Objectives : This study was to investigate the effectiveness of thread-embedding therapy for the treatment of acute phase of Bell's palsy. Methods : Thread-embedding therapy was performed once a week on 29 patients within 1 weeks after the onset. We investigated the general characters, Yanagihara's score, House-Brackmann scale and FDI were used to evaluate the effectiveness of thread-embedding therapy. Results : Facial muscle recovery began at 13.37th day, that was about 0.36 day earlier than the previous patients who were treated without thread-embedding therapy in 2017 at the same hospital, but there was no statistical significance. In the change of each scale before and after treatment, Yanagihara's score, House-Brackmann scale, physical function and social function of FDI were changed significantly. Compared with the patients treated without thread-embedding therapy in 2017, Yanagihara's score was a little higher and House-Brackmann scale was a little lower. Conclusions : These findings suggested that thread-embedding therapy on acute phase of Bell's palsy was a little more effective than the conventional therapy without thread-embedding therapy.

Objectives : Strabismus is a disease that can be observed and treated directly from the outside. Therefore, it is very important in Korean medicine ophthalmology in accessibility to treatment. This study is designed to investigate the trends of strabismus-related studies published in Journal of Korean medicine. Methods : 5 Internet databases were selected to search for the study subject. The following 9 keywords were used; Strabismus, Heterophoria, Binocular vision, Visual acuity, Diplopia, Paralytic, Cover test, Oculomotor nerve paralysis, Abducens nerve paralysis. Through this process, a total of 45 studies were found and analyzed into 5 categories ; publication year, publication journal, number of author, type of article, analyzation of case report. Results : There were 2 review articles, 1 original article and 42 case reports. 5 studies(11.1%) were published in 2004 year. Journal of Korean Oriental Medical Ophthalmology & Otolaryngology & Dermatology were the most common with 40%. The authors were often 2 and 3 (each 22.2%). In the case report study, the treatment period was most often 1-30 days (35.7%). Conclusions : 42 studies were on paralytic strabismus and 1 study was on paralytic and non-paralytic strabismus. These results represent that the studies are concentrated in case reports about paralytic strabismus, but this seems to be an area to be improved in future research.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to investigate the using trends of UAS7 over the last 5 years to analyze patients using UAS7 in a single Korean medicine hospital and to understand and suggest the actual status of application in clinical research. Methods : PubMed, RISS and OASIS were used to search clinical research papers related to chronic urticaria in the last 5 years. The adherence of UAS7 was assessed based on medical records in a single Korean medical hospital for 4 weeks. Results : Total 536 articles were selected, and 401(74.8%) articles used the assessment tool. UAS7 has been most commonly used assessment tool to evaluate the severity of chronic urticaria and DLQI has been most commonly used to evaluate the quality of life. The usage rate of UAS7 increased from 50% in 2016 to 85% in 2020. There were a total of 10 articles in traditional medicine research, of which 9 assessment tools were used and 4 articles used UAS7. To analyze adherence of UAS7, a total of 15 patients were selected. 6 patients (40%) did not record any value, and only 2 patients(13%) showed more than 80% adherence. Conclusions : UAS7 is most commonly used assessment tool in clinical research currently. However, since patient record adherence tends to be poor, it is needed to find ways increasing the UAS7 record adherence.

Objectives : The aim of this article is to compare the effect of the korean medicine alone with korean-western combination treatment to herpes zoster. Methods : Domestic databases(OASIS, NDSL, RISS, KISS, KTKP, KMBASE, DBPIA, KoreaMed, National Assembly Library) were used to search case study papers related to herpes zoster and korean medicine treatment. We searched them using the term 'Herpes zoster' or 'Ramsey Hunt' combinated with 'Acupuntcure', 'Herbal medicine' or 'Korean medicine'. Results : A total of 36 studies were selected and analyzed. 25 studies treated with korean medicine and 11 studies treated with korean-western combination treatment which include any western medication. Of these 36 papers, there were a total of 24 cases in which a VAS test was undertaken. According to 36 published papers, no statistically significant difference in the periods of treatment with korean medicine alone from those of korean-western combination treatment was found. Also, no statistical difference in the VAS changes per period with korean medicine alone from those with korean-western combination treatment was found. Conclusions : According to the results, These findings suggest that korean medicine treatment can be effective for the herpes zoster the same as korean-western combination treatment.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report the effectiveness of Korean medical treatment on ptosis in myasthenia gravis. Methods : We treated the patient who had suffered from rt. ptosis and was diagnosed with myasthenia gravis with acupuncture, electropuncture, herbal acupuncture, cupping therapy, herbal medicines and western medicine such as corticosteroids and acetylcholinesterase inhibitors. The effectiveness of treatment was evaluated through Relative Interpalpebral Fissure(IPF) and photography. Results : After the treatments, relative Interpalpebral Fissure(IPF) was increased and improvement remained for three months after the treatment was finished. Conclusions : The result indicates that combination therapy of Korean medical treatment and western medicine had an effect on treatment of ptosis with myasthenia gravis.

Objectives : This study aims to report 3 cases of systemic atopic dermatitis improved by Korean medicine hospitalization care. Methods : Unlike outpatients, inpatients were supervised their lifestyle including dietary habits by physicians every morning and daily treated with acupuncture, herbal medicine including Bangpungtongseongsan-gagam, and Hwangryunhaedok-tang wet dressing therapy during all week. For dressing preparation, Hwangryunhaedok-tang was used to skin lesion except face. Mixed decoction of Lonicerae Flos and Forsythiae Fructus was used to facial lesion. Hwangryunhaedok-tang pharmacopuncture was injected to 2 patients. Western oral medicine and injection such as antihistamine or corticosteroids were prescribed by physician depending on each patient's condition. Symptoms were assessed with SCORAD index, IGA, and taking photos. Results : All patients showed the decrease in SCORAD index, IGA, skin lesion amelioration, and patient-subjective improvement. As time passes, dependence on western treatment also decreased and patients were able to endure pruritus without antihistamine injection during hospitalization. Conclusions : This study suggests that Korean medicine hospitalization care including acupuncture, herbal medicine, external therapy is effective for improving atopic dermatitis through decrease SCORAD index, IGA and ameliorating skin lesion.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report the effect of Hwangryeonagyo-tang and Mahwangbujasesin-tang(《Shanghanlun》 prescription) on whole-body nummular eczema. Methods : We treated a female patient in her early twenties who has whole-body nummular eczema with Korean medicine. She was treated from 2020.10.8 to 2020.12.11. In this period, she received admission treatments twice because of the recurrence of the symptoms after the first admission. During the treatment, the two herbal medicines were changed depending on the patient's condition. 'Hwangryeonagyo-tang' and 'Mahwangbujasesin-tang' were used as herbal medicine. In addition, herbal external preparations and acupuncture treatment were also performed. The evaluation was conducted by photo comparison, VAS, and DLQI. Blood tests were also conducted for safety assessments. Results : After two months of treatment, the patient's condition improved. The itching and heat sensation decreased, and scabs were placed on the lesion of the eczema, reducing the oozing. VAS of itching decreased from 8 to 0. DLQI was also improved, and the stability of the herbal medicines for liver and kidney was also confirmed through blood tests. Conclusions : Hwangryeonagyo-tang and Mahwangbujasesin-tang helped relieve the itching and heat of eczema in currency. Therefore, it is believed that the proper use of thoes herbal medicine can be expected to have a useful effect on nummular eczema.

Objectives : Steroids are often administered to atopic patients as hormone preparations, often causing side effects. This study is intended to present the possibility of Korean medicine treatment for patients who have had side effects due to steroids in atopic dermatitis by relieving side effects and improving symptoms through Korean medicine such as Hwangryounhaedok-tang and Siryeong-tang. Methods : 2 patients who had atopic dermatitis and rebound phenomenon after steroids treatment were treated by herbal medicine, herbal acupuncture, acupuncture and external preparations. Photographs of the lesions, SCORAD(Scoring atopic dermatitis) index were used to evaluate the changes in symptoms. Results : The SCORAD index of the first patient improved from 55.6 to 24.3 in 4 months. The SCORAD index of the second patient improved from 44.7 to 21.3 in 3 months. Conclusions : In the situation where symptoms of atopic dermatitis patients due to steroid rebound phenomenon have worsened, Korean medicine treatments played a important role in alleviating symptoms and improving SCORAD index scores.

2020년 7월부터 2020년 12월까지 일개 보건소 건강증진과에서 관할지역 거주 중증 장애인 중 뇌병변 장애와 지체 장애인을 대상으로 한의약 장애인 방문건강관리 표준프로그램을 진행하였고, 이 중 1명의 중증 지체 장애인이 구강 건조증을 앓고 있어, 한의 치료의 개입을 통한 통합적인 관리한 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 팔물탕(八物湯) 연조엑스제를 포함한 한의 치료는 YDQ에 의해 음허(陰虛)로 변증된 지체 장애인의 약물 유발성 구강 건조를 완화시키고 삶의 질을 호전시켰다. 2. 건강 보험에 포함된 한의 치료를 제공하여 한·양방 통합적 개입으로 양약으로 발생한 구강 건조 증상을 관리할 수 있었다. 3. 6개월간 투약된 팔물탕(八物湯) 연조엑스로 인한 이상 반응은 없었다. 4. 팬데믹 상황에서 한의약 방문 진료와 전화 진료가 혼합된 형태의 공공보건기관의 한의약 건강증진사업으로 장애인의 SHCN를 충족하고 장애인의 만성 질환 관리가 가능한 부분을 확인할 수 있었다. 5. 본 연구는 한방안이비인후피부과 증상 및 질환도 보건소 한의약 건강증진사업으로 포함할 수 있는 가능성을 확인하였으며, 유관 학회의 협력 및 지원과 연구가 필요하다고 생각된다.
