Phenomenon of droplet impingement with high temperature wall needs to be investigated because atomization process of droplet and cooling process of the wall by the impingement are very important in industry, thus studies concerned with temperature of piston wall have been conducted in spray characteristics analysis of diesel engine. Hence, in this study, we defined $DT_{sat}(=T_w-T_{sat})$ superheat degree of the wall by difference between $T_w$ considering surface temperature of piston in the actual engine and $T_{sat}$ saturation temperature of the fuel and then investigated spray behavior of wall impinging with variance of the boiling process. In this study, in order to analyze wall impingement of droplet in accordance with difference of boiling condition, calculational conditions were set as $DT_{sat}=40K$(nucleate boiling), $DT_{sat}=140K$(transition boiling), and $DT_{sat}=240K$(film boiling). As a result, it can be found that fuel vapor increases and droplet mass decreases in the order of the nucleate boiling, transition boiling, and film boiling.

This paper presents a transformable track mechanism for wall climbing robots. The proposed mechanism allows a wall climbing robot to go over obstacles by transforming the track shape, and also increases contact area between track and wall surface for safe attachment. The track mechanism is realized using a timing belt track with one driving actuator. The inner frame of the track consists of serially connected 5R-joints and 1P-joint, and all joints of the inner frame are passively operated by springs, so the mechanism does not require any actuators and complex control algorithms to change its shape. Static analysis is carried out to determine design parameters which enable $90^{\circ}$ wall-to-wall transition and driving over projected obstacles on wall surfaces. A Prototype is manufactured using the transformable track on which polymer magnets are installed for adhesion force. The size of the prototype is $628mm{\times}200mm{\times}150mm$ ($Length{\times}Width{\times}Height$) and weight is 4kgf. Experiments are performed to verify its climbing capability focusing on $90^{\circ}$ wall to wall transition and driving over projected obstacle.
Monte Carlo simulations of hard-spheres confined in parallel hard walls have been carried out extensively at various densities and for various wall distances. The compressibility factors in the directions parallel and normal to the wall have been calculated from the radial free space distribution function (RFSDF) with the results showing that the compressibility factors normal to the wall are smaller than those in parallel direction and that a solid phase is formed in the direction normal to the wall while a fluid phase remains in the parallel direction. An order parameter is found to classify the phases whether a system (or a molecule) is in a fluid or a solid state. The compressibility factors of narrow wall are very small compared to those when the wall is put away. A plausible mechanism of the rise of sap in xylem vessel has been proposed.

Boiling heat transfer phenomena is widely applied to BWR and electrical heating system because of its high heat transfer coefficient. In these systems, steady state heat transfer is dependent on nucleate boiling. When the heat generating rate is sharply increased or the cooling capacity of coolant is sharply decreased, sharp wall temperature rise is occurred under the critical heat flux(CHF) condition. This paper presents the simple wall temperature fluctuation model of transition mechanism in the repeating process of overheating and quenching, when coalescent bubble passes relatively slowly on the wall and simultaneously the transition from nucleate boiling to film boiling is carried at especially onset of the CHF state. The values calculated by the present model are resulted comparatively good with the measured.

An attempt has been made to examine the highest liquid surface by means of measuring the movement of liquid free surface wave in the agitated vessel wall. Also, Relationship has been investigated between transition frequency, $N_z$ for behavior of liquid free surface and transition frequency for behavior of mass transfer coefficient in the agitated vessel wall. A surface wave is occured within agitated vessel, the highest height of wetted vessel wall, $h_w$ is coincided with the highest liquid surface, h. However the lowest height of wetted vessel, $h^*{_w}$ is not descended to lowest liquid free surface, $h^*$. The proposed model has been tested sucessfully for the behavior of liquid free surface.

For the calculation of internal stability, the hypothesis in conventional design is on the basis of two distinct zones, which are 'active zone' and 'passive zone'. This means that there is an abrupt discontinuous transition from active to passive states across a potential failure line. The existence of a discontinuity of this nature appears physically unreasonable, especially from kinematic considerations. A series of pull-out model tests was undertaken from a wall being rotated about the toe to find the strain distribution mobilized from near the wall face into the deep, stable zone through the centre plane. With this finding of transition zone, the objective of study is aiming at identifying the likely effect of this zone in designing method by comparing with the prevailing design method.

According to recent research on leak-rate estimates to assess rupture probabilities of nuclear piping which contains a circumferential surface/through-wall cracks due to PWSCC, i.e., xLPR (Extremely Low Probability of Rupture) program, it has been revealed that the use of crack shape with an idealized circumferential through-wall crack during actual crack growth can lead to overestimate of the leak-rate. Thus, for accurate estimation of the leak-rate during crack growth, the more realistic crack shape that can simulate the crack shape transition from surface crack to through-wall crack should be used. In this context, in the present study, the elastic crack opening displacement of slanted circumferential through-wall crack in thick-walled cylinder was proposed based on 3-dimensional elastic finite element fracture mechanics analyses. To propose the elastic crack opening displacement of slanted circumferential through-wall crack in thick-walled cylinder, the geometric variables affecting crack opening displacement, i.e., thickness of cylinder, reference inner crack length and slant crack ratio were systematically varied. In terms of loading conditions, axial tension, global bending moment and internal pressure were considered. The present results can be applied to calculate the leak-rate considering more realistic crack shape transition from surface crack to idealized through-wall crack, and can be expected to enhance current leak-rate estimation scheme, for instance, in xLPR program etc.

This paper presents a numerical investigation of deflagration to detonation transition (DDT) induced by shock wave and flame interaction in ethylene-air mixtures. Also shows the change of DDT triggering time by wall cooling effect. A model is consisted of the compressible reactive Navier-Stokes equations. And the effect of viscosity, thermal conduction, molecular diffusion, chemical reaction and wall effect are included. Using this model, the generation of hot spot by repeated shock and flame interaction, occurrence of detonation, and wall cooling effect of detonation confining boundaries are studied.

The effect of the axial slit of outer cylinder on Taylor-Couette flow was experimentally investigated. The radius ratio and aspect ratio of the model was 0.825 and 48, respectively. The depth of slits was 5mm and total 18 slits were azimuthally located along the inner wall of outer cylinder. We used PIV method to measure the flow field and applied refractive index matching method to resolve the image distortion due to the complex model geometry. The results showed the axial slit did not affect the transition from laminar Couette flow to Taylor vortex. The effect of slit wall appeared when the Reynolds number is larger than Re=143 and the slit model shows the transition to turbulent Taylor vortex flow above Re=143.
