a hypothetical reaction of an isolated C-4 bond and an attacking atom; and ${\eta}$C-i,C-4 stems from the stabilizing interacting of C-4 bond with neighboring C-i bonds. A choie of η′s consistent with bond strength data simplifies the above equation to a form ${\varepsilon}={\zeta}\;+\;N{\eta}c$-H, C-4 where N denotes the number of C-H plus C-F bond in halomethanes. In agreement with this equation, experimental -values increase linearly with increasing N.
BACKGROUND: Agricultural inputs (fertilizer and organic inputs) and water conditions can influence $CH_4$ and $CO_2$ emission from agricultural soils. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of agricultural inputs (fertilizer and organic inputs) under changing water regime on $CH_4$ and $CO_2$ emission from a soil in a laboratory incubation experiment. METHODS AND RESULTS: Four treatments were laid out: control without input and three type of agricultural inputs ($(NH_4)_2SO_4$, AS; pig manure compost, PMC; hairy vetch, HV). Fertilizer and organic inputs were mixed with 25 g of soil at 2.75 mg N/25 g soil (equivalent to 110 kg N/ha) in a bottle with septum, and incubated for 60 days. During the first 30-days incubation, the soil was waterlogged (1 cm of water depth) by adding distilled water weekly, and on 30 days of incubation, excess water was discarded then incubated up to 60 days without addition of water. Based on the redox potential, water regime could be classified into wetting (1 to 30 days), transition (31 to 40 days), and drying periods (41 to 60 days). Across the entire period, $CH_4$ and $CO_2$ flux ranged from 0 to 13.8 mg $CH_4$/m/day and from 0.4~1.9 g $CO_2$/m/day, and both were relatively higher in the early wetting period and the boundary between transition and drying periods. During the entire period, % loss of C relative to the initial was highest in HV (16.4%) followed by AS (8.1%), PMC (7.5%), and control (5.4%), indicating readily decomposability of HV. Accordingly, both $CH_4$ and $CO_2$ fluxes were greatest in HV treatment. Meanwhile, the lower $CH_4$ flux in AS and PMC treatments than the control was ascribed to reduction in $CH_4$ generation due to the presence of oxidized compounds such as ${SO_4}^{2-}$, $Fe^{3+}$, $Mn^{4+}$, and ${NO_3}^-$ that compete with precursors of $CH_4$ for electrons. CONCLUSION: Green manure such as HV can replace synthetic fertilizer in terms of N input, however, it may increase $CH_4$ emission from soils. Therefore, co-application of green manure and livestock manure compost needs to be considered in order to achieve satisfactory N supply and to mitigate $CH_4$ and $CO_2$ emission.
2,3,5,6-Tetramethyl-1,4-phenylenediamine (TMPD) based polyimide (PI) were crosslinked with 1,2-Diaminoethane (DAE) and 1,6-Diaminohexane (DAH) to enhance gas transport properties. Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) studies show that imide groups were converted into amide groups during crosslinking process. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) results indicate that the degradation temperature of crosslinked PI membranes decreased after crosslinking. This is due to degradation of alkyl group in crosslinking agent. The d-space of crosslinked PI membranes decreased with increasing crosslinking time. The ideal permeability for $CH_4$, $N_2$, $O_2$, and $CO_2$ decreased after crosslinking and the ideal permeability of crosslinked PI membranes induced by DAH is larger than that by DAE. In contrast, the permselectivity of $CO_2/CH_4$, $CO_2/N_2$ and $O_2/N_2$ increased during crosslinking. For the gas pair of $CO_2/CH_4$, the maximum increment is about 39.5% after 6 minutes of DAE crosslinking. Also, that of $O_2/N_2$ gas pair is about 20.5% after 6 minutes of DAE crosslinking. According to these result, DAE is more suitable for enhanced permselectivity than DAH. On the contrary, DAE is not useful for $CO_2/N_2$ separation due to reduction in $CO_2/N_2$ permselectivity after 3 minutes DAE crosslinking.

To know the emission amount of greenhouse gases from bedding materials of cowshed floor, the emission rates of methane ($CH_4$) and nitrous oxide ($N_2O$) gases from a simulated cowshed floor (SCF) with sawdust that manure loading rate into the bedding material could be accurately controlled were assessed in this study. The manure loading rates of Korean beef and Holstein dairy cattle into the SCF of $0.258m^2$ surface area with 10 to 15 cm height sawdust were $1.586kg/m^2/d$ and $3.588kg/m^2/d$, respectively, and those were calculated on the basis of "Standard model for sustainable livestock" and "Data for excretion amount of manure from livestock". All experiments were done in triplicates in three different seasons (May to July, Sep. to Nov., and Feb. to Apr.) using 12 SCFs. The effects of bedding material thickness on $CH_4$ and $N_2O$ emission from SCFs for both Korean beef cattle and Holstein dairy cattle were not statistically significant (p<0.05). Emission amount of $CH_4$ and $N_2O$ per square meter of SCF for Holstein dairy cattle was 7.5 and 1.2 times higher than that of Korean beef cattle, respectively. The yearly $CH_4$ amount per head was 17.7 times higher in Holstein dairy cattle, obtaining 130.4 g/head/year from SCF for Holstein dairy cattle and 7.4 g/head/year from SCF for Korean beef cattle, and $N_2O$ was also 3.8 times higher in Holstein dairy cattle (3,267 g/head/year in Korean beef cattle and 14,719 g/head/year in Holstein dairy cattle). However, the $N_2O$-N per loaded nitrogen into SCF was higher in Korean beef cattle, having 0.2148 and 0.1632 kg $N_2O$-N/kg N in Korean beef cattle and Holstein dairy cattle, respectively, and those values were 3.07 and 2.33 times higher than that of Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) 2006 guideline (GL) (0.07 kg $N_2O$-N/kg N).
The structural geometry of $[N(CH_3)_4]_2CdCl_4$ in a hexagonal phase is studied by $^1H$ MAS NMR, $^{13}C$ CP/MAS NMR, and $^{14}N$ NMR. The changes in the chemical shifts for $^{13}C$ and $^{14}N$ in the hexagonal phase are explained by the structural geometry. In addition, the temperature dependencies of the spin-lattice relaxation time in the rotating frame $T_{1{\rho}}$ for $^1H$ MAS NMR and $^{13}C$ CP/MAS NMR are measured.
