  • Background: A new admission procedure was introduced to Korea when Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm. D.) program was first established in 2011. In the new procedure, applicants are reviewed based on quantitative qualifications, which include Pharmacy Education Eligibility Test (PEET) scores, Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) scores, and grade point average (GPA), as well as qualitative qualifications such as essay writing, extracurricular activities including volunteer experiences. Purpose: This study aimed to find relationships between entrance qualifications and academic performance of pharmacy students. Method: Entrance qualifications and academic performance of 164 first-year students were analyzed from 2011 to 2013 at Catholic University of Daegu. Other characteristics such as age and gender were also considered in the study. Results: Only GPA and TOEIC scores showed positive Pearson correlation with academic performance, while PEET scores did not. Conclusion: GPA and TOEIC scores could potentially have predictive validity for academic performance in pharmacy school. PEET scores, however, should simply be considered as pre-entrance qualifications, without predictive validity for academic performance.

  • In today's highly automated aircraft, the role of the pilot has changed from an airplane controller to a system manager. As a system manager in a cockpit, today's pilot is in charge of a management-level activity called cockpit task management( CTM). According to earlier studies, pilot errors in performing CTM activities were significant factors in a large number of aircraft accidents and incidents. The primary objective of this research was to reduce CTM-related pilot errors. A prototype pilot- vehicle interface called the cockpit task management system (CTMS) was developed and its effectiveness in improving CTM performance was evaluated. After the CTMS was implemented, it was integrated into a PC-based flight simulator to perform an experiment to evaluate its effectiveness. Eight volunteer subjects were used to collect performance data. The results of the experiment indicated that a statistically significant improvement was observed when the subjects flew with the assistance of the CTMS.

  • The goal of this study was to establish the evaluation method, which consist of the principle, factor, procedure and checklist, on environmental camp program and then to support staffs of environmental camp for decision-making to improve pre-program and develop new one. The main principles of the evaluation method established in this study were Hierarchical holism and Open inter-communication. First, hierarchical holism focused at the interaction among six factors, which were divided by 3 steps : 1) goal(and objectives) 2) learners and sites 3) activities, staffs and media. Second, open inter-communication could be defined a feedback process among all program participants : manager, staff, teacher, volunteer, learner and so on. The evaluation checklist had been developed of 10 comprehensive items and 30 factor-items at the preliminary step but some items were assessed some complex or duplicate in the result of 3 case studies. The suggested checklist was diminished to 5 comprehensive items and 25 factor-items. Several alternatives, which included specifing learners and objectives, developing site-oriented program and establishing the evaluation sheet were suggested for improving environmental camp program.

A questionnaire was carried out: 25 questions about the burdens to the participants and 47 questions about the quality of life. The data obtained was analyzed using the SAS program to conduct t-test, ANOVA, Duncan test, and Pearson's correlation coefficient test. Results: 1. The mean total score of the burdens felt by the hospice volunteers was $53.3{\pm}10.4$. There was no significant difference in the level of burden depending on the demographic characteristics of the hospice volunteers. But the burden in care of high education and low quality of life increased significantly. 2. The level of burden to the hospice volunteers decreased significantly as their families more favored their volunteer activities. The subjects felt the highest burden in: family care, physical care spiritual care, emotional care, and after-death care, in this order. 3. The level of burden related to each factors was high in the burden due to patient care, sense of achievement, and volunteer activities, in this order. 4. There was a reverse correlation between the level of burden to hospice volunteers and their quality of life. Conclusion: In order to reduce the burdens to hospice volunteers and to help them tate care of patients more effectively, it would be necessary to provide the education programs about practical patient care problems and to develop measures for improving their quality of life, taking into account their level of education, family's support, and difficulties in their volunteer activities.
