Objectives : The objective of this study is to identify the characteristics of outpatients and the frequently diagnosed diseases in dermatology of Korean medicine through periodic research and comparison with previous studies. Methods : We analyzed medical records of new outpatients who visited department of dermatology at Kyung Hee university Korean medicine hospital between January 1, 2018 and December 31, 2022. We analyzed the patient demographic characteristics and the frequency of diagnosed diseases. Then we compared these results with previous studies in 2000, 2007 and 2016. Results : 1. Average number of patients and proportion of male patients have increased from 1996 to 2022. 2. From 1996 to 2022, there was a decrease in the proportion of patients aged 0-39 and an increase in the proportion of patients aged over 40. 3. The distribution proportions of eczema, atopic dermatitis, and rosacea during 2018-2022 have increased compared to those during 2011-2015. 4. The distribution of diseases according to age appears to vary based on the epidemiological characteristics of the diseases. 5. The distribution of diseases according to gender also appears to vary based on the epidemiological characteristics of the diseases, as well as cosmetic issues related to the affected areas. Conclusions : Considering the sustained trend of a high proportion of non-infectious inflammatory diseases since 1996, it is important to enhance treatment capacity through continuous research.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to analyze the acupuncture and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation(TENS) for tinnitus to identify the trend, effectiveness and mechanism. Methods : Research studies related to objectives were gathered through Pubmed, RISS, KISS, KCI, OASIS with keywords such as 'Tinnitus', 'Autonomic', 'ANS', 'HRV', 'acupuncture', 'transcutaneous' and analyzed. Results : 4 studies were included. Acupuncture was used in 1 study and TENS was used in 3 studies. Tinnitus handicap inventory(THI), fMRI and 'heart rate and blood pressure' were used in 1 study each and heart rate variability(HRV) was used in 3 studies as evaluation tools. Each treatment showed a significant effect. Conclusions : Our findings indicate that acupuncture and TENS could be a potential therapy for tinnitus, however additional well designed RCT are required to establish high level of evidence.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to analyze the trends of Korean medicine treatment on postherpetic neuralgia. Methods : Domestic databases(OASIS, KISS, RISS, KISTI, NDSL, KMbase) were used to search case studies related to Korean medical treatment of postherpetic neuralgia. Total 9 studies were selected. Results : A total 15 prescriptions were used 22 times in 14 cases. Among them, Sipjeondaebo-tang(十全大補湯) was the most frequently prescribed. Total 91 herbs were used and they were classified as tonifying and replenishing medicine(補益藥), exterior-releasing medicine(解表藥) and blood-activating and stasis-dispelling medicine(活血祛瘀藥) in the order of mostly used. In 8 studies, in addition to herbal medicine treatment, other Korean medicine treatments such as acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, moxibusiton, cupping therapy and external agents were performed at the same time. Most frequently used acupoints were 足竅陰(GB44) and 商陽(LI1). Conclusions : This is the first study to analyze the trends of Korean medicine treatment for postherpetic neuralgia. Although there are some limitations, this study is thought to be helpful in the domestic treatment of postherpetic neuralgia in the future.

Objectives : In order to investigate the current status of recent clinical evidence related to complementary and alternative medicine(CAM) treatment for burns and to inform research and treatment strategies for future, we publish a scoping review(ScR) of randomized controlled trials(RCTs). Methods : The research question of the ScR was "Are there any RCTs of CAM treatment for burn?". RCTs published from 2000 to 2022 were identified in 7 databases(PubMed, Cochrane, CNKI, OASIS, RISS, KCI, KMbase) in March 2023. Data were tabulated and analyzed descriptively with respect to the research questions. Results : 41 RCTs were included. 21(51.2%) were conducted in China, 13(31.7%) in Iran. The main treatment criteria were herbal medicine in 28 cases, acupuncture in 9 cases, chuna therapy in 4 cases, and psychotherapy in 3 cases. Among the herbal medicine, there were 19 topical medications, 5 injections(intravenous pharmacopuncture), 4 aerosol drugs(aromatherapy), and 1 oral drug. Among the acupuncture, there were 4 plum blossom needles(seven-star needles), 2 wrist-ankle acupunctures, 2 press needles, and 1 electroacupuncture. CAM treatments were effective in treating burns. It reduced pain and pruritus at the burn site, helped recovery and management of the donor site, reduced anxiety and pain during dressing change, improved hematological problems and vital signs, and finally lowered the mortality rate. CAM treatments also lowered health care costs. Conclusions : CAM treatments for burns is prospective, and that it deserves to make high-quality studies including additional large-scale RCTs.

Objectives : This study aims to evaluate the add-on effect of herbal bath combined with acitretin in patients with psoriasis. Methods : We searched randomized controlled trials(RCTs) reporting the effect of herbal bath and acitretin combined treatment for psoriasis in 10 electronic databases from their inception to January 2023. Study collection, data extraction, and risk of bias assessment were performed by two independent researchers. Data synthesis and risk of bias evaluation was conducted using Revman 5.4. Results : Ten RCTs with 1,008 subjects were included. Herbal bath and acitretin combined treatment group showed higher average total effective rate than acitretin alone group(RR 1.39; 95% CI: 1.15-1.68, P=0.0006, I² =0%). Herbal bath and additional treatments such as phototherapy(NB-UVB) and oral herbal medicine, combined with acitretin group also showed higher average total effective rate than acitretin alone group(RR 1.81; 95% CI: 1.47-2.22, P<0.00001, I² =43%). Herbal bath and phototherapy(NB-UVB) combined with acitretin group also showed higher average total effective rate than acitretin alone group(RR 1.51; 95% CI: 1.18-1.93, P=0.0009, I² =0%). The overall risk of bias of the included studies was unclear or of high risks. Conclusions : This review showed that the add-on of herbal bath combined with acitretin treatment could be more effective than acitretin alone treatment in patients with psoriasis. However, because of few included studies, heterogeneity between studies, and insufficient quality of included studies, further well-designed RCTs are needed to confirm the add-on effect of herbal bath on psoriasis.

Objectives : The purpose of this review is to investigate the effect of herbal medicine treatment on cytokines and symptom improvement in patients with psoriasis. Methods : We searched four web databases for studies on psoriasis treated with herbal medicines published from 2000 to April 2023. After searching for studies, we analyzed selected studies based on inclusion criteria. Results : Seven randomized controlled trials have been found and analyzed. All of research which selected have reported that herbal medicine treatment for psoriasis patients have an effect on cytokines and was effective in improving symptoms, and all were statistically significant. Conclusions : According to the results, herbal medicine treatment can be an effective treatment for improving symptoms and cytokines in patients with psoriasis. This study will be helpful for future research in herbal medicine.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report the cases of Korean medical treatment for the patulous eustachian tube patients with dyspepsia. Methods : Two patients with dyspepsia diagnosed with patulous eustachian tube has treated with Korean medical interventions(acupuncture, pharmacoacupuncture, and moxibustion). The improvement of symptoms was evaluated by visual analogue scale(VAS). Results : The visual analogue scale has decreased from 10 to 1 and from 10 to 0, respectively. Conclusions : Korean medical treatment had shown a positive clinical effect in the treatment of the patulous eustachian tube with dyspepsia in this case reports.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report a case of Ramsay-Hunt Syndrome showing continual improvement after 3 months of onset. Methods : This study was conducted with Ramsay-Hunt Syndrome patient who hospitalized in Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology & Dermatology Clinic of Korean medical hospital. The patient was treated with Korean medical treatment including Ligigeopoong-san Gagam, acupuncture, pharmacopuncture (Hwangryunhaedok-tang) and the other physics therapy. After treatment, we evaluated subjective symptoms, Yanagihara scale and H-B Grade. Results : As a result, the patient continued to improve even after 3 months after the onset, and showed complete recovery and significant improvement in subjective symptoms after treatment. Conclusions : It is considered that Korean medical treatment can be applied to the treatment of Ramsay-Hunt Syndrome.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to present the effect of subcision, microneedle therapy system and herbal peeling therapy which is treatment of Korean medicine to atrophic acne scar patients. Methods : We administered subcision, microneedle therapy system and herbal peeling therapy to atrophic acne scar patients and tested the results by Qualitative Global Acne Scarring Grading System and Korean Acne Grading System as well. Results : After the treatment, all of the patients showed improvements in Qualitative Global Acne Scarring Grading System and Korean Acne Grading System as well. Qualitative Global Acne Scarring Grading System of patients changed from grade 2.71±0.71 to grade 1.14±0.86 along with the change of Korean Acne Grading System from grade 1.57±0.57 to grade 1.00±0.00. Conclusions : Subcision, microneedle therapy system and herbal peeling therapy may be effective in the treatment of moderate to severe acne scars, and could be applied in clinical practice.
