Improved CABAC for Lossless Video Compression (무손실 동영상 압축을 위한 향상된 CABAC)

  • In this paper, an improved CABAC is proposed for the lossless compression in H.264/AVC. CABAC in the lossless coding is not as efficient as that in the lossy compression since it was developed for lossy coding. CABAC for the lossless coding in H.26과/AVC Advanced 4:4:4 Profile is applied without the change of the conventional binarization method. Thus, a binarization method considering the statistical characteristic of residual signals is proposed for the lossless coding in 0.264/AVC Advanced 4:4:4 Profile. The experimental results show that the proposed method obtains approximately 3.4% bitrate reduction in comparison to that of the conventional lossless coding.

  • The PMU (Payload Management Unit) is the main subsystem for the management, control and power supply of the MSC (Multi-Spectral Camera) Payload operation. It is the most important function for the electro-optical camera system that performs the Non-Uniformity Correction (NUC) function of the raw imagery data, rearranges the data from the CCD (Charge Coupled Device) detector and output it to the Data Compression and Storage Unit (DCSU). The NUC board in PMU performs it. In this paper, the NUC board system is described in terms of the configuration and the function, the efficiency for non-uniformity correction, and the influence of the data compression upon the peculiar feature of the CCD pixel. The NUC board is an image-processing unit within the PMU that receives video data from the CEV (Camera Electronic Unit) boards via a hotlinkand performs non-uniformity corrections upon the pixels according to commands received from the SBC (Single Board Computer) in the PMU. The lossy compression in DCSU needs the NUC in on-orbit condition.

Quantization Parameter Determination Method for Face Depth Image Encoding (깊이 얼굴 영상 부호화에서의 양자화 인자 결정 방법)

  • In this paper, we propose a quantization parameter determination method for face depth image encoding in order to minimize an impact on a face recognition accuracy. When a face depth image is compressed through quantization in H.264/AVC, differential quantization parameters are assigned according to an accuracy of ellipsoid modeling prediction and an importance degree of a unit block in extracting facial features. The simulation results show that the face recognition success rates are improved by up to 6% at the same compression rates through the proposed compression rate determination method.

  • Real Time Transport Protocol (RTP) is the Internet standard protocol for transport of real time data audio/video IP Telephony, Multimedia Seivece. In case of 8kbps voice codec, the size of packet per data is 20bytes and become more large to minimal 40bytes with adding each layer's header in RTP/UDP/IP. To solve this problem, various header compression skill were suggested on point-to-point networks. But it compress even IP header and cannot be suitable to apply to end-to-end network Thus, We will renew header compression protocol to apply wired router-based network.

The effects of hands-only cardiopulmonary resuscitation education for undergraduates with severe visual impairment (중증시각장애 대학생을 대상으로 한 가슴압박소생술 교육효과)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of hands-only CPR education according to the American Heart Association (2015) guideline for undergraduates with severe visual impairment, to provide basic data for expanding the subject of hands-only CPR education among the visually impaired. Methods: Twenty-one students attending four universities in C Province, aged 19 years or older, were enrolled in this study. These students had severe visual impairment and no other disabilities and have never received hands-only CPR education. This study data were collected from December 1, 2017 to January 11, 2018. The accuracy of the participants' technique was measured using Brayden Pro CPR manikin. The data were analyzed using SPSS version 24.0. Results: Hands-only CPR education was effective in increasing confidence and accuracy of chest compression among undergraduates with severe visual impairment. Conclusion: These findings suggest that individuals with severe visual impairment should be given more educational opportunities. Additionally, subsequent studies should develop equipment that helps increase accuracy by using video aids with commentary or other auditory components for the visually impaired.

  • Generative adversarial networks (GAN) have been successfully used in many image restoration tasks, including image denoising, super-resolution, and compression artifact reduction. By fully exploiting its characteristics, state-of-the-art image restoration techniques can be used to generate images with photorealistic details. However, there are many applications that require faithful rather than visually appealing image reconstruction, such as medical imaging, surveillance, and video coding. We found that previous GAN-training methods that used a loss function in the form of a weighted sum of fidelity and adversarial loss fails to reduce fidelity loss. This results in non-negligible degradation of the objective image quality, including peak signal-to-noise ratio. Our approach is to alternate between fidelity and adversarial loss in a way that the minimization of adversarial loss does not deteriorate the fidelity. Experimental results on compression-artifact reduction and super-resolution tasks show that the proposed method can perform faithful and photorealistic image restoration.

Implementation of 4-channel Embedded DVR Based on Linux (리눅스 기반 4채널 임베디드 DVR 구현)

  • This paper describes the implementation of a 4 channel embedded DVR system. It receives analog video from CCD cameras and converts to 640${\times}$480 CCIR-656 digital video by 30 frames/sec. These digital images are compressed to the wevelet transformed image using hardware codec which is capable of 350:1 real-time compression and decompression. The DVR is working on linux and it implemented on an embedded system which is based on StrongARM processor. For the interface between processor system module and image processing module, GPIO and memory control module are used, device drivers are developed. Linux kernel source is customized. This paper provides techniques of embedded system development and embedded linux porting.

Teleoperation System of a Networked Mobile Robot Based on H_263 Video Codec (H_263 영상압축 방식을 이용한 인터넷 기반 탐사로봇의 원격 운용 시스템)

  • In this paper we present a teleoperation system of an internet-based mobile robot based on H.263 image compression algorithm. We control remotely the networked mobile robot with vision over the internet under unknown environments in the real time. The main feature of this system is that local operators need to download and install a client program and so they can command the robot in a remote location. Image information of remote location is compressed by H.263 video codec algorithm and then transmitted to a local operator. We constructed and tested a networked autonomous mobile robot in the real field. The experimental results show the usefulness of the robot under test.

  • For efficient transmission of 3DTV video signals, it is necessary to eliminate the inherent redundancy between the stereo image pairs. Though disparity estimation provides a powerful tool for eliminating the redundancy, it is very time consuming. This paper presents a novel disparity estimation scheme based on the human visual property. The disparity vectors of image blocks spatially adjacent to the current block are used as initial guesses fur the disparity vector of the current block. In addition, mixed-resolution coding is applied to reduce the computational complexity of disparity estimation. Through computer simulations on a stereoscopic sequence we show that the proposed method gives rise .to visually pleasing results with much reduced computational complexity.

  • 실시간 동영상의 전송을 위해 본 논문에서는 USB를 전송매체로 하여 구현했다. USB는 키보드, 스태너, 모뎀등 다양하게 사용되고 있는 인터페이스를 한나로 통일하고, 포트의 부족을 해결하기 위해서 개발된 것으로 고속의 데어터전송(12Mbps)을 가능하다. USB의 고속데이터 전송의 특징은 정지화상(JPEG) 뿐만 아니라 실시간 동영상(MPEG1, MPEG2)의 전송을 가능하게 한다. 본 논문에서는 USB로 실시간 동영상 전송을 위한 시스템 구조를 제시하였고 보다 효율적인 데이터 전송을 위한 USB Data Transfer Type에 관해 연구하였다. 720×480의 동영상의 압축을 위해 기존의 널리 이용되는 DCT대신 wevelet 알고리즘을 이용하였고 실시간 압축과 복원을 위해 video compression codec인 adv601를 사용하여 동영상 및 정지화상압축을 하였다. 또한 DSP(TMS320C32)를 이용하여 Quantization Bin Width Calculation을 함으로써 video bit stream의 크기를 가변적으로 제어하려 하였다. 이로서 동영상의 전송시 발생될 수 있는 데이터 병목현상을 해결 하였고 USB뿐만 아니라 다양한 통신망{ISDN(128Kbps), T1(1.5Mbps) T3(45Mbps)}에서의 동영상의 실시간 전송이 가능한 시스템 구조를 제시하였다.
