This paper deals with the frequency sensing methods at HVDC system. The objects of frequency information in HVDC system areto fire a valve and to control a frequency of AC network. Conventionally, there are two methods to measure a frequency of AC network. The first method is to draw out from the synchronous machine and the second method is from AC network. Two methods have advantages and disadvantage each other. For the extreme case of a receiving system of zero inertia (no generation), synchronous machine is essential. In this situation, the frequency information received from the synchronous machine shaft. However, the speed of synchronous machine is oscillated when a disturbance in AC network occurs, and HVDC may be oscillated due to an oscillation speed. To solve this drawback, in this paper, new frequency sensing method is proposed. A proposed method that is use a modified curve-fitting algorithm, has a robust characteristics against a harmonics and unbalanced faults. Consequently, A proposed method is verified by PSCAD/EMTDC Program and experimental test.
Deck plates of ships or offshore structures would make out-of-plane distortion for their thin thickness. These distortions are usually straightened by thermal straightening such as flame heating method. After thermal straightening, the blocks are lifted and moved by cranes to assemble it at dry-dock stage. After this lifting process, out-of-plane deformation again happens frequently. And then, they continuously cause quality and accuracy problems in the final dry-dock process. So, it takes more time for repair and correction working. According to preceding research, the lifting process by cranes would offset the effect on thermal straightening. The target of this study is to develop a methodology analyzing the remaining efficiency of thermal straightening after block lifting. The development was based on the assumption of yield state at straightening region. Therefore the remaining efficiency was obtained by different stiffness slope while lifting & relieving. The efficiency formula was designed using inherent strain, and we made a table of zero-efficiency by cooling speed and class rule's steels. As a result, if the stress orthogonal to straightened line is calculated during lifting analysis by FEA, the efficiency can be obtained linearly to the values in the table. Finally, even optimized carling position can be designed by considering the regional data from series project and welding region on deck.

The resonators made of piezoelectric crystals such as a quartz crystal are widely used. Their frequency-temperature characteristics are of primary importance for their applications to the frequency control devices. The characteristics estimation is useful for determining their design parameters. In the present paper, several types of resonators are numerically analyzed. The numerical solutions are made using 3-D Finite Element Modeling, and the results are compared with the theoretical values whenever they are available. To demonstrate the validity of the present numerical approach, the application is made to the analysis of the plates with some well-established cutting angles. For the resonator stable with temperature change, the cutting angle is important in which the temperature coefficient of the first order is chosen to be zero. The rotated Y-cut plates in thickness-shear mode are considered. The equivalent circuit representation is often used fur describing the characteristics at the electrical terminals which enables the circuit analysis including the effect of temperature change by using the circuit simulators. The equivalent circuit parameters are obtained by fitting the admittance-frequency curve from the finite element analysis.

This paper presents an active contour model for extracting accurate facial regions in complex environments. In the model, a contour is represented by a zero level set of level function φ, and evolved via level set partial differential equations. Then, unlike general active contours, skin color information that is represented by 2D Gaussian model is used for evolving and slopping a curve, which allows the proposed method to be robust to noise and varying pose. To assess the effectiveness of the proposed method it was tested with several natural scenes, and the results were compared with those of geodesic active contours. Experimental results demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed method.

This paper proposes a parametric design of an LLC resonant inverter used for a microwave oven. To improve the harmonic performance of the microwave oven, a current controller with a variable PI gain is proposed. Due to the recent strengthening of harmonics regulations, inverter control technology for microwave ovens is now required to satisfy harmonic performance. In an LLC resonant inverter, the voltage gain varies remarkably depending on the magnetron voltage, output power, and input voltage. To satisfy harmonic performance, a controller that can maintain operation in the zero-voltage switching (ZVS) region and control changes in voltage gain is required. The modified design of the LLC resonant inverter ensures ZVS operation even when the magnetron is heated. Application of the variable current controller improves harmonic control according to the instantaneous gain curve change. The validity of the proposed power control with a variable current controller is verified by experiments with a 1200 W microwave oven.

The characteristics of the BOES (Bohyunsan Observatory Echelle Spectrograph) CCD camera is presented. In order to get optimum gain and readout noise of the CCD, we examine the variation of the gain and readout noise by changing the value of output drain voltage of the CCD and measuring the gain using transfer curve, which is defined as the plot of variance versus mean exposure level of a homogeneous light onto the CCD surface. The gain and readout noises are optimised to be 0.5e$^-$/ADU and 3e$^-$, which is good for highest signal-to-noise ratio and contrast for the low light level characteristics of the BOES. We also measure the dark count of the CCD by getting five dark images with 3600 seconds exposure time. The mean dark count from median stacked dark images is essentially zero. A table of positions of defected pixels is also presented.
We have conducted two runs of interlaboratory comparison on Ag-sheathed Bi-2223 tapes to evaluate the level of measurement techniques for the critical current measurement. Two classes of specimens were prepared for parallel and serial routings and sent to four participating laboratories. The critical currents of specimens were measured at 77 K in zero magnetic field. In the first comparison, we used twenty different Bi-2223 tapes as specimens for comparison and participating laboratories measured the specimens using their own instruments and procedures. As a result, the scattering of data on the first comparison showed -3.0% to +l2.2% for the parallel routing and -0.7% to +l5.1% for the serial routing. Major sources of these variations were attributed to different measurement techniques. Thus, the second comparison of measurement was done on the same specimens under specified measurement conditions, particularly in terms of cooling procedure and sweep rate of the test current. The variations for the second comparison were decreased -3.1% to +3.2% far the parallel routing and -1.8% to +7.7% fur the serial routing.

The objective of this study was to investigate the basic relationships between spectral reflectance and varying concentrations of sediment in surface waters. An experimental method for determining suspended sediment concentration (SSC) in the water by use of a spectroradiometer above the water surface, in visible and near-infrared (NIR) wavelengths, is applied. The main advantage of the method is the direct comparison of spectral reflectance and the SSC, but it requires an accurate knowledge of the water body and sediment. Therefore numerous spectroradiometric measurements are carried out in situ measurements, for SSC, ranging from zero to 100 percentage and two types of sediment applied in the water tank. The results indicate that the suspended sediment causes increasing spectral reflectance response in waters. We observed that spectral reflectance increases with SSC, first at the lower wavelengths (430-480 nm), then in the middle wavelengths (570-700 nm), and finally, in the NIR domain (800-820 nm); a characteristic maximum reflectance appears at 400-670 nm. Relationships between the wavelength, integral value, and the SSC were evaluated on the basis of the regression analysis. The regression curve for the relation between the wavelength, integral value, and the SSC were determined ($R^2$>0.98). Finally, the specular wavelength can be estimated to recognize the sediment and to improve SC estimation accuracy in the water.

Engine performance is one of the main objectives specified at the beginning of a new engine design project. The cycle simulation for SI engine is based on the zero-dimensional gas exchange model and a heat release expression by Viebe. This program also requires minimum input data and takes only a short time to run. Heat transfer from cylinder transfer formula. The flow coefficient (effective area) is calculated from valve lift using the standard flow coefficient curve and engine friction is calculated from the Millington and Hartles' engine friction formula. The chemical species considered in burned gas are 6 species CO, CO, H$_{2}$, H$_{2}$O, $O_{2}$, N$_{2}$ and the cylinder pressure, homogeneous cylinder temperature, gas composition and burned fraction are calculated at each crank angle through the cycle. To check the validity and accuracy, experimental study was done with 3 engines for measuring cylinder pressure, indicated mean effective pressure, brake mean effective pressure and air flow rate, etc. Despite its simple assumptions, cycle simulation showes excellent breathing and performance correlation when compared with data of tested engines, and have been proved useful in engine design.

At present, the principle of puffer action in high current interruption is adopted in almost of the EHV(Extra High Voltage) and UHV(Ultra High Voltage) GCB(Gas Circuit Breakers). The thermal interruption capability of these GCBs critically depends on the pressure rise in the puffer cylinder at current zero. The pressure rise in the puffer cylinder depends on the puffer cylinder volume, flow passage and leakage area in the interrupter, stroke curve etc. Recently commercial CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics ) packages have been widely adopted to calculate the pressure distribution in the interrupter. However, there are still several problems with it, e.g. very expensive price, moving boundary problem, computation time, difficulty in using the package etc. Thus, the calculation of the puffer cylinder pressure in simple and relatively correct method is essential in early stage of GCB design. In these paper, the model ing technique and computed results for EHV class GCB (HICO, 145kV 40kA and 362kV 40kA GCB) are presented and compared with available measured results.
