  • In this paper, the time history of the surface elevation measured at the Draupner platform in the North Sea in 1995 is used to examine the statistical characteristics of the wave data. The wave statistics for 48 surface measurements, which contain three freak wave occurrences, are summarized. The quartiles, boxplots, correlations, and pair plots of 15 variables, along with the abnormality index, are presented. The kurtosis and skewness of the surface elevation are two variables that are highly correlated with the abnormality index, which defines freak waves. Principal coordinate analysis showed that the direction of the changes in the abnormality index agreed with the changes in the kurtosis and skewness. In addition, various wave heights, except the maximum wave height, showed a similar direction for the height changes, and various wave periods showed a similar direction for the period changes. Based on the correlations and PCA analysis, the kurtosis and skewness of the surface profiles are the two most important variables to predict the abnormality index.

  • On the framework of stochastic gravitational wave background(SGWB) by compact binary systems, we studied the strain spectra of SGWB produced by cosmological cataclysmic variables(CV). For this we reviewed the empirical properties of CVs by using newly published CV catalogue and calculated the cosmological densities of CVs considering the galaxy luminosity function and cosmic stellar birth rate function. Assuming the secular evolution of CVs, we calculated the time scale of CV gravitational wave(GW) radiation and derived formulae for the strain spectra of SGWB by cosmological CVs.

  • This paper deals with the evaluation of two definite integrals involving spheroidal wave function, H-function of two variables, and the generalized hypergeometric function. Also, an expansion formula for the product of generalized hypergeometric function and the H-function of two variables has been obtained. Since the H-function of two variables, spheroidal wave functions, and the generalized hypergeometric function may be transformed into a number of higher transcendental functions and polynomials, the results obtained in this paper include some known results as their particular cases. As an application of such results, a problem of heat conduction in a non-homogenous bar has been solved by using the generalized Legendre transform [9].

  • Purpose - This study aims to analyze the effects of preference for Korean Wave and heuristic on shopping satisfaction and switching barriers of Chinese people visiting Korea, and also their positive effects on consumers' behavioral intention with these variables as mediating variables by using the structural equation model. Research design, data, and Methodology - For this study, we collected 264 questionnaires of Chinese consumers' who have experienced tourism and shopping in Korea after excluding questionnaires that were not proper to be analyzed. The residence of Chinese visiter was Shandong Province, Beijing, Shanghai, Shenyang. The data of this study was analyzed using SPSS 23 statistics to verify the reliability and discriminant validity. Structural equation method was used to test the hypotheses in this study. Results - The effects of heuristic variable on shopping satisfaction and the switching barriers variable were statistically significant. The effects variables of Korean Wave effect variable were statistically significant only on the switching barriers variable. However, the Korean Wave effect variable did not have a statistically significant effect on the shopping satisfaction. Conclusions - The shopping satisfaction and Korean Wave effect variables had statistically significant effects on the behavioral intention variable. In the result of indirect analysis, only the heuristic effect had indirect effects on consumers' behavior intention.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine whether a pulse analyzer was useful 1) to characterize the variables of pulse wave of diabetes mellitus group, compared with those of healthy subjects, and 2) to determine Sasang Constitution in diabetes mellitus group and healthy subjects. 1. The sum of pulse pressure (energy) and the ratio of systolic period area (As%), called pulse pressure-related variables, were higher in diabetes mellitus group than healthy group, while the height of dicrotic wave (h5) and the ratio of height of dicrotic wave to height of percussion wave (h5/h1), correlated with arterial compliance, were lower in diabetes mellitus group than healthy group. 2. Taeumin of diabetes mellitus group showed higher pressure-related variables than that of healthy group. 3. Soumin of diabetes mellitus group had shorter the time to dicrotic wave (t5) than that of healthy group. 4. Soyangin of diabetes mellitus group showed higher heart rates and lower values in pulse wave time-related variables, including time to dicrotic wave(t5), time to incisura (t4), total time minus time to incisura (t-t4), total time (t), width of percussion wave (w), and the ratio of width of percussion wave to total time (w/t), than that of healthy group. 5. Contact pressure (CP), sum of pulse pressure (energy), height of pre-incisura (h2), height of incisura (h4), width of percussion wave (w), time to incisura (t4), time to percussion wave (t1), variance of total time (Vt), variance of height of percussion wave(Vp) and the ratio of height of incisura to height of percussion wave (h4/h1) were used to develop the rules of Sasang Constitution Classification with about seventy five percents accuracy. These suggested that the pulse analyzer was useful to evaluate the risk degree of diabetes mellitus and to determine Sasang Constitution among either diabetes mellitus group or healthy group.

  • Testing engine performance using an engine dynamometer requires high technical researchers and many facilities. Nowadays, different variables of CAE program are used for identifying the engine performance instead of engine dynamometer test. This is more convenience, as it does not necessitate an abundance of engine dynamometer experiments and, in addition, produces better results. However, CAE programs also contain various variables which can affect engine performance. Those are coupled with each other, thus making it difficult to determine the effectiveness of different variables on engines. DoE (Design of Experiments) methodology is an efficient way to verify the magnitude of effectiveness on engine performance as well as making responses to be optimized at once without trial & error. This study used data from WAVE simulations, which modeled the DOHC SI engine with in-line 4 cylinders at 1500, 3000 and 4500rpm. DoE methodology is designed properly to determine the effectiveness of five variables on power, BSFC, and volumetric efficiency, as well as to find the optimal response conditions at each rpm through a minimized number of experiments. After finishing DoE process, all the results are examined concerning the reliability of test through a verification experiment.

  • This study examined risk and protective variables related with the continuity of developmental risks among 136 infants, aged 4-10 months. Using the Denver Developmental Screening Test, 136 infants among 2978 infants in the first wave of the Korea Child Panel were classified into the developmental risk group. Among the 136 risk group infants, 45 infants stayed in the risk group (continuing risk group) and the other 91 infants moved into the normal group (recovering risk group) after 1 year. Group differences were tested in the levels of infant, mother and father variables to examine which variables were associated with the continuity of developmental risks for a year. Variables indicating parents' marital relationships such as the mothers' marital satisfaction and conflict of the first wave and the fathers' marital satisfaction of the second wave significantly distinguished the continuing from the recovering risk group. In addition, there were significant group differences in the levels of mothers' self-efficacy in the first wave. The findings suggest that the exposure to marital conflict during infancy is associated with the continuity of developmental risks.
