  • As the traffic congestion and parking problems in urban areas are increased the tall and narrow commuter vehicles have interested as a means to increase the utilization of existing freewa- ys and parking facilities. However, in hard cornering those vehicles could reduce stability against overturning compared to conventional vehicles. This tendency can be mitigated by tilting the body toward the inside of the turn. In this paper those tilting vehicles are considered in which at speed at least, the tilt angle is controlled by steering the front wheels. In other word, if the driver turns the steering wheel the tilt controller automatically steers the road wheel to tilt the body inside of the turn. Also, the dynamic tilting vehicle model with tire slip angles is constructed by adding the roll degree of freedom. Finally, through computer simulation the behaviors of the tilting vehicles are investigated.

  • This paper addresses sliding mode control (SMC) of the anti-lock braking system (ABS) with a compensator of model uncertainties such as vehicle parameter variation, unmodeled dynamics, and external disturbances. A sliding mode controller (SMC) is designed with a nominal vehicle model to achieve a desired wheel slip ratio. A disturbance observer (DOB) is introduced to compensate the model uncertainties and is designed with a transfer function of a hydraulic brake dynamics. Through simulations on the model uncertainties, it is verified that the sliding mode control with the DOB can give the simulation results better than the sliding mode control without the DOB.

  • For navigation of a mobile robot, it is one of the essential tasks of find out its current position. Dead reckoning is the most frequently used method to estimate its position. However conventional dead reckoner is prone to give us false information on the robot position especially when the wheels are slipping. This paper proposes an improved dead reckoning scheme using neural networks. The network detects the instance of wheel slipping and estimates the linear velocity of the wheel ; thus it calculates current position and heading angel of a mobile robot. The structure and variables of the neural network are chosen based on the analysis of slip motion robot. The structure and variables of the neural network are chosen based on the analysis of slip motion characteristics. A series of experiments are performed to investigate the performance of the improved dead reckoning system.

  • This paper proposes the design of anti-braking system on aircraft and wheel slip ratio control using adaptive slide mode control. By maintaining the desired wheel slip ratio under runway conditions, we can obtain the maximal frictional force and reduce the braking range. In this paper, we apply an adaptive sliding mode control to aircraft brake system and it can guarantee the robustness under variations in brake characteristics. The performance of proposed controller is verified in simulations.

  • Anti-lock Braking System(ABS) is a device which prevents the wheels form locked up under emergency braking of a vehicle. So it helps the vehicle to maintain the steerability and shortens the braking distance by maintaining optimal frictional force during braking since the tire road slip is controlled in acceptable range. Recently, ABS is accepted as a standard equipment in vehicles, especially in commercial vehicles(bus and trucks). Commercial vehicles don´t use hydraulic lines but use pneumatic lines for braking system mostly. In this paper, ECU(Electronic Control Unit) for the anti-lock braking system of a commercial vehicle which is equipped with a full-air brake system and its control algorithms are presented. In this algorithm wheel speed acceleration flags and wheel slip flags are defined ...

  • In this paper, a re-adhesion control scheme is proposed for 1C2M propulsion system of TTX. The possibility of slip between wheel and rail in railway system is increasing because of the tendency of high speed and a climatic change. This slip results in the decrease of adhesive effort between this wheel and rail, so the control strategy of traction effort which can reduce the speed promptly and make most use of the maximum adhesive force is absolutely necessary. This paper describes the modeling of the TTX system, and this system is verified by the simulation.

  • This paper addresses sliding mode control of the anti-lock braking system (ABS) with a disturbance observer for model uncertainties such as vehicle parameter variation, un-modeled dynamics, and external disturbances. By using a nominal vehicle model, a sliding mode controller is designed to achieve a desired wheel slip ratio for ABS control. To compensate the model uncertainties, a disturbance observer is introduced with the help of a transfer function of a hydraulic brake dynamics. A proposed sliding mode controller with a disturbance observer is evaluated through simulations for model uncertainties. The simulation results show that the disturbance observer can enhance performances of sliding mode control for ABS.

  • A model trains must have similitude with its original model not only in shape but also in motion. Motion characteristics of a model train under considerations are maximum velocity in straight and circular tracks and stopping distance. Equations of motions are derived to obtain maximum speed and stopping distance based on the Newton's Second Law and the energy principal. To accurately predict traction and resistance force between wheel and rail. wheel slip, or creepage, is taken into consideration. To verify the equations of motion, various experiments have been carried out including measurement of gear efficiency, location of mass center, rolling resistance force, traction force, slip, maximum velocity and stopping distance. This paper addresses how the experiments are setup and carried out in detail. Also the results of experiments are compared with the analytical prediction, which showed good agreements with each other.

  • This paper presents a mathematical model which is about the dynamics of not only a two wheel steering vehicle but a four wheel steering vehicle. A sliding mode ABS control strategy and PID rear wheel control logic are developed to improve the brake and cornering performances, and enhance the stability during emergency maneuvers. The performances of the controllers are evaluated under the various driving road conditions and driving situations. The numerical study shows that the proposed full car model is sufficient to accurately predict the vehicle response. The proposed ABS controller reduces the stopping distance and increases the vehicle stability. The results also prove that the ABS controller can be employed to a four wheel steering vehicle and improves its performance. The four wheel steering vehicle with PID rear wheel controller shows increase of stability when a vehicle speed is high and sharp cornering maneuver when a vehicle speed is low compared to that of a two wheel steer vehicle.

  • In the midst of accelerating wars around the world, unmanned robot technology that can guarantee the safety of human life is emerging. ERP-42 is a modular platform that can be used according to the application. In the field of defense, it can be used for transporting supplies, reconnaissance and surveillance, and medical evacuation in conflict areas. Due to the nature of the military environment, atypical environments are predominant, and in such environments, the platform's path followability is an important part of mission performance. This paper focuses on reducing the minimum turning radius in terms of improving path followability. The minimum turning radius of the existing 2WS/2WD in-wheel platform was reduced by increasing the torque of the independent driving in-wheel motor on the rear wheel to generate oversteer. To determine the degree of oversteer, two GPS were attached to the center of the front and rear wheelbases and measured. A closed-loop speed control method was used to maintain a constant rotational speed of each wheel despite changes in load or torque.
