  • Despite the number of developed theories, it still remains a difficult task for some established and emerging scholars in various academic fields to clearly articulate new theories from research studies. This paper reviews and collates the views of scholars on what a theory is and how a good theory can be developed. It explains the concept of a theory, and the different components that make up a theory. The paper discusses the different processes of theory development by emphasizing what theory is and what theory is not. This review found that scholars differ in their definition of a theory, which leads to using terms such as model, paradigm, framework, and theory interchangeably. It found the lack of theoretical constructs in a study to be one of the factors which explains why articles are rejected for publication. This paper may be of benefit to established researchers who may be struggling with theory development, and especially younger academics who are the future of scholarship in various academic fields, particularly in information science.

  • Three-dimensional (3D) video technologies are becoming increasingly popular, as it can provide users with high quality and immersive experiences. However, color inconsistency between the camera views is an urgent problem to be solved in multi-view imaging. In this paper, a perception-based color correction method for multi-view images is proposed. In the proposed method, human visual sensitivity (VS) and visual attention (VA) models are incorporated into the correction process. Firstly, the VS property is used to reduce the computational complexity by removing these visual insensitive regions. Secondly, the VA property is used to improve the perceptual quality of local VA regions by performing VA-dependent color correction. Experimental results show that compared with other color correction methods, the proposed method can greatly promote the perceptual quality of local VA regions greatly and reduce the computational complexity, and obtain higher coding performance.

  • In Saudi Arabia, female students tend to struggle with the basics of computer programming, especially coding. To better understand why female students sometimes perform poorly in this discipline, this qualitative study aims to obtain the views of female computer programming teachers at a Saudi university on using mobile learning (m-learning) methods in computer programming lectures. Ten teachers from the all-female Aljouf University were interviewed to assess their perceptions of m-learning, in particular, the usefulness of ViLLE visualisation software. Data were analysed using thematic analysis. Most interview responses about m-learning and ViLLE were positive, although there were some notable negative responses. The Saudi culture-related responses were evenly divided between positive and negative, reflecting the culture's limitations.

  • In this study, we operated science teacher learning community to enhance professionality of elementary science teachers. 8 participants with various background, which include their science content knowledge, teaching experience and beliefs about teaching, were involved in this study. Bales(1950)'s social interaction process framework was mainly used to understand the members' interaction, focusing particularly on process aspects not on contents aspects. The data analysis shows that the members in the science teacher learning community tried their best to maintain the positive reaction to other members in most occasions in the community meetings. On the other hand, there were also negative reaction process due to their different ideas and views, causing their emotional conflicts in some social relations and dialogical situations. Nevertheless, the results also imply that the dual reaction processes, which are positive and negative processes, are equally important to facilitate science teachers' professional knowledge and experience. The educational meanings are discussed in the aspects of science teacher education.

  • Quantitative methodology has been the predominent methodology utilized in research in nursing. However since the 1970s qualitative methodology has also emerged as a useful methodology and has been utilized by many researchers. But in the use of this methodology, the philosophical, epistemelogical, and theoretical backgrounds have been neglected by many researchers. This paper reports a review of the literature on methodologies, quanitative and qualitative, used in nursing, and makes suggestions for future research directions. It explains why qualitative methodology has emerged as as effective methodology in nursing and discusses how the qualitative methodology differs from the quanitative one. A comparison of the two is made based on perspectives of humane being and human behavior as well as the development of nursing science. This paper also presents several views on change in nursing science, since viewpoint not only influences the determination of the current stage of nursing science but also the shaping of the future directions of nursing science and research. Scientific revolution by Kuhn, the evolutionary perspective by Toulmin, the transition of research tradition by Laudan. and convolutionary processes are presented. However, this paper indicates that it is too early to adopt these points of view, because the history of nursing science is too short. It suggests that nursing needs pluralism in philosophy, paradigms and theory, as well as in methodology. Although we experience paradoxes in adopting different perspectives in nursing, it is wise for us to continue to include a variety of viewpoints including those to which we are not accustomed, such as qualitative methodology, since we are not yet able to decide what is best for the development of nursing science.

  • The tendency of multimedia services and market of specialized information is currently much debated issur in our country. Nevertheless, the systematic investigation of demand for multimedea database is nowadays nowhere to be found. The purpose of this study is to gain a general overview of market and demand of service relating to multimedea database. At first, various definitions of multimedia, multimedia content, and multimedia database are analysed and evaluated from the point of technical and practical views. For the study on the demand for multimedia database of specialized information, database catalogue of DPCK 1997 and multimedia database on internet are analysed. After that the results of expert survey to estimate an accurate tendency of multimedia services in Korea are analysed.

  • This article retrospects the developmental process of the psychology of learning and its' influence on mathematics education. At the end of the article, brain-based learning science is introduced to examine its possibility to improve the psychology of learning mathematics. Behaviorists points of views such as Skinner, Guthrie, and Gagne were summarized to discuss the influences on the learning and teaching of mathematics. Gestalt' theories and Constructivism are also included in the discussion of developmental process of learning psychology. In elaboration of the brain-based learning science, recent research findings and the possibility of it's impact on mathematics education were discussed. Since mathematics itself is the most abstract subject it could be more challenging to identify the teaming process of mathematics compared with other areas. The possibilities of identifying the teaming process of mathematics are cautiously anticipated with a help of new paradigm.

  • To rapidly respond to uncertainties in the business environment whilst remaining competitive, every organization needs to be able to successfully introduce and manage organizational change. Cognizant of the role of information systems (IS) as an enabler of organizational change, many organizations have paid attention to Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems for successful organizational change primarily because of their change-driving forces across organizations. This study focuses attention on the role of readiness for change in the ERP systems adoption. Readiness for change described as views about the need for organizational change is posited to be an antecedent of two expectancies about the system, performance expectancy and effort expectancy, which lead to actual system use. Based on data gathered from the users of the ERP systems, structural equation analysis using LISREL provides significant support for the proposed relationships.

  • The Korean government had enacted 'Special Regulation on the Safe Maintenance of Facilities' and carried out regular safety inspections since the mid-1990s, consequently establishing and enforcing an effective maintenance and management system. And throughout this entire process, the government searched for new methods to increase the overall effectiveness of the system. Nevertheless, the reality is that our society remains structurally unprepared to implement a commercial mindset that views the concept of "safety" as a product that can be traded in the open market based on supply and demand. Therefore, the government should establish mid to long-term plans to implement such a system in successive stages.

  • The United Kingdom and the United States are designating and implementing enterprise zones for the purpose of promoting the revitalization of the local economy. However, there are still mixed views on the effectiveness of the Enterprise Zone's policies. At this point, the purpose of this study is to look at policies in the form of enterprise zones in the country and see how these policies affect the revitalization of the local economy. As a result of the analysis, the areas designated as enterprise zones were becoming more economically vitalize than those that were not. In addition, it was analyzed that redundant designation of enterprise zones has a greater effect on regional economic revitalization than single designation.
