  • In order to meet the high performance of the concrete, the viscosity increases with water binder ratio and amount of powder. because of these problems, we use high performance water reducing agent and low viscosity water reducing agent, but side effects may occur when using large amount of water reducing agent. Therefore, in this research, in order to increase the viscosity, I would like to analyze the change in viscosity and flow characteristics of paste by utilizing fly ash and lung limestone which are generally thrown away without using high performance water reducing agent.

  • For the development of multi-functional materials which has water reducing power, air entraining power and waterproofing power as well as blending additive in cement mortar the coal ash was modified with asphalt-stearic acid or asphalt-boiled oil mixtures by mechanical treatment. And the physical properties of cement mortar blended with modified coal ashes were compared with those of the water-tightness-cement mortar and the ordinary-portland-cement mortar added with AE.water reducing agent. The mortar of coalash-blend-cement modified with asphalt-stearic mixture was increased acid about 20% in initial strengths and decreased about 20% in water absorption ratio than those of ordinary coalash-blend-cement. The mortar of coalash-blend-cement modified with asphalt-bolied oil mixture was similar to the cement mortar added with AE.water reducing agent in water reduction ratio, air entraining conents and the initial strengths, also was similar to the water-tightness-cement mortar in water absorption and water permeability ratios.

  • Background: Roots of Withania somnifera (WS) are a celebrated medicinal ingredient in Ayurvedic and many other indigenous systems of medicine. The present study investigates the effect of the phytochemical composition of the extracts on their antioxidant and reducing activities. Methods: WS roots were extracted with water, acetone, aqueous methanol (1:1), and methanol:-chloroform:water (1:1:1) to obtain aqueous, acetone, hydro-methanolic, and methanol-chloroform-water extracts. Thereafter, phytochemical constitution and antioxidant and reducing activities of the extracts were compared using different qualitative and quantitative tests. Results: Maximum extraction recovery was obtained with 50% aqueous methanol whereas extraction with acetone yielded the poorest recovery. Methanol-chloroform-water extract had the highest content of phytochemical constituents, except tannins, and also exhibited the highest antioxidant and reducing activities. Conclusion: Phytochemical composition and antioxidant and reducing activities of the extracts were positively associated with the use of organic solvents during the extraction process. Alkaloids and flavonoids were the most important contributors in the antioxidant and reducing activities of the extracts.

  • In this paper. applicability of high early strength type AE water reducing agent(HESAEWA) developed by the authors is discussed by applying Mock-up test. For fresh concrete properties, concrete using existing AE water reducing agent(EAEWRA) and HESAEW A meets the target slump and air content at jobsite. Setting time of concrete using HESAEWA is shorter than that using EAEWRA. Remarkable variance of bleeding and settlement is not observed with type of AE water reducing agent. For hardened concrete properties, use of HESAEW A results in higher strength development compared with that of EAEWRA at standard curing and in field curing condition. Reaching time to accomplish 5MPa of compressive strength. which is possible to remove side form. is taken using HESAEWA earlier than that of EAEWRA by 1day. Therefore, it is confirmed that use of HESAEWA can meet the requirements of general quality of concrete and achieve high early strength development as well as has a desirable field applicability.

  • It is possible in the case of the chemical admixtures for concrete currently being used in actual work sites to omit quality evaluation and replace it with the scores of the admixture manufactures; this can create a problem of decline in reliability in quality on the work site. Therefore this study sought to analyze the degree of influence changes in the solid content rate of lignin- and naphthalene-based water-reducing agents have on the fundamental characteristics of cement mortar. The results showed that in fresh mortar, the flow and amount of air decreases with decrease in the solid content ratio. In hardened mortar, the condensation strength had hardly any effect on the use of lignin-based water-reducing agent, but naphthalene-based water-reducing agent increased with the decrease in the solid content ratio.

  • Anaerobically grown cells of an Fe(III)-reducing bacterium, Shewanella putrefaciens IR-l, were electrochemically active with an apparent reduction potential of about 0.15 V against a saturated calomel electrode in the cyclic voltammetry. The bacterium did not grow fermentatively on lactate, but grew in an anode compartment of a three-electrode electrochemical cell using lactate as an electron donor and the electrode as the electron acceptor. This property was shared by a large number of Fe(III)-reducing bacterial isolates. This is the first observation of a direct electrochemical reaction by an intact bacterial cell, which is believed to be possible due to the electron carrier(s) located at the cell surface involved in the reduction of the natural water insoluble electron acceptor, Fe(III).

  • Effect of excessive addition of water reducing agent was examined by concrete tests. Water reducing agents of lignin or naphtalene base were used in the experiment. Setting of concrete was retarded according to the increase of dosage of water reducing agent and was extremely delayed at the 3 times or more use of lignin base agent and near 5 times or more use of naphtalene base agent respectively. When water reducing agent was used more than 6 times of standard dosage, early strength of concrete was very low and the strength reduction was very severe at all test ages in the concrete using lignin base agent.

  • It is necessary to use pressure reducing valves to provide required water pressure in water-based fire suppression systems of the tall buildings. In many cases, however, pressure reducing valves lose their function due to the phenomenon of pressure equalization caused by valve leak. This study carried out performance evaluation of the recently developed pressure reducing valve to prevent pressure equalization and found it can maintain designed pressure reducing ratio within 11% variation and prevent pressure equalization by automatic self-lock function of the piston.

  • This study was investigated to find effects of soaking-water salt concentration and submaterial on Kimchi taste and fermentation period. several parameters such as pH, acidity, reducing sugar, amino acid and sensory evaluation during fermentation at 2$0^{\circ}C$ were experimented. The results are as follows : As fermentation period increases, pH and content of reducing sugar of Kimchi have decreased. But acidity has increased. Especially, the pH of all samples rapidly decreased to a extent of pH 4.2. During fermentation the acidity and content of reducing sugar in 12% soaking-water were higher than those in 16% and 20%. Content of reducing sugar I Kimchi was observed to play an important role for the overall taste. As a result of sensory evaluation during fermentation, Kimchi in 16%, 2.6% and in 20%, 3.7%. Sensory evaluation revealed that leek-added Kimchi was highly evaluated in crispness, sour taste, flavor and overall acceptability. These results suggested that Kimchi fermented for 4days at 2$0^{\circ}C$ with 16% salt concentration of soaking water and leek as submaterials should taste most desirable.

  • The viscosity of high-flowability paste is very high compared to normal concrete for the low water-binder ratio(W/B). Therefore, high-flowability concrete is positively necessary to high-range water reducing agent. High-Flowability paste can make much higher fluidity with no occurrence of segregation, by its higher viscosity and lower yield value than normal concrete. The flowability of high-flowability paste must be evaluated not only by convention consistency test such as slump test but also by the base of the rheological properties of the fresh concrete. The purpose of this study is to analyze the fluidity of high-flowability paste according to the addition ratio of the Melamine Sulphonate high-range water reducing agent.; high-flowability paste is considered as Bingham plastic fluid with the rheology parameters of the plaste viscosity and yield value.
