  • The output voltage of Synchronous Generator is regulated constantly by field current control in excitation system. A synchronous generator is equipped with an automatic voltage regulator(AVR), which is responsible for keeping the constant output voltage under normal operating conditions about various levels. High frequency PWM converter (Current Mode Control Buck converter) type excitation system for synchronous generator is able to sustain output voltage level properly when the fault condition happened. This paper deals with the design and evaluation of the excitation system controller for a synchronous generator to improve the steady state and transient stability. The simulation and experimental results show that the proposed excitation system is improve the respons time by the AVR(automatic voltage regulator) of 50kW synchronous generator that is applied the current mode control excitation system.

  • The superconducting synchronous motor or generator mostly has high permeability iron only around outer yoke portion. Therefore, if excitation voltage (Back E.M.F) is calculated from 2 dimensional magnetic field distributions, it can be largely different from actual value due to additional voltage originated from end coils. In order to calculate the excitation voltage more accurately, 3 dimensional magnetic field calculation is necessary for including the end coil effect from large air-gap structure. The excitation voltage can be calculated by stator (armature) coil linkage flux originated from rotor (field) coil excitation, but it is difficult to calculate the flux linkage exactly because of complicated structure of the stator coil. This paper shows a method to calculate the excitation voltage from 3 dimensional magnetic energy that can be calculated directly from volume integration of magnetic flux density and field intensity scalar product through FEM (Finite Element Method) analysis software.

  • An electron-excited temperature ($T_{ex}$) is not determined by the Boltzmann plots only with the spectral data of $4p{\rightarrow}4s$ in an Ar-plasma jet operated with a low frequency of several tens of kHz and the low voltage of a few kV, while $T_{ex}$ can be obtained at least with the presence of a high energy-level transition ($5p{\rightarrow}4s$) in the high-voltage operation of 8 kV. The optical intensities of most spectra that are measured according to the voltage and the measuring position of the plasma column increase or decay exponentially at the same rate as that of the intensity variation; therefore, the excitation temperature is estimated by comparing the relative optical-intensity to that of a high voltage. In the low-voltage range of an Ar-jet operation, the electron-excitation temperature is estimated as being from 0.61 eV to 0.67 eV, and the corresponding radical density of the Ar-4p state is in the order of $10^{10}{\sim}10^{11}cm^{-3}$. The variation of the excitation temperature is almost linear in relation to the operation voltage and the position of the plasma plume, meaning that the variation rates of the electron-excitation temperature are 0.03 eV/kV for the voltage and 0.075 eV/cm along the plasma plume.

  • It is difficult to calculate the output force of a single-layer piezoelectric actuator under voltage excitation. In this paper, the piezoelectric actuator is organically combined with the mass-spring-damping system, and the deformation of the piezoelectric actuator under voltage excitation is transformed into the displacement of the mass-spring-damping system. Then, according to the differential equation of the system, the formulae of the mechanical output of the piezoelectric actuator under sinusoidal alternating current and DC step excitation are obtained by using the Laplace change and the inverse change, respectively. Finally, the proposed equations are verified by using ceramic piezoelectric actuators and PVDF actuators, respectively. The results are compared with the existing ones, which shows that the proposed method is feasible, easy, and practical.

  • There are many equipments for the Short Circuit Test, for example Short Circuit Generator, Induction Motor, Sequence Timer, CLR, Back Up Breaker, Making Switch and Excitation Equipment etc. Gradually an allowable tolerance of the short circuit test voltage is become smaller by the standards for short circuit test. The excitation equipment of short circuit generator is very important for test voltage is adjusted by the excitation equipment. Especially the excitation equipment must be possessed character of exactitude, durability and inalterability because some times around 10,000 times opening and closing short circuit test is requested by clint, which must be done within one minute. The purpose of this study for function and operation of the excitation equipment which rated DC voltage is 1,000V, rated DC current is 300A, rated out put is 30kW and type is YNEX 97S-441/609, is to help operation of short circuit generator.

  • To obtain an elliptical trajectory at the cutting edge during elliptical vibration cutting, sinusoidal voltage excitations of two piezoelectric actuators have commonly been used. In this study, PWM excitation, which is relatively simple to generate, was employed and its characteristics were investigated. In experimental and analytical analyses, we found that for PWM excitation, the integer-multiple frequencies of the excitation voltage distorted the shape of the elliptical trajectory, whereas at a duty ratio(DR) of 50%, the distortion of the elliptical trajectory was minimized due to disappearance of the first overtone. When the magnitude of the maximum excitation voltage was maintained at the same level for both PWM and sinusoidal excitation, PWM (DR=50%) excitation produced a greater vibration amplitude than sinusoidal excitation but resulted in more rapid saturation of a high-frequency power amplifier.

  • Dynamics of the electric system for the toroidal drive under mechanical disturbance is presented. Using the method of perturbation, free vibrations of the electric system under mechanical disturbance are studied. The forced responses of the electric system to voltage excitation under mechanical disturbance are also presented. We show that as the time grows, the resonance vibration caused by voltage excitation still exists and the vibrations caused by mechanical disturbance are enlarged. The coupled resonance vibration caused by mechanical disturbance and voltage excitation is discussed. The conditions of the occurrence of coupled resonance are studied.

  • In this paper digitally based excitation systems for the synchronous brushless generators are presented. System configuration, control functions with their structure functions are also shown. The control system has two feedback loops: main one based on a generator's voltage with digital controller and inner one based on excitation voltage of the exciter with analog controller. Usually the generator regulation of voltage Is made with transducers for the voltage measurement. This paper shows technique of measuring the voltage without harmonics affect, using Park's equation transformation.

  • This paper proposes a control scheme of the voltage ripple suppression for the permanent magnet exciter generator. The output voltage of the permanent magnet excitation generator is affected by the field current, load current and the engine speed. The engine speed can be controlled by the governor. But, the actual frequency is changed at the starting and a sudden load variation. As a result, output voltage overshoot and undershoot can decrease the power quality in the grid system. The proposed control scheme uses a frequency factor to control the field current of the generator for the voltage ripple reduction. Because of the linkage flux is proportional to the frequency, the instantaneous frequency can consider the linkage flux. The proposed control method shows the improved control performance for the permanent magnet excitation generator through simulation.
