Consuming regular meals has been studied in relation to better health, while higher regularity of eating-out has been linked to obesity. This study examined whether acculturation was associated with regularity of meals, eating-out, and overweight in Korean Americans. Pre-tested questionnaires were mailed to a U.S. national sample with Korean American surnames, and 55% of the deliverable sample responded, producing 356 usable questionnaires. Acculturation was measured using a two-culture matrix model and Gordon's theoretical work, and showed there were three distinct groups (acculturated, bicultural, and traditional). Only 36% reported that they regularly ate three meals a day. Breakfast was the least frequent meal of the day with 43% reporting eating breakfast everyday. More than half (58%) reported that they usually eat out or get take-out food at least once a week. After controlling for age, sex, income, education, and working status, higher acculturation was related to greater regularity of eating-out, but not meal regularity. A total of 28% of men and 6% of women were overweight (BMI>25), and there were significant and positive relationships between body weight status and acculturation in men but not women. However, no significant relationships between frequency of meals and eating-out and overweight status were present. This study did not find significant relationships of meal regularity and eating-out with body weight, however, given the positive relationship between acculturation and eating-out among the subjects and the well-established relationship between eating-out and obesity, nutrition education about skipping meals and eating-for Korean Americans may be useful to prevent such relationships from developing.
This study examined the subjective health recognition, motivation, selection property, consumption realties, and generalities of elderly people eating out. The ratio of women eating out in those over 60 years of ages was high and people in that age group ate out most actively. The score of convenience-oriented, gourmet-oriented, and dignity-oriented of the selection property for eating out increased with increasing frequency and expenditure for eating out. With increasing age, a negative (-) relationship with a decrease in the safety-oriented score of the selection property for eating out was predicted. As the number of days eating out increased, a positive (+) relationship with an increase in the safety-oriented score of the selection property for eating out was observed. As the scores of physical and social health perception increased, a positive (+) relationship with an increase in the gourmet oriented score was observed. Based on the results, various research on the relationship between the health recognition and eating out behavior of those over 60 years of age are required.
The purpose of this study was to confirm the effects of flush-out on the reduction of Volatile Organic Compounds(VOCs) concentration in newly built residential buildings. The field measurements were conducted in two complexes of multi-residential buildings which are located suburban areas of Seoul. About three samples of residential buildings were selected in the field measurements. Two samples, B and C, had been flush-out with outdoor air more than seven days. The sample A was maintained at same condition during the flush-out because of the comparison. The indoor concentrations of VOCs in the three samples were measured at three times, before, during, and after flush-out. From the field measurements, it was confirmed that two samples' indoor VOCs' concentrations were considerably decreased after the flush-out comapred with those of the sample A in which the flush-out was not conducted. The decreases of indoor VOCs concentrations were corresponding to about 50% ~ 92% of the concentrations of before. Through the reviews for the previous studies, it was also found that the reduction effects of the flush-out is similar with the those of the bake-out which were reported in the previous studies.
Johne's disease is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease of cattle, sheep, goats and other ruminants. Mycobacterium paratuberculosis is the etiologic agent of this disease. Many studies have been carried out on paratuberculosis from Korean native cattle and dairy cattle in multiple areas around nation, but there is no report in Busan area. The purpose of this study is to investigate the seroprevalence of bovine paratuberculosis in Busan area from March in 2011 to October in 2012. A total of 863 Korean native cattle of 213 farms were tested by ELISA method. The 287 (33.3%) Korean native cattle of 119 (55.9%) farms were positive in ELISA. In regional analysis, 234 (33.6%) out of 696 cows in Kijang-gun, 35 (39.3%) out of 89 cows in Gangseo-gu and 15 (20.8%) out of 72 cows in Geumjeong-gu were positive. In sexual analysis, 277 (33.6%) out of 824 cows in Female and 10 (25.6%) out of 39 cows in Male were positive. In aga-related analysis, 13 (22.4%) out of 58 cows in 1 year, 33 (32.0%) out of 103 cows in 2 years, 87 (34.1%) out of 255 cows in 3 years, 118 (36.6%) out of 322 cows in 4 years, 21 (36.8%) out of 57 cows in 5 years, 8 (29.6%) out of 27 cows in 6 years, 6 (31.6%) out of 19 cows in 7 years and 1 (4.5%) out of 22 cows in 8-11 years were positive.
This study was carried out to investigate the relationship between demographic characteristics and conscious behavior of 287 workers. The results of the study are as follows: The participants of the study were composed of 139 males $(48.4\%)$ and 148 females $(51.6\%)$. 75 workers are 25 years old or younger $(26.1\%)$. Regarding the frequency of eating out, 211 workers $(73.6\%)$ answered that they had eating out ever once a week. Males ate out more frequently than females (p<0.001). The motives for eating out was mostly for meals. This response was more frequent for female than male. To the contrary, more males answered that they ate out for the purpose of social intercourse. As the level of average monthly income increases, the purpose of eating out changed from the purpose of meals to the purpose of social intercourse (p<0.001). For cost of eating out, the older workers and those who had higher monthly income spent significantly more expenditure. However gender difference didn't make any significant difference in the eating out expenses per person. The average monthly eating out expenses were significantly higher for female than male, for the order workers than the younger, for the married than the single, and for those who have higher monthly income than lower. However, the expenses were not significantly different in occupation. Regarding the types of restaurants that the workers preferred for eating out, the most workers preferred Korean restaurant. The types of restaurants that workers preferred significantly related to all the demographic characteristics (p<0.01). In general, participants had eating out with their family. However, younger, single, and low income workers seemed to more eat out with their friends. The most preferred menu was pork dishes. Male rather than female, the married rather than the single, and those who have a professional occupation appeared to like it more. It is necessary to research the major customers' demographic characteristics and their preferences, and then to develop new goods which fit to the customers before entering the restaurant business. It may be concluded that it should be important to develop nutritious, safe, and delicious foods.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of socioeconomic status on the eating-out satisfaction, eating-out expenditure, meal balance and dietary attitude of 251 married females in Youngnam Area. The monthly frequency of eating out with family was 2.5 visits with an expenditure of 116,000 won in this study. Korean food was the most frequently selected type of board for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The respondents satisfied with the taste of the food the most, whereas least satisfied with the sanitation. The average expenditure for eating-out was 62,000 won per visit with the average of 39,000 won in the lowest income group and 78,000 won in the highest one. Regarding the meal balance score, the overall score was 3.48 with the lowest score(2.98) being recorded for the dairy products and the highest score(3.95) for vegetables. As for the dietary attitude score, breakfast scored the highest(3.79) and consideration of balanced workload, exercise, rest and dining activities received the lowest score(2.57). Meal balance and attitude scores were not significantly different among the eating-out expenditure levels. The eating-out expenditure demonstrated a positive correlation with total food expenditures, household income, educational attainment and others. The low income group who had low meal balance scores and dietary attitude scores tended to spend proportionally more on eating-out. In conclusion, the studies revealed that the respondents favored the Korean food and did not satisfied with the sanitation most when eating-out. In terms of eating-out expenses, the group with the highest income and educational attainment spent the most on eating-out and food expenditures.
In a power system, an out-of-step condition causes a variety of risk such as serious damage to system elements, tripping of loads and generators, mal-operation of relays, etc. Therefore, it is very important to detect the out-of-step condition and take a proper measure. Several out-of-step detection methods have been employed in relays until now. Most common method used for an out-of-step detection is based on the transition time through the blocking impedance area in R-X diagram. Also, the R-R dot out-of-step relay, the out-of-step prediction method and the adaptive out-of-step relay using the equal area criterion (EAC) and Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) technology have been developed. This paper presents the out-of-step detection algorithm using the time variation of the complex power. The complex power is calculated and the mechanical power of the generator is estimated by using the electrical power, and then the out-of-step detection algorithm which is based on the complex power and the estimated mechanical power, is presented. This algorithm may detect the instant when the generator angle passes the Unstable Equilibrium Point (UEP). The proposed out-of-step algorithm is verified and tested by using Alternative Transient Program/Electromagnetic Transient Program (ATP/EMTP) MODELS.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship among personal attributions of daycare center teachers in fields, social support, and teachers' burn-out. Data were collected by 228 teachers in day care center. To examine the relationship among personal attributions of daycare center teachers in fields, social support, and teachers' burn-out, it was used the scale of 'the tendency of attributions', 'social supports', and 'burn-out'. To analyze data, Pearsons' correlation and multiple regression were used. The results of this study were as followed. First, the score of daycare center teachers' personal attributions, social support, and teachers' burn-out were higher than the mean score. Second, internal and external variables were related to burn-out factors. Third, attribute disposition were related to teachers' burn-out. As a whole, teachers were tend to be in internal attributions, which led to a tendency to show positive reactions against burn-out. Forth, social supports were related to teachers' burn-out.
The protection against transient instability and consequent out-of-step condition is a major concern for the utility industry. Unstable system may cause serious damage to system elements such as generators and transmission lines. Therefore, out-of-step detection is essential to operate a system safely. The detection of out-of-step is generally based upon the rate of movement of the apparent impedance. However such relay monitors only the apparent impedance which may not be sufficient to correctly detect all forms of out-of-step and cannot cope with out-of-step for a more complex type of instability such as very fast power swing. This paper presents the out-of-step detection algorithm using voltage frequency deviation. The digital filters based on discrete Fourier transforms (DFT) to calculate the frequency of a sinusoid voltage are used, and the generator angle is estimated using the deviation of the calculated frequency component of the voltage. The proposed out-of-step algorithm is based on the assessment of a transient stability using equal area criterion. The proposed out-of-step algorithm is verified and tested by using EMTP MODELS.
In the present study, laboratory pull-out tests with screw anchors are carried out to investigate behavior characteristics of underground structures applied uplift seepage forces. Small scaled pull-out tests in sand were conducted under saturated condition. And then, it was observed that the upward displacement as well as the pullout load varied with spacing of the anchor. Also, analyses have been performed with the aim of pointing out the effects of various parameters on the group effect of the screw anchors.
