아동의 읽기에 대한 인식 (Children's Perception of Reading)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate children's perception of reading. The researchers interviewed 120 children aged 5 to 7 (40 for each age group) by using a specially designed interview format. The study of Johns (1973) was referred to as a guide in preparing the format. Responses of the children were classified in accordance with criteria worked out on the basis of the researchers' previous studies and analyzed in terms of frequencies and percentiles by age group. ${\chi}^2$ test was used to analyze the data. The findings of the study were: (1) The younger the children, the higher the rate of showing no response or of responding only to concrete incidents or things. Older children in general showed higher responses relevant to reading comprehension than younger ones. (2) Older children were more inclined than younger ones to regard the process of reading as a skill-oriented, teacher-based process. (3) Children in these age groups showed little perception of reading's objectives of comprehension and communication.

유아 그림책 속의 어린이에 대한 존재론적 이해 (The Ontological Understandings of Young Children in the Picture Books for the Early Childhood)

  • 이 연구는 좋은 유아 그림책 속에 나타난 어린이의 존재 특징을 고찰함으로써 어린이에 대한 존재론적 이해를 도모하고자 한 연구이다. 이러한 연구목적을 위해 좋은 그림책의 선정 기준에 대해 그림책 전문가에게 자문을 구하였으며 총 3단계에 걸쳐 최종적으로 존 버닝햄의 <알도>, 데이비드 위즈너의 <시간상자>, 백희나의 <장수탕 선녀님>, 피터시스의 <마들렌카의 개> 4권의 그림책이 분석대상으로 결정되었다. 분석을 위해 그림책 내용에 대한 극화코딩을 실시하였으며 이 극화코딩 자료들을 존재론적 현상학의 이론들을 통해 주제화하였다. 연구결과 유아 그림책에 나타난 어린이의 존재성은 각각 '피투이며 동시에 기투하는 중층적 존재'(알도), '욕심을 버리고 관계의 얽힘에 책임지는 존재'(시간상자), '타인의 얼굴에 반응하는 존재'(장수탕 선녀님), '성인의 교육적 반응을 촉구하는 존재'(마들렌카의 개)로 주제화되었다. 이러한 연구결과는 각각 어린이 존재성이 성인의 존재 특성과 다르지 않음(존재의 중층적 성격), 성인의 존재 특성과 다른 독특함(교육적 반응의 촉구), 성인의 존재성을 초월함(타인에 대한 책임과 반응)의 특징이 있음을 드러낸다. 이 연구는 몇몇 제한점에도 불구하고 어린이가 발달적 존재로서의 의존성과 미숙함을 지닌 존재일 뿐 아니라 중층적 존재이며 반응을 요청하고 책임을 지는 존재임을 발견하였다. 또한 어린이가 성인과 같은 존재 특성을 가질 뿐 아니라 때로는 그것을 넘어선다는 점을 드러냄으로써 어린이에 대한 존재론적 이해를 돕는다.

Analysis of Metacommunicative Episodes between Nurses and Children

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze metacommunicative episodes comprised of nurses' metacommunicative behavior and children's responses occurring in the dyads of nurse-child within the context of an inpatient pediatric unit. Methods: Twelve dyads of nurses and children were videotaped for four hours each day over a two-day period as they interacted with each other on the inpatient unit. The metacommunicative episodes were recorded from the videotapes. The metacommunicative behavior was categorized within Shin's metacommunicative behaviors. Results: The total number of episodes between the nurses and children included in this study was 242. The most frequently used metacommunicative behavior was 'reflection', followed by tagging, baby talk, approaching, mediating eye level, friendly demand, encouraging, description of acts, symbolization, turnabouts, touching, and mimic voice, respectively. The most common response to the nurses' metacommunicative behavior was agreeing, followed by tension release. Conclusion: Young children responded positively to metacommunicative behavior by the nurses. Understanding metacommunicative behavior may help nurses approach their young patients more easily and with confidence.

교사유아관계와 유아의 자기조절능력 간의 관계에서 자아존중감의 매개효과 (Mediating Effect of Self-esteem on the Teacher-Young Child Relationship and Self-regulation Ability of Young Children)

  • This study examined the mediating effects of self-esteem on the teacher-young child relationship and self-regulation ability of young children. A survey was conducted on a random sample of 252 young children aged 3-5 years attending a nursery in Gwang-ju, Korea. Based on the data, Person's correlations between variables were analyzed, and hierarchical regression analyses were conducted to identify the direct and indirect effects of the teacher-young child relationship and self-esteem on the self-regulation ability of the young children. First, there were positive correlations among the teacher-young child relationship (intimacy) and self-esteem as well as self-regulation ability. There were negative correlations among the teacher-young child relationship (conflict, dependence) and self-esteem as well as self-regulation ability. Second, self-esteem partially mediated the correlation between the teacher-young child relationship and self-regulation ability. The results suggest that self-esteem may affect the self-regulation ability of young children as a mediating response to the teacher-young child relationship.

  • This study aimed to examine the reliability and validity of a diagnostic instrument to be used to measure the developmental level of very young children (aged birth through 36 months) and to screen young children at risk. The subjects of this study were 861 young children. Data were analyzed by item response distribution, item discrimination, reliability, and validity of the scale. Items reflected the developmental level of each age group. Overall internal consistency was relatively high (Cronbach's ${\alpha}=.90{\sim}.95$), and test-retest (after 2 weeks) reliability was high. Content validity was examined by a panel of experts in the related field. The construct validity as well as the concurrent validity of this instrument was also established.

치과치료시(齒科治療時) 아동(兒童)의 협조(協調)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究) (THE STUDY ON THE CHILD'S COOPERATION IN THE DENTAL PROCEDURE)

  • The purpose of this study was to find out the child's cooperation in the dental procedure. This study was undertaken in 69 children, 39 in male, and 30 in female, whose ages ranged from 2 to 5 years old. The response of young children and their mother during dental procedure was examined by questionaire and observation. The results were as follows: 1. With continued experience, the child's cooperation was improved, indicating desensitization to dental stress 2. The Higher the mother's educational level was, the higher the behavior of the child was. 3. The mother and child's anxiety were significantly related to the dental behavior of the children, but child's past history and predicted cooperation were not to be related. 4 The child's familiarity and early education were not significantly related to the dental behavior of the children.

영유아 인구 감소에 대응하기 위한 보육현장 지원정책 제안 (Development of Child-Care Support Policy Strategies in Response to Declining Young Children's Population)

  • Objective: The purpose of this study is to develop a child-care support policy strategy in response to the decrease in the population of children aged 0-5 years. This will be achieved by collecting opinions from a panel of experts on child-care support policies through a Delphi survey. Methods: To achieve the purpose of this study, a panel of 20 experts in child-care policy was selected, and a Delphi survey was conducted over three sessions. Data collected through the Delphi survey underwent analysis, including frequency analysis, descriptive statistics, content validity ratio, coefficient of variation, agreement, and convergence. Data processing was carried out using Excel 2016 and SPSS 26.0. Results: As a result of the study, a child-care support policy strategy addressing the decrease in the population of children aged 0-5 years was developed, comprising three policy areas, nine policy tasks, and 38 detailed policy tasks. Conclusion/Implications: Based on these results, it is anticipated that the study will not only enable the preparation of a strategy for child-care support policy to address the decrease in the population of children aged 0-5 years but also offer significant implications for shaping the direction of child-care support policy in alignment with the common good.

유아를 위한 증강현실 그림책에 대한 사용성 연구 (Usability of Augmented Reality Picture Book for Young Children)

  • 본 연구는 유아용 증강현실 그림책의 사용성을 평가하기 위해 실시되었다. 사용성 평가를 위해 유치원 5세 학급의 유아 17명에게 증강 그림책을 읽게 하고 다음의 세 가지 측면에 대한 관찰과 인터뷰를 진행하였다; 1) 증강현실 그림책 읽기에서 유아의 실행정도, 2) 그림책을 읽는 과정에서 보이는 유아의 반응, 3) 증강 현실 그림책 읽기에 대한 유아의 만족도 연구 결과, 대부분의 유아들은 증강현실 그림책 읽기에서 웹캠과 그림책의 각도와 거리를 적절하게 조절하여 동영상 이미지를 떠오르게 할 수 있었고, 그림책 읽는 과정에서 유아들은 놀라움이나 기쁨을 표현하기, 질문하기, 실망과 좌절감을 표현하는 등의 언어적, 비언어적 행동을 보였다. 유아는 증강현실 그림책에 대한 흥미도와 난이도에 있어서 대체적으로 재미있고 쉽다는 반응을 보였다. 본 연구의 결과는 추후 개발될 증강현실 인터페이스의 개발과 성인-유아의 증강 그림책 읽기에 관한 시사점을 제공할 것으로 기대된다.

유아가 인식하는 부정적 정서와 반응 (Young Children's Perceptions and Responses to Negative Emotions)

  • In this study, the perceptions and responses of 136 kindergarten children from middle SES families were recorded in one-to-one interviews about the cause, reasons for expression, and responses to negative emotions. Results showed that children perceived he causes of anger and sadness as 'interpersonal events' and they perceived he cause of fear to be 'fantasy/scary events'. The children tended not to express their negative emotions because they expected negative responses from their peers and mothers, but when they did, the expressed their negative emotions to their mothers rather than to peers. Children responded to the negative emotions of their peers with 'problem-solving focused strategies', but they responded to their mothers' negative emotions with passive strategies, such as 'emotion focused response' and 'avoidance'.

Indirect revascularization surgery for moyamoya disease in children and its special considerations

  • Moyamoya disease (MMD) is the most common pediatric cerebrovascular disease in Far Eastern countries. In children, MMD frequently manifests as ischemic symptomatology. Cerebral perfusion gradually decreases as the disease progresses, which often leads to cerebral infarction. The benefits of revascularization surgery, whether direct or indirect, have been well established in MMD patients with ischemic symptoms. In adults, the increase in cerebral blood flow achieved with indirect revascularization is often unsatisfactory, and direct revascularization is usually feasible. In children, however, direct revascularization is frequently technically not feasible, whereas the response to indirect revascularization is excellent, although 1 or 2 weeks are required for stabilization of symptoms. The authors describe surgical procedures and perioperative care in indirect revascularization for MMD. In addition, special considerations with regard to very young patients, patients with recent cerebral infarction, and patients with hyperthyroidism are discussed.
