  • With the success of flexible manufacturing systems(FMSs), flexible assembly systems(FASs) have been developed to automatic factories further. As in a cellular FMS, a celluar FAS is considered as the most flexible and feasible assembly systems configuration. This paper presents a method for the integrated layout design in cellular FASs. Unlike the traditional paper, this paper deals with the formation of cells and the layout of cells for jobs with operation times on different machines. The procedure in this paper consists of two distinct phases. The first phase presents machine arrangement in a double rows flowline. cell formation not to allow intercellular movements, and integrated layout design in cellular FASs considering the characteristics of FAS, layout, and production factors This phase uses older optimal algorithm. The second phase proposes to balance the system with an objective of reducing the degree of workload deviation in the cells. Simulated annealing method is used to balance the system. This phase also shows the integrated layout design in cellular FASs with the cost less than total cost of the first phase.

  • Purpose: This study was done to explore how nurses manage the boundary for work-family balance. Methods: Data were collected through in-depth interviews from February 1 to May 28, 2012. Participants were 13 married nurses with children. The constant comparative method was adapted for data analysis. Results: In this study, nurses' work-family boundary management had characteristics of integration, maintenance and control, but it was adjusted and modified over time as the order of priorities was rearranged according to changes in internal cognition and family support. Nurses strategically persuaded their families to understand their work and share housework in an effort to integrate work and family, while controlling them by managing working hours and time for themselves. Conclusion: The results of the study indicate that nurses' work has an impact on family life due to heavy workload and insufficient time, however the work-family balance can be successfully maintained with the effective separation of the two areas.

  • Round-robin is widely used for the scheduling of large-scale parallel workloads in the computing units of GPGPU. Round-robin is easy to implement by sequentially allocating tasks to each computing unit, but the load balance between computing units is not well achieved in multi-workload environments like cloud. In this paper, we propose a new thread block scheduling policy to resolve this situation. The proposed policy manages thread blocks generated by various GPGPU workloads with multiple queues based on their computation loads and tries to maximize the resource utilization of each computing unit by selecting a thread block from the queue that can maximally utilize the remaining resources, thereby inducing load balance between computing units. Through simulation experiments under various load environments, we show that the proposed policy improves the GPGPU performance by 24.8% on average compared to Round-robin.

  • In this paper, we propose an approach to parallelize a load balancing algorithm that was shown to be very effective in distributing workload for parallel computations. Load balancing algorithms are required in executing parallel program efficiently As a parallel computation model, we used dynamically growing tree structure that can be found in many application problems. The load balancing algorithm tries to balance the workload among processors while keeping the communication cost under certain limit. We show how the load balancing algorithm is effectively parallelized on mesh and hypercube interconnection networks, and analyzed the time complexity for each case to show that parallel algorithm actually reduced the various overhead.

  • The main stream of parallel programming today is using synchronous algorithms, where processor synchronization for correct computation and workload balance are essential. Overall performance of the whole system is dependent upon the performance of the slowest processor, if workload is not well-balanced or heterogeneous clusters are used. Asynchronous iteration is a way to mitigate such problems, but most of the works done so far are for shared memory systems. In this paper, we suggest and implement a parallel large sparse linear system solver that improves performance on distributed memory systems like clusters by reducing processor idle times as much as possible by asynchronous iterations.

  • The gaming server is based on a distributed server. In order to distribute workloads of gaming servers, distributed gaming servers apply some algorithms which divide each of gaming server's workload into balanced workload among the gaming servers and as a result, efficiently manage response time and fusibility of server requested by the clients. In this paper, we propose a load balancing agent using PPO(Proximal Policy Optimization) which is one of the methods from a greedy algorithm and Policy Gradient which is from Reinforcement Learning. The proposed load balancing agent is compared with the previous researches based on the simulation.

  • This study examined how the police officers use their annual leaves. While Korean police officers have burdens of heavy workload exceeding their regular office hours, they are passive to get leaves to keep in shape from long hours of work, to maintain the appropriate level of work productivity, and to secure time for leisure and cultural activities. It appeared that most of the police officers surveyed haven't used their annual leaves for less than half of the days designated by law. It also appeared tat female officers used more leaves than male officers, and married officers than single ones. Considering the characteristics of work environment, it showed that officers doing shift work had less days of leaves than officers in non-shift work. The reasons why the police take leaves passively lie on various factors that heavy workload, work-oriented life, work-oriented police organizational culture preceding family and so forth. Therefore, it needed to supplement the personnels to meet the needs of overwhelming workload of the police and to allocate the work properly in advance. In addition, it needed to raise the awareness of the police managers and proliferation of organizational culture to place emphasis on balance between work and family.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of socioeconomic status on the eating-out satisfaction, eating-out expenditure, meal balance and dietary attitude of 251 married females in Youngnam Area. The monthly frequency of eating out with family was 2.5 visits with an expenditure of 116,000 won in this study. Korean food was the most frequently selected type of board for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The respondents satisfied with the taste of the food the most, whereas least satisfied with the sanitation. The average expenditure for eating-out was 62,000 won per visit with the average of 39,000 won in the lowest income group and 78,000 won in the highest one. Regarding the meal balance score, the overall score was 3.48 with the lowest score(2.98) being recorded for the dairy products and the highest score(3.95) for vegetables. As for the dietary attitude score, breakfast scored the highest(3.79) and consideration of balanced workload, exercise, rest and dining activities received the lowest score(2.57). Meal balance and attitude scores were not significantly different among the eating-out expenditure levels. The eating-out expenditure demonstrated a positive correlation with total food expenditures, household income, educational attainment and others. The low income group who had low meal balance scores and dietary attitude scores tended to spend proportionally more on eating-out. In conclusion, the studies revealed that the respondents favored the Korean food and did not satisfied with the sanitation most when eating-out. In terms of eating-out expenses, the group with the highest income and educational attainment spent the most on eating-out and food expenditures.

  • The paper examines the determinants of employee engagement in the not-for-profit organization (NFPO) sector. A structured questionnaire survey of 205 NFPO employees in Vietnam was employed, preceded by in-depth interviews with NFPO associates and managers. After a multiple regression analysis to study the impact of five independent variables on one dependent variable, the study reveals that Work design and Work-life balance are positively and significantly associated with employee engagement. Of which, Work design is measured by the level of job fit, job autonomy, job challenge, and job meaningfulness. On the other hand, Work-life balance involves measurement aspects consisting of how reasonable the workload is and organizational support. Meanwhile, different from the business world, Leadership, Learning and Development, and Recognition do not show statistically positive impacts on employee engagement in NFPOs. Still, they are crucial back-supporting factors to ensure employee experience at work. Further, the study finds that personal growth contributes a great part to keep employees in the sector motivated. This paper brings the area of study to the forefront in an effort to benefit the practice of human resources management in NFPOs as well as support employees in the sector with a higher quality working experience.

  • For a multiprocessor System-on-Chip (MPSoC) to achieve high performance via parallelism, we must consider how to partition a given application into different components and map the components onto multiple processors. In this paper, we propose a software pipeline-based partitioning method with cyclic dependent task management and communication optimization. During task partitioning, simultaneously considering computation load balance and communication optimization can cause interference, which leads to performance loss. To address this issue, we formulate their constraints and apply an integer linear programming approach to find an optimal partitioning result - one that requires a trade-off between these two factors. Experimental results on a reconfigurable MPSoC platform demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, with 20% to 40% performance improvements compared to a traditional software pipeline-based partitioning method.
