Overemployment of Workers in Penang, Malaysia: An Empirical Analysis

  • Many workers today encounter the problem of overemployment which occurs when actual working hours exceed preferred or desired working hours. Overemployed workers desire to work fewer hours although this may entail a concomitant decline in earnings. This research is conducted to examine the likelihood of overemployment among employees in a particular state in Malaysia, that is, Penang. This study uses primary data that was collected in a survey encompassing a total of 525 employees in the state. A logit model is used to analyse the relationship between the likelihood of overemployment and various socio-demographic, household and work-related variables. The factors that are significantly related to overemployment are ethnicity, age, education, number of children in the household, occupation, hours of work and control over work schedule. Based on the findings of this paper, it is suggested that policies such as offering part-time jobs or job-sharing options to older workers, implementing family-friendly policies, adopting decent working time measures and strategies that give workers more control over their work schedule are some possible ways to deal with the issue of overemployment.

비정규직 임금노동자의 행복에 영향을 미치는 일의 특성 연구 (Characteristics of Work Impact on Contingent Worker's Happiness)

  • 본 연구는 비정규직 임금노동자의 행복에 직장만족도와 일의 특성이 어떻게 영향을 미치는가를 규명하는데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위하여 본 연구는 한국교육고용패널(KEEP) 12차년도 데이터에서 전일제 비정규직 임금노동자 데이터를 추출하여 기술통계 및 위계적 다중회귀분석을 사용하여 분석하고 다음과 같은 유의미한 결과를 도출하였다. 비정규직 임금노동자는 주당 49시간일하고 평균 208만원을 받고 있었으며 자신의 교육수준이나 기술 및 능력에 비해 낮은 수준의 일을 하고 있다고 보고하였다. 이는 위계적 회귀분석결과 일의 내연적 특성, 즉 기술 및 능력에 비해 낮은 수준의 일을 하는 것이 일터에서의 행복에 영향을 미치고 있었으며, 직장에서의 의사소통과 임금, 근로환경에 대한 만족 역시 비정규직 임금근로자의 행복에 영향을 주고 있었다. 본 연구는 근로자의 행복을 향상시키기 위하여 조직 내 의사소통의 강화와 업무에 몰입할 수 있도록 업무관련 지식 및 보유 기술을 정확히 분석하고 이에 의거한 업무 배치 및 학습자의 정확한 분석을 통해 조직원들을 지원해야 함을 제언하고 있다.

보건소 건강증진사업 담당자의 직무교육에 대한 인식 및 교육요구도 (Analysis of Perceived Job Training and Educational Needs for the Public Health Promotion Program Personnel)

  • Objectives: This study is for understanding the perceived job training of the public health promotion program officials and analysis the educational needs in order to serve as the basis for the development of the future educational programs. Methods: To this end, we have developed a survey based on references and consultations with experts. We had explained the purpose and the intent of the survey to nationwide public health directors in advance and an online questionnaire was conducted for health promotion program and service providing personnel; the results from a total of 763 survey respondents were used in the final analysis. Collected data were analyzed through SPSS Win 21.0. Results: The results shows that the tasks of public health promotion personnel are 'business practices,' 'planning and evaluation related work' and so on in order of importance while the duties of service providing personnel are 'counseling,' 'education' and so on. One of the factors affecting field applications of education is 'awareness of the connection between education and career development' which accounts for 33% of explanatory power; the selected six other factors constitute 41.7%. Necessary educational contents for public officials are 'public health service planning,' 'report writing skills' and 'project evaluation methods.' On the other hand, for service providers, the contents are 'counseling methods,' 'development of educational materials,' 'monitoring health status' and so on. Conclusions: In order for trained service personnel to accord with the changed health promotion environment and the demand of local residents, Public Health Promotion officials should increase educational opportunities based on the competencies for each job, provide continuous learning opportunities and information even after the training, and finally, create a system that can link to career development.

어머니의 직업활동이 선천성 근육사경에 미치는 영향 (Relationship between Maternal Work Activity and Congenital Muscular Torticollis)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 선천성 근육사경과 산모의 직업적 활동 간의 관련성을 알아보는 것이다. 2006년부터 2011년 4월까지 수원 "C" 병원 재활의학과를 내원한 선천성 근육사경아동의 산모 89명을 대상으로 실시하였다. 결과는 첫째, 연구대상자의 일반적 특성을 보면, 출산 평균연령은 30.09세, 교육수준은 대졸이상이 많았으며, 초산이 82.0%로 나타났으며, 자연분만, 제왕절개, 흡입분만 순이었고, 분만 시 둔위여부는 20.2%로 나타났으며, 첫째 아동이 사경인 경우가 82.0%로 나타났고, 둘째, 연구대상자의 직업적 특성에서 직장생활을 한 산모가 59.6%이고 전문가 및 관련종사자가 45.3%를 차지하였고, 직장생활을 임신 3기까지 한 산모가 75.5%로 나타났고, 주로 서서 일하는 자세보다 앉아서 일하는 자세로 앉아서 일하는 시간이 7시간 이상이 54.7%로 나타났으며, 하루 평균 근무시간은 8.75시간으로 나타났고, 셋째, 연구대상자의 직무스트레스는 하위 25%이하 수준으로 나타났으며, 하위 요인별 정도에선 관계갈등영역에서만 상위 50%이상으로 나타났다. 넷째, 연구대상자의 직무스트레스와 직업적 업무 특성간의 상관관계를 보면, 스트레스(100점 환산)와 직무스트레스의 직무요구, 관계갈등, 보상 부적절, 직장문화와 양의 상관관계가 높게 나타났으며, 직장문화와 보상 부적절간에도 양의 상관관계가 높게 나타났다. 직업적 업무 중 하루 평균 근무시간과 평균 일주일 근무시간과 양의 상관관계가 높게 나타났다.

요양보호사의 직무만족에 영향을 미치는 요인 - 전라남도 지역을 중심으로 - (Factors Influencing on the Job Satisfaction for Care Workers - Case Study of Jeollanamdo -)

  • 이 연구는 노인장기요양보험제도 실시 3년이 경과한 지금, 노인장기요양서비스의 핵심 인력인 요양보호사가 이 제도의 성패여부를 좌우하고 있다는 사실에 주목하고, 이들에게서 나타나는 주요 특성과 직무만족에 영향을 미치는 요인이 무엇인지를 찾아내고자 하였다. 분석 자료는 전라남도 노인장기요양기관 61곳에 종사하고 있는 요양보호사 291명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 여성이 93.5%를 차지하였으며, 40-50세 이상의 연령이 78%였고, 고졸이하의 학력이 68.7%로 나타났다. 둘째, 고용형태는 계약직, 임시직이 63.2%를 차지하였으며, 지난 1년간 받은 교육 총 횟수는 53.3%가 5회 미만 이였고, 연봉은 79.7%가 2,000만원 미만으로 나타났다. 셋째, 전체 직무만족도는 5점 리커트 척도의 3.19점으로 나타났고, 시설급여기관에 종사한 요양보호사보다는 재가급여기관에 종사한 요양보호사가, 비정규직보다는 정규직이, 연간교육 횟수와 연봉이 많은 요양보호사일수록 직무만족도는 유의하게 높아지는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 토대로 요양보호사의 직무만족에 영향을 미치는 요인에 대한 논의와 직무만족향상방안에 대한 제언을 하였다.

치위생(학)과 졸업예정자의 취업준비 및 선호도에 관한 조사연구 (Employment preparation and job preference of dental hygiene majoring students)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate dental hygiene majoring students on employment preparation and job preference. Methods : Subjects were 471 dental hygiene majoring students in Seoul, Gyeonggi-do, Gangwon-do, Daejeon, Chungcheong-do, Busan, and Jeju-do. Except 34 incomplete answers, 437 copies were analyzed. Results : Female accounted for 98.9%. Grade point average(GPA) ranged from 3.5 to 4.0 (38.8%). Most of the students lived in Gyeonggi (20.4%). Out of 364 students, 58.5% had hospital coordinator certificates and 36.3% had computer related certificatse. Those who studied in Gyeongnam wanted to work in Gyeongnam (90.6%), and those who studied in Seoul wanted to work in Seoul (79.7%). These results revealed the same tendencies in Gangwon(56.8%), Gyeonggi(47.6%) and Jeju(39.3%). Except for Chungbuk and Gyeongnam, most students preferred Seoul as a preferable working location (p<0.000). The reason for the preferable working locations included easy commutation (31.0%), higher income (28.5%), and brand value of hospital (22.5%). Most students chose job for easy commutation (44.8%, p<0.000) and welfare benefits (29.6%). Preference for income ranged from 15,000,000~20,000,000 Korean Won including Daejeon (75.0%), Gyeongnam (59.4%), Chungbuk (58.4%), and Jeju (56.7%). Conclusions : It is necessary to implement the various curricula development including future planning and mastery of foreign language education focused on globalization.

병원근무자의 직무만족 요인 분석 (Job Satisfaction of Hospital Employees)

  • Purpose: To identify job satisfaction of hospital employees and the relating factors Methods: The study sample was a total of 1,031 healthcare workers(doctors, nurses, pharmacists, medical engineers, office workers, etc) at a tertiary teaching hospital. The data were collected using a questionnaire developed by a expert group. The questionnaire consisted of 21 items including job characteristics, organizational culture, and personal characteristics on the five Likert scale. Results: The overall satisfaction on job characteristics was 3.24 on the five Likert scale. The satisfaction of each item was 4.14 in role clarity, 3.26 in communication participating rate, 3.10 in work variety, 3.06 in autonomy, and 2.64 in workload. The overall satisfaction on organizational culture was 3.00. Particularly, the satisfaction on collaboration was 3.83, co-worker's support. 3.73, identity, 3.62, education/training opportunity, 3.12, pay, 2.62, welfare, 2.35, promotion, 2.34, and organizational conflict, 2.00. The level of satisfaction on personal characteristics was 3.00. In the satisfaction of each item, the score of disposition was 3.83, contribution to the hospital, 3.75, pride as a member of hospital, 3.70, and attitude on job performance, 3.68. The correlation between satisfaction and other variables was statistically significant with the exception of work variety. The satisfaction related significantly to loyalty index(r=.486, p=.000), autonomy(r=.415, p=.000), pride as a member of hospital(r=.411, p=.000), supervisor support(r=.364, p=.000). Conclusions: The results showed developing organizational strategy to promote job satisfaction can decrease the turnover rate and increase loyalty to the organization. It will contribute to enhance productivity in hospital.

Analysis of Risk Factors of Musculoskeletal Disorder for Child-care Teachers' Job

  • Objective: This study was performed to evaluate the child-care teachers' job in relation to physical work. Background: Child-care teacher is directly related to the quality of child care. And their physical activity is higher than general education teachers because the proportion of day care is high. But analyzes of child-care teachers' job burdens and the work environment associated with physical activity is not well established. Method: To conduct this study, the child-care teachers' job was classified into 18 physical works. After classification, posture was evaluated by ergonomic posture evaluation schemes of OWAS, RULA, REBA and evaluated for each physical part. Next, musculoskeletal subjective symptoms were analyzed. Results: The results showed the following: The highest assessment on the posture evaluation was "helping children to ride a school bus", "feeding: meal/snack", "brushing children's teeth" and "arrangement of nap-stuff". The rank of high-risk assessment on the neck/trunk/leg part was arranged by: "feeding: meal/snack", "helping children to ride a school bus", "making nap", "arrangement nap-stuff" and "brushing children's teeth". The rank of high-risk assessment on the upper limbs part was arranged by: "helping children to ride a school bus", "the bust - group activity", "meal/snack time - preparing, feeding, arrangement", "nap time - preparing, arrangement", "brushing children's teeth", and "using the toilet". According to the results of each musculoskeletal subjective symptom, teachers ordered the pain area as follows: waist, shoulder, leg/feet, and neck, and they showed more pain on trunk than the upper limbs. Conclusion: To sum up the results from ergonomic posture evaluation and a subjective symptom, the following are high working pressures: "feeding: meal/snack", "the bust - group activity", "making nap", "brushing children's teeth" with deep bending and waist twisting, "helping children to ride a school bus", "brushing children's teeth" with lifting shoulder; "meal/snack time - preparing, arrangement", "nap time - preparing, arrangement", and "using the toilet" with moving or an up-down position in their job. Application: The results of this study might be information for improvement of the child-care teachers' job environment.

근로자 안전의식 향상을 위한 안전교육의 필요성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Necessity of Safety Education for Improving the Worker's Safety Awareness)

  • It requires to make the safety education not a merely formal education but as a practical one for the factor of safety on the industrial environment. We surveyed the workers who are working for a power plant-related small and medium sized businesses around Incheon about the necessity of safety education to improve the safety awareness for themselves. The answered workers for the survey are numbered 198, and we can analyzed those questionnaires by using SEM(Structural Equation Modeling). We ran the analysis by the tool of statistics, AMOS19.0. We examined the basic hypothesis that self-efficacy, safety education, and perceived safety influenced on the will for the safety on the job through the attitude of safety on the work as a parametric cause. We can derive a result that self-efficacy and education about safety makes an effect not only on the will for the safety directly, but also through the attitude and perceived safety. Perceived safety does not influenced on the attitude of safety on the work. Education, attitude, and perceived safety show positive influential factors, but self-efficacy represents negative effect directly on the will for the safety. Safety eduction makes more positive effect on the attitude and perception of the safety, and it shows the necessity for the reinforcement.

보육교사의 직무스트레스, 직무환경이 역할수행에 미치는 영향 : 자아탄력성의 조절효과 (The Effects of Child Care Teachers' Job Stress and Work Environment on their Performance of Roles: Focusing on the Regulating Effects of Ego Resilience)

  • 본 연구는 서울과 인천지역의 보육교사를 대상으로 보육교사의 직무스트레스, 직무환경이 역할수행에 미치는 영향에서 자아탄력성의 조절효과를 살펴보고자 하였다. PASW 20.0 통계프로그램을 사용하여 빈도, 백분율, 신뢰도 분석을 실시하였고, 연구문제별로 상관관계분석, 중다회귀분석과 단계적 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 본 연구의 결과를 살펴보면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 보육교사가 지각하고 있는 직무스트레스와 역할수행과는 부적 상관관계, 직무환경, 자아탄력성과 역할수행과는 정적 상관관계가 나타났다. 둘째, 보육교사가 지각한 직무스트레스에는 부적영향을 미치는 요인으로 나타났다. 셋째, 보육교사가 지각한 직무환경인 원장과의 관계, 동료교사와의 관계, 복지환경, 교사전문성 지원, 운영 및 의사결정의 요인이 역할수행에 영향을 미치는 요인으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 보육교사가 지각한 직무환경이 역할수행에 미치는 영향에서 자아탄력성의 조절효과가 나타났으며, 직무스트레스가 역할수행에 미치는 영향에서도 자아탄력성의 조절효과가 나타났다. 이러한 결과에 따라 보육교사의 역할수행능력을 증진시키기 위해서는 보육교사 대상 프로그램이나 승급 교육시 직무스트레스는 낮출 수 있는 프로그램이 반드시 개입되어야 할 것이라 본다. 또한 보육교사의 복지나 처우, 보육환경 등의 직무환경에 대한 개선이 지속적이며, 가시적으로 이루어져야 할 것이라 본다. 나아가 보육교사를 대상으로 하는 개입시 스트레스를 극복하고 적응력을 증진시킬 수 있는 자아탄력성 향상 프로그램이 반드시 제공되어야 할 것이다.
