  • Numerical analysis and experimental verification of a thermal liquid mass flow meter (LMFM) were performed. The configuration of the LMFM was the same as a gas mass flow meter (GMFM), but the opposite results in temperature difference between upstream and downstream thermistors occurred. In the case of the gas, the convection depending on the flow of thermal mass was small and comparable to the conduction through the sensor tube wall. The temperature difference was proportional to the mass flow rate due to their interaction. For the liquid flow, the convection overwhelmed the wall conduction because of the large flow of thermal mass caused by high density. The temperature difference in this case was inversely proportional to the mass flow rate. The tube diameter and heater wiring width are important design parameters, and the optimized sensor can be used to measure and control the infinitesimal liquid flow rate.

  • The long line fishing machine is combined with motor and two disc rollers has used on the small size fishing-boat under 1 ton located in near Jeollanam-do seaside. The long line fishing motor is controlled only one direction because the fishing line is loaded heavily at pulling up. On this paper we made the long line fishing 400W power motor controller which it was usually applied under 1 ton fishing boat, and designed the controller using PWM chip, Half bridge driver and MOSFET for one direction motor control. Furthermore some user convenience devices were added like battery indicator and safety protection circuit for battery overdischarge and battery source wire mismatch connection. So we protected the battery from overdicharging when the battery voltage was below 11.5V and fishermen didn't need to worry about source lines misconnection anymore. We confirmed the test version of controller was the good working condition at land and sea.

  • In this study, we proposed a new-type of circular perforated caisson breakwater consisting of a bundle of latticed blocks that can be applied to a small port such as a fishing port, and numerically investigated the hydraulic characteristics of the breakwater. The numerical method used in this study is OLAFOAM which newly added wave generation module, porous media analysis module and reflected wave control module based on OpenFOAM that is open source CFD software published under the GPL license. To investigate the applicability of OLAFOAM, the variations of wave pressure acting on the three-dimensional slit caisson were compared to the previous experimental results under the regular wave conditions, and then the performance for irregular waves was examined from the reproducibility of the target irregular waves and frequency spectrum analysis. As a result, a series of numerical simulations for the new-type of circular perforated caisson breakwaters, which is similar to slit caisson breakwater, was carried out under the irregular wave actions. The hydraulic characteristics of the breakwater such as wave overtopping, reflection, and wave pressure distribution were carefully investigated respect to the significant wave height and period, the wave chamber width, and the interconnectivity between them. The numerical results revealed that the wave pressure acting on the new-type of circular perforated caisson breakwaters was considerably smaller than the result of the impermeable vertical wall computed by the Goda equation. Also, the reflection of the new-type caisson breakwater was similar to the variation range of the reflection coefficient of the existing slit caisson breakwater.

  • This study is for discrimination between asbestiform and non-asbestiform based on size characteristics of tremolite-actinolite fibers in soils from a closed asbestos mine, Jecheon, Chungcheongbuk-do, Korea. Soils and tremolite asbestos rocks were collected from a closed asbestos mine area. The dimensions of fibers with minimum $5{\mu}m$ in length and 3:1 in aspect ratio were measured using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and compared to the known tremolite populations ranging from asbestiform to non-asbestiform. The geometric means of width of soils, asbestos rocks and National Institute for Standard and Technology (NIST) and Health and Safety Laboratory (HSL) reference samples were $1.2{\mu}m$, $0.3-0.6{\mu}m$, $1.3{\mu}m$ and $0.2{\mu}m$, respectively. The geometric means of aspect ratio of soils, asbestos rocks and NIST and HSL reference samples were 7.3, 13.7-30.1, 7.2 and 37.8, respectively. The population of tremolite-actinolite fibers from soils compared to known asbestiform and non-asbestiform tremolite was lack of thin and high aspect ratio fibers. Upper results suggest that tremolite-actinolite fibers in soils cannot be classified into a commercial grade asbestos. The tremolite-actinolite fibers do not mainly appear to be the result of contamination from distance asbestos sources by wind. For the management and control of asbestos in soils, size distributions of amphiboles should be incorporated into asbestos survey results of soils.

  • A solid of Thermophilic Aerobic Oxidation(TAO) System was mixed with sawdust or a rice husks. After fermentation was finished, molding machine and a dryer were used, and pellet fertilizer was produced. The fertilizing experiment was carried out as five pieces by Bed soil, TAO solid(TAO-S), TAO pellet fertilizer(TAO-PF), Chemical fertilizer(NPK) and Control(no fertilizer). Growth rate of the Chinese cabbage by each treatment was examined. Analysis of microbe and soil characteristic before and after crop experiment were carried out. When the moisture contents of TAO-PF were $18\%$ and $25\%$, the occurrence rate of microbes for the storage time was increased to $80\%$ and $100\%$ respectively. However, in the $12\%$ of water content treatment was not increased microbes. The concentration of soil bacteria in TAO-PF and TAO-S for 15 day after treatment was $1.5\times10^7\~8.0\times10^7$ CFU/ml, and the concentration of bacteria for 50 day was increased to $6.3\times10^7$ and $8.3\times10^7$ CFU/ml. However, Fungus decreased. The concentration of Actinomycetes was increased in TAO solid, Bed soil and TAO-PF treatment. The TAO-S and TAO-PF treatment were normal to compare to the NPK treatment. In this experiment the height and width of the Chinese cabbage were 22.3 cm, 16.8 cm in Bed soil and 28.8 cm, 21.3 cm in TAO solid. The leaf number of TAO-S, TAO-PF and NPK treatment were similar to 39.8, 38.3, 40.3 sheet. As the result, the TAO-PF knew that use was possible with fertilizer.

  • The present study investigated the possibility of applying the fermented swine liquid manure handled with TAO system to hydroponic cultivation. The fermented swine liquid manure (FLM) used for the study was in low concentration of phosphoric acid (P). Hence, when doing hydroponic cultivation, the concentration of P and K was supplemented. The concentrations of N, P, and K in compensated FLMs were as fellows; (a) N 58mg/1, P 0.5mg/1 and K 31 mg/1 for FLM-1, (b) N 58mg/1, P 31 mg/l and K 39mg/1 for FLM-2, and (c) N 58mg/1, P 31 mg/1 and K 61 mg/1 for FLM-3, respectively. For hydroponic cultivation, it was possible to use diluted solution by 100 times through experiment of germination index. According to the experiment using lettuce, the compensated FLMs with P and K were superior in leaf width, yield and dry weight to FLM without any treatment. Therefore, it is necessary to supplement some nutrition before applying. In conclusion, it is highly estimated that the fermented swine liquid manure can be ap-plied to hydroponic cultivation. It is also necessary to conduct further researches related to nutritional compensation depending on the vegetables.

  • Seven post-tensioned lightweight concrete (LWC) beam specimens were tested under a symmetrical two-point top loading system. The parameters investigated were the amounts of mild longitudinal reinforcement and effective prestressing. The design compressive strength and dry density of the LWC tested were 30 MPa and 1,770 $kg/m^3$, respectively. Similar to post-tensioned normal weight concrete (NWC) beams, the crack propagation and stress increase of the unbonded tendons were significantly affected by the amounts of mild longitudinal reinforcement and effective prestressing. With the increase in the amounts of mild longitudinal reinforcement and effective prestressing, the serviceability and flexural capacity of the beams were enhanced whereas the stress increase in the unbonded tendons decreased. To control the crack width in post-tensioned LWC beams, a minimum amount of mild longitudinal reinforcement specified in ACI 318-08 provision is required. The flexural behavior of post-tensioned LWC beams and stress increase of the unbonded tendons could be rationally predicted by the proposed non-linear two-dimensional analysis. On the other hand, ACI 318-08 flexure provision was too conservative about the post-tensioned LWC beams.

  • To avoid abrupt torsional failure due to concrete crushing before yielding of torsional reinforcement and control the diagonal crack width, design codes specify the limitations on the yield strength of torsional reinforcement of RC members. In 2012, Korean Concrete Institute design code increased the allowable maximum yield strength of torsional reinforcement from 400 MPa to 500 MPa based on the analytical and experimental research results. Although there are many studies regarding the shear behavior of RC members with high strength stirrups, limited studies of the RC members regarding the yield strength of torsional reinforcement are available. In this study, twelve RC beams having different yield strength of torsional reinforcement and compressive strength of concrete were tested. The experimental test results indicated that the torsional failure modes of RC beams were influenced by the yield strength of torsional reinforcement and the compressive strength of concrete. The test beams with normal strength torsional reinforcement showed torsional tension failure, while the test beams with high strength torsional reinforcement greater than 480 MPa showed torsional compression failure. Therefore, additional analytical and experimental works on the RC members subjected to torsion, especially the beams with high strength torsional reinforcement, are needed to find an allowable maximum yield strength of torsional reinforcement.

  • This study was carried out to determine the effects of shading and leaf mold treatment on growth characteristics and photosynthesis responses of Peucedanum japonicum in forest farming. It is very valuable as a sort of health food, so that the demand for the vegetable has increased recently. The experiment can not only increase the yield but also contribute to the development of eco-friendly technology for high-quality P. japonicum. It was performed by shading treatments (full sunlight, 35%, 50% and 75% shading) and leaf mold treatments (control, pine tree and chestnut tree). Height, stem diameter, root collar diameter, number of stem and dry weight were the highest in chestnut-leaf mold under full sunlight. Leaf area, leaf length and leaf width were the highest in chestnut-leaf mold under 35% shading. Photosynthetic rate, conductance to $H_2O$, transpiration rate and water use efficiency were the highest in chestnut-leaf mold under full sunlight. Specially, photosynthetic rate was higher under chestnut-leaf mold in all shading treatment, and getting lower in the higher shading rate. As a result of surveying the whole experiment, it is concluded that P. japonicum grows nicely by maintaining 35% shading under chestnutleaf mold in forest farming. Thus, it is the most effective way to increase the yield for high-quality P. japonicum with eco-friendly technology.
