The Wolseong Wooden moat is a unique example. Which is a vertical wall made of wood. It shows a changing point how to make the wall by digging a hole and stacking stones vertically. This study tried to to make a assumption about the construction process of the wooden structure found in the Wolseong pit moat. I sorted out wooden elements and then analyzing these features and compared with the results of the excavation. After I made 3D modelling in the order to it was made. This moat is not only a function of digging up the ground to trap water, but also a technique of building structures to maintain walls. It is a valuable material that can show the woodworking engineering techniques of the Silla Dynasty.

This research aims to illustrate the structure of the ancient Korean wooden buildings by a comparative study of the historical resources such as stone remains, wall paintings historiographies and excavations. As stone pagodas are the most typical stone remains, I selected for analysis some stone pagodas which contain architectural elements and results of the study are as follows: 1) The number of stories and structural modes of the base stone part show the wooden architectural aspects: they have one or two stories and their base part is constructed in the mode of assembling rectangular stones. 2) The body of the pagoda contains such architectural elements as pillars, door and windows, crossbeams, balcony, bracket sets. 3) The roof of the stone pagoda contains such architectural elements as eaves, roofs and modes of stone assembling. The results inferred through this research could be of help for further comparative studies with the other secondary materials by providing basic knowledge for it.
This study investigated the preservation status of wooden architectural heritages, designated as Chungcheongbuk-do designated heritage in Jecheon. The purpose of this paper is to find the damage cause and the preservation method of wooden architectural heritages. It was conducted using the research methods of the existing literature and field survey to compare a current status of wooden architectural heritages. The result are as followings. Firstly, it was found the problems of a break, a damage, etc. in the platform and the problems of a cracking, an exfoliation, a corrosion, a warp, etc. in the wall. And, it was found a cracking of the beam(梁) and a roof tile(瓦), a falling of Angto(仰土), a sagging roof, etc. in the roof. Secondly, the damage causes of wooden architectural heritages were mostly caused by the physical limitations of the materials. And, it was caused by a rainwater, a subsidence of ground settlement, a destruction of waterproof membrane, etc. Lastly, the repair methods are making a quicklime layer in the soil mound on a cracking and an exfoliation part, a resin treatment or strut operation on a corrosion part of column, etc.
This study is conservation works trend since 1900. Objects for study are National Treasures and Treasures in Buddhism, in wooden architecture. And researched about the factor of conservation works, roof and tile, painting and dissolution conservation works cycle by dissolution, timber change ratio. The factor of conservation works is the most, roof and tile. Conservation works cycle by dissolution is 12.8 years. Painting cycle is 16.3 years. There are two concepts of conservation works, that is restoration and preservation. There are many restoration before 1960's. To 1960's the preservation to be many to 1970's many Restoration. And since the end of 1970's is Preservation. These reasons are conservation works history of object, the rule for Heritage protection, people on works, and study of architecture. history.

This research explores about the construction process and provision of Japanese Wooden Houses. Even though Prefabricated Houses appeared during the 1960's and the Platform Construction System during the 1970's, there was still a high demand for Conventional Wooden House, with a high demand by households on their 30's. These features were found in the areas of Hokkaido, Kyushu, Tokyo, and Osaka. Tokyo and capital region accommodate large number of the head offices of companies that produce Platform Construction System houses, and thus supply the largest amount of Platform Construction System houses. In capital region, land prices are so high, that they build houses as 3-Floors or above, and also driven by high cost of house construction, house performances are excellent. The houses of Osaka and Kinki region demonstrate similar characteristics to those of capital region. Osaka is headquartered by a group of head offices of companies that produce prefabricated houses, and thus holds more amount of prefabricated house supply than other regions. This city also shows high cost of house construction no less than capital region, and thus offers outstanding performance of house. In Kyushu, whereas Japanese wooden house building systems are supplied the most, Platform Construction System houses are provided the least in the nation. As this region offers rich amount of forest resources owing to mild humid climate which is ideal for vegetations, the Japanese wooden building systems use the timbers from this region. Hokkaido, a cold region, requires houses that offer outstanding performance of heat insulation. Therefore, Hokkaido shows more supplies of Platform Construction System houses that offers outstanding heat insulation performance. They import the timbers that form the structure framework of Platform Construction System houses from North America.

The purpose of this study was to propose the categorized checklist for fire risk assessment on the wooden cultural properties and to carry out field survey. The survey checklist was composed of categories such as management and administration measures(management, training and countermeasure), architectural planning measures(site plan and facility plan), and equipment measures(fire-fighting and crime prevention facility). In this study, the field survey was carried out in the Nae-jang-sa and Wha-um-sa and it was found that there were some problems in the items which were assessed importantly by experts.
This Study is concerned with the color design of Korean and Japanese wooden architecture. The main subject of the study is to investigate the commonness and difference of color decoration between Korean and Japanese Buddhist 'Danchung' in the modern ages. In carrying this study into execution, I examined the architectural and historical backgrounds, and analysed the elements, techniques and principles of color design. The result of this study is as follows ; 1. 'Danchung' was originated from the practical functions in Chinese wooden architecture, and developed to embody sensuous beauty in Buddhist temple. The techniques and principles of color design and color tone of Korean and japanese Danchung had been similar in the ancient ages. But little by little they have differed in its function and color tone. So they are very different in modern times. 2. The dominant colors of Korean Danchung are red and green as 'Sang-nok Ha-dan(上綠下丹)', but Japanese's is only red as 'Bak-gan Juk-sun(白間赤線)' 3. Korean Danchung expresses and accentuates the important structural elements in three dimensions, on the other hand japanese Danchung takes two dimensional decoration on the unstructural elements 4. When seen in general, in Korean Danchung colors and their light and shade are simple and patternized. In the meantime, Japanese Danchung has many configurational expressions in general and is closed to paintings or picture.
History of architecture technology is the area where further studies are the most needed in Korean architecture history. This present study deals with architectural tools and woodworking of Baekje as a first step in exploration of Korean architecture technology history especially, that of Baekje dynasty. Based on the study of real artifacts and archeological sites showing the trace of tool use, function and forms of architectural tools were classified, characteristics of tools investigated, and woodworking technology analyzed. The main tools of analysis include Square, Black Inkpot, Hatchet, Saw, Chisel, Wood Hammer, Axe, and Plane. It is assumed that architectural technology during Baekje dynasty might have leapt into the new stage thanks to the regular use of iron tools. Compared to those of previous eras, iron tools of Baekje are more elaboratedly-designed and well-defined in function. In addition, wooden architectural tools from Baekje demonstrate the superiority of its woodworking technology Historical record also shows the fact that craftsman from Baekje participated in construction of temples of Shilla and Japan. Precise assessment of Baeje architecture technology is difficult because no Baekje wooden architecture is still remaining. The facts mentioned above, however, surely prove the excellence of architecture technology of Baekje.
Traditional architecture has structural limits after some terms because it almost made by wood elements. So in the name of 'Restoration', by anatural process, repair works are accomplished. But the repair works of traditional buildings have some problems in spite of best men power and technology. To overcome this problems, we need more detailed studies for examine the reasons of destruction in elements of wooden buildings. The life limits of wooden buildings are caused by natural circumstances and humanic circumstances, the former has bad effect on the damage in wooden buildings. There are various elements of damage in the wooden buildings, earthquake, the falling of a thunderbolt, fire, and rain, microorganism, insect, and so on. Moreover pollutions-sulfurous acid gas, acidorganic matters -are important reason of shortening the life of wooden buildings. From 1981 till now we investigated important traditional buildings under repair works by the way scientific analysis to catch the sample - seramics, woods, insects, metals, etc. In this reports we suggest various method of investigation with two samples of tradional house made by wood, one is Kim Joo Tea House, the order is Simgum-dang of Magok-Sa(dwelling of monk).
The bracket sets which are supporting the weight of the roof, has to meet both requirements which are structural functions and act as an ornamental element. Therefore the bracket sets differ in many types from time and space and has done an important role in the history of architecture with many studies being presented. The first form of the bracket set has been found in the bronze table relics in zhong shan wang ling (中山王陵). Through the Eastern Han dynasty (A.D. 25-220) it became more specific in the shique (石闕) and huaxiangshi (畵像石) in the Han dynasty (206 B.C.-A.D. 220). Afterwards, as Buddhism was introduced to China, the bracket construction techniques shown in the Mogao Caves, Yungang Grottoes, and Longmen Grottoes has given much help for understanding the building techniques of wooden architecture. Especially the Xia-ang structure seen in the Mogao caves shows a vast development in wooden structure and a typical building would be the main hall of Fo Guang Shan monastery in Mt. Wutaishan from the Tang dynasty (A.D. 618-907). This accumulated techniques is inscribed in the 'Ying Zao Fa Shi (營造法式)' wooden structure designs which was published during the Northern Song dynasty (A.D. 960-1127) and many buildings were constructed following this technique after the publication. During this period, it is assumed that Baek-jae (B.C.18-A.D.660) in the Korean peninsula also used the Xia-ang technique, but there havn't been many studies on this field. In this thesis it is introducing the development of the building techniques and structural features of the Xia-ang wooden architecture during the Tang and Song dynasty.
