Purpose: This study is to verify the validity and reliability of classified items and criteria of the patient classification system(PCS) based on Park's definition of nursing intensity. Methods: An expert group of 8 persons verified the content validity of the tools. The 1817 inpatients at a tertiary hospital in Seoul, Korea were classified into 4 groups according to two tools for verifying concurrent validity and interraters' reliability. These verifications were performed from September to October, 2004. Results: Nursing domains of the tools have been divided into 12 items: hygiene, nutrition, elimination, exercise & activity, education & counseling, emotional support, communication & consciousness, treatment & examination, medication, measurement & observation, coordination of multidisciplinary team, admission & discharge & transfer management. Content validity was verified by the content validity index(above 0.75 in all 12 areas). Interraters' reliability was no significant difference in the results of the patient classification between the two raters(A group 93.75%. B group 88.24%). Concurrent validity was also verified by the agreement of two tools(73.7%). Conclusion: These results showed that the reliability and validity of the PCS based on the nursing intensity were verified. These will use an data for nursing productivity in the future.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop the tool that can be used for measuring and appraising the performance of Oncology Advanced Practice Nurse(APN). Method: On the basis of some articles about roles of oncology APN, the researcher made a temporary tool and verified both content validity and face validity. Also the reliability and construct validity were verified. Result: The reliability of this tool was measured by internal consistency. Cronbachs' ${\alpha}$ was .92. The method of verification of construct validity was used known group technique because of small numbers of Oncology APN. Conclusions: This performance appraisal tool of Oncology APN was verified by both the reliability and construct validity. In future, this tool will be able to be used for appraisal and verifying of nursing care of Oncology APN.

Purpose: This study was designed to analyze effects of learning organization on organizational commitment based on the MBTI personality type. Methods: The participants were 521 nurses working in the 4 general hospitals located in Seoul, Incheon and Kyunggido. The data were collected by self-reporting questionnaires. The data were analyzed using SAS program for descriptive and Stepwise multiple regression analysis. Results: The most frequent identified personality type was ISTJ and the least identified personal types was ENFJ. It is differ to recognize the learning organization according to personality type. In an aspect of organizational commitment, the statistically significant learning organizational factors according to nurse's MBTI personality type is revealed slightly different. In other word, Shared Vision is a statistically significant factor in ISTJ, ISTP, ISFP, ESTJ and ESFJ. System Thinking is a statistically significant factor in ISFJ. Team learning is a statistically significant factor in ESTP and ISTP. Mental Model is a statistically significant factor in ISTP. Conclusion: As our results, the effects of learning organization on organizational commitment were different according to the nurse's MBTI personality type. So these results will be used to develop the more effective strategies to enhance nurse's organizational commitment using construction of learning organization.

Purpose: This study is conducted to compare and analyse the health status and job satisfaction of nurses. Method: The subjects were a group of 90 nurses on fixed day nurse and the other group of 100nurses on night nurse. The collected data were analysed by using the SPSS WIN(10.0) program for descriptive statistics, t-test, ${\chi}^2-test$, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficient. Result: There was a significant difference according to years in services. In nurses on day shift, there was a inverse correlation between the health status and job satisfaction. And in nurses on day shift, job satisfaction levels differed significantly depending on personality, satisfaction to pay, and current health status. In nurses on night shift, nurses' job satisfaction levels differed significantly depending satisfaction to pay. Conclusion: It was confirmed that health of nurses is greatly affected by shift work. so, it is very important to maintain and promote their health status in nurses on night shift. We must find out the factors that greatly affect health of nurses, and continuously make an effort to improve the working environment.

Purpose: The purpose of this paper was to investigate opinions and experiences of hospital CEOs' and QI managers toward the National Hospital Evaluation Program which was implemented in 2004 and to recommend various strategies to improve the program. Methods: We conducted a mail survey with CEOs and QI　managers' of 78 hospitals with 500 beds or more that participated the 2004 National Hospital Evaluation Program. Results: About 70.8% of the participating CEOs and 64.0% of the QI　managers felt that the objectives of the evaluation program weren't fully achieved. Most respondents said that the current program required a partial or an overall change. Evaluation Criteria was the most often cited area for a change. Many respondents pointed out the importance of including clinical quality indicators in the evaluation tool. Conclusions: To upgrade hospital services with better quality, it is most important to first reach consensus on objectives and approaches of the evaluation program among various players. For a consistent planning and implementation, it is urgent to set up a more systematic organization and financing mechanism. Also, evaluation approaches, including evaluation criteria, methods, patient satisfaction assessment, as well as ways to summarize and publicize each hospital's performance should be improved.

Purpose: This study was aimed to develop and evaluate of a Problem-based Learning (PBL) in the course of Nursing Management and Ethics. Method: The design of the study was both methodological and one group only pre-post design. The sample included 61 senior students who are currently enrolled in Nursing management and Ethics course in college of nursing. Data regarding PBL evaluation were collected on the critical thinking and clinical reasoning using structured questionnaires during March to June, 2005. Data were analyzed using descriptives and paired t-test. Results: A total of three PBL packages was developed by the two faculty members and two teaching assistants who are majoring in nursing management. PBL packages that had been developed was applied to 61 senior students for three months. Critical thinking and clinical reasoning were measured twice pre and post the application of PBL packages. There were statistically significant differences in the critical thinking and clinical reasoning between the pre and post PBL application. Conclusion: PBL was considered to be effective in understanding the learning concepts in the Nursing Management and Ethics. Further research on the facilitative strategies and development model considering the characteristics of Nursing Management and Ethics course is needed.

Purpose: This study was carried out to find out the factors affecting on organizational commitment of hospital nurses. Method: The questionnaire-based research was done with 989 hospital nurses between January and March, 2004. Results: Variables such as job satisfaction, met expectations, compensation and welfare status of hospital, work involvement, positive affectivity had significant positive direct effect on organizational commitment in order of size, however, vertical conflict and job opportunity had negative direct effect in order of size. It was found that the following variables, listed in order of size, had significant total effects on organizational commitment: job satisfaction, met expectations, vertical conflict, compensation and welfare status of hospital, positive affectivity, work involvement, job opportunity, job autonomy, work definiteness, division justice, stability of employment, expectations before entering a hospital. Conclusion: It is recommended that programs for job satisfaction promotion, met expectations promotion, adequate compensation and welfare of hospital, work definiteness and work autonomy, solving conflict, positive affectivity promotion should be implemented to increase organizational commitment of hospital nurses.

Purpose: This study focuses on doctors' role expectation and patients satisfaction with the referral centers to get necessary basic Method: There were 495 subjects in this study. 245 of them were doctors working in the 397 clinics and hospitals which have made contracts with the referral center in Y General Hospital located in J city, and 250 were patients who had been treated in it. The data were collected from Sep. 25 to Oct. 21, in 2006. Data analysis was processed with SPSS/WIN 14.0 electronically. Results: Concluding cooperative treaties with other clinics and hospitals, doctors expect the following effects: First, the improvement of the treatment quality of patients. The patients satisfaction ranking order for using referral centers is as follows: kindness of the staff, treatment reservation, doctor's satisfying explanation. providing one-stop service, reduction of waiting time for treatment, evasion of repetitive tests. Conclusion: Referral centers should provide various services totally and actively which reflect the role expectation and satisfaction of doctors and patients altogether.

Purpose: This study was to investigate the relationships among nurse managers' participation in decision-making process relation to human resource management and the influencing factors. Method: The subjects were 198 nurse managers who were in general hospitals over 900 beds. The data were collected from January 13 to March 13, 2006. The SPSS PC+ 12.0 program was used to analyze the data. Result: The nurse managers had greater participation in the identification phase of decision making than selection phase. The mean scores of three phases were significantly different. The satisfaction of decision making was evaluated. The higher participation in decision making, the higher satisfaction of decision making. Nurse managers' decision style tended to be more participative than autocratic. Personal and organizational factors(age and decentralization) influenced positively on participation in decision making. Decentralization and span of control influenced positively on satisfaction in decision making. Conclusion: It is necessary to permit the participation in decision making for nurse managers.

Purpose: The objective of this research was to explore the levels of patient satisfaction and job satisfaction according to the level of nurse manpower, in order to provide effective management for nurses. Methods: The research was conducted from November 1 to December 30, 2006, with a survey of 310 nurses and 240 patients at eight tertiary hospitals in Seoul. Data were collected according to the level of nurse manpower from the first (a nurse vs. patient ratio of below 2.0) to the sixth (a ratio of over 4.0) rank. The survey tools were used Park-Yoon's job satisfaction (1992) and Wandelt and Ager (1974)'s patient satisfaction. The acquired data were analyzed with SPSS $PC^+$ 12.0 program using descriptive methods, ${\chi}^2$ test, ANCOVA, and Scheffe. Results: Overall job satisfaction of nurses showed 3.10 and patient satisfaction of patients showed 4.15. Analysis based on the level of nurse manpower showed that hospitals of first and second rank had higher scores than those of lower rank for nurse's job satisfaction and patient satisfaction. Conclusion: Hospitals with a higher level of nurse manpower showed higher score of nurse's job satisfaction and patient satisfaction.

Purpose: This study focused on analysing the performance and the perception of importance about workload of ambulatory nurses and nurse-aides for quality of nursing. Method: The subjects of this study were 126 ambulatory nurses and 117 nurse-aides in 6 secondary and 4 tertiary hospitals. The method of data collection was used the questionnaire. Result: As a result, First, nurses' activities that the performance score is above 3.0 are reception, guidance, reservation, confirm, checking medical record, operating report, explanation of disease, explanation of examination discuss with medical part, discuss with supporting part, solving patient problem environment management, and paper work. And the other side, those of nurse-aides are reception, guidance, reservation, preparation for clinic, assistant for clinic, preparation for examination, material transfer & receipt, confirm, checking medical record, and arrangement. Second, nurses-aids perceive above 3.0 performance score activities to be important for themselves. Finally, nurses perceive three categories of patient education/counselling, patient advocacy and quality improvement to be more important and higher performance when compared with nurse-aides. Conclusions: Ambulatory nurse's important nursing activities are therapeutic care, patient education/counselling, patient advocacy, communication, personal management, quality improvement.

Purpose: This study was to understand the major subjects of the recent nursing research in Nursing administration from keywords. Method: Keywords of journals were extracted and the frequency of the appearance of each key words was sorted by a descending order. Results: A total of 327 key words were used. The most frequently used key words were 'Job satisfaction', 'Organizational commitment', 'Leadership'. Out of them, organizational culture, nursing performance, nursing classification, patient satisfaction, and ethics appeared most frequently in descending order. Conclusion: From the above it can be noted that many nursing administration concepts were handled in the papers. But there were not enough papers on the characteristics of the Nursing administration. It is suggested that in depth research be made on 'Nursing error', 'Nursing informatics', 'Web based learning'.
