A Study on the Yolk Absorption and Early Growth in the Alevin of Rainbow Trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss (무지개송어, Oncorhynchus mykiss 자어의 난황흡수 및 초기성장에 관한 연구)

  • The growth of total length(TL), total weight(TW) and somatic weight(SW) of rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss alevin at yolk absorption period was expressed by the Gompertz growth model as $TLt=2.7e^{-1.24{\cdot}e^{-0.11t}}(r^{2}=0.66)$, $TWt=1.8e^{-2.03{\cdot}e^{-0.11t}}(r^{2}=0.66)$ and $SWt=1.8e^{-5.41{\cdot}e^{-0.13t}}(r^{2}=0.83)$ respectively. Yolk length, yolk height and yolk volume of rainbow trout decreased linearly. The relative growth of total weight-total length, somatic weight-total length, yolk length-total length, yolk height-total length, yolk volume-total length, yolk weight-total length, yolk weight-total weight, yolk weight-yolk height and yolk weight-yolk length at yolk absorption period revealed the pattern of yolk absorption in rainbow trout.

  • The process of yolk absorption and the growth pattern of churn salmon, Oncorhynchus keta alevin were studied. Matured males and females of chum salmon were sampled from the Namdaechun River in the east coast of Korea, and then an artificial fertilization was carried out using their eggs and sperms. Fertilized eggs were incubated in controlled water temperature of $13^{\circ}C$ and samples of 40 alevins were randomly taken at just hatching and at every three days between 12 days alter hatching and yolk absorption. The means of total length and total weight of hatched alevins were respectively 1.97cm and 1.85g and the yolk absorption took about 33 days after hatching, based on the morphological measurement. Growth curves of total length, total weight and somatic weight were fitted well with the Gompertz growth model. However, the shrinking in yolk-sac length, yolk-sac weight, yolk-sac height and yolk-sac volume revealed a linear phenomenon until the absorption of yolk was completed. The relative growth of chum salmon alevin, such as the relationship between total length and total weight, or between total weight and yolk-sac weight, was also studied.

  • The hatching of fertilized egg and early development of larval black seabream, Acanthopngrus schlegeli by immersion of 3,5,3'-triiodo-L-thyronine ($T_3$) with doses of 0.01~0.5 ppm in tank were examined for early development periods and compared with control fish immersed by 0.1 N NaOH and 99% alcohol. Larvae were fed with rotifers for first 5 days during experimental period. Yolk absorption of larvae from $T_3$ immersion groups were significantly faster than that of control. Although hatching times among each groups were not significant difference. the hatching rates of larvae in higher doses (0.1 ppm and 0.5 ppm $T_3$ groups) were significantly lower than control. The results of $T_3$ immersion experiments to newly hatching larvae indicated that exogenous $T_3$induced significant faster the absorption of yolk and oil globule, faster the development of myotome and digestive duct and higher the growth rate of larvae than larvae of control. These results indicate that $T_3$ immersion supplements appear to confer a distinct advantage to eggs and larvae of black seabream, which is in early fragile developmental stage.

Development of Anti - obesity Dietary Supplement Decreasing Nutrient Absorption by Digestive Enzyme Inhibition in Gut (장내 소화 효소 활성 저해를 통한 섭취 영양소의 흡수 억제와 이를 이용한 비만 개선용 식이조성물의 개발)

  • In this study, we found a new food additive as an natural herbal extracts against lipid digestion enzymes for the regulation of fatty acid absorption and weight control. The Water extracts of Platycodon grandiflorum and Solanum melongena. inhibited lipase activity and decresed serum total cholesterol and triglyceride concentration in mouse fed lipid emulsion. Twenty three volunteers were subjected to the intake of the herbal extracts plus the egg yolk IgY that inhibit carbohydrate digestion enzymes in gut for 50 days. In average, the treated subjects appeared to lose 1.96 kg of body weight and 3.4 kg of body fat mass during the treated period. Furthermore, Panniculus adiposus and breech size were significantly decreased during the experimental period. Above results suggested that the administration of the dietary additives composed of natural herbal extract and egg yolk IgY improve the obesity by the decrement of body weight and body fat mass.

  • The concentration of heavy metals in 12 eggs collected from 6 nests of Intermediate Egret, Egretta intermedia intermedia from Ogjong-myun, Hadong-gun, Kyungnam, was examined by atomic absorption spectrophoto-meter method in 1983. It was found that heavy metals are contained in their eggs with highest concentration Cd and Cu in the eggshell and Cr, Zn, Pb and Mn in the yolk, respectively. The thin-shelled group, by their eggshell thickness grouping, contained heavy metal in higher amount than that of thick eggshelled group. And the thin group showed small values in weight of individual egg, its yolk and albumen.

Effect of Starvation on Growth and Hepatocyte Nuclear Size of Larval Haddock, Melanogrammus aeglefinus

  • Early growth, the rate of yolk sac absorption, and nucleus size in liver parenchymal cells were correlated with the nutritional status of first feeding larval haddock, Melanogrammus aeglefinus. Larvae that successfully began exogenous feeding maintained high growth rates, delayed yolk sac resorption, and had larger hepatocyte nuclear sizes than starved larvae. At 10 days post hatch (DPH) the cumulative mortality in the starved larval haddock group was 100%. The area of the hepatocyte nuclei in starved larvae gradually decreased, reaching its lowest value by 9 DPH. Our results support the current practice of providing the first food supply at 3 DPH. Hepatocyte nuclear size can be used to assess larval haddock nutrition status, and may be a good criterion for assessing the success of transition from endogenous to exogenous feeding.

Effects of Egg Phospholipids on the Intestinal Absorption of Lipids

  • This study was conducted to determine the effects of egg phospholipids [(Phosphatidylcholine (PC) and sphingomyelin (SM)] on intestinal absorption of cholesterol and other lipids. Each rat with Iymph cannula was infused via a duodenal catheter at 3.0 mL/h for 8 h with a lipid emulsion containing triolein, cholesterol and PC in 24 mL PBS. The PC in the lipid emulsion was egg PC (EPC), hydrogenated egg PC (HPC), or soy PC (SPC). The EPC in the lipid emulsion markedly lowered the Iymphatic absorption of cholesterol, compared with SPC and a lipid emulsion containing no PC. The HPC further lowered the absorption of cholesterol. The phospholipid output was not affected by the source of PC infused. The total Iymphatic output of oleic acid (18: 1), the major fatty acid infused in the form of triolein, did not differ among the NPC, SPC and EPC groups, but was significantly lower in the HPC group. The findings provide the first evidence that EPC markedly lowers the Iymphatic absorption of cholesterol under in vivo conditions. The inhibitory effect of EPC appears to be due to the higher degree of saturation of its acyl groups relative to SPC, suggesting that the intestinal absorption of egg cholesterol may be reduced by the presence of PC in e99 yolk. Experiment 2 was designed to determine whether egg SM, structurally similar to PC, also inhibits the Iymphatic absorption of cholesterol. Egg SM lowered the Lymphatic absorption of cholesterol in a dose dependent manner. Likewise, SM lowered the Iymphatic absorption of oleic acid, whereas it had no effect on retinol absorption. SM at a high dose lowered the Iymphatic outputs of both PC and SM, whereas there was no such effect at a lower dose. These results also indicate that luminal egg SM has an inhibitory effect on the intestinal absorption of cholesterol and other lipids of relatively high hydrophobicity.

이석의 일륜을 이용한 멸치의 산란기에 따른 성장률 변화

  • 전북 식도 연안 정치망에서 1996년 6월에서 11월 사이 월별로 채집된 멸치 유어 이석의 일륜과 그 폭을 광학현미경과 주사전자현미경으로 관찰하여 산란기를 추정하고, 일일 성장률을 역추산하여 산란기에 따른 일일 성장률을 비교 분석하였다. 시상면 (sagittal plane)을 지나는 이석에는 부화 성장 정지선(hatch check)이 형성되었고, 그 외부를 둘러싼 난황 자어기에 형성된 것으로 추정되는 평균 4개의 불분명한 미세성장선이 관찰되었으며, 난황흡수성장정지선(yolk-absorption mark)이후에는 비교적 명확한 일륜이 형성되었다. Early Life Cycle of Rhinogobius brunneus from Wicheon Korea (위천에 서식하는 밀어(Rhinogobius brunneus)의 초기생활사)

  • In this study, the morphological development and early life cycle of larvae and juvenile Rhinogobius brunneus found in Wicheon, Nakdong River, Korea, were investigated. The fertilized eggs were 2.20×0.68 mm (long×short) in diameter. The eggs began hatching approximately 104 h after fertilization at water temperatures of 17.3-20.5℃ (mean 18.9±1.6℃). The newly hatched yolk-sac larvae were 3.71±0.06 mm in total length (TL), with an unopened anus. Three days after hatching, the preflexion larvae were 4.37±0.16 mm in TL with yolk absorption. Twenty days after hatching, the flexion larvae were 6.50±0.22 mm in TL and the tip of the notochord was bent upward. Twenty-seven days after hatching, the postflexion larvae were 11.8±0.63 mm in TL, and the tip of the urostyle was bent at 45°. Forty days after hatching, individuals measured 18.5±0.93 mm in TL and were considered as juveniles as the number of fins became constant for each part. All the postflexion larvae had detached fins. Additionally, the melanophore was observed to be distributed on the head, centrum of the body, and dorsal fin, and there was a difference in the morphology from the water stream.

Efficacy of Supplemental Lecithin-free Egg Yolk at Different Dietary Calcium Levels on Growth Performance and Ca Absorption of Laying Hens (계란 난황 레시틴 추출 부산물이 사료 내 Ca 함량을 조절한 산란계의 생산성과 Ca 흡수에 미치는 영향)

  • A 3-weeks feeding trial with 288 laying hens were conducted to determine the efficacy of lecithin-free egg yolk at different levels of dietary Ca on performance and Ca absorption. Laying hens were divided into 6 groups according to calcium level and testing agent; 0% calcium feed (A), 0.2% calcium feed (B), 0.4% calcium feed (C, normal feed), 0.6% calcium feed (D), 0.4% calcium feed + 0.2% egg byproduct (C+0.2), 0.4% calcium feed + 0.4% egg byproduct (C+0.4). The final body weight gain of C+0.2 and C+0.4 groups were higher by 1.5% and 7.4% respectively than group C. Tibia ash contents did not show significantly difference, but calcium contents increase (p<0.05) in C+0.2 and C+0.4 groups. Parallel undecalcified tibia joint sections were stained for calcium absorption by the von Kossa's stain. This result show that lecithin free egg byproduct supplementation to normal calcium feed improved growth performance and calcium utilization in laying hens.
