ECT(eddy currentign testing) is very effective technique to detect a flaw within a conductor. Co-based amorphous wire was used as a sensor head. The wire has almost 0 magneto-striction and high permeability. An uniform magnetic field was applied to 1mm thick copper plate and $25{\mu}m$ thick aluminum sheet conductor using spiral typed coil The size of the coil has $40mm{\times}40mm$ outer width and $8mm{\times}8mm$ inner width. The copper plate and aluminum sheet has 0.5mm and 0.1mm wide gap, respectively. The frequency range of applied field was 100kHz-600kHz. The induced voltage difference of 2.5mV was obtained in the maximum voltage and minimum one measured across the gap of the 1mm thick conductor. In the case of aluminum sheet, 0.4mV was obtained. From this results, the effectiveness of Co-based amorphous wire was confirmed in the ECT technique.
The structure of a ship is completed by processing various steel plates and welding these plates. This butt welding of plates is defined as a seam in shipyards, and this study seeks to find a way to decrease costs by reducing the utilization of steel through effective seam arrangement. Seams were defined and classified according to purpose, and examples of "pieces" and "main plates" where seam creation had an economical saving effect were selected. For "pieces," the change in the weight of steel utilized depending on the presence or absence of a seam was calculated, and the resulting change in cost increase was presented. In the case of the "main plate," the quantity of seams does not change, but an example of cost variation due to the appropriate placement of seams is presented. Hence, a large difference was found in the costs of "pieces" depending on seam location. Thus, it was advantageous to create additional seams. For the "main plate," it was found that narrow-width and wide-width materials incur more costs. This study demonstrates that creating seams is economically advantageous but may not be preferred owing to the increased workload from a production perspective.
This study, as basic research which was intended to develope the surface reinforcement method using reinforcement material which is applicable to very soft ground in Korea, was aimed at proposing the design parameter for the surface ground improvement method. To that end, a wide width tensile test using geotextile, geogrid and steel bar (substitute for bamboo) and 49 kinds of the laboratory model tests were conducted. And the result the study suggested $\beta_s$, the stiffness coefficient to evaluate the stiffness effect of reinforcement materials. Then, it was also found that the stiffness coefficient, $\beta_s$ as the testing constant would be appropriate as high as 1.0, 1.1 and 1.5 for geotextile, geogrid and steel bar, respectively. And It was evaluated that the stiffness effect affecting reinforcement improvement effect would be reduced as the thickness of embeded depth increases and that RFe, the stiffness effect reduction coefficient would have positive correlation with H/B. Finally, it was confirmed that the bearing capacity gained from the method to calculate bearing capacity, which was suggested in the study, would almost correctly estimate the capacity, demonstrating the appropriateness of the proposed bearing capacity calculation method.
The factors affecting the long-term design strength of geogrid can be classified into factors on creep deformation, installation damage, temperature, chemical degradation and biological degradation. Especially, creep deformation and installation damage are considered as main factors to determine the long-term design strength of geogrid. Current practice in the design of reinforced soil is to calculate the long-term design strength of a reinforcement damaged during installation by multiplying the two partial safety factors, $RF_{ID} and RF_{CR}$. This method assumes that there is no synergy effect between installation damage and creep deformation of geogrids. Therefore, this paper describes the results of a series of experimental study, which are carried out to assess the combined effect of installation damage and creep deformation for the long-term design strength of geogrid reinforcement. The results of this study show that the tensile strength reduction factors, RF, considering combined effect between installation damage and creep deformation is less than that calculated by the current design method.
Hanboks have evolved throughout time; for example, the curved Barae has changed into a more modern and sophisticated straight one. The development of staining techniques has increased color selections with more luxurious designs. I suggested a design of Dolbok that considers functionality, practicality and economic feasibility through a comparison of past and present designs. I suggested a fusion Hanbok based on a traditional Dolbok for baby boys and girls. An abundance of cheap resources has decreased the tradition of hand down clothes; therefore, I created functional and economic methods to adjust a Hanbok for kids to wear a long time. First, I made it possible to adjust the length of a skirt by a slip stitch (or catch) stitch with a Seurandan (ornate lower band) and placed the button on shoulder part of the skirt for baby girls. The width of skirt is designed for a 4 year old instead of 1 year old to adjust the size and compensate for growing kids; however, the clothes still look stylish despite the overlapped area. Second, I made a baby boy's vest with a belt that follows traditional methods that were comfortable for width variation. Third, I made Geodeulji (sleeve-ends trimmed with wide bias) that enabled long or short sleeves. Geodeulji made with a variety of fabric colors will enhance the decorative effect. Fourth, I made the width of clothes adjustable by putting Korum (tie) ON Jeogori for baby boys and girls. There are many studies on Hanboks but few reports on modern Dolbok. I believe that designers should further study fusion Hanboks within framework of traditional Hanbok designs to increase comfort and appeal.
Most residential buildings in Korea are preferred to have maximum interior spaces, rather than consider its original design, overall building performance, and any other aspects since early 1990's. Especially in high-rise apartment buildings, balcony has been merged to living room to get more interior spaces and this renovation trends have been producing deep and narrow shapes of living rooms that was not initially intended by architects. On the other hand, the same gross area of each unit does not necessarily mean same width and depth ratio of each residential unit. Generally, we can categorize it to the deep or wide unit based on its width and depth ratio. Under these circumstances, this study analyzes the room usage pattern changes based on the space width and depth ratio and the effect of expansion of room space to the balcony. This study also includes about 180 apartments plan case studies to find out the relationships among w/d ratio changes, furniture arrangement types, and room configurations. In this research, general apartment room w/d ratios are 0.97 ∼ 1.23; 0.7(south facing sitting room), 1.23(south facing bed room), and 0.95(north facing bedroom). But, after expanding room space to balcony w/d ratio increased as follows; sitting room become 1.31, general south facing bedroom become 1.23, and north facing bedroom become 1.45. In addition to user preference of w/d ratio, many people prefer rectangular room shape a little(w/d ratio is 0.9 or 1.2) than square style (w/d ratio is 1.0) or very deep room style (w/d ratio Is more over 1.5). Accordingly, expanding the room space to balcony may make unsatisfactory room w/d ratio. Expanding room space to balcony should be considered by existing room w/d ratio.
The effects of the gravity field and the free surface on the cavity shape and the drag are investigated through a numerical analysis for the steady supercavitating flow past a simple two-dimensional body underneath the free surface. The continuity and the RANS equations are numerically solved for an incompressible fluid using a $k-{\epsilon}$ turbulence model and a mixture fluid model has been applied for calculating the multiphase flow of air, water and vapor using the method of volume of fluid and the Schnerr-Sauer cavitation model. Numerical solutions have been obtained for the supercavitating flow about a two-dimensional $30^{\circ}$ wedge in wide range of depths of submergence and inflow velocities. The results are presented for the cavity shape, especially the length and the width, and the drag of the wedge in comparison with those of the case for the infinite fluid flow neglecting the gravity and the free surface. The influences of the gravity field and the free surface on the aforementioned quantities are discussed. The length and the width of the supercavity are reduced and the centerline of the cavity rises toward the free surface due to the effects of the gravity field and the free surface. The drag coefficient of the wedge, however, is about the same except for shallow depths of submergence. As the supercavitating wedge is approaching very close to the free surface, it is found the length and the width of a cavity are shorten even though the cavitation number is reduced. Also the present result suggests that, under the influence of the gravity field and the free surface, the length of the supercavity for a certain cavitation number varies and moreover is proportional to the inverse of the submergence depth Froude number.
A Special purpose program, based on the dimensional analysis, was developed to estimate the wide band turbulent noise in the blower of vehicle airhandling system. Acoustic power level was measured at 4 rating points around the operating condition. The experiment was performed on the reference blower model using international standard chamber, which could measure acoustic power according to the air-handling performance. Analytical model of the blower noise was determined by the measured data. Using the analytical acoustic model, it was possible to estimated the effect by the change of the operating condition, such as flow rate, static pressure and wheel rotating speed, furthermore, the diameter and the width of blower.

In the present work a methodology to minimize short channel effects (SCEs) by modulating the effective channel length is proposed to design 25 nm single and double gate-source/drain underlap MOSFETs. The analysis is based on the evaluation of the ratio of effective channel length to natural/ characteristic length. Our results show that for this ratio to be greater than 2, steeper source/drain doping gradients along with wider source/drain roll-off widths will be required for both devices. In order to enhance short channel immunity, the ratio of source/drain roll-off width to lateral straggle should be greater than 2 for a wide range of source/drain doping gradients.
In this study. stress-strain relationships were investigated by performing the confined extension tests for seven types of geosynthetics such as geotextiles, composite geosynthetics and geogrids. A comparison was made between unconfined and confined moduli for each geosynthetic material to quantify the soil confinement effect on stress-strain properties. A comparison was also made between the increase of moduli at the same strain level with the types of the geosynthetics to demonstrate the different stress-strain responses. Based on the result of the extension tests, the higher the confining stress, the larger the secant modulus of geosynthetics. The secant modulus at 5% strain is twice as much as that of 10% strain, especially there is a noticeable increasing of secant modulus for the two nonwoven geotextiles.
