A fruit rot of sweet persimmon(Diospyros kaki cv. 'Fuyu') that infected with blue mold was found during the storage and transport in Jinju Gyeongnam Province, Korea. Fruit surfaces that infected with the fungus were formed water soaked lesion at first then gradually colonized with the fungus and formed mycelial mats. From the point of infection, fruits become sunken and mostly ruptured. The pathogenic fungus was isolated from infected fruits and cultured on potato dextrose agar. The colonies of the pathogenic fungi were white at frist then became greyish green on malt extract agar. Conidia were ellipsoidal and $2.6{\sim}3.8{\times}2.4{\sim}3.8{\mu}m$ in size. Phialides were ampulliform, verticilate of 3-7, $8.0{\sim}9.2{\times}2.0{\sim}3.0{\mu}m$ in size. Metulae were verticils of 2-4, smooth, $9.0{\sim}12.6{\times}3.0{\sim}4.6{\mu}m$ in size. Ramuli were groups 1-3, smooth, $11.0{\sim}17.6{\times}2.3{\sim}3.0{\mu}m$ in size. Rami were groups 1-2, $7.5{\sim}32.6{\times}2.6{\sim}4.2{\mu}m$ in size. Stipes were septate, smooth, thin walled, $56{\sim}302{\times}2.8{\sim}4.0{\mu}m$ in size. Penicilli were mostly quaterverticillate. Based on the cultural and mycological characteristics as well as pathogenicity test on host plants, the fungus was identified as Penicillium expansum. This is the first report on the blue mold of sweet persimmon(Diospyros kaki) caused by P. expansum in Korea.

In this study, micro mirror array for small form factor optical pick-up was replicated by micro UV-molding. First, mold for micro mirror array was fabricated using micromachining. Also, to analyze the characteristics of the surface quality, flatness of replicated mirror surface were measured by white light scanning inteferometry system. The results show that the micro mirror array with a sufficient surface quality can be obtained by polymer replication process.
This study investigated White Porcelain Water Dropper with Openwork Lotus Scroll Design and Eight Trigram Design in Cobalt-blue Underglaze (hereinafter, the "water dropper") in the collection of the National Museum of Korea using computed tomography (CT). A replica was produced to examine both the structure and its original production method. The CT scanning identified no joint lines or pores in the clay, which suggests that the body (the lower part of the water dropper) was shaped in a single piece using a mold and was then matched with a mold-formed lid (the upper part of the water dropper). The inner container of the body portion was roughly trimmed with a bamboo knife so that its upper surface could be securely attached to the bottom of the lid and prevent any leakage in the joined surface. It appears that the inner container for storing water was made first in a cylindrical shape that met the unit of quantity used at the time and could be easily formed by molding. It was transformed into a trapezoid shape during the process of combining it with the lid. A cylindrical inner container was reproduced using silicon 3D printing to compare its capacity with that of the original inner container. The comparison revealed that the reproduced container had a capacity of 152.5㎖, whereas the original container holds approximately 168.6㎖, a figure similar to three hop (around 174㎖) in Joseon-period units of quantity. Since the capacity of the cylindrical inner container corresponds to a known measure from the late Joseon dynasty, it is likely that the water dropper was originally produced to contain a cylindrical inner container.

A green mold species that has not previously been reported in Korea was isolated from oak log beds used for shiitake (Lentinula edodes) cultivation that were infested by mushroom flies. In this study, we identify the mold species as Gliocladium viride (an anamorph of Hypocrea lutea) and describe its mycological properties. The fungus was cottony on both potato dextrose agar (PDA) and Czapek yeast extract agar (CYA), but was colored white on PDA and became yellowish green and brown on CYA. Mycelial growth on PDA attained a diameter of 73 mm at $30^{\circ}C$ after 5 days. The fungus grew faster on malt extract agar (> 80 mm, 5 days at $25^{\circ}C$) compared to CYA and PDA (< 68 mm, 5 days at $25^{\circ}C$). Penicillate conidiophores of the fungus are hyaline, smooth walled, branching above typically in four stages, and $120\sim240\;{\mu}m$ in length. Club-shaped or slender phialides are formed on the metulae. Conidia of the fungus were ovate and elliptic, yellowish brown and green, and $2.5\sim3.0\;{\mu}m\times1.8\sim2.3\;{\mu}m$ in size. Typically, slimy conidia are formed in a mass and colored brown to dark green to almost black. The internal transcribed spacer rDNA and translation elongation factor 1 alpha gene sequences of the fungus isolated here show 99% identity with previously identified G. viride strains.
It was the purpose of this study to investigate the fracture mode of dental amalgam by observing the crack propagation, and to relate this to the microstructure of the amalgam. Caulk 20th Century Regular, Caulk Spherical, Dispersalloy, and Tytin amalgam alloys were used for this study. After each amalgam alloy and Hg measured exactly by the balance was triturated by the mechanical amalgamator (Capmaster, S.S. White), the triturated mass was inserted into the cylindrical metal mold which was 4 mm in diameter and 12 mm in height and was pressed by the Instron Universal Testing Machine at the speed of 1mm/min with 120Kg. The specimen removed from the mold was stored in the room temperature for a week. This specimen was polished with the emery papers from #100 to #200 and finally on the polishing cloth with 0.06${\mu}Al_2O_3$ powder suspended in water. The specimen was placed on the Instron testing machine in the method similar to the diametral tensile test and loaded at the crosshead speed of 0.05mm/min. The load was stopped short of fracture. The cracks on the polished surface of specimen was examined with scanning electron microscope (JSM-35) and analyzed by EPMA (Electron probe microanalyzer). The following results were obtained. 1. In low copper lathe-cut amalgam, the crack went through the voids and ${\gamma}_2$ phase, through the ${\gamma}_1$ phase around the ${\gamma}$ particles. 2. In low copper spherical amalgam, it was observed that the crack passed through the ${\gamma}_2$ and ${\gamma}_1$ phase, and through the boundary between the ${\gamma}_1$ and ${\gamma}$ phase. 3. In high copper dispersant (Dispersalloy) amalgam, the crack was found to propagate at the interface between the ${\gamma}_1$ matrix and reaction ring around the dispersant (Ag-Cu) particles, and to pass through the Ag-Sn particles. 4. In high copper single composition (Tytin) amalgam, the crack went through the ${\gamma}_1$ matrix between ${\eta}$ crystals, and through the unreacted alloy particle (core).
This paper presents several problems that can occur in the development of the ultra-compact LED package of less than 1.0mm and introduces the solution to them. In the existing mold structure, since the upper and lower core parts are integrated, various errors have occurred due to the roughness of EDM in the small model, which is a limiting factor in further reducing the mold size. As a countermeasure, the prefabricated model was presented in an earlier study to overcome the obstacles to the development of a ultra-compact LED package. In this paper, several problems have been found during the fabrication of prototypes as a starting work to produce the results for the presented model. The types are suggested and the solutions are discussed. And by changing the existing 2-row structure to 3-row structure in the same size lead frame, the aspect of efficient production is considered. The experimental procedure verifies the proposed solution and conducts a test to produce a prototype to confirm that a good product can be produced.
We have detected the slime mold, Diachea leucopodia (GNU06-10) in a strawberry greenhouse located in Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam. Typical fruiting bodies had developed gregariously on the strawberry leaves, petioles, and plant debris on ground soil habitat, and also surprisingly on plastic pipes and a vinyl covering. Field samples were examined via stereomicroscopy, light microscopy, and SEM for the determination of morphological characteristics. Dark-brown to black spores formed gregariously within the stipitate cylindrical sporangium, and were covered by an iridescent peridium, which may be intact at maturity, or may have disintegrated. The upper portion of the peridium generally breaks up to expose the spores, whereas the lower portion was usually persistent. The results of energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer (EDS) analysis showed that lime was present in the stalk and columella but absent from the spores, capillitium, and peridium. The above characteristics confirm its taxonomic position in the genus Diachea. However, this genus is intermediate in character between the Physarales and Stemonitales of the Myxogastromycetidae. Hence, this genus had been classified as a member of the Stemonitales until the mid-1970's, on the basis of its iridescent peridium and noncalcareous capillitial system, similar to Comatricha of the Stemonitaceae. By way of contrast, emphasis on morphological characteristics, most notably the calcareous stalk and typical columella, places Diachea within the order Physarales. The presence of a phaneroplasmodium during the trophic stage and lime deposition in its sporophores, as was confirmed in this work, supported the inclusion of Diachea in the Physarales, and the noncalcareous capillitial system verified its identification as a member of the Didymiaceae. Further characteristics of the species D. leucopodia include the following: phaneroplasmodium, spore globose 7.5 ${\mu}m$ in diameter, very minutely roughened; sporangia $500{\mu}m\times1mm$, more or less cylindrical, gregarious, stalked 1.2mm; stalk and columella white.

Iron-based metal matrix composites have been recently investigated for the use of inexpensive abrasion resistance material. This paper carried out to investigate the in-situ reaction effects on the microstructural characteristics and the formation mechanism of tungsten carbides in a white cast iron matrix. The specimens of Fe-3.2%C-2.8%Si alloy cast-bonded with tungsten wire were cast in the metal mold and isothermally heat treated at $950^{\circ}C$ up to 48 hours. The typical microstructure of heat treated specimens showed the reaction layer of WC at the interface of tungsten wire and the carbon depletion zone between the WC layer and the matrix. During the formation of WC layer, if the carbon supply is insufficient due to the decarburization of matrix or the isolation of matrix by cast-bonded W wires, the reaction layer develops coarse hexagonal crystalline WC. From the microstructural investigation, it was found that the volume of WC layer and the carbon depletion zone increased linearly with the isothermal heat treating time. This results supported that the formation rate of WC in the white cast iron matrix is controlled by the interfacial reaction with a constant reaction rate.
During 2008~2009 winter season, yellow patch and gray snow mold occurred on turfgrass plants in golf courses in Kangwon and Jeonbuk provinces, respectively. The fungi associated with the diseases were identified as Rhizoctonia cerealis Van der Hoeven and Typhlua incarnata Lasch ex Fr., based on the morphological characteristics of hyphae and sclerotia. R. cerealis and T. incarnata were pathogenic to most turfgrass and crop species tested. R. cerealis infected crown, stem and leaf tissue of the host plants, and the symptom was light yellow circular patch. Individual infected leaf near the margin of patch developed red color first and finally turn brown. The symptoms caused by gray snow mold pathogen are water-soaked spots, and became a watery soft rot. Infection parts became yellow and then turned brown followed by death of the whole plant. White mycelia were developed on higher petioles, leaves, and on soil where these plant parts lay, and black sclerotia of variable size and shape formed in the mycelial mass. All isolates tested were pathogenic on most turfgrass and crop plants, and significantly different in aggressiveness. Disease severity increased with longer snow cover days on target plants, suggesting that disease severity was expressed over snow cover days. There were significant differences in disease severity among the graminious species, and among cultivars within each species, indicating varying levels of susceptibility to R. cerealis and T. incarnata.
Antimetabolite N-2292 substance, an antagonist of L-aspartic acid and L-glutamic acid was isolated from the fermentation broth of Streptomyces. Taxonomical study on the producing strain made it a related species of Streptomyces albulus judged by cultural characteristics and carbon utilization. N-2292 substance was isolated as amorphous white powder with melting point at 185$^{\circ}C$. From the physicochemical characteristics of the substance, it was peptide like substance. It was active against Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria but negative against yeast and mold in its biological properties. It was reversed by L-Asp and L-Glu on the synthetic medium.
