Currently, most companies have security solutions such as firewalls or WAF (Web Application Firewall) for web services, cloud systems, and data centers. Recently, as the need for remote access increases, the task of overcoming the security vulnerabilities of remote access control is becoming more important. In this paper, the concept of the network security model from the perspective of zero trust and the strategy and security system using it will be reviewed.

The boundary-based security system has the advantage of high operational efficiency and easy management of security solutions, and is suitable for denying external security threats. However, since it is operated on the premise of a trusted user, it is not suitable to deny security threats that occur from within. A zero trust access control model was proposed to solve this problem of the boundary-based security system. In the zero trust access control model, the security requirements for real-time security event monitoring must be satisfied. In this study, we propose a monitoring method for the most basic file access among real-time monitoring functions. The proposed monitoring method operates at the kernel level and has the advantage of fundamentally preventing monitoring evasion due to the user's file bypass access. However, this study focuses on the monitoring method, so additional research to extend it to the access control function should be continued.

As massive increase in remote work since COVID-19, the boundaries between the inside and outside of corporate networks have become blurred. As a result, traditional perimeter security has stagnated business productivity and made it difficult to manage risks such as information leakage. The zero trust architecture model has emerged, but it is difficult to apply to IT environments composed of various companies. Therefore, using the remote work system configuration as an example, we presented a configuration and methodology that can apply zero trust models even in various network environments such as on-premise, cloud, and network separation. Through this, we aim to contribute to the creation of a safe and convenient cyber environment by providing guidance to companies that want to apply zero trust architecture, an intelligent system that actively responds to cyber threats.

Traditional security model design presents two primary issues. First, these models have been developed and implemented with a technology-centered approach rather than considering human factors. Such structures can be undermined by cognitive vulnerabilities like psychological resistance within organizations and user errors. Second, these models are typically designed based on network perimeter security. This design is unsuitable for the boundary-less remote work environments rapidly becoming prevalent due to the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the COVID-19 pandemic. This paper proposes an approach to address these limitations by integrating human-centered threats within the Zero Trust security model, a state-of-the-art boundary-less security framework. By doing so, we suggest a robust security model design that can protect against both technical and human-centered threats.

Zero trust, which means never trust anything before verifying it, is emerging as a hot issue in security field. After authenticating users, zero trust establishes network boundaries so that only networks in the trusted range can be accessed. This concept is also consistent with the concept of SDP, which performs pre-verification and creates a network boundary with a dynamic firewall so that clients can access only as many as they have permission to connect. Therefore, we recommend the SDP model as an example of how zero trust can be achieved in a zero trust architecture. In this paper, we point out the areas where SDP needs to be modified for zero trust and suggest ways to overcome them. In addition, we propose an onboarding method, which is one of the processes for becoming an SDP entity, and present performance measurement results.
Information service technology continues to develop, and information service continues to expand based on the IT convergence trend. The premeter-based security model chosen by many organizations can increase the effectiveness of security technologies. However, in the premeter-based security model, it is very difficult to deny security threats that occur from within. To solve this problem, a zero trust model has been proposed. The zero trust model requires authentication for user and terminal environments, device security environment verification, and real-time monitoring and control functions. The operating environment of the information service may vary. Information security management should be able to response effectively when security threats occur in various systems at the same time. In this study, we proposed a security policy distribution system in the object reference method that can effectively distribute security policies to many systems. It was confirmed that the object reference type security policy distribution system proposed in this study can support all of the operating environments of the system constituting the information service. Since the policy distribution performance was confirmed to be similar to that of other security systems, it was verified that it was sufficiently effective. However, since this study assumed that the security threat target was predefined, additional research is needed on the identification method of the breach target for each security threat.

The rapid advancement of computer technology has necessitated a safer user environment, prompting the adoption of the zero trust model, which verifies all internal and external network activities. This paper proposes an efficient network traffic data-based dynamic access control method leveraging Software-Defined Perimeter (SDP) capabilities to implement zero trust and address latency issues. According to the performance evaluation results, the detection performance of the proposed scheme is similar to that of conventional schemes, but the dataset size was reduced by 62.47%. Additionally, by proposing an adaptive zero trust verification approach, the dataset size and verification time were reduced by 83.9% and 9.1%, respectively, while maintaining similar detection performance to conventional methods.

As the cloud computing market grows, a variety of cloud services are now reliably delivered. Administrative agencies and public institutions of South Korea are transferring all their information systems to cloud systems. It is essential to develop security solutions in advance in order to safely operate cloud services, as protecting cloud services from misuse and malicious access by insiders and outsiders over the Internet is challenging. In this paper, we propose a zero trust model for cloud storage services that store sensitive data. We then verify the effectiveness of the proposed model by operating a cloud storage service. Memory, web, and network forensics are also performed to track access and usage of cloud users depending on the adoption of the zero trust model. As a cloud storage service, we use Amazon S3(Simple Storage Service) and deploy zero trust techniques such as access control lists and key management systems. In order to consider the different types of access to S3, furthermore, we generate service requests inside and outside AWS(Amazon Web Services) and then analyze the results of the zero trust techniques depending on the location of the service request.

The boundary-based security architecture has the advantage of easy deployment of security solutions and high operational efficiency. The boundary-based security architecture is easy to detect and block externally occurring security threats, but is inappropriate to block internally occurring security threats. Unfortunately, internal security threats are increasing in frequency. In order to solve this problem, a zero trust model has been proposed. The zero trust model requires a real-time monitoring function to analyze the behavior of a subject accessing various information resources. However, there is a limit to real-time monitoring of file access of a subject confirmed to be trusted in the system. Accordingly, this study proposes a method to monitor user's file access in real time. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed monitoring method, the target function was verified after the demonstration implementation. As a result, it was confirmed that the method proposed in this study can monitor access to files in real time.

Today, in the era of the 4th industrial revolution based on the paradigm of hyper-connectivity, super-intelligence, and superconvergence, the remote work environment is becoming central based on technologies such as mobile, cloud, and big data. This remote work environment has been accelerated by the demand for non-face-to-face due to COVID-19. Since the remote work environment can perform various tasks by accessing services and resources anytime and anywhere, it has increased work efficiency, but has caused a problem of incapacitating the traditional boundary-based network security model by making the internal and external boundaries ambiguous. In this paper, we propse a method to improve the limitations of the traditional boundary-oriented security strategy by building a security model centered on core components and their relationships based on the zero trust idea that all actions that occur in the network beyond the concept of the boundary are not trusted.
