Subsea tunnels that link land to island and among nations for transportation, efficient development of limited surface and pursuit of economic development should be designed to support pore water pressure on the lining. It is generally constructed in the bed rock of the sea bottom. When the tunnel excavation face meets fractured-zones below sea bottom, collapse may occur due to an increase of pore water pressure and large inflow. Such an example can be found in the Norwegian subsea tunnel experiences in 1980's. In this study hydraulic behavior of tunnel heading is investigated using numerical method based on the collapse of Norwegian subsea tunnel. The effect of pore water pressure and inflow rate were mainly concerned. Horse-shoe shaped model tunnel which has 50 m depth from the sea bottom is considered. To evaluate hydraulic performance, parametric study was carried out for varying relative permeability. It is revealed that pore water pressure has increased with an increase of sea depth. Especially, at the fractured-zone, pore water pressure on the lining has increased significantly. Inflow rate into tunnel has also increased correspondingly with an increase in sea depth. S-shaped characteristic relation between relative permeability and normalized pore water pressure was obtained.
This study was conducted to provide a basic information for the establishment of operation and treatment processes in sewer system of Nakdong river basin to minimize the overall pollutants loading to water body. Sewage flowrates were regularly measured and monitored at various sampling points of newly-built separated sewer system located in G City GA sites. To assess the inflow sewage flowrate, various calculating methods such as water-use evaluation, average-minimum daily flow quality evaluation, minimum daily flow evaluation, night water-use evaluation were used. Average I/Is were calculated except water-use evaluation. Average I/Is were found to be 6.5 $m^{3}/d$, 3.5 $m^{3}/d$, 7.7 $m^{3}/d$ at GA-1, GA-2, GA-3 points respectively. I/I ratios of three areas were found to be 4.8 %, 2.0 % and 2.7 % respectively and were obviously lower than those of the other separated sewer systems as shown in the previous studies.

The inflow estimation at large multipurpose dam reservoir is carried out by considering the water balance among the discharge, the storage change during unit time interval obtained from the observed water level near dam structure and area-volume curve. This method can be ideal for level pool reservoir but include potential errors when the inflow is influenced by the water level slope due to backwater effects from upstream flood inflows and strong wind induced by typhoon. In addition, the other uncertainties arisen from the storage reduction due to sedimentation after the dam construction and water level noise due to mechanical vibration transmitted from the electric power generator. These uncertainties impedes the accurate hydraulic inflow measurement requiring exquisite hydrometric data arrangement for reservoir waterbody. In this study, the distributed hydrologic model using UBC-3P boundary setting was applied and its feasibility was evaluated. Finally, the modeling performance has been verified since the calculated determination coefficient has been in between 0.96 to 0.99 after comparing with observed peak inflow and total inflow at Namgang dam reservoir.

The vertical shaft of a selective intake structure, which is constructed in a large reservoir, is required to be impermeable and to employ a grouting technology to prevent water inflow from the reservoir or surrounding ground. In this study, groundwater inflow is estimated using a numerical model for two cases (i.e., grouting or non-grouting cases at the exterior of a vertical shaft) and compared with data measured during an excavation at the construction site of a selective intake structure in the Soyang reservoir, Korea. Groundwater inflow is estimated to range from 444 to 754 $m^3/d$ in the case of non-grouting and from 58 to 95 $m^3/d$ in the case of grouting. The groundwater inflow measured in a vertical shaft, which ranges from 30 to 100 $m^3/d$, is similar to the simulated amount. It is recommended that before the excavation of a shaft, water inflow is estimated using a numerical model and a grouting test to ensure excavation stability and improve excavation efficiency.

This study is intended to realize an intelligent controller using fuzzy control algorithms in order to recycle energy by recycling the waste water heat discharged by waste water heat collection boilers. Using waste water inflow temperature changes and waste water inflow amount changes as parameters, we present characteristic curves of the number of compressors being operated at fixed speeds and the temperature of hot water being discharged. We propose an intelligent controller that determines the optimum number of compressors being operated at fixed speeds in real time by measuring changes in the temperature and amount of waste water inflows in order to minimize the number of compressors being operated at fixed speeds relative to the waste water load flowing into the waste water heat collection boiler.

This study was accomplished to confirm the possibility of supplying stream minimum flow from detention storage which was determined to reduce peak flows of flood within developing planned district. The results analyzed was summarized as follows; Firstly, Sin-gil district situated in Ansan city was selected, of which watershed area has $0.56km^2$. And detention storage was determined to $5,370m^3$ from analyzing flood volume by the SCS unit hydrograph method. Secondly, using Visual Basic ver 6.0, a detention storage water balance model was developed, in which simulation was based on conditioning storage inflow and outflow according to streamflow volume or rate state. And streamflow was simulated using the DAWAST model. Thirdly, detention operation scenarios were consisted of the combinations with inflow referencing streamflow of 5mm/day, 10mm/day and outflow referencing streamflow of 1mm/day, 2mm/day. The developed detention storage water balance model was operated to simulate daily water storages of detention sized on flood by scenarios. Stream minimum flows were able to be supplied during 209 days to 237 days per a year, total volume of stream minimum flows supplied for this period was analyzed to reach 27 to $55\% of yearly streamflow volume. If inflow criteria of streamflows to detention was considered to be established on a theoretical condition, it is expected to supply stream minimum flows of 20 to $30\% of yearly streamflow from stream to detention. Also to maximize function of supplying urban stream minimum flow from detention storages, sewage waters within developing planned district have to be treated and entered to detention inflow together with streamflows to enrich function of detention planned to reduce flood volumes.
Reliable drought inflow scenarios are required to plan reservoirs in response to the present severe drought-like conditions. However, the previously developed method for generating drought inflows, the K-water cumulative difference method (KCM), is considered inadequate owing to its potential for negative inflow, reversal phenomena, and overestimation. Nevertheless, the occurrence of these aspects has not been theoretically analyzed. Hence, this study employed the quantile function and frequency factor for log-normal and Gumbel distributions to quantify the contributing factors of these limitations. Consequently, it was found that the negative inflows are generated when the difference in the location parameters, during the accumulation process, exceeds that of the scale parameters. In addition, as the standard deviation decrease during the accumulation process, the reversal phenomena, and inflated values prevailed.
The purpose of this study is to figure out the differences of the inflow rates of Sewage Treatment Plants (STP), invested by public fund or public-private partnership (PPP). This paper finds that the average ratio of sewage inflow according to facility capacities (medium and small scale STP) was either nearly below 30% or above 100% in the first year. As the size of STP increased, there was decrease in the accuracy of demand assumption. This was because the operation time when the ratio of sewage inflow was uniform was different according to the size of STP, whereby the time was short when the STP were small. The design average ratio of sewage inflow was 10% larger than the real average ratio; this was considered overdesigned. In the case of a plant built by the PPP scheme, the average ratio of inflow of the STP before an abolition of MRG was larger than after the abolition of MRG. This may be explained by moral hazard from too much reliance on MRG. After the abolition of MRG, the demand risk of PPP was shifted from a PPP project to a conventional project.
With the recent development of artificial intelligence, a Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) model that is efficient with time-series analysis is being used to increase the accuracy of predicting the inflow of dams. In this study, we predict the inflow of the Soyang River dam, using the LSTM model with the Sequence-to-Sequence (LSTM-s2s) and attention mechanism (LSTM-s2s with attention) that can further improve the LSTM performance. Hourly inflow, temperature, and precipitation data from 2013 to 2020 were used to train the model, and validate and test for evaluating the performance of the models. As a result, the LSTM-s2s with attention showed better performance than the LSTM-s2s in general as well as in predicting a peak value. Both models captured the inflow pattern during the peaks but detailed hourly variability is limitedly simulated. We conclude that the proposed LSTM-s2s with attention can improve inflow forecasting despite its limits in hourly prediction.

In order to analyze water supply capacity in estuary barrage dam, a system was developed in which base model was consisted of daily water balance model and daily inflow model. Agricultural water demand to paddy fields and domestic and industrial water demand were considered in this daily water balance model. Also outflow volume through sluice gate and inside water level at time to start outflow was conditioned initially to simulate reservoir storage. The DAWAST model was selected to simulate daily reservoir inflow in which return flows from agricultural, domestic and industrial water were included to simulate runoff. Using this developed system, water supply capacity in the Keum river estuary reservoir was analyzed.
