CHANGES IN LIVE-WEIGHT GAIN, BLOOD CONSTITUENTS AND WORM EGG COUNTS IN THAI NATIVE AND CROSS-BRED GOATS RAISED IN VILLAGE ENVIRONMENTS IN SOUTHERN THAILAND

  • The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of internal parasites on growth rates of Thai Native (TN) and crossbred (75% TN $\times$ 25% Anglo-Nubian, AN and 50% TN $\times$ 50% AN) goats (undrenched, drenched every 3 weeks or at 9 weeks) in village environments in southern Thailand in a humid tropical climate. There was no significant (p > 0.05) difference in growth rate ($g/kg^{0.75}/d$) between the genotypes during unsupplemented grazing (0-64 days of the experimental period). However, during supplementary feeding (64-127 days) and throughout the period (0-127 days) TN goats had significantly (p < 0.01) lower growth rates compared with 75% TN $\times$ 25% AN and 50% TN $\times$ 50% AN goats. There was no (p > 0.05) significant difference in growth rates between 75% TN $\times$ 25% AN and 50% TN $\times$ 50 % AN goats. The growth rates of goats drenched every 3 weeks were significantly (p < 0.01) higher than those undrenched or drenched at 9 weeks. The results of this study also indicate that drenching alone did not result in increased weight gain except when the nutritional status was also improved. Parasitic infection affected some blood constituents, such as pack cell volume, haemoglobin, total protein and albumin. This resulted in lower growth rates for control groups and goats drenched at 9 weeks compared to those of goats drenched every 3 weeks.

Studies on INtestinal TRematodes in Korea XVII. Development and Egg Laying Capacity of Echinostoma hortense in Albino Rats ans Human Experimental Infection (한국의 장흡충에 관한 연구 XVII. 호르텐스극구흡충의 흰쥐내 발육, 충란산출양상 및 인체실험감염)

  • The worm development and egg laying pattern of Echinostoma hortense (Trematoda; Echinosto-matidae) were studied in albino rats and the brief clinical course was observed in human volunteers. A total of 21 rats were infected with 20~69 metacercariae each and two humans were with 7 and 27 metacercariae, which were collected from the loaches. For recovery of worms, the rats were sacrificed at irregular intervals from the 6th to 150th day after infection and the human volunteers were treated with praziquantel and purged with magnesium salt on the 26~27th day. The stools of the rats and humans were examined for the eggs. The results were as follows: 1. The worm recovery rate from the rats was not affected by the increase of infection time but varied individually; 9.1~50.0% (31.1 % in average). From humans, 14.3% and 37.0% (32.4% in average) of challenged were recovered. 2. In the rats, it was revealed that the worms rapidly grew for the first 14 days to become 7.59mm in average length and 1.17mm in average width but the growth became much slower thereafter until the 150th day; 7.95mm in length on the 21 th day, 9.04mm on the 28th day, 10.21mm on the 49th day and 12. 62mm on the 150th day. During the early stage of infection, the growth of genital organs (male or female) was expressed as sigmoid curves whereas non-genital organs (such as suckers) was simply as straight lines. 3. The prepatent period of this fluke was 10~12 days in the rats and 16~17 days in men. After the start of oviposition, the egg production by the worms remarkably increased, reached maximum on the 32~33th day, followed by decrease thereafter. The maximum value of E.P.G./worm was 390. 4. The major subjective symptoms in human volunteers were abdominal pain and diarrhea during the early stage of infection. The results show that human is as susceptible as the rats to E. hortense infection and the amount of egg production in the rats is greatly affected by the age of worms.

Intensity of Infection and Development of Adult Clonorchis sinensis in Hamsters (햄스터에서의 병흡충 기생정도와 발육상)

  • In an attempt to determine the susceptibility of inbred golden hamsters(Mesocricetus auratus) to the experimental infection with Clonorchis sinensis, twenty-five hamsters were divided into 5 groups and administered orally 5, 10, 20, 30 or 50 metacercariae each. The hamsters were killed on the 45th day after infection. The adult flukes were recovered from all hamsters. The overall recovery rate for the fluke was 57.9% with the range of 48.4% to 92.0%. As the number of the metacercariae given increased, a porportionate decrease in the recovery rate was found, the prepatent period of the fluke in the hamster varied from 15 to 17 days, with the average of 16 days. No significant differences in the development of the flukes were observed. Egg production expressed by EPG, increased step by step as the time elapsed. However, a tendency of decreasing egg laying capacity was observed with the increase of worm burden. It is suggested that the hamster is a suitable final host of C. sinensis.

  • The last two decades witnessed significant advances in the efforts of immune-parasitologists to elucidate the nature and role of the host mucosal defence mechanisms against intestinal nematode parasites. Aided by recent advances in basic immunology and biotechnology with the concomitant development of well defined laboratory models of infection, immunoparasitologists have more precisely analyzed and defined the different immune effector mechanisms during the infection; resulting in great improvement in our current knowledge and understanding of protective immunity against gastrointestinal (GI) nematode parasites. Much of this current understanding comes from experimental studies in laboratory rodents, which have been used as models of livestock and human GI nematode infections. These rodent studies, which have concentrated on Heligmosomoides polygyrus, Nippostrongylus brasiliensis, Strongyloides ratti/5. venezuelensis. Trichinella spiralis and trichuris muris infections in mice and rats, have helped in defining the types of T cell responses that regulate effector mechanisms and the effector mechanisms responsible for worm expulsion. In addition, these studies bear indications that traditionally accepted mechanisms of resistance such as eosinophilia and IgE responses may not play as important roles in protection as were previously conceived. In this review, we shall, from these rodent studies, attempt an overview of the mucosal and other effector responses against intestinal nematode parasites beginning with the indices of immune protection as a model of the protective immune responses that may occur in animals and man.

  • Because of the internet development, most of people can acquire the information freely. But it have the disadvantages. A remarkable thing among the disadvantages is the internet attack. Internet attacks were given damages to several fields. Specially, the damage is terrible to the economic side. Specially, company is susceptive to economic damage side. But it didn't execute a research about model that estimates damage to the economic side due to internet attacks. This paper presents a model that estimates the damage to economic side due to internet attacks.

  • Recent growth of hacking threats and development in software and technology put Network security under threat, In addition, intrusion, malware and worm virus have been increased due to the existence of variety of sophisticated hacking methods. The goal of this study is to compare Snort Alpha version with Suricata 2.0.11 version whereas previous study focuses on comparison between snort 2. x version under thread environment and Suricata under multi-threading environment. This thesis' experiment environment is set as followed. Intel (R) Core (TM) i5-4690 3. 50GHz (4threads) of CPU, 16GB of RAM, 3TB of Seagate HDD, Ubuntu 14.04 are used. According to the result, Snort Alpha version is superior to Suricata in performance, but Snort Alpha had some glitches when executing pcap files which created core dump errors. Therefore this experiment seeks to analyze which performs better between Snort Alpha version that supports multi packet processing threads and Suricata that supports multi-threading. Through this experiment, one can expect the better performance of beta and formal version of Snort in the future.

A Study on the Improvement of the Wear Resistance of P-bronze (인청동의 내마모성향상에 대한 연구)

  • The wear resistance of P-bronze which is widely used as worm gear material was investigated. In order 1o study the effect of additional elements on the wear resistance of Pbronze, the applied load and sliding time were selected as variables, and SCM4, were used as against metal. The addition of Fe improve wear resistance, for it precipities hard Fe$_3$ P phase and the work hardening coefficients are lowered due to decreasing solubility of P. When Fe is added in conventional P-bronze, the alloy is rather sliding than forming wear debris by frictional force during wear test. Experimental results indicated that the wear mechanisms for P-bronze are mainly consisted of abrasive wear due to Beilby layer forming mechanism and adhesive wear due to thermally activated wear mechanism. Moreover, the weight loss is decreased in accordance with increasing load and time. However the rate of wear loss is decreased as the sliding time is increased.

Antioxidant Activity of Beta vulgaris L. Methanol Extract in Caenorhabditis elegans (비트 Methanol 추출물의 예쁜 꼬마선충에 대한 항산화 효과)

  • Caenorhabditis elegans model system was used to investigate the antioxidant activity of Beta vulgaris L. (Chenopodiaceae) methanol extract. The methanol extract showed DPPH radical scavenging and superoxide quenching activity in a dose-dependent manner. The B. vulgaris methanol extract was measured for the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase, and oxidative stress tolerance by using C. elegans, along with reactive oxygen species (ROS) level. In addition, to see that the regulation of the stress response gene is responsible for the increased stress tolerance of C. elegans treated by the methanol extract, SOD-3 expression was measured using a transgenic strain. As a result, the B. vulgaris methanol extract increased SOD and catalase activities, and decreased ROS accumulation, dose-dependently. Furthermore, the methanol extract-treated CF1553 worm showed higher SOD-3::GFP intensity than the control.

  • After the first malware, the brain virus, was founded in 1986, various types of malwares have been created Including worm, dropper, trojan, backdoor, rootkit and downloader. Especially in recent years, driver-type malware have made then more difficult to analyze. therefore, malware analyst require competitive skills. To analyze malware well, you need to know how it works and have to do it by yourself. So in this paper, we develop the dropper, backdoor, trojan, rootkit and driver similar to malware distributed in the real world. It shows the execution behavior on the virtual environment system We propose a method to analyze malware quickly and effectively with static analysis and dynamic analysis.

  • A study of benthic populations on a tidal flat near Inchon has revealed the presence of Amphictene japonica (Nilsson) a large pectinariid polychaete worm not previously documented in Korean waters. Near Inchon it is apparently restricted to silty sands or sandy silts along seaward parts of the intertidal flat. In addition to its large size, A. japonica is distinguished from other pectinariids by means of (1) the posterior rim of the cephalic plaque, which bears 20 to 25 marginal denticulations, and (2) the scaphal hooks, which number 19 to 24 on either side.
