Rapid-to-deploy reconfigurable wireless structural monitoring systems using extended-range wireless sensors

  • Wireless structural monitoring systems consist of networks of wireless sensors installed to record the loading environment and corresponding response of large-scale civil structures. Wireless monitoring systems are desirable because they eliminate the need for costly and labor intensive installation of coaxial wiring in a structure. However, another advantageous characteristic of wireless sensors is their installation modularity. For example, wireless sensors can be easily and rapidly removed and reinstalled in new locations on a structure if the need arises. In this study, the reconfiguration of a rapid-to-deploy wireless structural monitoring system is proposed for monitoring short- and medium-span highway bridges. Narada wireless sensor nodes using power amplified radios are adopted to achieve long communication ranges. A network of twenty Narada wireless sensors is installed on the Yeondae Bridge (Korea) to measure the global response of the bridge to controlled truck loadings. To attain acceleration measurements in a large number of locations on the bridge, the wireless monitoring system is installed three times, with each installation concentrating sensors in one localized area of the bridge. Analysis of measurement data after installation of the three monitoring system configurations leads to reliable estimation of the bridge modal properties, including mode shapes.

  • The structural health monitoring has been gaining more importance in civil engineering areas such as earthquake and wind engineering. The use of health monitoring system can also provide tools for the validation of structural analytical model. However, only few structures such as historical buildings and some important long bridges have been instrumented with structural monitoring system due to high cost of installation, long and complicated installation of system wires. In this paper, the structural monitoring system based on cheap and wireless monitoring system is investigated. The use of advanced technology of micro-electro-mechanical system(MEMS) and wireless communication can reduce system cost and simplify the installation. Further the application of wireless MEMS system can provide enhanced system functionality and due to low noise densities. Identification results are compared to ones using data measured from traditional accelerometers and results indicate that the system identification using wireless MEMS system estimates system parameters accurately.

  • The electrical safety and efficiency is the most important thing of the electric vehicle charging system. The prior system is contact charging system that is contacted directly by human. So, it has riskiness such as electric shock in the case of poor insulation or contact problems. To solve these safety issues and the convenience problems, a wireless power transmission system has been developed and is currently in trial operation. However, because high frequency is used in wireless power transmission system instead of commercial frequency, we need to apply protection measures concerning electric shock and equipment protection. Also, it should be accompanied by measuring efficiency for the effective operation of the wireless power transmission system. Therefore, we structured monitoring system in trial operation area of wireless power transmission system and applied decision algorithm for protection of human and equipment and economic operation of it.

  • 본 논문에서는 함정 전투체계 소프트웨어 설치 시 발생 가능한 데이터 이상을 확인하는 설치 방안을 제안한다. 최근 저궤도 위성 통신과 같은 무선 통신을 이용한 정보교환 방법이 대중화되며, 함정 전투체계에서도 무선망을 이용한 여러 활용 방안이 논의되고 있다. 활용 방안 중 하나로서 무선망 통신을 이용한 설치를 함정 전투체계에 적용함으로써 실시간으로 전투체계 성능을 향상시킬 수 있는 방법이 가능해질 것으로 기대한다. 하지만 무선망의 경우 유선망보다 상대적으로 보안상 취약하므로 더 많은 보안 대책이 강구된다. 본 논문에서는 암호화 방식을 통해 다수의 노드에 파일을 전송하고 파일 설치 이후 유효성 검사를 수행함으로써, 전송 도중 위/변조 여부를 판단하여 정상적으로 설치됨을 확인한다. 제안한 방법의 함정 전투체계 적용 가능성을 보이기 위하여 전송 성능 및 보안성, 안정성 등을 평가하였으며, 이를 바탕으로 함정 전투체계에 적용하기 충분한 수준의 결과물을 도출하였다.

유무선통합화재감지시스템 성능에 관한 연구 (A Study on Performance of the Wire/Wireless Integration Fire Detection System)

  • 본 연구에서는 화재로 인하여 발생되는 연기 또는 열을 무선화재감지기에서 감지하여, 유선이 아닌 무선장치를 이용하여 수신장치까지 전송하고, 이 감지신호를 유선을 통하여 메인서버로 전송하는 유무선통합감지시스템을 제안한다. 또한 무선 열/연감지기, 무선모듈, 펌웨어, 유무선통합수신반 등을 개발하였으며, 유무선장치의 성능과 실용성에 관한 검증을 위하여 송신탑, 주상복합건물, 지하철역사 등에서 실제 현장적용 실험을 수행하였다. 실험결과, 제안한 시스템은 모든 실험대상물에서 정상적으로 동작하였으며 향후 현장적용이 가능함을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • 승강기내 무선통화는 인명의 안전 및 보안성을 위해 필요하며 현재 이를 위해 다양한 통신설비 설치방법이 사용되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 승강기내 이동전화를 가능하기 위한 구내선로설비의 설치방법을 비교 분석하고 이에 대한 제도적 정비방향에 대해서도 같이 논하기로 한다.

  • In this paper, resonant wireless power transfer systems are designed with double loop resonant coils for the resonant frequency of 150kHz. The transfer efficiency characteristics is analyzed according to the coil size, and the distance and misalignment between the coils. Then the change in efficiency is investigated when a human model is located between the resonant coils using the homogeneous human phantom of IEC-62311 standard. Also, in order to assess the safety of the wireless power transfer system, the induced current density inside the human model is calculated when it is exposed to the magnetic field of a plane wave and resonant coil. Then, the results are compared with the exposure limits in the EMF (electromagnetic field) safety guidelines.

Call Admission Control in Wireless Ad-hoc Networks with Multiple Channels and Radios

  • In this paper, an Ad-hoc Routing Protocol that works in wireless Ad-hoc communication networks with multiple radios and multiple channels and that controls call admission based on bandwidth measurement is proposed. Unlike the conventional Ad-hoc node with a single radio using a single channel, an Ad-hoc node of the protocol proposed, the MCQosR(Multiple Channel Quality of Service Routing), has multiple radios and uses multiple channels, which allows full duplex transmission between wireless Ad-hoc nodes, and reduces intra interference on the route. Also, a fixed channel only for reception at each node enables the estimation of the available bandwidth, which is used to control the call admission for QoS provision. The performance of the MCQosR was verified by simulation.

  • 자동차 후방카메라 시스템은 후진시 차량 후방을 모니터 영상으로 보여주어 인명보호와 주차의 편리, 운전자의 안전 운전을 위한 다양한 서비스를 제공한다. 본 논문에서는 우리나라가 독자 개발한 개인용 무선통신 Binary CDMA 신기술을 이용하여 설치가 자유롭고 설치비용과 기술료를 절감할 수 있는 자동차 후방카메라 시스템의 개발방법 및 설계에 관해 연구하였다.

  • This paper gives a basic data of improving the performance of railroad signalling equipment by adopting GPS and wireless telecommunication technologies. These approach enable the moving block control of train, which can optimize train operation by reducing the distance between trains and maximize the railroad capacity. These method of detecting train position and controling train movement can also improve the train route control at stations.
