The extraction of third molars is a common task carried out at dental/surgery clinics. Postoperative pain is one of the two most common complications of this surgery, along with dry socket. Knowledge of the frequent risk factors of this complication is useful in determining high-risk patients, planning treatment, and preparing the patients mentally. Since the risk factors for postoperative pain have never been summarized before while the risk factors for dry socket have been highly debated, this report summarizes the literature regarding the common predictors of postextraction pain. Except for surgical difficulty and the surgeon's experience, the influences of other risk factors (age, gender and oral contraceptive use) were rather inconclusive. The case of a female gender or oral contraceptive effect might mainly be associated with estrogen levels (when it comes to dry socket), which can differ considerably from case to case. Improvement in and unification of statistical and diagnostic methods seem necessary. In addition, each risk factor was actually a combination of various independent variables, which should instead be targeted in more comprehensive studies.

The effect of ISO 9000 jcertification for quality management is investigated. 213 domestic manufacturing companies which had been certified more than one and half year ago were selected to send the questionnaires for a field survey. Among them 89 were returned. Crosby's Quality Management Maturity Grid' is utilized for analyzing the effect of ISO 9000 certification aquistion. Comparisons for the QM maturity level are made between before- and after-aquisition. It is shown that, on the average, the QM maturity level had been increased from awakening (stage 2) to the mid point of enlightenment(stage 3) and wisdom(stage 4).

A Monte Carlo simulation based on Potts model in a three dimensional lattice was studied to analyze and design microstructures in porous sintered compacts such as porosity, pore size, grain (particle) size and contiguity of grains. The effect of surface energy of particles and the content of additional fine particles to coarse particles on microstructure development were examined to obtain fundamentals for material design in porous materials. It has been found that the larger surface energy enhances sintering (necking) of particles and increases contiguity and surface energy does not change pore size and grain size. The addition of fine particles also enhances sintering of particles and increases contiguity, but it has an effect on increment of pore size and grain size. Such a simulation technique can give us important information or wisdom for design of porous materials, e.g., material system with high surface energy and fine particle audition are available for higher strength and larger porosity in porous sintered compacts with applications in an automobile.

본 논문에서는 한국어 단어를 산출하는 과정에서 음절 내 부호화 과정을 규명하기 위해 2개의 단어번역과제 실험을 수행하였다. 한국어 산출에서 종성점화효과를 검증한 실험 1에서 종성 반복 조건과 통제조건 간에 단어번역시간에서 차이를 보이지 않았다. 반면에 실험 2에서는 11ms의 부적인 중성점화효과를 보였다. 구민모와 남기춘(2009)과 본 연구의 결과를 종합하면, 다음과 같은 결론에 도달한다: (1) 한국어 산출 어휘집에서 음절은 "음절체+종성"의 위계적인 내적 구조로 표상된다. (2) 음절 내 부호화는 음절체와 종성이 계열적인 순서로 진행된다. (3) 음절체를 구성하는 초성과 중성이 계열적인 순서로 음절구조에 삽입된다.

Many studies of experimental economics have produced outcomes which contradict the predictions of Nash equilibrium, which relies heavily upon the premise of selfishness of an individual. In the games involving contexts of social conflicts represented by the prisoners' dilemma game, the experiments yields outcomes quite different from what are predicted by the conventional wisdom. In order to fill this gap between the conventional Nash Equilibrium and experimental outcomes, non-selfish (or other-regarding) motives of human behavior are introduced and then a new equilibrium concept, RAE-equilibrium is developed. It is also proved that an RAE-equilibrium exists under quite general conditions. Then it is applied to the prisoners' dilemma game that some of the experimental outcomes can be explained.

The permanent second molars, erupted about 12-13 years old, are finally erupted except wisdom teeth. Although they are likely to be excluded in the orthodontic treatment because located in the most posterior area of the dentition, about twenty percents of the orthodontic patients have abnormal occlusion of the permanent second molars, and we usually observed the malalignment of the permanent second molars in the finished case without including this teeth. These permanent second molars should be necessarily corrected by orthodontic appliances for the dynamic-normal occlusion. Moreover, according to the previously mentioned treatment philosophy, there are clear advantages in the cases which the permanent second molars were used for anchorage source, and this has been proposed convincingly by many authers. Therefore it is reasonable that orthodontists determine to include the permanent second molars among orthodontic treatment, but particular cases.

The purpose of this thesis is to make clear the symbolism expressed by the gorgeous costume elements in the portraits of Elizabeth 1. After English paintings in 16th century and the Portraits of Elizabeth I being investigated in view of its characteristics, the symbolism in the costume of the portraits was studied in analysis. The flowers, the pearls and the sieve denoting a pure virgin predominantly appeared, snake for discretion and wisdom, phoenix for eternal youth and renewal, pelican for motherhood, and eyes and ears for almightiness and sound judgement as an utmost power was found. The color was mainly of black or white and sometimes of these two mixtures. The white means a purity and black, eternity and the mixture of them signifies a virtue of purity. This thesis may help people understand the gorgeous costume of Elizabeth 1. not as an external extravagance, but as an internal emblem or signs delivering its specific significance.

This paper describes a methodology for conducting Community Nutrition research with rather than on people in a community to generate grounded theory. This collaborative grounded theory methodology incorporates local knowledge and wisdom and builds community leadership capacity through engaging community-based professionals and para-professionals in the research process. In addition to building capacity for participation and leadership in research, education and action, this approach can increase the validity and value of the research and facilitate its application in community led programs. The methodology has five components: background, study design, data gathering, data analysis and interpretation, and application of findings in community programming. Three stages of the data analysis component focus sequentially on each interview independently, comparing across interviews, and systematically testing theory developed in the first two.

The dominant academic literature about trade agreements maintains that they are only about national terms-of-trade manipulation and not at all about purely political concerns. Non-academic economists, commentators, and diplomats by contrast think that trade agreements are all about political concerns. There are two substantive and important distinctions between the two views. i Practitioners maintain that policymakers care virtually not at all about the terms of trade or about trade-tax revenue. ii Practitioners, unlike academics, maintain that trade-agreement negotiations themselves change the underlying political economy. Observation of actual trade policy measures, though not conclusive, suggests that the practitioners are right and that the academics are wrong.

Groundwater has been a very precious resource for human life and economic development in the world. With increasing population and food demand, the groundwater use especially for agriculture is largely elevated worldwide. The very much large groundwater use results in depletion of major aquifers, land subsidences in many large cities, anthropogenic groundwater contamination, seawater intrusion in coastal areas and accompanying severe conflicts for water security. Furthermore, with the advent of changing climate, securing freshwater supply including groundwater becomes a pressing and critical issue for sustainable societal development in every country because prediction of precipitation is more difficult, its uneven distribution is aggravating, weather extremes are more frequent, and rising sea level is also threatening the freshwater resource. Under these difficulties, can groundwater be sustaining its role as essential element for human and society in the near future? We have to focus our efforts and wisdom on answering the question. Korean government should increase its investment in securing groundwater resources for changing climate.
