  • The pyridine and 3,5-lutidine complexes of quinquevalent molybdenum have been prepared. The infrared, electronic and reflectance spectra and magnetic susceptibility data of the complexes are reported. It is found that the binuclear complexes contain the di-${\mu}$-oxo-dimolybdenum(V) group, $MoO_2Mo$, and the possible structures are proposed on the basis of elemental analysis and physical measurements.

  • CNTs have been synthesized by catalytic $C_2H_2$ decomposition through $Pd/Al_2O_3$ at low temperature. The CNTs were grown to a length of about 10 ${\mu}$m and diameter 150-200 nm with multiwalled structure. Pd catalysts have two major roles; one is the active catalyst for $C_2H_2$ decomposition, the other is a nucleation site of CNT's growth.

  • A series of new diarylureas possessing aminoisoquinoline scaffold was synthesized, and their in vitro antiproliferative activity against A375P human melanoma cell line was tested. Compounds 1d, 1l, 1n, 1p, 1q, and 1t showed superior potency against A375P to Sorafenib. The highest potency was shown by compound 1p possessing 3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenyl terminal ring with $IC_{50}$ value of $0.41{\mu}M$.

  • Al2O3/SiC composite-material was synthesized by the birth-spread mechanism through the carbothermal reduction reaction of SiO2 in Ha-Dong Kaolin with carbon powder under H2 gas atmosphere at 1300~140$0^{\circ}C$. Average diameter of synthesized SiC whiskers were 1${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and aspect ratio (c/a) was 10~100. Al2O3 particles and SiC whiskers were mixed homogeneously in the reacted pellet.

  • ZrN powder was prepared from the powder mixture of ZrCl4 and Al by the halogenide process in nitrogen gas flow (100-150ml/min) at the temperatures from 200$^{\circ}$to 1050$^{\circ}C$. ZrN powder was formed about 600$^{\circ}C$ and in the slow nitriding reaction, however, an intermediate product of Al3Zr was formed. The fine powder (0.1-10$\mu\textrm{m}$) of single phase ZrN was obtained at 1050$^{\circ}C$ after 1 hour. The lattice parameter and crystallite size of ZrN were 4.5787A and 360A, respectively. According to SEM observation, the particles were apt to agglomerates. The apparent activation energy for the formation of ZrN was approximately 13.2kcal/mole(750$^{\circ}$-1000$^{\circ}C$).

  • Synthetic diamond films have been deposited on the silicon(100) surface and molybdenum substrates using an microwave plasma enhanced vapor deposition (MWPECVD) method. The effect of deposition time, surface morphology, X-ray diffraction pattrm, infrared transmittance and Raman Scattering have been studied, The diamond film deposited on Mo substrate for (100) hours at 40 torr H$_2$-CH$_4$O$_2$ gas system have been shown 1${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$/h of growth rate and good crystallization

  • Diamond thin films were deposited on Si substrate using $CH_4 and H_2$mixed gas by RF plasma CVD. Prior to deposition, the substrate surface was mechanically scratched with the diamond paste of $3{\mu}m$ to improve the density of nucleation sites. The microstructure of diamond films deposited with methane(0.5%~2%) at the reaction pressure ranging from 20 torr to 50torrr were studied by a scanning electron microscope. It was observed in the deposited diamond films that the nucleation density decreased and crystallinity increased with decreasing the methane concentration. However, the nucleation density and crystallinity were decreased with decreasing the process pressure.

  • Many researches on synthesis process for BSCCO precursor powders have been developed for high J$_{c}$ BSCCO-2223/Ag tape. Spray pyrolysis method for fabrication of precursor powder has many advantages, such as high purity, fine particle size of BSCCO precursor powder. Fine, spherical powders were prepared by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis from the aqueous solution of metal nitrates. BSCCO precursor powders were synthesized with 0.1 M concentration and heat treatment conditions. Average particle size for spray pyrolysis powders was 1.5 ~ 3 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. BSCCO -2223/Ag tape was prepared by PIT method and followed by various sintering conditions. The critical current density of BSCCO-2223/Ag tape sintered in low oxygen partial pressure was ~ 23 kAcm$^{-2}$.

  • An efficient synthetic route for carbocyclic versions of stavudine analogues and their evaluation on antiviral activity are described. The construction of an ethynylated quaternary carbon at the 4'-position of carbocyclic nucleosides was accomplished using Claisen rearrangement of 11 and ring-closing metathesis (RCM) of dienyne 14 as key transformations. An antiviral evaluation of the synthesized compounds, 20, 21, 22, and 25 against HIV-1, HSV-1, HSV-2, and HCMV showed that only the guanine analogue 25 is moderately active against HIV-1 in the MT-4 cell line ($EC_{50}$ = 11.91 $\mu$mol).

  • Clematis mandshurica (Ranunculaceae) has traditionally been used as a remedy for antidiuretic, antifungal, rheumatic conditions and alleviate pain. We carried out to evaluate the anti-oxidative effect, anti-inflammatory effect and anti-melanogenic effect of ethanol extract and solvent fractions of Clematis mandshurica. The ethanol extract and the dichloromethane fraction of Clematis mandshurica showed an anti-oxidative effect in DPPH assay, the inhibitory activity of nitric oxide (NO) production in lipopolysaccharide (LPS) activated RAW 264.7 cell, and melanin synthesis and tyrosinase activity of B16F10 melanoma cells. They reduced NO production and melanin content in a dose-dependent manner at concentrations of $2.5{\sim}10{\mu}g/ml$. They also suppressed iNOS and tyrosinase protein and m-RNA expressions dose dependently, assayed by western blot analysis and RT-PCR experiment.
