Anomaly Detection in Medical Wireless Sensor Networks

  • In this paper, we propose a new framework for anomaly detection in medical wireless sensor networks, which are used for remote monitoring of patient vital signs. The proposed framework performs sequential data analysis on a mini gateway used as a base station to detect abnormal changes and to cope with unreliable measurements in collected data without prior knowledge of anomalous events or normal data patterns. The proposed approach is based on the Mahalanobis distance for spatial analysis, and a kernel density estimator for the identification of abnormal temporal patterns. Our main objective is to distinguish between faulty measurements and clinical emergencies in order to reduce false alarms triggered by faulty measurements or ill-behaved sensors. Our experimental results on both real and synthetic medical datasets show that the proposed approach can achieve good detection accuracy with a low false alarm rate (less than 5.5%).

  • 최근 전국 지방자치단체 관내 마을 단위 근거리 방송에 기존의 케이블 형태의 유선방송이 아닌 무선통신을 사용하고자 하는 수요가 늘고 있다. 이에 본 논문에서는 국내원천 기술인 Binary CDMA 기술을 활용하여 마을단위 원격 방송 및 관제 시스템을 상용화하기 위한 방법들을 제시한다. 주요 연구 내용은 마을단위 환경에 운용될 수 있도록 다중액세스 기술, TDMA 기반의 스케쥴링 기술, 통신거리 확장을 위한 릴레이 기술, 동적 채널 할당 기술이다. 위의 기술들을 활용하여 다양한 마을의 형태에 따라 네트워크 토폴로지 운용이 가능하고 QoS를 보장하는 시스템을 구현할 수 있다.

  • Modem Industrial control systems tend to adopt a variety of intelligent wireless device controllers to interface front-end computers with active components of the industrial device. Some of the intelligent control systems come equipped with a wireless SMS(Simple Message Service) interface giving an opportunity to use fault alarm Interlock system. Immediately send warning or alert messages to Mobile devices or remote users. Real time monitoring the SMS systems by Mobile devices. Control systems remotely by mobile devices in emergency situation. In order to provide against system fault, SMS Mobile System will enable system administrator to promptly access, monitor and control the system whenever users want and wherever users are, by utilizing wireless Internet and mobile devices.   • IEEE 802.15.4 specification which defines low-rate wireless personal area network(LR-WPAN) has application to home or building automation, remote control and sensing, intelligent management, environmental monitoring, and so on. Recently, it has been considered as an alternative technology to provide multimedia services such as automation via voice recognition, wireless headset and wireless camera for surveillance. In order to evaluate capability of voice traffic on the IEEE 802.15.4 LR-WPAN, we supposed two scenarios, voice traffic only and coexistence of voice and sensing traffic. For both cases we examined delay and packet loss rate in case of with and without acknowledgement, and various beacon period varying with beacon and superframe order values. In LR-WPAN with voice devices only, total 5 voice devices could be applicable and in the other case, i.e., coexisted cases of voice and sensor devices, a voice device was able to coexist with about 60 sensor devices.

  • In this paper, the module for measuring SpO2 and PPG(Photo Plethysmo Graphy) signal of human body and the module for wireless communication of these bio-signals to PC were developed. The program was developed to display transmitted SpO2 and PPG signal by various type data and graph without information loss during a emergency transfer. This system can be utilized as appropriate for remote medical care and a new market is expected, to be created according to revision of medical law.

  • It is essential to investigate the structure and the main characteristics of BSN (Bio-Sensor Network) platform in built smart healthcare environment while designing healthy housing facilities. For this study, WSN (Wireless Sensor Network) data transmission technologies have been employed with medical sensors, and optimal medical devices would provide various Web 2.0 services by connecting to the WiBro network. The BSN platform normally recognizes in surroundings of WBAN (Wireless Body Area Network) or WPAN (Wireless Personal Area Network), and it is possible to manage sensor nodes by utilizing SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) and REST (REpresentational State Transfer). In addition, the feature of SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) for mobile gateway is also included for being adapted to huge network structure. Finally, BSN platform will play a role as important clues for developing personal WSN service models for smart healthy housing properties.

  • A wireless sensor network (WSN) is a wireless network consisting of spatially distributed autonomous devices using sensors to cooperatively monitor physical or environmental conditions, such as temperature, sound, vibration, pressure, motion at different locations. Environmental monitoring represent a class of sensor network applications with enormous potential benefits for scientific communities and society. In this paper we design and implement a novel platform for sensor networks to be used for monitoring of temperature, humidity, and light sensors.

  • Nowadays the role of information systems is getting more and more increased according to the development of information technology. In order to manage complex, various and huge data, it is vital to construct efficient information system. For this effective information system, data have properly to be stored, encoded and represented when needed. This paper presents equipment management information system using wireless application protocol. This system enables us to have remote control of data searching and data management. Also, through the technique of data mining, database resulted from this system can be utilized into expectation and analysis about life-cycle, characteristic, and failure time of equipment, pattern recognition of users, and state of movement, etc.

  • Packet loss compensation techniques are increasingly important to stable remote control over wireless communication in WNCS (Wireless Networked Control Systems). Its time varying channels, limited bandwidth, interference, and poor signal not only leads to packet loss or latency, but also can negatively affect performance and system stability. This paper presents a compensation technique exploiting an EWMA (Exponentially Weighed Moving Average)-based value estimator to clarify the influence of packet loss on the overall WNCS behavior. As an example of actuator to be remotely controlled, a rotary-type inverted pendulum has been considered, and modeled. Performance evaluation results through Matlab/Simulink and Truetime co-simulation confirm the superiority of the proposed value estimation method over previous approaches.
