This study was intended to provide an improved method for testing textiles in high school. Four kinds of test subjects were selected and applied to the classes. Problems of the methods in the textbooks were corrected as follows: 1)Burning test: The number of specimen is reduced to 3 kinds of fibers(cotton, wool, and polyester) and recommends are given to make result by comparing with the burning characteris-tics of paper and hair. 2) Absorbency test: Test Method is changed to drop test. The result is recorded by measuring time required for the water drops absorbed to the specimen. 3) Wrinkle recovery test: A glass is provided instead of metal weight. The method of measuring angle which is made by the specimen is shown in figure. 4) Effects of Detergent: 0.2% of detergent solution is provided before class. The amount of oil and carbon black is specified. Students have generally agreed that the improved methods were better than those in the text-books after they made the above 4 recommendable experiments(p<.001)

The purpose of this research is to study the middle and high school student’s value on the family life of the contemporary society. The data for this study has been collected for 808 students of kangwon-do by Liert-scale Type questionnaire. The data were processed by SPSS-X Program. Frequency, Percentage, Mean, Standard Deviation, One-way ANOVA, Pearson’r coefficient, Step-wise multiple regression and Cronbach’coefficient have been calculated and analyzed. The Summary of this research is described as follows. Firstly, the overall average of value of family life was 3.25 points which reflected more or less modern tendency. Secondly, significant difference in the student’s value of family life affected by environmental variables were such as sex(P<.001) school years(P<.001) group(P<.01). Thirdly, the overall average of the student’s interest in the home economics was 3.74 points which reflected heigher tendency, Significant difference in the student’s interest in the home economics according to environmental variables were such as sex(P<.001) school years(P<.05), living standard(P<.01), residential area(P<.001). Fourthly, the student’s overall interest in the home economics and their view on the family life were correlated as follows; Spare time(r=-1.3), parents-children(r=.12) relatives and neighbors(r=0.8) show lower correlation and household work(r=.07) show higher correlation. Fifthly, the area which has closest correlation with the value on the family life was the value on family economics, whereas is has been shown that the field with least correlation was the area of supporting the spare time. Sixthly changes that affect the student’s value of the family life were such as sex (${\beta}$=.43), school years(${\beta}$=.18), group(${\beta}$=.15) and interest degrees(${\beta}$=-.12). These whole explanatory power was 21%.

The purpose of this study was to investigate eating behavior and the attitude about weight control of the High School Girls. The questionnaires were completed by 519 girls’ high school students.(lived in city ; 269, in mine region ; 250) The results were as follows: 1. The average stature of them was 159.01${\pm}$5.09cm, the average weight was 51.64${\pm}$6.76kg. 2. In the present body structure of them, the underweight structure was 26.2% the normal weight structure was 58.4% the overweight structure was 15.4%. The present body structure was very different from the recognition of their own body structure. 3. The average point of the eating behavior was 52.07 and that of city(53.62 point) was higher than mine region(50.01 point). 4. The rate of going without breakfast(P<0.05) the frequency of snack(p<0.001) the eating rate of stimulus foods(p<0.05) the interest healthy food life(p<0.05) in two regions showed the significant difference. 5. The point of eating behavior in two regions showed the positive correlation in the economic level, the contentment degree of the present body structure, the conscious healthy condition. But it showed the negative correlation in the rate of going without of breakfast. On observing the difference of the tow regions, it showed the positive correlation to mother’s education career on the negative relation to the experience of the weight control in the city. In the other hand it showed the negative correlation to the recognition on degree of the present body structure in the mine region. 6. The contentment degree of the present body structure showed the negative correlation to the experience of the weight control. Also it showed the negative correlation to the rate of going without breakfast in the city.

The purpose of this study were to identify the importance of father’s roles on children. A survey was carried out on 458(227 boys and 231 girls) 6th-graders at randomly chosen 4 elementary schools in Kwangju. Frequency, percentage, average, standard deviation and Pearson’s coefficient were checked and one-way ANOVA, Duncan’s multiple range test and multiple regression analysis were also carried out on the collected data. The results were as follows; 1. Evaluation of fathers’role performance depending on background variables ranged from 46.17 to 58.51 points(equivalent to 61.56∼78.01 points in the 100-point scale). Background variables that caused statistically significant difference were children’s sex, fathers’religion (whether they had one or not) fathers’education, monthly family income and decision-makers at home. The degrees of fathers’role performance were higher when the answerers were girls, when fathers had religions, when fathers educational level was higher, when the family income was higher, and when all family members participated in the decision-making. 2. Evaluation of children’s achievement motivation depending on background variables ranged from 77.17 to 84.34 points( equivalent to 68.90∼75.35 points in the 100-point scale). Background variables that caused statistically significant differences were children∼s sex and decision-makers at home. Children∼s achievement motivation were higher in the case of girls and when all family members participated in the decision-making. 3. When it comes to the children’s achievement motivation in relation to father’s role performance, 1)The overall aspect of fathers’ role performance caused significant differences in children’s achievement motivation. 2) The influence of fathers’role performance on children’s achievement motivation was highest in the investigation-faciliator role (${\beta}$=2.5) and then the economic role (${\beta}$=.14) and the valuetransmitter role (${\beta}$=.14). The explanative power of these variables was 22%.

The purpose of this study is to investigate and analyze mothers’ recognition and the current status about educational programs for who have their children. For this purpose, questionaire method was used. The respondents were 400 mothers with children in secondary schools. Statistical methods adopted for data analysis were Frequency, Percentage, Chi-square. The major findings are as follows: 1. The result of mothers’recognition on parent education is : Most of the mothers of students have difficulty in guiding their children. And mothers usually depend upon mass media as the way to collect information about the education of their children. They want to strengthen their relationship with school through this program. 2 the results from this study on mothers’ recognition on actual conditions of parental participation is : The main reason for mothers’participation is to obtain knowledge to support the education of their children, and to keep the close relationship with school. They had difficulty in attending meetings due to their houseworks and jobs. 3. The types and contents of the mothers’ education program: The contents of education consisted of understanding their children. The period of parent education in secondary school was practiced during the weekdays.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the contents of home economics teacher’s guidebooks of high school. Eight home economics guidebooks are analyed. The findings of this study are as follows: 1. All eight home Economics teacher’s guidebooks are composed of the former and detailed expositions. The former exposition has six items. Each guidebooks has similarities as well as differences. 2. Detailed expositions of all guidbooks are composed of long units and each long unit has a couple of middle units. 3. The housing contents in eight guidebooks are mostly similar. But there are some sugestions to improve the convenience and usability of the teacher’s guidebook.

The purpose of the study were to :(1)determine important home management concepts in the secondary home economics education curriculum, (2) identify the educational needs related to home management perceived by home economics teachers, and the factors affecting it. (3) use the findings to make recommendations for developing home economics curriculum and teaching home economics in the secondary school. The questionnaires were distributed to the 385 home economics teachers, lived in seoul, local cities and rural area. The data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, t-test one way ANOVA with scheffe test, factor analysis, and multiple regression analysis. Forty home management concepts were selected based on the related literatures. Resource use, environmental concerns, consumer rights and consumer problems were the concepts which showed the highest level of educational needs perceived by the teachers. The educational needs were affected by school level, residence area of the respondents, age, career, and other factors related to the perception about home management education.

The purpose of this study is to investagte Teacher’s attitudes and demands on the contents for housing of Home Economics Texbook of Middle School. The data from 236 home economics teachers were randomly selected through a mailing survey in nation wide. The findings of this study are as follows: Teacher’s attitudes toward housing area implied some suggestions for the following curriculum. And these attitudes were similar among respondents. The level of demands for each content on housing was over 3.2 out of 5, which indicated generally high demands toward housing area. Safety issues was the most demanded content. followed by solving space problems. Those demanding related issues were similar among respondents.

This study aims at seeking how to activate and operate vocational home economics curriculum efficiently. We collected data from school district offices in the nation and questionaries to 37 high school teachers in charge of vocational home economics, 30 teachers in charge of vocational course, 305 students of vocational school, and 135 students on vocational course for the recognition of and request for vocational home economics curriculum. Collected data were analysed by frequency, percentage, and X(sup)2, and SPSS/PC(sup)+ program are used for the statistical analysis. Followings are the outcomes of this study. 1. The number of classes in which vocational home economics is operated has been on the rise since 1986. As for curriculum of vocational high school, 79 classes for clothing, tourism, and childhood education are being operated in 8 schools. 2. Teachers acknowledge vocational training should keep complete and sustaining education and that it should aim ar conduction education which enables students to acquire technical knowledge and to seek a gob. Both teachers and students admit vocational home economics should be carried out so that vocational training can be combined with general education. 3. Teachers put more emphasis on its major field than that general field. As for laboratory classes, teachers complained about the financial lack, while students need for field practice for the purpose of opening the way for combing theory with practice and proposing for scientific study of industrial sites. As for the contents, students considered the technical course size appropriate and they though it is desirable that the ratio of practical class should be increased by more than 60% of that of the current class ratio.

This article is the result of the investigation on the actual condition of food preparation program carried out in elementary schools. Food preparation program belongs to the subject of ‘Shilgwa(Practice)’at elementary level. Though the result shows that instructors have no big problem in teaching theoretical part of the program, it is seriously doubtful whether students can acquire any scientifically practical knowledge which is able to be got through ‘practice’Only 4% of the investigated schools have cooking rooms, and even they have only very few cooking utensils or instruments. In spite of the importance of children’s earlier initiation into food preparation program, most schools are very poorly facilitated for education the program.

Recently, childhood obesity is increasing in Korea mainly due to westernized dietary pattern. The purpose of this study is to investigate diet pattern(habit and behavior), nutritional knowledge and taste favor in normal and obese children. We carried out anthropometries and self questionaire about life style among the 5th-grader in elementary school(88 boys, 102 girls) in Seoul. The results are as follows : Physical conditions are boys’average hight and weight 142.0cm, 37.5kg ; and girls’143.7cm, 35.6kg. BMI are normal group 38.7% and abnormal group 61.3%(obese 24.2% underweight 16.1% overweight 14.0% very underweight 7.0%) A great part of obese children live in apartment house(79.5% of obese children in southern Seoul; 60.2% in northern Seoul). Obese parents have obese children. Diet behavior, diet pattern, food habit and food preferance of children are similar to their parents, especially their mothers. Preferance in taste of children follows in order of hot, sweet and mild. Especially obese children favor sweet taste more than others. The 61% of them are interested in weight control. Their nutritional knowledges are poor(4.9/10). They like more westernized food(hamberger) than korean food(In-jul-me).
