  • Automotive industry requires high technologies to stabilize apparatuses for the EGR valve manufacturing. Vibrations of washing machine are one of the most critical factors for causing unwashed products, which are the main reasons of the defects. In this study, the structure of the washing machine was analyzed through the experiment and the computer simulation to investigate the main reasons of the vibrations, and further to alter the design for the improved stability. And the design alterations were applied to the machine to identify the effects of those alterations. The result of the study shows that design alterations of the washing machine can effectively suppress about 85% of the vibrations, and further can minimize the unwashed EGR valve.

  • Most washing machines are now produced as a drum-type, where a washing drum mounted on a suspension system with springs and dampers, to minimize the transmittance of the vibration from the drum to the cabinet. The purpose of this paper is to develop optimized suspension system of the drum washing machine which minimizes transmission of disturbing vibration and force. In this paper, a method for optimizing suspension system of the drum washing machine is presented using ADAMS. The design variables to optimize are extracted using Sequential Quadratic Programming(SQP) in ADAMS. To evaluate optimized spring constants and damping coefficients of the drum washing machine, simulation was done to compare the vibration attenuation performances before and after the optimization. The results of simulation show that the optimized suspension system has better performance than before the optimization.

  • A design methodology for parametric design optimization of washing machine door is presented. We develop a motion simulator and a robotic door to simulate the various motion of washing machine doors. The motion of the washing machine door is related to hinge parameters. Springs and dampers are usually used in the hinge of washing machine door for controlling motion of the door. A physical simulator of the door motion is used for finding candidate parameters of the hinge and a robotic door whose motion is controlled algorithmically is used for consumer tests. Through the consumer evaluation on the robotic motion, the optimized parameters are determined. We find the optimal parameters as a function of angle and angular velocity of the door.

  • An automatic cap-washing machine is developed for rinse and dry of synthetic resin cap which is used in spring water bottle. This machine should be achieved all processes washing and drying, array, transfer automatically. A cap is washed by an ozonized water and pure water first. Next, a cap is dried by a hot wind drying equipment. In this paper, structural and modal analysis for the cap-washing machine is carried out to check the design criterion of the machine. The analysis is carried out by FEM simulation using the commercial software, CATIA V5. And a fictitious mass properties was used for the analysis of the machine. Finally, the machine performance is shown to be satisfactory.

  • Formulations of compact and supercompact heavy-duty detergents, which are being used widely around the world, differ from those of conventional heavy-duty detergents. Significant differences in composition exist between the compact detergents and the conventional detergents. The compact detergents have a higher content of surfactants, oxygen bleach and enzymes than the conventional detergents. We have studied to find the most effective washing conditions of artificially soiled cloths with a commercial, supercompact, heavy-duty detergent and a drum type washing machine which is becoming the preferred type in Korea. Moreover, we have studied the washing performance with an impeller type washing machine, which has heretofore been the most popular type in East Asia. With the drum-type washing machine, washing performances improved as the washing temperatures went up and the washing times were lengthened. Though the rate of soil removal with a double recommended dosage was higher than with the recommended amount at $20^{\circ}C$, the effects of the higher dosage decreased as the washing temperatures increased. Finally, the washing performances with the two different dosages were the same at $60^{\circ}C$. The washing performances at $40^{\circ}C$ with the recommended dosage for 90 minutes were the same as with the double recommended dosage for 45 minutes. The soil removal efficiencies with the impeller-type washing machine were much lower than those of the drum-type washing machine. The reasons for this were the higher bath ratio that led to the lower concentration of wash liquor, the shorter washing time, and the lower washing temperature.

  • Vibration problems are an intrinsic characteristic in a washing machine owing to rotation working mechanism. Therefore, a right comprehension of working principle and the analysis on dynamic behavior of a washing machine is essential to design anti-vibration or vibration reduction. In this paper, we choose two kinds of a washing machine: a suspension type pulsator/drum type washing machine. Each the structure and working principle of a washing machine is discussed briefly and the dynamic behavior of it is investigated, then, the vibration detection problems of transient or excessive vibration is tented in each category. Some vibration experimented results in a washing machine are presented also.

  • The washing and cleaning the clothing has been considered one of the hardest task of house chores to house wife. It is still big drudgery of house keeping in the so-called high tech society. General statistics says the efforts for better washing condition has developed in minimal. It is hard task as it was before. This study is focusing the appliances for the labor reduction have developed favorably to work more effectively. In the context of home mechanization, it is very important to explore the process of the invent, development and design of washing machine. Another point of view for the washing machine is that it is one of the household artifacts, and we witness a specific character by analyzing how it was evolved. Research shows the invention, innovation, improvement and modification of the washing machine by areas and companies such as Miele and Maytag, where present established washing machine manufacturers around on Europe and USA.

  • The washing efficiency of two types of washing machine- drum(drum washing) and drum using steam jet system(steam drum washing) was studied. The purpose of this paper is to clarify the performance of new steam drum washing. The relationship between washing temperature and washing efficiency(reflectance(%)) by soil removal, and that between washing temperature and electric energy consumption, Fabric damage evaluated by Danish wear method, Fabric shrinkage(%) during laundering were investigated, and compared with those in drum washing machine. Washing efficiency of steam drum washing according to washing temperature is better than that of drum washing. Electric energy consumption and fabric damage in steam drum washing are lower than those of drum washing. Fabric damage increased as washing temperature increased. Shrinkage of fabrics in steam drum washing and drum washing are about same. Therefore, we assumed that in the case of steam drum washing using steam jet system, washing efficiency remarkably increased, and fabric damage decreased, even with a lot of saving in given electric energy and water used.

  • The quality of a rotating body such as a washing machine depends on the vibration characteristics. So, the researches to reduce the vibration of a washing machine are actively performing, but it is very difficult to conduct these experiments because there are many design parameters affecting the vibration behavior. Accordingly, in this study it was complete to build a modeling of a drum washing mashing to analyze and predict vibration behaviors. The design parameters which affect the vibration were found, and the method for the systematic analysis of the design parameters was suggested using axiomatic design. In the previous study, the effect of the gasket has not considered on vibration behaviors, but in this study it was considered. The simulation results showed good agreements with the experimental results in the vibration displacement and the vibration tendency of a drum washing machine.

  • New design principles nad necessary conditions for a mechanical system have been suggested to be kept in the design process using a washing machine transmission as a model. The necessary conditions are funcitnal requirement condition and spatial arrangement condition. The design principles to satisfy the necessary conditions are the principle of sequence and the principle of expansion. Decision sequence for state variables and design varibles of various mechanicla elements have been formulated. New automatic design program for washing machine transmission has been developed observing the necessary conditions and design principles investigated in this study. It was verified to be very effective to follow the design conditions, principles nad formulated decision sequence in mechanical system design process.
