  • Small clear specimens of Quercus acutissima Carr. and Larix caempferi Carr. were used to measure shrinkage and thermal conductivity for the reasonable and effective use. All samples were conditioned to 18, 12, 5% moisture contents in a humidity chamber of 86, 66, 20% relative humidity(RH), respectively and room temperature(23℃) All specimens were conducted on the shrinkage and thermal conductivity test at each MCs. These processes(cycle) were repeated three times. The radial and tangential shrinkages of Quercus acutissima Carr. and Larix caempferi Carr. decreased at each level of MCs, with the increasing cycles. The radial and tangential shrinkages increased as the specific gravity(on oven-dry weight and volume basis) increased. Thermal conductivities of the radial and tangential direction of Quercus acutissima Carr. and Larix caempferi Carr. increased at each levels of MCs, with increasing cycles. Good correlations were obtained between shrinkages and thermal conductivities of radial and tangential direction, and specific gravity (on oven-dry weight and oven-dry volume basis) and MC.

  • The injection molded Fe sintered bodies were fabricated using two kinds of Fe powders haying 50 nm and $3\sim5{\mu}m$ in diameter. In the using of Fe powder having 50 nm in diameter, the comparatively dense bodies ($94\sim97\%$) were obtained even at low sintering temperature ($600\sim700^{\circ}C$), while in the sintered bodies ($1000^{\circ}C$) using $3\sim5{\mu}m$ Fe powder, their relative densities showed low values about $93\%$, although they were strongly depend on the sintering temperature and volume ratio of Fe powder and binder. In the sintered bodies using of 50 nm Fe powders, the volume shrinkage and grain size increased as the sintering temperature increased, but the values of hardness decreased. In the sample sintered at $650^{\circ}C$, the values of relative density, volume shrinkage and grain size were $96\%,\;37\%\;and\;0.97{\mu}n$, respectively and the minimum value of wear depth was obtained due to combination of fine grain and comparatively high density.

  • The sink mark on boss parts is generated by the volumetric shrinkage that is caused by both the molding thickness and the boss wall thickness. The volumetric shrinkage is caused by packing pressure and its amount tends to decrease by increasing the packing pressure. The packing pressure can therefore increase the flow rate to a boss part and causes the depth of sink mark to increase. As the molding thickness and the boss wall thickness in the boss part can increase the part volume, these may yield bad solidifying and also extend the molding cycle. In this paper, both the injection molding test and the flow analysis were carried out to investigate the effect of sink mark that was generated in the boss wall thickness of injection molded products. The sink mark could also be caused by thickness ratio of boss part. For a given thickness ratio of boss, several molding process parameters such as packing pressure, packing time and melt temperature, affecting to generation of the sink mark were discussed.

  • The purpose of this research is to investigate properties and field application of non-shrinkage high strength concrete containing expansive additive. Before the field applications, several basic laboratory test are performed to evaluate the characteristics of air content, workability and strength of the concrete using calcium sulfa aluminate(CSA) expansive additive. As a result, high strength concrete using CSA expansive additive show similar workability and compressive strength to that normal concrete, and the optimum replacement ratio of them is obtained by 10% CSA expansive additive. Accordingly, it can be concluded that the use of CSA expansive additive is effective to prevent shrinkage crack and to achieve volume stability of concrete structure.

  • The objectives of this study are to develop and evaluate the Neural Network algorithm which can predict the inelastic shortening such as the creep strain and the drying shrinkage strain of reinforced concrete members using the previous test data. New learning algorithms for the prediction of creep strain and the drying shrinkage strain are proposed focusing on input layer components and a normalization method for input data and their validity is examined through several test data. In Neural Network algorithm, the main input data to be trained are the compressive strength of the concrete, volume to surface ratio, curing condition, relative humidity, and the applied load. The results show that the new algorithms proposed herein successfully predict creep strain and the drying shrinkage strain.

  • This study is about evaluation of shrinkage of concrete used oxidized EFS(electric-furnaceslag) aggregate. As a result, the shrinkage of concrete used oxidized EFS aggregate is decreased to about 40% in proportion to replacement of oxidized EFS aggregate in total aggregate volume.

  • Aggregate gradation effects on cracking-related displacements of concrete are investigated in the laboratory using the German cracking frame. Concrete workability was assessed by use of the slump and drop tests for two different concrete mixtures consisting of gap-graded and dense-graded aggregates. Shrinkage strain, cracking frame strain, and concrete strain were measured and used to compare to strength gain and creep development. The measured and calculated strains of the different aggregate gradations were compared each other. Gradation effects on strength and stress development relative to tensile cracking at saw-cut tip were also investigated. Test results revealed that the gap-graded concrete has indicated larger shrinkage and creep strains than dense-grade concrete perhaps because of its higher volume concrete of cement mortars in the mixture.

  • In the present study, laboratory tests including the seepage-induced consolidation test, suction test, and desiccation shrinkage test are performed to investigate characteristics of the desiccation shrinkage in reclaimed hydraulic fills. Soil samples for laboratory tests are obtained from three sites (districts of Haenam, Kogeum and Koheung in Chunnam area). Desiccation shrinkage settlement caused by three dimensional volume change is numerically evaluated using finite difference technique based on the governing equation proposed by Abu-Hejleh & Znidarcic. Also characteristics of the desiccation shrinkage analyzed from the test results are used as input data for numerical evaluations. Further predicted total settlements including the self-weight consolidation settlement are compared with values measured at the site of Haenam district. Finally, effects of parameters related to the desiccation shrinkage on settlements are examined.

  • This research investigates the effects of shrinkage reducing agent (SRA) on the mechanical behavior of strain-hardening cement composite (SHCC). SHCC material with specified compressive strength of 50 MPa was mixed and tested in this study. All SHCC mixes reinforced with volume fraction of 2.2% polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fiber and test variables are type and dosage of shrinkage reducing agents. The shrinkage reducing materials used in this study are phase change material as the thermal stress reducing materials that have the ability to absorb or release the heat. The effect of SRA was examined based on the change in length caused by shrinkage and hardened mechanical properties, specially compressive, tensile and flexural behaviors, of SHCC material. It was noted that SRA reduces change in length caused by shrinkage at early age. SRA can also improve the tensile and flexural strengths and toughness of SHCC material used in this study.
