Previous studies have found the significant adverse effects of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on stock returns and volatility. The effects varied with the confirmed cases and deaths. However, the extent of the effects have never been measured exactly. This study proposes a measurement model for the COVID-19 effects. In the proposed model, stock returns in the COVID-19 period are weighted averages of pre-COVID-19 normal returns and COVID-19-induced returns. The effects are measured by the contributing weights of the COVID-19-induced returns. Kalman filtering is used to estimate the model for the world and Chinese markets, in combination with 10 markets - five most affected countries (United States, India, Brazil, Russia, and France) and five best recovering countries (Hong Kong, Australia, Singapore, Thailand, and South Korea). The sample returns are daily, obtained from the closing Morgan Stanley global investable market indexes. The full period is from September 24, 2018, to October 30, 2020, whereas the COVID-19 period is from November 18, 2019, to October 30, 2020. The contributing weights are significant and close to 100% for all markets. The COVID-19-induced returns replace the pre-COVID-19 normal returns; they are negatively auto-correlated and highly volatile. The COVID-19-induced returns are new normal returns in the COVID-19 period.

This study investigates the presence of the day-of-the-week anomaly in exchange rate for 30 developing countries with free floating exchange rate regimes using daily data from January 2, 2011 to December 31, 2019. First, we apply the GARCH panel to estimate the intraday effect for all the sampled countries. Second, we run poolability test to check whether the coefficients of the GARCH panel are the same for all countries sampled. The result of poolability test rejects the homogeneity assumption. This implies that our sample countries contain heterogeneity. Third, we apply mean-group estimation by averaging the coefficients for all individual GARCH estimations. Fourth, we divided our sample of developing countries into three groups based on capital restriction index for the reason that the effect of monetary policy on the exchange rate depends on the degree of capital account liberalization. The empirical evidence for the return equation suggests that Mondays are connected with lower volatility whereas Thursdays experiences higher return compared to Tuesdays. The lowest estimated coefficient for full sample, group 1 and group 2, is Friday, but for group 2 is Thursday. We find similar result for the volatility equations, which show that Monday returns are lower compared to Tuesday. -

This purpose of this study is to investigate the association among mutual funds (MFs) risk measures and return parameters, evaluate mutual fund performance and also explore the best appropriate mutual fund performance measure for investment in Pakistan. Therefore, thirty-five mutual funds have been selected for the period 2007-2015. The Sharpe, Treynor, Jensen Alpha, Information ratio and Fama's Net Selectivity measures has been used to analyze MF performance. Our study findings show significant positive relation exist between Sharpe and Jenson alpha & information ratio (IR); Treynor ratio is negatively correlated to Jenson alpha and Jenson alpha is positively allied with IR. Moreover, association among performance measures, Fama's net selectivity is a major driver in leading to other measures but Sharpe and IR lead to Treynor ratio as well. Furthermore, performance measures are ranked in accordance standard deviation with the arrangement of Fama's net selectivity at top, Jenson Alpha at second, Sharpe ratio at third, IR at fourth and Treynor ratio at fifth position according to risk parameters in Pakistan. Overall, Jensen Alpha measure appears to be the best suitable mutual fund performance measure in Pakistan due to its practical nature. Finally, the Pakistani stock market index KSE100 (as benchmark) performs better than MF industry of Pakistan. -

We examine the effects of the sustainability report (SURE) and investment decision on share price (SPRC). Explore whether the sustainability report changes the value-relevance of financial accounting variables indirectly. It is evident that the number of banks is only 12, which are all banks in Saudi Arabia, and we have included all of them in the final sample. Moreover, the same number of banks applied for the analysis concerning the accounting variables. This article utilizes a panel dataset from a sample of Saudis registered banks from the first quarter of 2014 to the last quarter of 2018. We utilize a balanced sample that contains all banks listed in Tadawul, 240 observations. Run GLM regression to tests the relationships. Findings exhibit that investors value the complementary disclosure of accounting information provided in SURE, and this disclosure produces a positive effect on SPRC. The SURE figure is robustly significant, suggesting that the market assigns a positive-significant correlation to the further information in the SURE. The indirect effects show that BPS×SURE is a positive-significant effect on SPRC, whereas EPS×SURE is positively-insignificant. The analysis shows that SURE's value relevance conforms through Saudis Banks, consistent with the hypothesis that diverse institutional perspectives probably influence the value-relevance of SURE. -

This research attempts to formulate a new mean-risk model to replace the Markowitz mean-variance model by altering the risk measurement using ARCH variance instead of the original variance. In building the portfolio, samples used are closing prices of Indonesia Composite Stock Index and Indonesia Composite Bonds Index from 2013 to 2018. This study is a qualitative study using secondary data from the Indonesia Stock Exchange and Indonesia Bonds Pricing Agency. This research found that Markowitz's model is still superior when utilized in daily data, while the mean-ARCH model is appropriate with wider gap data like monthly observation. The Historical return has also proven to be more appropriate as a benchmark in selecting an optimal portfolio rather than a risk-free rate in an inefficient market. Therefore Mean-ARCH is more appropriate when utilized under data that have a wider gap between the period. The research findings show that the portfolio combination produced is inefficient due to the market inefficiency indicated by the meager return of the stock, while bears notable standard deviation. Therefore, the researcher of this study proposed to replace the risk-free rate as a benchmark with the historical return. The Historical return proved to be more realistic than the risk-free rate in inefficient market conditions. -
This study analyzes the validity of the Phillips curve with regards to Turkey. The existence and direction of the causality relationship (reason-outcome relationship) between unemployment and inflation is investigated using inflation and unemployment data for the period 1980-2019. Unit root tests were utilized to evaluate the stationarity of the series. In line with the Zivot-Andrews unit root test, which was developed in response to the criticism of the failure of studies that presented macro-variables like inflation to consider traditional unit root tests, in this research, the Engle-Granger cointegration test was implemented to check whether the series could perform a joint action, and, finally, the Granger causality relationship was explored. According to the results of the analysis, over the relevant period there was a single directional causality relationship from inflation toward unemployment in Turkey. The importance of this relationship at the 10% significance level indicates the existence of many different factors that affect inflation and unemployment. Given the existence of a cointegration and causality relationship between inflation and unemployment, it can be said that, in Turkey, the Phillips curve is valid for the period 1980-2019 and that an increase of 1% in inflation will reduce the unemployment rate by 0.028%.

The stock markets in the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) countries are the leading emerging markets globally. Therefore, it is pertinent to ascertain the critical drivers of stock market development in these economies. The currrent study empirically investigates to identify the linkages between stock market development, key macro-economic factors and institutional factors in the BRICS economies. The study covers the time period from 2000 to 2017. The dependent variable is the country's stock market development and the independent variables consist of six macroeconomic variables and five institutional variables. The study employs a panel cointegration test, Fully Modified OLS (FMOLS), a Pooled Mean Group (PMG) approach and a heterogeneous panel non-causality test. The findings of the study indicate co-integration among the selected variables across the BRICS stock markets. Long-run estimations reveal that five macroeconomic variables and four variables related to institutional quality are positive and statistically significant. Further, short-run causalities between stock market capitalization and selected variables are detected through the test of non-causality in a heterogeneous panel setting. The findings suggest that policymakers in the BRICS countries should enhance robust macroeconomic conditions to support their financial markets and should strengthen the institutional quality drivers to stimulate the pace of stock market development in their countries.

This research aims to investigate the impact of falling oil prices at the beginning of 2020 on 82 industrial companies listed on the GCC stock markets. The research sample period is divided into two periods pre-COVID and during COVID covering the period starting 1st January 2020 to May 15, 2020. The research uses the Panel Least Square (PLS) method and Panel Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) with fixed and random effects in each country. The results of GMM models reveal a positive relationship between oil prices and the share prices of industrial companies in the Gulf countries, which confirms that the share prices of industrial companies in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries have been negatively affected by the decline in oil prices with the beginning of 2020. The findings show that the highest impact of falling oil prices has been recorded in the industrial companies in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. However, the falling of oil prices does not have a significant effect on industrial companies in the state of Qatar. The research results suggest that GCC economies have to move on the path of non-reliance on Oil and gas-driven economy. -

This study aims to examine the causal links between the fiscal components, i.e., government expenditures (GE) and government revenues (GR), and their impact on the economic growth of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region. This analysis considered secondary panel data from 1990 to 2019 at an annual frequency. The data is obtained from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and World Bank Database. A panel cointegration and panel DH causality (Dumitrescu and Hurlin) approach was employed on financial data at an annual frequency from 1990 to 2019. The findings from panel unit root and panel cointegration tests demonstrate that, at first, all the variables are stationary and cointegrated. The panel ARDL disclosed that GE has a long-run connection with GDP, is significantly and positively associated with economic growth in the long run, whereas GR is significant in the short run. The contribution of GE is high in sustaining economic growth as compared to GR. Also, cointegration regression disclosed that GE is more sensitive toward GDP, while GR is less elastic. Lastly, the findings reveal that bidirectional causality exists between GE and GR variables. These results have policy implications for sustainable economic growth in the ASEAN region. -
Does Technological Progress, Trade, or Financial Globalization Stimulate Income Inequality in India?GIRI, Arun Kumar;PANDEY, Rajan;MOHAPATRA, Geetilaxmi 111
The main purpose of the present research is to analyze the effects of trade, financial globalization, and technological progress on income inequality in the Indian economy over the period from 1982 to 2018. For this purpose, the study uses economic growth, financial globalization, trade openness, technological development, and economic inequality variables with appropriate proxies. The study employs the Auto Regressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) approach to co-integration and VECM based Granger causality approach to estimate both the short-run and long-run relationship and causality among variables. Using the ARDL bounds test, the study finds a long-run co-integrating relationship existing among the variables in the model. The study confirms the existence of a positive and significant impact of technological progress on income inequality. Further, globalization's limited impact reflects two offsetting tendencies; trade globalization is associated with a reduction in income inequality, while financial globalization is related to an increase in inequality. The results of VECM based Granger causality approach further confirm that technological progress, trade, and financial globalization causes income inequality both directly and indirectly through economic growth and inflation. In case of India, the results of this research can significantly facilitate stakeholders and policymakers in devising policies towards effective globalization and technological innovation for inclusive growth. -

This study aims to examine the impact of audit committee characteristics on income management of companies listed on the Stock Exchange of Vietnam. Research data was collected from all 745 listed companies on Vietnam's stock market over four years, from 2015 to 2018. After excluding companies that did not qualify, there were 216 companies with 864 observations. With the help of dedicated software Stata 15, the impact of audit committee characteristics (through independent variables and control variables such as Audit Committee Independence, Auditing Committee size, Auditing Committee Expertise, Auditing Committee Meeting Frequency, Company Size, Financial Leverage, and Operating Cash Flow) to earning management through a multivariate regression model was determined. Research results from Vietnamese listed companies during this period show that the size and expertise of the audit committee are inversely related to the discretionary accruals representing earning management. At the same time, the research results also identify a positive relationship between firm size and earning management, and the inverse relationship between financial leverage, net cash flow from operating operations and earning management. However, the multivariate regression results do not find clear evidence of a relationship between audit committee independence and the audit committee meeting frequency to earning management. -

This study investigates and analyzes the difference in Indonesian banks' earnings quality in the pre-audit and post-audit period. This study also investigates the difference in audit quality done by public accounting firms. This study employs time series data taken from the unaudited and audited financial statements of banks listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange in 2012-2016. Sample selection is made by using a purposive sampling method. The population of this study is 43 banks, and after checking the data for validity and reliability, the final sample size was 26 banks. Audit quality is operationalized with the size of the auditor. Earnings quality is proxied by accruals calculated using the Beaver and Engel (1996) model. The data analysis method used in this study is the paired-sample t-test and chow test. This study shows that there is no difference in earnings quality in the pre-audit and post-audit period. This study also reveals no difference in audit quality between the big four and non-big four auditors. These findings mean that independent auditors do not play a useful role in increasing the reliability of accounting information presented by management to stakeholders. Besides, this study's results do not verify the agency theory regarding auditors' role to minimize opportunistic management behavior in preparing financial statements. -

The paper identifies the enablers (drivers) and inhibitors (barriers) influencing e-customs implementation in Vietnam (known as a developing country with a lower technological environment) along with determining the impact of e-customs on firm performance. The survey was conducted with the representatives (managers) of firms in five cities and provinces dominating Vietnam's international trade. The data was analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM). The findings show two significant drivers (enablers) - relative advantages and national culture, while compatibility and ease of use are the barriers. Previous studies showed that cultural dimensions related to 'uncertainty acceptance' and 'individualism' encourage innovation; however, this paper demonstrates that 'uncertainty avoidance' and 'collectivism' promote e-customs deployment in Vietnam. Previously, Vietnamese culture was known for scoring high on cultural dimensions related to 'power distance' and 'short-term orientation'. However, today, as an emerging country, Vietnamese has switched to 'low distance' and 'long-term orientation', especially in terms of e-customs innovation. Additionally, the paper also emphasized that e-customs implementation had a positive influence on firm performance in Vietnam. Based on the results of the paper, policy-makers can devise essential solutions to enhance e-customs implementation as well as managers of firms can set-up strategies to adapt to the modernized environment. -

This study examined the effect of Debt Equity Ratio (DER), Net Profit Margin (NPM), and Size on stock prices with company performance as measured by Return on Assets (ROA) as a mediating variable. The sample used is 136 manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) in the 2014-2018 period. This research was tested using a Warp PLS statistical test tool to prove the proposed hypothesis. The results showed that DER has a significant negative effect on ROA and a significant positive effect on Stock Price. NPM has a significant positive effect on ROA as well as a significant positive effect on Stock Price. While Size has a significant positive effect on ROA but has no effect on Stock Price. ROA has a significant positive effect on Stock Price. ROA does not act as a mediating variable in the relationship between Size and Stock Price; however, ROA acts as a mediating variable in the DER and Stock Price relationship, as well as, in the relationship between NPM and Stock Price. The implications of the results of this study can be used by investors in making investment decisions, paying attention to the company's financial aspects, namely DER, NPM, Size, and ROA. -
The purpose of this study is to propose policy implications for improving the efficiency of corporate income tax management in Vietnam, by analyzing the study factors affecting the efficiency of corporate income tax management (evidence from Mekong Delta provinces, Vietnam). This study used a primary data collection method and collected data of 329 enterprises, including 49 joint-stock companies and 280 limited liability companies in 3 provinces - Tra Vinh province, Soc Trang province, and Ben Tre province. By using the binary regression method, the author discovered eight factors affecting the efficiency of corporate income tax management in the Mekong Delta region such as the time of operation of the enterprises, type of business, gender, business results, tax amount temporarily paid, compliance with tax policies, business scale, and tax debt ratio. From the above research results, the author proposes policies to support Tax Departments to improve the efficiency of corporate income tax management in the Mekong Delta region in the future. These policies include - for further promoting the tax policy propaganda to enterprises, tax authorities need to promptly handle tax arrears, enhance the inspection of tax debt enterprises, and focus on the business models, gender, age of the business owners, etc.

This study aimed to examine the effect of corporate characteristics, including the industrial sector and scale of operation, financial leverage, profitability, operating period, and social reputation, on socio-ecological responsibility based on Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards. The study was conducted in the Indonesian context. A total of 90 public companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange were selected as samples, with an observation period of 10 years. A univariate regression analysis was applied to test the hypotheses. The results showed that the industrial sector, scale of operation, financial leverage, profitability, operating period, and social reputation of the corporate had a positive effect on socio-ecological responsibility. This study also obtained evidence that there were differences in the level of socio-ecological responsibility among the industrial sectors. The higher the relationship between the industrial sector and the possibility of the emergence of social and environmental issues, the higher the level of corporate socio-ecological responsibility. From a policy perspective, the implication of the results of this study was that it could be used as a consideration by the authorities or regulators in Indonesia, particularly the Financial Services Authority (OJK), in determining specific indicators of socio-ecological responsibility that must be carried out by corporates.

In recent years, Vietnam's economic growth rate has been attributed to the growth of many well-managed industries within Southeast Asia. Among them is the civil construction industry. Construction projects typically take a long time to complete and require a huge budget. Many socio-economic variables and factors affect total construction project costs due to market fluctuations. In recent years, crucial socioeconomic development indicators of construction reached a fairly high growth rate. Also, most infrastructure and construction projects have a high degree of complexity and uncertainty. This makes it challenging to predict the accurate project price. These challenges raise the need to recognize significant factors that influence the construction price index of civil buildings in Vietnam, both micro and macro. Therefore, this paper presents critical factors that affect the construction price index using the fuzzy extent analysis process in an uncertain environment. This proposed quantitative model is expected to reflect the uncertainty in the process of evaluating and ranking the influencing factors of the construction price index in Vietnam. The research results would also allow project stakeholders to be more informed of the factors affecting the construction price index in the context of Vietnam's civil construction industry. They also enable construction contractors to estimate project costs and bid rates better, enhancing their project and risk management performance. -

This study aims to analyze the determinants of macroeconomic and institutional stability on the development of the global sukuk market by controlling the effects of population. This study uses panel data namely GDP per-capita, exchange rate, and inflation as the proxies for macroeconomic stability sourced from the World Development Index, and six dimensions of Worldwide Governance Indicators (WGI) as institutional proxies sourced from WGI-World Bank. To make robust the relationship between macroeconomics and institutional on the global sukuk market, the population (POP) variable was included as a control variable. The development of sukuk uses a proxy for sukuk issuance in the International Islamic Financial Market, for the annual period from 2002-2017. The data was analyzed using the General Method of Moment, and the results show that by controlling the population effects that proved to be significant, GDP per-capita and the rule of law have a significant impact on the development of sukuk, especially when incorporating population effects as control variables, whereby further ascertaining the effect of each macroeconomic-stability variable and institutional stability on sukuk development, especially inflation, found not to affect sukuk development. These results also confirm the previous findings, whereby inflation remains controllable at a certain level for economic development. -
The study investigates the impact of the environmental protection tax, along with other factors such as attitude, subjective norm, environmental concern, and the availability of substitutes on the use of plastic bags in Vietnam. To achieve this objective, a questionnaire was prepared for data collection. The questionnaire employed a 5-point Likert scale with "completely disagree" at 1 and "completely agree" at 5. A total of 327 questionnaires were returned. However, only 291 valid responders were used in the analysis. The Cronbach's Alpha and the exploratory factor analysis were applied to test the scale reliability and discover the structure of the scales. Afterwards, we conducted the confirmatory factor analysis and the structural equation modeling to analyze collected data. The study shows that attitude is an important factor influencing the plastic bag use of consumers. Other factors that also lead to a decline in plastic bags are subjective norm and environmental concern. Meanwhile, the availability of substitutes does not affect consumers' green behavior. Moreover, the major findings of the research suggest the relationship between the environmental protection tax and the use of plastic bags is not statistically significant. In other words, tax policy may fail to change the habit of using plastic bags in Vietnam.

This study aims to examine (1) the association between the chief executive officer tenure and audit quality, (2) the relationship between chief executive officer duality and audit quality, (3) the association between board independence and audit quality, (4) the relationship between board size and audit quality, and (5) the role of controlling variables (client size, leverage debt, and business complexity) in controlling these relationships. The research sample includes 325 financial reports from manufacturing firms listed in Amman Stock exchange over the 2014-2018 period. The study relationships are tested by using logistic regression. The results revealed a negative relationship, but not significant between CEO tenure and independent directors with audit quality. In addition, the results showed there is a negative effect of CEO duality on audit quality; also the results revealed that there is a statistically significant effect on the board of directors (board size) on the AQ. In general, the coefficient estimates of controlling variables show that client size and leverage debt positively affect audit quality, and on the contrary, business complexity has an insignificant positive relationship with audit quality. The summary of the study findings play an active role to external auditor opinion on business practice in towered the corporate governance system. -
The paper examines the influence of ownership type on environmental performance of Chinese listed enterprises. China's environmental problems are attributed to the collusion between enterprises and economy-oriented local governments, which has allowed many companies to skirt environmental regulations. Especially, local state-owned enterprises (SOEs) tend to have worse environmental performance than private firms, under the wing of local governments, with whom they have a closer political connection. According to the report of the Environmental Protection Agency, currently the unacceptably poor environmental performance of local SOEs has severely hampered the realization of green economy in China. After examining the dataset of 15,996 firm-year observations from 2,688 listed firms, this paper found that, in the presence of central government supervision and personnel intervention, listed local SOEs will be forced to improve their environmental performance in accordance with standards set by the central government, which leads to better environmental performance than that of listed private firms (private firms). The result of two-stage regression also supports the conclusion. This shows increased supervision and personnel intervention from the central government can significantly improve the environmental performance of local SOEs. The research in this paper expects to make a contribution to attaining the goal of green economy in China.

The study examined the XBRL adoption process of Malaysian Business Reporting System (MBRS) by utilizing Everett Rogers' Diffusion of Innovation (DOI) theory. The study focused on the three phases, namely, knowledge gathering and persuasion phase, decision-making phase, and implementation phase of XBRL adoption process gathered from a government agency in Malaysia. This study employs a qualitative case study that incorporates semi-structured interviews with four members of the regulator. The results reveal that the regulator has realized the advantages, management support, and need to skills development in phase one. On the other hand, in phase two, it finds the way the regulator makes decision related to XBRL taxonomy and submission template, platform, tools and software. Through phase three, the regulator is concerned with the complexity of XBRL taxonomy, resources, external support, promotion, stakeholder involvement, limited trading pressure, critical mass, and professional bodies. The factors from each phase suggest an in-depth understanding on the experience of XBRL through the development of MBRS that provides a success story to the other government agencies and regulators in Malaysia. This study provides several insights on the factors that could contribute to the adoption of XBRL and the Diffusion of Innovation theory adoption process. -

Financial behavior and financial well-being are two closely related aspects of an individual's financial decision making. This study attempts to investigate the extent to which financial behavior influences financial well-being in the Indian scenario. The data is collected using a structured questionnaire from a sample of 150 respondents. The study employs Financial Management Behaviour Scale (FMBS) (Dew & Xiao, 2012) to measure financial behavior. Factor analysis and multiple regression are performed to find the influence of financial behavior on financial well-being. The findings of the study suggest that except for credit commitment all the other behavioral factors like future security, savings and investments, credit indiscipline, and financial consciousness have a significant impact on the financial well-being of an individual in the Indian scenario. The regression coefficients of financial well-being are strongly determined by financial consciousness. The study is a contribution to the existing behavioral studies literature and the model used identifies the factors that influence the financial well-being in the Indian scenario. The study is conducted during the year 2020, so the results could have been influenced by the economic scenario of the period. The results of the study can be used by financial advisors to understand the financial well-being in the Indian scenario. -
The purpose of the study is to determine the poverty and distributional effects of the implementation of Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion Law. The Computable General Equilibrium-Top Down Behavioral Microsimulation was used to obtain the effects of the tax reform on macroeconomic and microeconomic levels. Moreover, the Poverty Gap Index, Squared Poverty Gap Index, Foster, Greer, and Thorbecke Measures of Poverty, and Sen-Shorrocks-Thon Index were used to measure the poverty effect of the tax reform. Meanwhile, the Gini Coefficient and SST Gini Coefficient Index were used to measure the distributional effect of the tax reform. The results show that the implementation of the tax reform has resulted in a significant increase in household income and disposable income. Region IV has the highest estimated increase in household income. Meanwhile, Region IV remained to have the lowest household income. Further, the findings of this study suggest that the tax reform resulted in a significant decrease in the magnitude of poor and the number of poor in the Philippines. However, the result of the study also suggests that the effect of tax reform manifests no differences in terms of the poverty gap measured through the Foster, Greer, and Thorbecke poverty index due.

The Influence of Corporate Governance on Dividend Decisions of Listed Firms: Evidence from Sri LankaThis study investigates the role of corporate governance in the dividend decision of 198 non-financial companies listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange of Sri Lanka, over the period from 2009 to 2016. Four corporate governance indicators are used in this study; managerial ownership, the board size, board independence, and CEO duality. Furthermore, this study considers three control variables such as profitability, firm size, and corporate tax. This study employed the Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) model to estimate the regression models on panel data study. The major contribution of this study is exploring the insight into the effect of corporate governance factors on dividend decisions. The results of the study revealed that managerial ownership showed a significant positive impact on the dividend payout ratio. Board size showed a significant positive influence on the dividend payout ratio. Board independence negatively but significantly influenced the dividend payout ratio. CEO duality showed an insignificant negative impact on the dividend payout ratio. In the framework of these CG indicators, Sri Lankan listed firms are recommended to have dispersed ownerships, large Board size and maintain a balance of power and authority by separating the individual who is assuming the position of the CEO from the Chairperson of the Board and maintain at least two independent directors.

Although there are several studies on the impact of pesticides use, there is no consistent conclusion about such evidence on capturing the socioeconomic independence. The propose of this paper is to investigate the economy-wide impact of pesticide use in Thailand. The research data and methodology in this paper are depended on a social accounting matrix framework incorporating the pesticide-related illness as an additional sector, following Resosudarmo and Thorbecke (1998), to explain the impact of the pesticides on the related agricultural sector, food sector, and the social welfare of different households. Thus, the main characteristics of the Thai economy can be comprehensively described by providing information contained in this framework. In this respect, the several data sets are constructed to include the economic and social structure interdependencies, which are necessary to analyze the policy implications, especially industrial policy. The results were analyzed according to the general equilibrium theory and the Leontief multiplier matrix. It reveals that the food industry and the economy are significantly affected by the pesticides. One of the most interesting findings of this paper suggest that the food sector needs to determine its output to avoid bottleneck situations and create equality across the food production system. -

Risks and uncertainty are unavoidable problems in management of projects. Therefore, project managers should not only prevent risks, but also have to respond and manage them. Risk management has become a critical interest subject in the construction industry for both practitioners and researchers. This paper presents critical risk factors of office building projects in the construction phase in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Data was collected through a questionnaire survey based on the likelihood and consequence level of risk factors. These factors fell into five groups: (i) financial risk factors; (ii) management risk factors; (iii) schedule risk factors; (iv) construction risk factors; and (v) environment risk factors. The research results showed that critical factors affecting office building projects are natural (i.e., prolonged rain, storms, climate effects) and human-made issues (i.e., soil instability, safety behaviors, owner's design change) and the schedule-related risk factors contributed to the most significant risks for office buildings projects in the construction phase in Ho Chi Minh City. They give construction management and project management practitioners a new perspective on risks and risk management of office buildings projects in Ho Chi Minh City and are proactive in the awareness, response, and management of risk factors comprehensively. -

This study examines the impact of bank competition and efficiency in the financial stability of the banking sector in Bangladesh. The study used the Lerner index and the Boone indicator to represent the bank competition, while the non-performing loan (NPL) and Z-score are used to represent financial stability. The secondary data were collected from the annual reports of 28 DSE listed commercial banks of Bangladesh over the period from 2011 to 2018. Using a dynamic panel GMM model, the study found the Lerner index is significantly negatively related with Z-score, which means that higher bank competition results in higher bank stability. It is also seen that higher cost efficiency results in higher bank stability. The Lerner index has negative, but insignificant impact on NPL. Similarly, using the Boone indicator, this study found that lower competition increases NPL. In terms of the Z-score, the Boone indicator found that 1 unit of increment results in decrease of the Z-score by 6.15 units. The study suggests that, as more competition results in more financial soundness, the banking industry competition should be ensured by policymakers or regulators. Banks could enhance financial stability by cost control to achieve cost efficiency as well as by improving loan-to-asset ratio. -

The mobile payment system has not only changed the payment pattern but also has improved the performance of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and individuals' quality of life by saving their energy, reducing the risk of taking cash, and enabling them to give more time to businesses and do international business. Besides, with the current advancement in the Internet as well as the digital transformation, SMEs are being forced to adopt mobile payment systems (MPS). The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of technological-organizational-environmental (TOE) determinants on the adoption of MPS and its impact on SMEs' firm performance operating in Ghana. This research employed a closed-ended questionnaire to collect data from January 2020 - April 2020. This study used a structural equation modeling (SEM) approach using SmartPLS 3.0 for path analysis of 145 responses. The findings of the study include the statistically significant effects of technological (relative advantage and compatibility), organizational (top management support and employees' readiness), and environmental (social influence and competitive pressure) factors on the adoption of MPS. Furthermore, this study also proved the positive and statistically significant effect of MPS on SMEs' performance. This study demonstrated that the TOE factor explains 70% variations in the adoption of MPS. -

This study aims to explore the relationship between entrepreneurial role models (ERM) and entrepreneurship education (EE) on individual entrepreneurial orientation (EO) and its consequences for entrepreneurial intention (EI). Data is obtained through a survey method on 255 management and business university students who had completed the entrepreneurship education program. To evaluate the research model, the data is processed using PLS-SEM. The results of this study indicate that the existence of entrepreneurial role models and entrepreneurial education programs for students affects the components of individual entrepreneurial orientation, namely individual innovativeness, individual proactiveness, and individual risk-taker. However, ERMs do not have a direct effect on EI. The main finding of this research appears on the influence of individual EO on EI, which indicates that only individual innovativeness impacts entrepreneurial intention. Meanwhile, personal proactiveness and risk-takers are proven to have no impact on EI. This study succeeded in filling the research gap, namely, examining the influence of ERMs on each of the components forming an individual entrepreneurial orientation (IEO) and its EI. This research model also provides a comprehensive research model on the influence of pre-entrepreneurial exposure on IEO and its consequences on EI. -

Originating in value congruence theory, this study aims to give a clear understanding of the transformation process of consumers from incumbent technology to disruptive innovation technology. Moreover, the moderating effect of personal innovativeness in the process of consumers' switching to disruptive innovation is investigated. This study combines value congruence with expectation-disconfirmation theory, technology-switching theory, and the personal innovativeness of the disruptive innovation product, explaining why consumers have transformed from an incumbent product into a disruptive innovation. Data was collected through a questionnaire from 280 smartphone users in China. The respondents were mainly potential consumers who had never bought Redmi phones, namely, a smart product owned by the renowned Chinese company Xiaomi. The hypothesis of the research model is based on the example of the Redmi smartphone, which has been confirmed by existing smartphone users in China. Through investigation, the results of multivariable regression analysis show the decisive variables that influence consumer intentions, and we analyze the role of personal innovativeness in moderating between dissatisfaction with the incumbent product and purchase intention of a product based on disruptive innovation. The findings of this study can provide a certain reference for the sustainable growth of Xiaomi and the development of new products. -

In the wake of several high-profile corporate accounting scandals, there has been evidence that companies are more eager to hire Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) with an accounting background. This signals that CEOs with an accounting background are recognized and trusted by the corporate world to boost the quality of financial reporting of a company. If it is so, in the context of combating the earnings management, hiring CEOs with an accounting background (being a conservative accounting practitioner), could become one of the effective internal corporate governance mechanisms (CGM) to bring down the earnings management activities. This study attempts to provide insight into the level of conservatism of the CEO with an accounting background. Following Basu (1997) and Khan and Watt (2009), the firm-year measure of conservatism (C_Score) was obtained, which later was associated with the accounting education of the CEO to determine their relationship. As expected, CEOs with accounting background exhibit a higher level of moral reasoning than their non - accounting educated counterparts. The finding of this study is useful to persuade the policymaker to consider lifting the trend of hiring a CEO with an accounting background as one of the best practices that the companies can work out to lessen earnings management activities. -

The objective of the study is to empirically investigate the impact of bank capital on the lending behavior of Vietnamese commercial banks from 2007 to 2019. Lending behavior is captured by two dimensions, including the quantity (loan growth) and quality (credit risk) of loans. Instead of investigating loan growth and credit risk separately, we combine these two aspects in our study and further develop the interaction term between capital buffers and credit risk to capture the asymmetric impact. We apply the dynamic model (regressed by the generalized method of moments) and the static models (regressed using the fixed effects, random effects, and the pooled regression approach) to perform regressions. The results show that banks with higher capital ratios tend to expand lending more, while the risk of credit portfolios is controlled at lower levels at these banks. Further analysis reveals that credit risk mitigates some aspects of the relationship between bank capital and loan expansion. The patterns remain robust across alternative measures and econometric techniques. The study provides insightful policy implications for bank managers and regulators in the process of upgrading capital resources to ensure the safety and soundness of the banking industry in an emerging country. -

This study mainly aims to examine the effect of intangible assets on the value relevance of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)-listed non-financial firms. This study tested three types of models by using a large sample of non-financial firms listed in GCC countries as emerging markets from 2008 to 2016. The types of models are accounting information (earnings per share and book value of share) without intangible assets model, intangible assets model, and accounting information (earnings per share and book value of share) with intangible assets model. Ordinary least square (OLS) shows mixed results as intangible assets improve the value relevance of accounting information positively in UAE and negatively in Kuwait but not in other countries. The study documents a robust positive relationship between intangible assets and earnings quality in terms of value relevance in KSA and Qatar. The findings provide implications for policymakers, investors, and managers. The results suggest that intangible assets can improve the value relevance in emerging markets, such as GCC, as the need to organize the requirements of information disclosures on intangible assets and provide great transparency and additional disclosure of information about intangible assets and their components. -

The study tests resilience and work ethics as mediators between charismatic leadership and affective commitment to change. Many organizations, such as banking, insurance companies, and financial institutions, face strong competition and consequently need to effect considerable change within the organization. Many variables have a significant impact on the success of organizational change, and people (resilience and work ethics) as well as change leaders are primary variables in this research. This study, using structural equation modeling, was conducted on a sample of 355 employees from banking and insurance companies. In this study, the inventory of affective commitment to change, the Conger-Kanungo charismatic leadership scale, resilience, and work ethic inventory was used. The results showed that resilience is a partial mediator between charismatic leadership and affective commitment to change. Meanwhile, work ethic was not a mediator between the two variables. The results showed that charismatic leadership can have a direct, positive, and significant impact on affective commitment to change without mediators, and that resilience can act as partial mediator. Furthermore, work ethic had a significant and positive effect on affective commitment to change through resilience. In other words, resilience is a full mediator for the impact of work ethic on affective commitment to change. -

This study aims to identify variables, which have relationship to the information credibility toward brand trust. Other than that, this study also proposes a system dynamics approach method, where the time to achieve different credible information can be modeled efficiently and by using variable-oriented simulation methods. Data, which are used for testing, are derived from 400 questionnaires. Data for SEM are collected by using questionnaire and are processed using AMOS software to identify the result whether it is proper to determine the proper variables and the indicators, which will be processed in the simulation using Powersim. The result shows that, from six variables proposed, five are significant variables that support the information credibility. The value of information credibility has fluctuated in 10 years. The important aspect in business activity is a business strategy that incorporates marketing activities. Many companies are adopting green marketing practice to achieve a better business performance, so that information credibility factor is needed. Over the past few years, numerous industries in Indonesia have increased awareness toward green movement. Some companies apply the whole process of creating green products, while others only do so partially, but this is a good approach to green business development in Indonesia nonetheless. -
The study aims to investigate the process employed by companies to intentionally create market categories through implementation of product strategy. Much of the research on market category formation focuses on the spontaneous emergence of market categories, with a few studies focusing on the intentional creation of market categories. In the course of this study, I therefore sought to understand the logic by which companies intentionally create market categories, by treating the process through which market categories are formed as a sensemaking process, and by treating the behavior of a company intentionally forming a market category as an effort to manage this sensemaking process. In empirical study, we conducted an exploratory case analysis through content analysis of company press releases and consumer reviews. It is possible that market categories can be formed or changed if the way in which they are shared among market participants can be changed. In this study, we identified two sense-giving activities for the creation of market categories by firms as follows: (1) reorganizing market categories that flat-panel TV manufacturers in the North American market have attempted to form into subcategories of smart TVs, and (2) connecting them to surrounding categories through strategic labeling to establish new categories.

Economic globalization provides a good channel for the development of foreign trade around the world. Due to this background, this paper sets the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries as a sample to explore the importance of international logistics in foreign trade. An annual panel data from 2000 to 2017 will be used to conduct an empirical estimation under the panel unit root test and the fixed effect model. Foreign trade is treated as an explained variable and international logistics is treated as explanatory variables. The findings show that international logistics have a positive spillover effect on export trade and the speed of international logistics development has a regulatory effect on the relationship between both of them, which presents a U-shaped curve. When the speed of international logistics development is slow, an increase of it restrains the positive spillover effect of international logistics on export trade. However, when it rises to a certain extent, this increase releases the positive spillover effect of international logistics on export trade. As can be seen by the evidence that this paper provides, the impact of international logistics on foreign trade is dynamic. Moreover, this paper also puts forward some corresponding measures about the relationship between both of them. -

Employers and employees are seriously suffering from perceived organizational politics exhibited in the workplace, and they are searching for remedial ways. The current study was carried out to measure the (i) effects of the employees' perceived organizational politics on their behavioral outcomes, and (b) the remedial role of employees' social astuteness in the relationship of their perceived organizational politics to behavioral outcomes (i.e., work engagement and turnover intention). Seven hundred and twenty-five employees working in Nepalese A graded banks were surveyed to collect the perceptual cross-sectional data. The data were quantitatively analyzed, adopting the deducting reasoning approach. Regression analysis revealed that (i) perceived organizational politics negatively impacted on work engagement and positively impacted on turnover intention, (ii) social astuteness moderated the relationship between perceived organizational politics and employees' behavioral outcome. Moreover, perceived organizational politics' detrimental impact was less severe for employees who possess high social astuteness as compared to those who have less social astuteness. The remedial effect of social astuteness was measured more useful for high organizational politics perceiver than for low perceiver. A number of theoretical and practical implications are suggested to improve the employees' behavioral outcomes from the detrimental impact of perceived corporate politics.

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between transformational leadership and organizational performance with readiness to change and empower knowledge sharing quality as mediating variables. The survey was conducted by collecting the respondents' data by filling up forms which were designed using the google form application and collecting it using WhatsApp. This was performed on 400 respondents, encompassing employees from the National Agency of Drug and Food Control in Indonesia. The research model adopted was validated using Structural Equation Modeling technique with AMOS tool. The findings showed transformational leadership as a significant predictor of readiness to change and it proved relevant in empowering knowledge sharing quality, which in turn affects organizational performance. Furthermore, the effects of both two mediating variables was also examined, and only readiness to change significantly influenced the relationship between predictors of transformational leadership and organizational performance. The findings of this study showed the need for transformational leaders as the research focused on understanding the differences in employee character. This is required to encourage better performance by empowering quality knowledge dissemination mechanisms, with continuous in-house training activities. Therefore, the model adopted in this research and the hypotheses prove the direct effect of transformational leadership on organizational performance, achievable through the mediating role of readiness to change. -

For civil servants in the legal sector, the best performance that must be shown is not how they carry out activities following standard operational procedures but what is more important is how they show Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB) in daily activities. This study aims to examine what factors influence the formation of OCB civil servants in the legal sector in Indonesia. The study was conducted on 145 civil servant respondents who were involved in secretarial activities, each from the Judicial Commission Secretariat, the Attorney General's Office, the Ministry of Justice, the Supreme Court, the Police Headquarters, and the Constitutional Court. The research methodology used Partial Least Square (PLS) Version 3.0. The empirical findings of the research show that organizational culture has a significant influence in shaping transformational leadership that can build OCB among civil servants in Indonesia. This effect is much larger and more significant than the compensation system, which is widely believed to be the main factor in forming OCB, such as the results of previous studies. The results of this study imply that the formation of an organizational culture with values that can create high work productivity which has an impact on transformational leadership styles in building OCB. -

Objectively, the purpose of this study aims to re-confirm and analyze the relationship between variables through direct relationships and mediation (i.e., career optimism (CO), organizational fairness (OF), organizational entrepreneurship commitment (OEC) on employee engagement). This study also addresses whether career optimism provides a strong-impact if it mediates other antecedent variables on employee engagement. Therefore, to test and prove this, we made observations on 200 samples comprising lecturers in Indonesia. The data collection method uses a survey both offline and online. Through the PLS-SEM approach, the statistical testing demonstration states that all hypotheses, either through direct relationship or mediation, are proven to have a positive and significant effect. Career optimism has also proven to be a substantial and positive contribution to testing employee engagement as a mediating variable. The results of seven hypothesis testing in our study confirm that the broaden-built theory and organizational theory are closely related. Therefore, this study positively contributes to human resource management's science to balance the psychological and organizational aspects. In this study, we also add that consistency and a positive attitude in a career trigger a person's career optimization in a better and more positive direction, especially for career-path and employee engagement. -

The purpose of this study is to develop a Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), to determine differences in gender perceptions in adopting non-cash transactions. In this study, the authors provide a measurement of differences in gender perceptions in adopting cashless, which refers to perceived usefulness, perceived ease-of-use, and perceived security. Respondents in this study were students from the millennial generation who are very familiar with the use of technology, especially non-cash transactions. The data collection technique used in this study was a survey, by distributing questionnaires to 260 respondents. The data were processed statistically through Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The results of this study indicate that for men, ease-of-use of transactions does not increase the use of non-cash transactions. Meanwhile, for women, perceived ease-of-use has a significant and positive effect on the use of non-cash transactions. Furthermore, perceptions of usability and security have a positive and significant impact on using non-cash transactions. It was also found that female students had a positive, but not significant, effect on the use of non-cash transactions. This means that there has been a difference in the perception of gender, between men and women, in responding to the use of non-cash transactions. -

SmartPLS 3.0 is used to help analyze the relationship between variables. The result shows that the reward does not have a direct influence on the performance of employees. However, it has a significant positive effect on the performance of employees through employee engagement. While working motivation variable does not have the role as a mediation variable related to the effect of reward on employee performance. -
This article analyzes the factors affecting income inequality in Vietnam, with data from 63 provinces and cities collected from the Vietnam Household Living Standards Survey of the General Statistics Office of Vietnam from 2010 to 2018. The article will firstly build a research model to identify factors affecting income inequality. Then, it uses the Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) method to evaluate the effect of factors on income inequality in Vietnam. The empirical estimate result shows that, in the period from 2010 to 2018, the factors such as the proportion of the working employees, income per capita, and inflation have positive effects on the Gini coefficient. That is, when these factors increase, there will be negative effects on improving income inequality in Vietnam. Conversely, when the factors such as the proportion of the literate adults, the proportion of the urban population, and population density increase they will have a positive impact on improving income inequality in Vietnam during this period. The estimated coefficients satisfied the sign expectation except the proportion of the literate adults. It means that, in Vietnam, the increase and more equilibrium in educational attainment balance the distribution of income and bring an improvement in income inequality.

This study investigated the effect of the Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM) microfinancing on the economic, social, and household empowerment of women borrowers in Malaysia. The study used a quantitative approach based on primary data. For this study, the participants comprised 384 AIM borrowers from Terengganu, Kelantan, and Pahang in the east coast region of Malaysia. Purposive stratified random sampling was used as well as the Krejcie and Morgan method to count the number of samples. Descriptive statistics and the Women Empowerment Index (WEI) were used in the analysis. The study findings reveal that AIM microfinancing affects the economic, social, and household empowerment of women borrowers in Malaysia. However, in comparing the three categories, women enjoyed more freedom in social and household decision-making than in economic decision-making. The present study recommends policies for the successful and effective operation of microfinance programs by providing the necessary guidelines for the control of AIM loan for women borrowers; increasing income-generating activities, sufficient access of credit, and proper education for the borrowers; and giving economic freedom of choice with necessary skill training policymaking options for the government and NGOs with the aim to improve the total household income and empowerment of the microcredit borrowers in Malaysia. -

The aim of this study is to test the direct relationship and the indirect relationship of the perceived organizational support to lecturers' research motivation through "expectation" factor (belief in ability). The subject of the study is lecturers who are teaching and researching in the fields of economic, management and business administration at universities in Vietnam. The questionnaires were directly sent to lecturers at scientific conferences, sent out via e-mail and Facebook, the questionnaires were designed on google docs and directly sent to the lecturers. The detailed sample includes 475 respondents. The results of a quantitative analysis with a research sample of 475 lecturers in economics universities in Vietnam show that it is impossible to separate between lecturers' research ability and motivation. Lecturers with increased expectation (in terms of capability) also have increased research motivation, and vice versa. At the same time, the research also affirms the role of perceived organizational support, which not only has a direct positive impact on research motivation, but also increases expectation, thus, indirectly influence research motivation. This suggests that the solution for managers who want to improve research motivation by having measures to increase the expectation for the lecturers through various forms of organizational support. -

This causal quantitative research aims to investigate the influence of factors that determine the performance of employees in Indonesian universities. The factors are crucial for organizations in the achievement of their goals. Based on theoretical studies, three independent variables, namely, training, personality, and work motivation were tested for their influence on employee performance, which was the dependent variable. Primary data were obtained from 94 respondents of a total population of 122 individuals at the Education Quality Assurance Institute (LPMP) in Banten Province, Indonesia. They were tested by the normality test using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov approach to ensure their normally distributed population and the linearity test to measure the significant linear relationship between the two variables. There are five hypotheses in this study. Each hypothesis tested by the F-test to determine the significant effect of all independent variables on the dependent variable, and t-test to analyze the effect. The results of this study answered all hypotheses of the research model. There is a positive direct effect of training and personality on work motivation. Both training and personality also affect positively employee performance. Another finding of this study is that employee performance is positively and directly affected by work motivation. -

This paper aims to analyze factors influencing earnings of workers in Vietnam using provincial-level data from 2016 to 2018. We show the important determinants of earnings of workers of more than 15 years old including working hour, labor force, life expectancy, education, regulation measured by Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI) and especially Industry 4.0, our major depart from literature proxies by government expenditure on science and technology, number of phone lines, and number of internet users. Working hours are a typical measurement of quantity of labor supplied. Labor force represents market size from the supply side. Life expectancy measures the health of laborers, a physical quality measure of workers. PCI stands for institutional status of the locality. Two most important factors of our interest are education, representing qualification of workers, and Industry 4.0, reflecting the new working environment of workers. By estimating a robust standard error fixed-effect model, we have evidence that all factors are significant in explaining earnings of Vietnamese workers. Education and IR4.0 play an important role in earnings of workers of Vietnam. Results also provide an estimation of Vietnam's labor supply in the context of Industry 4.0. In addition, findings contribute to explain the income discrepancy among Vietnamese provinces. -

This study explores the impact of stochastic volatility in option pricing. To be more specific, we compare the option pricing performance between stochastic volatility option pricing model, namely, Heston option pricing model and standard Black-Scholes option pricing. Our finding, based on the market price of SET50 index option between May 2011 and September 2020, demonstrates stochastic volatility of underlying asset return for all level of moneyness. We find that both deep in the money and deep out of the money option exhibit higher volatility comparing with out of the money, at the money, and in the money option. Hence, our finding confirms the existence of volatility smile in Thai option markets. Further, based on calibration technique, the Heston option pricing model generates smaller pricing error for all level of moneyness and time to expiration than standard Black-Scholes option pricing model, though both Heston and Black-Scholes generate large pricing error for deep-in-the-money option and option that is far from expiration. Moreover, Heston option pricing model demonstrates a better pricing accuracy for call option than put option for all level and time to expiration. In sum, our finding supports the outperformance of the Heston option pricing model over standard Black-Scholes option pricing model. -

The purpose of this study is to explore the reaction of sharia stock in the Indonesian capital market to the global Covid-19 pandemic. The method used in this study is an event study with a Market Adjusted Model (MAM) approach. The population of this study is shares listed on the Indonesian Stock Exchange (IDX), with the sample chosen from the Jakarta Sharia (Islamic) Index. The result of this study found that the global Covid-19 pandemic is bad news, with the indicators as follows: a) the average expected return is negative; b) the average actual return is negative; c) the average abnormal return is negative, and d) the increase selling action of stock as a cut loss strategy. There is a negative abnormal return and significant Trading Volume Activity (TVA) before, during, and after the announcement of the global Covid-19 pandemic. However, this study found no difference in abnormal return and TVA before and after the announcement of the global Covid-19 pandemic. From these results, this study indicates that the sharia stocks in the capital market in Indonesia can respond quickly to the information that existed. Therefore, the capital market of Indonesia is a capital market with a semi-strong efficient form. -

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the profitability of the momentum effects on the Oman Stock Market (OSM). This study uses the monthly returns of all stocks listed on the OSM, with a total of 107 companies used in the study for the period from 2005 to 2018. According to the methodology developed by Jegadeesh and Titman (1993), this study builds momentum portfolios based on various sizes. Moreover, the January effect is also examined to recognize if this effect is related to the momentum effect. The results find that there is evidence of momentum returns and these returns are statistically and economically significant. The sub-periods confirmed the profitability of the momentum strategy. This paper shows that momentum returns are evident at different sizes; big, medium, and small-sized portfolios. Besides, the result shows that the classic January effect does not play an important role in the momentum returns. Thus, the implication is that the momentum should not take into account the annual, seasonal, and size returns. The capital asset pricing model (CAPM) or the three-factor model cannot explain momentum returns generated by individual stocks in the Oman Stock Market. These results are useful to academia and investors alike. -

This study investigates whether the Islamic Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs) provide significant benefit to investors relative to conventional ETFs. Six pairs of Islamic and conventional ETFs with 10-year daily price data from 2010 to 2019 have been selected from major market indices like MSCI World Index, MSCI Emerging Markets, MyETF Dow Jones Islamic Market Malaysia, MSCI South East Asia and Wahed FTSE Shariah USA Index for this study. For ETFs that are launched after 2010, the price data from launch date to 2019 are used. Our results show: First, Islamic ETFs are more likely to trade at a premium rather than at a discount, implying the investors are willing to pay a premium. Second, it is also found that Islamic ETFs have a relatively shorter period of price deviation from the benchmark, implying more price stability. Third, conventional ETFs have higher return and lower tracking errors relative to Islamic ETFs. These new findings add to the stylized facts of Islamic ETFs in the extant literature for investors, plan sponsors and regulators as to the differences between the ETFs. As policy suggestion, asset management companies can design new investment products to bridge the gap between conventional and Islamic finance. -

The primary purpose of the study is to investigate the volatility spillover from financial uncertainty (FU) of the United States (US) to the stock markets of SAARC member countries including India, Sri-Lanka, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. The empirical literature overlooked SAARC countries and the FU index. Based on the estimation method, the data of FU is available for three different forecast horizons including 1-month, 3-months, and 12-months. For empirical analysis, monthly data is used from February 2013 to September 2019. EGARCH model is employed to investigate the volatility spillover effects. The findings of the study show that the spillover effect of FU varies with the forecast horizon. The FU with a higher forecast horizon has a significant spillover effect on more countries. The spillover effect of US financial uncertainty is negative in most of the SAARC countries. Bangladesh stock market is influenced by FU with all three forecast horizons whereas the volatility of the Pakistan stock market is not influenced by FU with any forecast horizon. The findings are consistent with the concept of "limited trade openness" in the financial markets of emerging economies. The emerging economies avoid financial market openness to minimize the risk of spillover of other countries. -

Using a DCC - GARCH model analysis, this paper examines the existence of financial contagion from the U.S. stock market to the Vietnamese and the Philippine stock markets during the global financial crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic crisis. We use daily data from the S&P 500 (U.S.), VN-Index (Vietnam), and the PSEi (the Philippines). As a result, there is no evidence of contagion from the U.S stock market to the Philippine stock market that can be found during global financial crisis, while the Vietnamese market is influenced by this effect. Besides, both these developing stock markets (the Vietnamese and Philippine stock markets) are influenced by the contagion effect in COVID-19 pandemic crisis. Another finding is that the contagion effect during the coronavirus pandemic crisis in Vietnam is smaller than that during the global financial crisis, however, the opposite is the case for the Philippines. It is noticed that the Philippines seems to be more affected by the contagion effect from the COVID-19 pandemic than Vietnam at the time of this study. Because financial contagion is important for monetary policy, asset pricing, risk measurement, and portfolio allocation, the findings in this paper may give some useful information for policymakers and investors. -
The purpose of this study is to identify major drivers of Myanmar's long-term economic growth and draw implications to implement development policies. This study investigated Myanmar, as the country is the most recently opened economy in Southeast Asia. This study conducted simulation analysis based on scenarios by applying World Bank's Long-Term Growth Model, Penn World Table 9.1, and World Development Indicator data. This study makes extensive use of LTGM and the LTGM-TFP extension to improve the validity of models for data calibration. This study confirms the validity of the model with data calibration and specifies scenarios for simulation analyses by setting the growth trajectory of Vietnam due to common geographical, political, and economic conditions. Main findings include that Myanmar's economic growth rate will continue to fall below 3% in 2040 without proper improvement of growth drivers. The results of this study also provide that total factor productivity growth and female labor participation are key factors for Myanmar's long-term economic growth. This study advises policymakers in Myanmar to strengthen human capital, which is crucial for total factor productivity growth in Myanmar's context and directly affects economic growth. Further, labor market policies to promote female labor participation is important to sustain economic growth.

The remittances play a major and a very critical role in promoting economic growth and development activities in the developing countries. In this study, the relationship between per capita gross domestic product (GDP) and remittances paid has been investigated based on the case studies in Malaysia from 1987 to 2018. Data was collected from various sources namely statistical yearbook by World Bank and Asian Development Bank. All variables are expressed in natural logarithm form. The technique utilized is the nonlinear autoregressive distributed lags (hereafter NARDL) approach which was introduced by Shin et al.(2014) to examine both short run and long run relationships, as well as the direction of causality, due to the asymmetric relationship between GDP and remittances. The bound test verifies asymmetric cointegration among the variables. The empirical results show that the remittances paid has a momentous short-run and long-run effect towards capital accumulation in Malaysia. Remittances also increase a positive relationship with capital accumulation for Malaysia. We found that remittances form a significant source of external capital and investment for developing countries especially Malaysia which helps in promoting economic development. Furthermore, as a developing country, foreign workers are a source of income to the receiving countries and an indicator to boost sender countries.

Along with the trend of financial globalization, Vietnam has undergone a process of increasing financial integration. The great capital inflow poses a problem for the monetary policy's ability to follow a planned target during the changes in the global financial markets. This paper aims to examine the impact of financial integration on monetary policy independence in Vietnam and investigate the role of foreign exchange reserves on this relationship. The research borrows from Mundell-Fleming's Trilemma theory. The results show that increasing financial integration reduces the independence of monetary policy in the short term, and foreign exchange reserves have not shown an apparent role in Vietnam. In addition, increasing exchange rate stability has a negative impact on the independence of monetary policy, but it has an impact on growing market confidence and partly supporting the management process of monetary policy in the short term. Therefore, in the long run, Vietnam needs to allow exchange rate flexibility more, but there should not be sudden changes; the size of foreign exchange reserves should be strengthened to facilitate the implementation of an independent monetary policy with an obvious impact in the context of an increasing scale of international capital flows in the future. -

The issue of the relationship between environmental degradation and human health has been widely addressed by medical doctors. However, economists have sparsely debated it. The release of carbon dioxide (CO2) into the air can cause several environmental problems and, thus, it can affect human health. Therefore, it is imperative to examine the effect of CO2 emissions on life expectancy in the D-8 countries (Malaysia, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Egypt, Iran, Pakistan, and Turkey) from 1992 to 2017. The panel ARDL method is employed and, then, the PMG estimator is selected. The results show that economic growth, population growth and health expenditure can significantly and positively affect life expectancy, but CO2 emissions can have a significant and negative effect on life expectancy. Since, the major findings reveal that life expectancy can be explained by CO2 emissions. Hence, it is important to formulate policies on reducing CO2 emissions so that life expectancy will not be affected. Energy diversification policies should be formulated or improved in some countries. This is to ensure that the countries are not highly dependent on non-renewable energy that can harm the environment. The government should increase its expenditure on the health sector to save more lives by extend human lifespan. -
The study aimed to investigate the impact of sectoral bank credit facilities provided by commercial banks on the non-oil economic growth in Saudi Arabia. Bank credit facilities are given for nine economic sectors: agriculture, manufacturing, mining, electricity and water, health services, construction, wholesale and retail trade, transportation and communications, services, and finance sector. The study employs annual data from 1970 to 2019. The study employs the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) approach to identify the long-run and short-run dynamics relationships among the variables. The main results reveal that the overall impact of total bank credit has a significant and positive effect on non-oil economic growth in KSA. The results revealed that the effect of bank credit on the non-oil GDP growth in the short and long run was uneven. The study finds that all sectors have a positive and significant impact in the long run, except for the agricultural and mining sectors. Likewise, all sectors have a positive and significant impact in the short run, except for construction, finance, services, and transportation & communications. As a result, bank credit facilities in different sectors have played an important role in enhancing the non-oil economic growth in the KSA.

Earnings management is very important for companies that aim for decision-making. The research was conducted to analyze the quality of earnings and income smoothing motives in manufacturing companies in Indonesia. The research approach is carried out with a quantitative approach. The sampling method using purposive sampling was associated with several criteria so that a sample of 130 was determined, which was analyzed during the 4 years of the study. The partial least square method was used for data analysis. The results of the study state that institutional ownership has no effect on earnings quality, institutional ownership has a negative effect on income smoothing, leverage has a negative effect on income smoothing, independent commissioners have a positive effect on earnings quality as well as independent commissioners have a positive effect on income smoothing. We assume that the tendency of income smoothing can affect the quality of efficient earnings. Meanwhile, income smoothing affects the quality of company earnings. Management that performs income smoothing is more aimed at conveying the company's prospects for generating profits rather than opportunistic motives. -

Cloud accounting represents a new area of accounting information systems. Past research has often focused on accounting information systems and its antecedents, rather than factors that adopt cloud accounting system. The purpose of this paper is to explain the factors that influence the adoption of cloud accounting in the financial sectors. This paper applied the technology acceptance model (TAM), technology-organization-environment, and the De Lone and Mc Lean model, coupled with proposed factors relevant to cloud accounting. The proposed model was empirically evaluated using survey data from 187 managers (financial managers, IT department managers, audit managers, heads of accounting departments, and head of internal control departments) in Jordanian bank branches. Based on the SEM results, top management support, organizational competency, service quality, system quality, perceived usefulness, and perceived ease of use had a positive relationship with the intention of using cloud accounting. Cloud accounting adoption positively affected cloud accounting usage. This paper contributes to a theoretical understanding of factors that activate the adoption of cloud accounting. For financial firms in general the results enable them to better develop cloud accounting framework. The paper verifies the factors that affect the adoption of cloud accounting and the proposed cloud accounting model. -

The Knowledge Transfer (KT) for higher education institutions (HEIs) is boundless. Still and all, the members of the staff affiliated with these institutions do recognize an array of hitches in relation to KT practices. The study in question underscores social interactions, training, and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) as the primary barriers and treats them as the independent variables of the study. The study posits that inadequate management of the above-mentioned barriers would impact effective KT unfavorably. Besides, putting forth some striking solutions needed to fix the obstructions that hamper the adequate management of the KT exercises is another aim of the study. For data collection purposes, the study picks out higher education institutions (public) of the Quetta district. The reckoned sample size is 317 subjects. The research type that has been used is cross-sectional research and, in this context, the cross-sectional explanatory sequential design has been used. Concerning the findings of the paper, the results of PLS-SEM show positive and significant relationships of social interaction and training with knowledge transfer, while ICT shows an insignificant positive relationship with the knowledge transfer. The most influencing factor for the knowledge transfer is social interaction as suggested by social interaction theory. -

This study examines the relationship between board characteristics and capital structure. Data was collected from the annual reports of listed companies in the Stock Exchange of Thailand, from 2015 to 2017, which totaled 1,264 firm-year observations. The study uses multiple regression analysis to analyses the data by using independent variables, including board size, outside directors, managerial ownership, CEO duality, frequency of board meetings, board experience, and gender to measure board characteristics and the total debt ratio for capital structure. Research findings show that the more independent the directors are, the lower the cost of debt financing is, as they control the management team more strictly about debt financing than directors with less independence do. Additionally, the results reveal that the higher the percentage of managerial ownership, the higher the level of leverage and debt financing, whereas board size and board meetings have a negative relationship to capital structure. Further research showed that firm size, growth opportunities and corporate governance rating all had a positive significant impact on capital structure. The findings of this study suggest that the presence of proper corporate governance leads to better funding mechanisms as it ensures that the company is in a better position to obtain external funding. -

The study investigates the key factors that affect the adoption of the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) by companies listed on Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HOSE) in Vietnam. The factors that are studied in this research include total debt-to-equity ratio, firm size, return-on-equity ratio, audit quality, foreign investment, and financial institution category. The authors have utilized quantitative and qualitative analyses in combination with a logistics regression model and other available analytical tools for conducting the research. All statistics processed in the paper were based on 379 audited financial statements issued in 2018. The results reveal that factors like firm size, return on equity (ROE), audit quality, foreign investment, and financial institution category positively affect the IFRS adoption of HOSE-listed companies, while total debt-to-equity ratio negatively impacts the adoption. The findings suggest Vietnamese law and policy-makers, when promoting the adoption of IFRS by listed companies, should focus more on five variables with positive influence and they can disregard the total debt-to-equity ratio that is insignificant as a factor affecting the adoption of IFRS. This implication could be applied for other firms in Vietnam and for enterprises in other countries, which are in the same stage of IFRS application. -

The paper examines the impact of corporate governance (CG), on dividend policy (DP) of enterprises in Vietnam. The paper studies the impact of CG on DP of businesses listed on Vietnam's stock exchange in the period 2008-2018 with 2,937 observations. The data of these companies is collected from the financial statements of businesses and Vietstock data sets, as well as aggregated from the data published on some reputable securities websites. The study used GLS regression method for data collected at listed companies in Vietnam in the period of 2008-2018. The research results have found that CG, the chairman of the board of directors (BOD), and the managing director have a negative effect on the DP. Specifically, companies with strong BODs tend to pay low dividends. At the same time, research shows that factors such as profitability, financial leverage, firm size, and investment opportunities affect DP. This result underscores the importance of corporate governance (both internal and external) to the income distribution decision and provides policy implications for investors and company executives. The study finds solid evidence that alternative theory explains better the relationship between corporate governance and dividend policy. Accordingly, companies with weak corporate governance will pay more dividends. -

The relationship between corporate social responsibility (CSR) and earnings management is still a debate. Several previous studies showed that CSR is a determinant of earnings management. Meanwhile, others revealed the reverse. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the effect of CSR disclosure on earnings management and the effect of earnings management on CSR disclosure. This study was conducted with mining companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) in the 2016-2019 period. The research data was analyzed using multiple linear regression analysis. The data is obtained from financial statements, annual reports, and sustainability reports. The results reveal that there is a positive relationship between CSR disclosure and earnings management. This study also shows that the relationship model of CSR disclosure and earnings management is recursive. This finding implies that CSR disclosure is a tool used by management to cover up unethical actions from stakeholders. These results verify the agency theory and opportunist hypothesis regarding the relationship between CSR and earnings management. The novelty of this study lies in highlighting the recursive model of the relationship between CSR and earnings management. -

Indonesian oil palm plantation industry has chance to increase a sustainable competitive advantage. The creation of a sustainable competitive advantage is determined by the ability of the palm oil industry to utilize limited resources and capabilities. The purpose of this study was to analyze the determinants of the creation of sustainable competitive advantage (SCA) in the palm oil industry in Riau, Indonesia. The model framework uses organizational-level SCA dimensions. Four dimensions are used to measure SCA in the palm oil industry in Riau, namely value, scarce resource, inability to replicate, irreplaceable. Questionnaires were distributed to oil palm industry players in Riau with 81 respondents. The analysis technique uses Structural Equation Model with Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS). The results showed that the SCA in the palm oil industry in Riau was at a moderate level. Although the competitive advantage of being sustainable in the palm oil industry in Riau is in the medium category, test results on SCA dimensions found that each latent variable forms a significant SCA framework with a reflective constructive relationship model. The three dominant and recommended dimensions that shape the construction of SCA in the palm oil industry are value, scarce resource, and irreplaceable. -

The aim of the present study is to analyze the financial performance of converted commercial bank from non-banking financial institution through a case study of Bangladesh Commerce Bank Limited as sample organization. It is observed that the bank is able to achieve a stable growth rate in total deposits, total loans and advances, and net income after tax during the period of 2015-2019. Researchers also calculated some ratio analysis and noticed that the financial position of Bangladesh Commerce Bank Limited was not so strong because bank's ROA, ROE, NIM and other ratios were below standard. Researchers used secondary data that were examined by using descriptive statistical tools and panel data regression model. Result shows that Bangladesh Commerce Bank has satisfactory operating efficiency, assets management efficiency, and gives loans to customers. In addition, the present study has tested some hypotheses regarding net income after tax, ROA and ROE with total assets, total loans, total deposits and interest income. These hypotheses have been accepted, which means there is no significant influence of the independent variable on the dependent variable. The study suggests that Bangladesh Commerce Bank Limited had the opportunities to make their financial position stronger by utilizing their good financial position and management efficiencies. -

This research aims to test the effect of corporate governance factors on corporate social responsibility (CSR) disclosure and its impact on a company's financial performance. The factors of corporate governance referred to in this research are foreign ownership, state ownership, number of board of commissioners, the proportion of independent commissioners, and educational background of commissioners' board. Based on the purposive sampling method, 194 companies were selected with a total of 582 observations. The data analysis used in this study was the Structural Equation Model (SEM) approach by using the alternative Partial Least Square (PLS) method. The results of this research indicated that state ownership, number of board of commissioners, and the proportion of independent commissioners had a significant positive effect on CSR disclosure. While the foreign ownership and the educational background of the commissioners' board have had an insignificant effect on CSR disclosure. Then, CSR disclosure had a significant positive effect on the companies' financial performance. The findings of this study suggest that the positive effect of the CSR disclosure on performance is because the disclosure is able to improve the company's reputation; the more social activities are carried out will improve the customers' loyalty as well as the support from other stakeholders which in turns will improve the company's performance. -

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of COVID-19 on corporate governance attributes and firm performance association. This research used a sample of 188 non-financial firms from the Malaysian market for the years 2019-2020. We found that the COVID-19 has affected all firm characteristics including firm performance, governance structure, dividend, liquidity, and leverage level, yet, the difference between prior and post COVID-19 pandemic is not significant. Also, the investigation revealed that board size exerts a significant positive impact on firm performance. After splitting the sample based on year, however, we found that board size does not matter in the uncertain time of the current crisis, while board diversity appeared to be significantly enhancing firm performance in the crisis time compared to the prior year where it has an inverse association with firm performance in both indicators. Board meetings and audit committee meetings seemed to have a significant negative influence on firm performance pre and post-COVID-19. This study contributes to the limited literature by providing the first empirical evidence on the impact of Coronavirus on the firm performance and corporate governance association. -

This study aims to examine the effect of environmental performance and good corporate governance (GCG) on the firm values mediated by corporate social responsibility (CSR). The sample in this study was obtained using a purposive sampling method and collected from 205 companies. The analytical method used is moderating regression analysis. The results of this study indicate, first, that corporate social responsibility affects the value of the company. The results of this study indicate that the better corporate governance will increase the value of the firm and vice versa. Second, corporate social responsibility has a direct effect on the firm value, but the effect is still smaller when compared with the internal mechanisms of good corporate governance. This study also found that corporate social responsibility cannot mediate the effect of good corporate governance on firm value. Third, the company's environmental performance influences the company's value. Finally, the effect of environmental performance on company value will be better if mediated by corporate social responsibility. This result shows that environmental performance is a proof that the company's environmental and social concern, which is manifested in corporate social responsibility, will be responded positively by the market so that it will increase share prices (firm value). -

The purpose of this paper is to examine the effect of tax planning on firm value of the non-financial firms listed in Vietnam, moderated by the state ownership. In this paper, effective tax rate is used to measure the tax planning; the state ownership is measured by the percentage of state equity holdings, and the firm value is measured by Tobin's Q. The data research is collected from audited financial statements and other statistical documents of 513 firms in the period of 2015-2019, provided by The FiinGroup (Vietnam). According to that, this paper uses quantitative research methods for the panel data. Regression analysis with GLS shows that the tax planning has a negative effect on firm value. In more detail, the association is not a variable in its direction when state ownership takes the role of a moderator. That means, in the perspective of principal-principal conflict, government should improve institutional environment to prevent firms form breaking the rules, especially accounting standards and principles. Assets allocation in tangible assets or making use of large size advantage should be taken into account. In the long run, firms should concentrate on the deployment of resources and the experience of knowledgeable practitioners to produce effective results.

This study identifies the determinants of potential failure of Islamic Peer-to-Peer (P2P) lending in Indonesia, and the mediating effect of Islamic ethics on reducing the potential for failure of Islamic P2P lending. This study uses primary data retrieved through questionnaires from the perspective of 152 stakeholders in Islamic P2P lending. Using a structural equation model (SEM), the study found that indebtedness, financing size, and governance have positive and significant relationships with the potential failure of Islamic P2P lending. This study provides evidence that the customer's internal conditions and the governance structure applied can increase the potential failure of Islamic P2P lending. Further, Islamic ethics is evidently able to partially reduce the potential failure of Islamic P2P lending by lessening risk management exposure, but it fails to address failure through Ponzi scheme exposure. As an implication, this study suggest that Islamic P2P lending must implement Islamic ethics more comprehensively by optimizing the advisory and supervisory role of the shariah board within their overall boards of directors also in their operational activities. Finally, it also adds to the existing knowledge on financial technology literature, particularly on the determinants of potential failure of financial technology from the perspective of stakeholders. -

The contribution made by the tourism sector is strategic enough to provide job opportunities and increase the state's foreign exchange which will be followed by development in the information and technology sectors. The population of this study includes all domestic tourists who visit the Batu City Angkut Museum over 17 years of age and who have obtained information via eWOM from other tourists. Based on the measurement, a minimum of 160 respondents must be selected as the research sample. Non-probability sampling techniques are used to select samples. Social media had been used by companies to provide information, services, and products related to tourism, and it was utilized by tourists to share information about their traveling experiences. Nowadays, tourists have become more selective and critical in selecting their destinations as they have become good observant in finding adequate information about certain destinations before deciding to visit the place. This reaction can be influenced by positive eWOM communication, positive image, and trust given to certain tourist destinations. Therefore, improving the number of visits requires the management of certain tourism service companies to apply proper marketing strategy and provide various advantages and best service quality to attract more visitors and give satisfaction to visitors. -

We investigate the impact of marital status on the levels of satisfaction of online shoppers in the beauty and cosmetics industry in Vietnam. We find a significant difference in satisfaction between married and divorced/separated online shoppers. More specifically, the latter reveals higher level of satisfaction than the former. Extended analyses further show that this finding is only observed for female online shoppers whilst it is insignificant for their male counterparts. Moreover, we find significant differences in determinants of customer satisfaction between three different groups of online shoppers: single, married, and divorced/separated. While married individuals' satisfaction is affected by all factors (Online shopping experience; Seller Services; External Incentives; Security/Privacy), that of their divorced/separated peers are influenced by only seller services and external incentives. Also, single participants are satisfied with their online shopping driven by their online shopping experience and external incentives. Our findings contribute to the stream of customer satisfaction literature, and to the studies in beauty and cosmetics sector as well as online shopping trends in Vietnam. They contain implications for existing online businesses and new or potential market entrants as to which customer demographic factors have significant influences in terms of customer psychology, behaviour and their satisfaction. -
This research aims to determine the effect of customers' threat emotion and price on the decision to purchase a certain smartphone product. This study uses a quantitative method with a type of descriptive and causal research. It employs non-probability sampling with purposive sampling, with 385 respondents to answer the questionnaires. Data analysis techniques used descriptive analysis and multiple linear regression analysis. Based on the results of descriptive analysis of emotion, price and purchasing decisions are in sync with each other. The results of multiple linear regression analysis techniques indicate the threat emotion and brand trust are influential against the positive decision to purchase smartphone products. The magnitude of the influence of emotions and price have simultaneous effect on purchasing decisions and other decision variables, which are not included in this study, also play minor role in determining purchase intention, such as product quality, brand image and others. Partially, threat emotion and brand trust have a positive effect toward purchasing decisions. The magnitude of the highest influence was the one of price, then followed by emotional threats. The findings of this study suggest that psychological and behavioral effects also play important roles in determining customers' purchase decision.

Nowadays, quality affects product or service performance and customer loyalty in the competitive business' environment. This is truly important when it comes to how the customer interprets the service's satisfaction and the judgment of the purchase process as a whole, in view of the fact that service quality is an abstract and elusive construction due to the three characteristics of services: intangibility, heterogeneity, and inseparability of output and consumption. The main purpose of this paper is to determine the hotel service quality using the Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP) and SERVQUAL method. In this study, a five-star hotel's real case is considered in evaluating the service quality criteria. The results revealed that Tangibles and Assurance are the most critical service quality criteria in the hotel industry. Accurate records, service consistency, Necessary arrangements for disabled people, Service flexibility to guests' demands, and Providing the services at the time it promises are the most influencing sub-criteria of service quality. These findings indicate that hotels should concentrate on sequentially and organized priority factors to enhance service quality. This method of service quality assessment may also aid in distinguishing between hotels. Finally, as a future direction, more additional parameters can be used as a potential guide in our proposed model for the dynamic decision-making approach.

The paper aims to examine the relationship between various types of motivation and satisfaction as well as turnover intentions of public university lecturers. Intrinsic motivation is found to affect both satisfaction and turnover, while for extrinsic motivation, only one type has a significant effect on satisfaction. The web-based questionnaire with convenience sampling was chosen to approach target respondents. Data was collected by sending a link of the questionnaire to the lecturers' email. There were 700 questionnaires collected. Of which 681 valid responses, after screening out unusual questionnaires. In order to fulfill these aims, the authors employed structural equation modeling with maximum likelihood method supported by AMOS software with 681 valid samples. The evidence confirms the high correlation between intrinsic motivation and satisfaction for university lecturers which has been shown in previous studies. With regard to extrinsic motivation, extrinsic regulation (material) is found to have a positive influence on satisfaction, meaning financial rewards and job security will lead to his contentment while introjected regulation is a source of dissatisfaction. The results also demonstrate that intrinsic motivation is negatively correlated with turnover intentions. A person who is interested in the job itself is less likely to leave his or her job due to a keen passion for it. -

This study aims to examine the role of resilience in academic engagement and also to evaluate the theoretical model of the relationships between resilience and engagement. A survey of faculty members in 20 study programs from 12 universities in Jakarta was conducted, Where 247 questionnaires were returned from the 495 distributed. Furthermore, 240 valid data were available for evaluation in order to test the model, and a confirmatory Structural Equation Modelling was conducted, using AMOS 20. Criteria of goodness-fit demonstrated the relatively adequate model, and the coefficient of structural path describes the potential of the links. Three out of four paths available significantly showed the role of developmental persistency and positive emotions on work engagement. The participants of the study include only constituted academics of private universities in Indonesia. Thus there is a need for better care in interpreting the level of resilience and engagement, as engagement may vary when used in a different context. The study suggests interventions for practitioners, not only for academia in the higher education context but also for other professionals in managing engagement at the individual or team level. Therefore, combining resilience and engagement programs may contribute to an enhancement in the productivity of employees. -
Hotels drive the growth and development of tourism. Despite their important role, many hotels are small and medium-sized firms (SME) that are struggling to survive against fierce competition. Experts agree that strategic planning is vital for SME survival, but it is not wholly applicable for SME managers. Meanwhile, Mintzberg's concept of crafting strategy offers a more productive insight into SME strategic planning, but its abstract nature has historically discouraged empirical research on its practical benefits. This study will be the first to empirically explore the operationalization of Mintzberg's crafting strategy characteristics, and analyze its influence on organizational learning using structural equation model. Using a sample of 50 hotels in Bali, Indonesia, this study reveals that managing pattern and stability, detecting discontinuity, and knowing the business have a positive but weak effect, whereas reconciling change and continuity proves to have a positive and significantly strong effect on organizational learning. This study has bridged the gap between the abstract concepts of crafting strategy, which is a potentially better approach for SMEs, with daily operational practices. This study also proves that Mintzberg's approach can be used to predict organizational learning. This relationship is crucial since previous studies concluded that organizational learning improves company performance.

This study examines the role of perceived enjoyment, self-efficacy, and subjective norms as determinants of behavioral intention to use the OVO application. This study's target population is the users of the OVO application who have used it as an electronic transaction. This study's population was the OVO application users as an electronic transaction tool in Jember Regency. Samples were randomly selected at the time of the survey with specific criteria. The survey location is determined at the Plaza because it is a shopping center that mostly has payments at OVO partner merchants. The model empirically tested using data gathered from 150 respondents of OVO users. The research model was tested by using the structural equation modeling (SEM) approach. The results showed that all constructs in the original TAM model were statistically significant. Subjective norm has a positive effect on perceived usefulness, and perceived enjoyment positively affects perceived ease of use of OVO applications. On the other hand, applications' self-efficacy does not affect the perceived ease of using OVO applications for electronic transactions. This condition shows that subjective norms are dominant external individual perspectives compared to self-efficacy, which are personal internal characteristics in determining the behavioral intention of using OVO applications in electronic transactions. -

This research aims to discuss the relationship between the courage, anticipation, and satisfaction comprehensively. This study will be complemented by gratitude as a variable that moderates the relationship between courage and anticipation, as well as the relationship between the courage and satisfaction. The large area as survey location is the reason for sampling conducted in 2 stages: (1) taking 15 districts through judgement sampling, (2) allocated sub-districts sample through proportional random sampling. The sample used in this study were 155 sub-districts in East Java. Respondents in each sub-district consisted of 1 farmer and 1 field extension officer to get a total of 310 respondents. The analysis method used to test the hypothesis was Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The findings of this research are: (1) The courage of field extension officers' have a positive but non-significant direct effect on farmers' anticipation, however, the effect significantly strengthen with religiosity as moderation; (2) The courage of field extension officers' and farmers' anticipation have a significant and positive effect on satisfaction. This study will be complemented by gratitude as a variable that moderates the relationship between the courage and anticipation, as well as the relationship between courage and satisfaction. -
This study aims to analyze the influence of farmer characteristics, Ihsan attitude, economic conditions, and socio-cultural environmental support, and the number of family members on farmer behavior in meeting food needs in realizing household food security, with the role of the government as a moderator. This study is about the relationship between farmer behavior and their household food security. This research uses a quantitative research method involving 337 farmers from three villages located in three different sub-districts, namely Alang-alang village, Tragah sub-district, Mrecah village, Tanah Merah sub-district, and finally Gangsean village, Sepulu sub-district. The quantitative analysis approach consists of formulating problems, compiling models, obtaining data, finding solutions, testing solutions, analyzing results, and interpreting results. From the 7 hypotheses that were built, it was identified that there was 1 hypothesis that was not significant, namely the influence of the support of the socio-cultural environment on farmer behavior to meet the food needs of farmers' households. The attitude that is identified is still very rarely used in the context of agricultural human resources and at the same time is an inherent character of Madurese farmers which is an interesting part for researchers to study more deeply and become new or authentic in this research.

The purpose of the research is to evaluate how education influences the income of household heads, who are young adult in rural Vietnam. In order to examine the impact of education on the households where their heads are young adults, in this paper, the authors employ two research methods. First, ordinary least squares (OLS) regression is used to study the impact of education on different groups of income; second, quantile regression is applied to find out how education influences the income of households. The dataset includes a survey of 800 young households aged between18 and 35 who are the head of agricultural farms in rural areas. The findings indicate that education has a positive impact on income of young households. Furthermore, the results prove that the longer schooling years, the higher income youth can attain. The results showed that, at the survey time (Sep 2019), the average monthly income of rural young adults who are joining the production process shows a big gap between low and high incomes. Moreover, the study has revealed that other factors positively affect the incomes, namely, joining job-related associations, land resource, hired labour, hi-tech application as well as extension of producing unit. -

The number of tax consultants in Central Java registered at the Indonesian Tax Consultant Association is still limited, likewise, the number of accountants with licensing practices is still small, and making the career opportunities of tax consultants and auditors remain open. This study aims to provide a perspective for career interests in taxation and auditing for accounting students. This study used a quantitative approach by distributing questionnaires to the respondents. The research population involved accounting students who had taken audit and tax courses. The sampling method employed purposive sampling. 270 accounting students at state and private universities in Semarang-Indonesia were chosen. The analysis technique used Warp Partial Least Square (PLS). The results revealed that labor market motivation and considerations positively affected career interests in the taxation and audit fields. Self-efficacy also had a positive effect on career interests in the audit field but not on tax career interests. Besides, gender influenced career interests in auditing. In contrast to the expectation, this study found that gender did not influence career interests in tax. In conclusion, this study can provide information in explaining career interests in the taxation and audit fields, although the ability to explain is still limited. -
This study investigates how dramatic increase of university and college graduates affects labor market outcomes. Using a series of seven repeated cross sections of the Vietnam Household Living Standards Surveys, this paper analyzed the changes in the rate of returns to higher education attainment along with the increased supply of university and college graduates due to the higher education expansion throughout the 2002-2014 period. The study utilized a ratio of number of university and college students to the number of upper-secondary pupils within each province as an instrumental variable to calculate the effects of higher education expansion on the labor wage. The study found that, with the basic equations, the coefficients for higher education attainment are statistically significant and have positive values for the whole period. Our instrumental variables were found to be valid. For instrumental variable estimation, the return to higher education in IV earning equations was quite high. The findings of this study suggested that the expansion of the higher education system in Vietnam during 2002-2014 had positive effects on wages for those who increased their education attainment due to the reforms and there was a declining trend of the returns to higher education toward the end of the period.
