The Causal Relationship among Vocational Basic Competencies, Self-Efficacy, Nursing Professionalism and Self-Directed Learning Ability of Nursing Students (간호대학생의 직업기초능력과 자기효능감, 간호전문직관 및 자기주도학습능력의 인과적 관계)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine empirically the influence of self-efficacy on the selection of behavior and sustainability as a variable affecting vocational basic competencies. There is a need to confirm the influence of the mediating effect of nursing professionalism and self-directed learning ability formed through the recognition of nursing professional intuition on the vocational basic competencies. For this purpose, 396 nursing students from three junior colleges in J province were sampled for convenience. All of the latent variables were measured by vocational core competency, self-efficacy, nursing professionalism and self-directed learning ability. The collected data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling. The result of this study were as follows: First, the fix indexed of causal model among ocational core competency, self-efficacy, nursing professionalism and self-directed learning ability were identified suitably. Second, self-efficacy had no direct effect on vocational core competency, however, nursing professionalism and self-directed learning ability had moderating effect in the relationship between self-efficacy and vocational core competency. Third, nursing professionalism had direct effect on vocational core competency and also self-directed learning ability had moderating effect in the relationship between nursing professionalism and vocational core competency. Fourth, self-directed learning ability had direct effect on vocational core competency.

Vocational Competency Constituents Affecting the Professionalism of Dental Hygienists (치과위생사의 전문직업성에 영향을 미치는 직업기초능력요소)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the constituents of vocational competency affecting the professionalism of dental hygienists. The subjects in this study were 230 dental hygienists who worked in university hospitals, dental hospitals, dental clinics and public dental clinics. A survey was conducted from December, 2013, to February, 2014. To assess their vocational competency and professionalism by general characteristics, one-way ANOVA and t-test were utilized, and the level of significance was set at p<0.05. To determine what elements of vocational competency affected their professionalism, multiple regression analysis was made, and standardized regression coefficients were calculated to represent the influence of the elements. As a result, it's found that the professionalism of the dental hygienists were under the influence of their self-development skills, organizational understanding and mathematical ability. To foster self-development skills, discussion method should be utilized, and team teaching should be used to improve organizational understanding. Besides, internship and on-the-job training should be managed in a more systematic way.

  • "Arts and Cultural Education Promotion Act" comes with institutionalization of arts and cultural education in Korea, and tends to mean facilitating occupational professionalism in historical perspectives. In particular, the nature of vocational identity of professional educators in arts and cultural education is the main focus of analysis and debate for human resource development. Accordingly, this study emphasizes the diversity of arts and cultural education practices and reveals that the vocational training of arts and cultural education experts should be based on various curriculum and programs which take an interdisciplinary approach. In this respect, excessive simplification of vocational identity of the experts may exert negative effect on the diversity and excellence of arts and cultural education. To meet the needs of the arts and cultural education, curriculum and training program for university level should be newly developed or revised through an interdisciplinary approach with the job analysis of practicing professionals.

  • In a rapidly changing Korean society, the role of home economics in ideological education and practical professionalism is faced to be reset. In this article the author reviews home economics and career opportunities. the following issues were discussed in detail : 1. Home Economics and Occupation ; a) As professionals in the field of home economics, job applicants must carry their message in person to potential employers. Employers must be taught that persons with home economics degrees have the capabilities and qualifications to fill a variety of positions. b) In may of 1977, Vocational Education Coalition was established by American Home economics association (AHEA), American Vocational Association, and Home Economics Education association This coalition defined the vocational education as occupation of homemaking and paid employment in home economics occupations for women and men. 2. Home Economics in business: Twelve percent of the total membership of the AHEA is affiliated with the home economics in business section. A professional management consultant, Dr. strain's viewpoint and corning Glass Work's case about business value in the home economics were summarized; a) Why a business employs a home economist. b) Why a business does not employ a home economist. c) Enhancing the home economist's value. d) Home economist's roles in corning Glass works. 3. Creating a Career: a) Mrs. Maineri's story. b) Family financial counselors. c) Home economist and displaced homemaker. d) Job opportunities in international services. Since the role of home economics in Korea has had little perception in professionalism, the following issues require immediate and serious attention to enhance career opportunities for home economists: Employers and government's recognition of home economist's value, Home economist's attitude to enhance their value, Fair employment and sex discrimination, Curricula adjustment, and Support from women's organization for employment opportunities, fair treatment, top jobs, etc.

Major Satisfaction and Professionalism according to DISC Behavior Patterns of Dental Hygiene Students

  • Objective: This study was performed to verify how DISC behavior patterns affect the major satisfaction and professionalism of dental hygiene students and provide basic data for dental hygiene students to have increased major satisfaction and maximize their strength by understanding their DISC behavior pattern. As a result, the following conclusion was obtained. Methods: The data was collected From November 1, 2018 to November 14, 2018, 218 dental hygiene students. Data was collected using self-reported questionnaires. Statistical analysis was performed with IBM SPSS ver. 21.0. Mean (standard deviation) and one-way ANOVA & pearson correlation were performed. Results: The most frequent DISC behavior patterns of dental hygiene students was steadiness types (49.0%) followed by influence types (34.5%), conscientiousness types (9.0%), and dominance types (7.5%). There were no significant difference in professionalism and major satisfaction according to DISC behavior patterns in dental hygiene students. There was a correlation between major satisfaction and professionalism of dental hygiene students. Conclusion: In conclusion, in order for dental hygiene students to establish positive professionalism through increased major satisfaction, it is necessary to make various efforts such as providing consultation and education that corresponds to each student's DISC behavior patterns. These efforts will provide the students career vision and encourage them to improve their academic achievement and find employment that fits their vocational aptitude.

The Meditating Effects of Public Employees Professionalism on the Relationship between Public Occupational Ethical Awareness and Organizational Commitment (공무원 직업윤리의식과 조직몰입의 관계에서 직업전문성의 매개효과)

  • Occupational ethical awareness is a system of norms and standards of behavior and an important component of professionalism that affects organizational performance and commitment. The purpose of this study is to examine the mediating effect of professionalism on the relationship between job ethics and organizational commitment of civil servants. A survey was conducted on 300 central government officials with more than one year of employment. 261 copies were used for the final analysis. The results are as follows. First, the vocational ethics of civil servants had a significant effect on professionalism. The higher the years of service, the higher the level of ethics. Second, the work ethic of public officials had a significant effect on organizational commitment. These results can be interpreted as the internal commitment of civil servants to the state of work ethic. Third, the mediating effect of professionalism was verified in the relationship between public morality and organizational commitment. Based on these results, the public ethics of public servants are the basis for accepting public values and goals. Vocational expertise with embedded codes of conduct and value systems influences organizational commitment. As a practical implication for improving the ethical ethics of public officials, education programs for improving ethical consciousness according to job titles and duties were provided, and the ethical ethical competence was presented.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate policy formation stage of Meister high schools. The study analyzed the differences in the recognition of teachers, students, parents, and vocational education specialists about policy evaluation for policy formation stage of Meister high schools. The conclusions based on the results of the study are as follows: First, in context area the recognition of students showed relatively low level. It reflects that the principle of democracy is needed to the policy formation stage of Meister high schools. The participation of stake holders in the policy formation stage is essential. Second, in input area teachers recognized that the financial resources were sufficient. Vocational education specialists recognized that human resources, such as excellent teachers and Meister teachers, needed to recruited adequately. Third, many policies and institutions need to be established for Meister high schools. The Meister high schools should be selected based on the principle of equity. In the selection process vocational education specialists should be included for the principle of professionalism.

Survey of Attitudes on Professionalism in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

  • Background The purpose of this study is to analyze the current attitudes toward professionalism, the core values, and the type of professionalism among plastic surgeons in Korea to establish a code of ethics regarding the role of professionalism for plastic and reconstructive surgeons. Methods From March 9, to July 1, 2012, face-to-face and mail surveys were conducted targeting the 325 participants (256 specialists and 69 residents) who are registered members of the Korean Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons. The proportion of each response given to an item was obtained through statistical processing through frequency analysis. The Mann-Whitney U test was used to compare the differences in the responses between the resident group and the specialist group. Results The survey results on the perception of professionalism in plastic surgery showed that a high proportion (90.5%) of the respondents viewed the future of plastic surgeons as bright. Through evaluation of the importance of the value items,"professional dominance" (4.58 pts), "autonomy" (4.45 pts), "lifestyle" (4.34 pts), and "commercialism" (4.31 pts) were assessed as critical values. "Altruism" (3.84 pts), "interpersonal competence" (3.79 pts), and "social justice" (3.61 pts) were viewed as lesser values. This difference showed the characteristics of an entrepreneurial outlook. Conclusions Plastic surgeons should pursue excellence, humanism, accountability, and altruism in order to overcome the crisis of professionalism in plastic surgery. In order to develop the necessary competencies of professionals, vocational education should be arranged by the Korean Society of Plastic Surgeons, and an appropriate code of ethics should be established.

Dental hygienist's job recognition and vocational competency reinforcement (치과위생사 직업인식과 직무역량 강화방안)

  • Objectives: The aim of this study was to analyze the qualities and problems to be solved to strengthen the vocational competency of dental hygienists and to identify the work to be institutionally established. Methods: From April 1 to May 30, 2019, a total of 325 people participated (152 registered dental hygienists: RDH, 173 students of dental hygiene: SDH) in this study. The survey items were as follows: "job awareness" (6 items), "problem to be solved to strengthen vocational competency" (5 items), "qualities to be equipped to strengthen"competency" (9 items), and "practical work to be institutionally established" (4 items). Results: RDH and SDH had the highest perception of professionalism (3.68, 3.99 points), and low remuneration against work (4.21, 4.18 points) was perceived as the most important problem to be solved. The qualities for competency reinforcement showed the highest results in expertise knowledge (4.68, 4.64 points) and vocation for job (3.76, 4.09 points). Practical work to be established institutionally appeared as follows: X-ray film reading, dental hygiene diagnosis, periodontal pocket measurement, and periodontal pockets (<6 mm) treatment. Conclusions: This study is expected to be actively used to strengthen the vocational competency among dental hygienists, construct work autonomy, and rationalize and legalize practical work.

The Effects of Clinical Practice Satisfaction, Nursing Image and Self-Esteem on Vocational Identity of Nursing Students (간호대학생의 임상실습만족도, 간호사 이미지 및 자아존중감이 진로정체감에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: This study is a descriptive study to investigate the effect of clinical practice satisfaction, nursing image and self-esteem on vocational identity of nursing students. Method: The subjects of this study were 200 nursing students majoring nursing science in D college, D city and seniors who took the clinical practice course. The date was analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, Pearson' correlation coefficients, stepwise and multiple regression using SPSS/WIN 22.0. program. Results: There was a statistically strong positive correlation between nursing image and self-esteem(r=.242, p=.001), vocational identity(r=.196, p=.009), clinical practice satisfaction(r=.542, p<.001). The factors influencing vocational identity were self-esteem(t=7.193, p<.001), aptitude and nursing belief of motivation for choosing nursing(t=5.472, p<.001), grade(t=-3.249, p=.001), professions of motivation for choosing nursing(t=2.694, p=.008), Satisfaction with nursing as a major(t=2.295, p=.023). The explanatory power of these models was 38.2%. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, to improve the vocational identity of nursing students in college, it is needed to develop nursing education program that strengthen self-esteem, aptitude and nursing belief, professions, satisfaction with nursing as major. Also it is needed a study on verifying application effects.
