Cellulose based electro-active paper(EAPap) is considered as a new smart material which has a potential to be used for biomimetic actuators and sensors. Beside of the natural abundance, cellulose EAPap is fascinating with its biodegradability, lightweight, high mechanical strength and low actuation voltage. When the external stress is applied to EAPap, it can generate the electrical output due to its piezoelectric property. Using piezoelectric behavior of EAPap, we studied the feasibility of EAPap as mechanical strain sensor applications and compared to commercial strain sensor. By measuring the induced output voltage from the thin piezoelectric cellulose EAPap under static and dynamic force, we propose cellulose EAPap film as a potential strain sensor material.
To address the need for new intelligent sensing of systems, this study presents a novel strain sensor based on peizoresistivity of carbon nanotube (CNT) and its nanocomposites. Fabrication and characterization of the carbon nanocomposite material are discussed and an electrical model of the CNT strain sensor was derived based on electrochemical impedance spectroscopy analysis and strain testing. The dynamic response of the sensor on a vibrating beam was simulated using numerical analysis and it was compared with experimental test. The simulation showed good agreement with the strain response of the actual sensor.
This paper deals with sensing ability of smart sensor that has a sensing ability to distinguish materials according to frequency changing. We have developed a new signal processing method that can distinguish among different materials. The smart sensor was developed for recognition of materials. We estimated the sensing ability of smart sensor with the $R_{SAI}$ method according to frequency changing. Experiments and analysis were executed to estimate the ability to recognize objects according to frequency changing. Sensing ability of smart sensors was evaluated relatively through a new $R_{SAI}$ method. Applications of smart sensors are for finding abnormal conditions of objects (auto-manufacturing), feeling of objects (medical product), robotics, safety diagnosis of structure, etc.etc.
Optimal design of disk shaped piezoelectric actuator and sensor mounted on the plate structure is studied for the control of noise radiated fro the structure. The sensor signal is returned to the actuator through negative gain. Finite element modelling is used for the plate structure and the disk shaped piezoelectric sensor and actuator. The objective function is the total radiated sound power and the design variables are the locations and sizes of the piezoelectric actuator and sensor. The optimal is performed at the resonance and the off resonance frequency and the results show good noise reduction.
This paper presents the vibration characteristics of a cantilever beam in contact with a fluid using a PZT actuator and PVDF film. dynamic behaviors of a flexible beam-water interaction system are examined. The effect of the liquid level on free vibration of the composite beam in a partially liquid-filled circular cylinder is investigated. The coupled system is subject to an undisturbed boundary condition un the fluid domain. In the vibration analysis of a wetted beam. the decoupled analyses between beam and fluid have been conventionally employed by considering first the composite beam vibration in the all and secondly Performing the correction taking account for surrounding fluid effects. That is, this investigation was to look at how natural frequencies, mode shapes. and damping are affected by liquid level variations. The signals from the sensor according to the applied input voltage are digitalized and filtered in order to obtain the dynamic characteristics of the composite beam in contact with fluid. It was found that the coupled natural frequencies decreased with the fluid level for the identical composite beam due to added mass effect. In case of the free-free boundary condition, the natural frequency gently decreased at fluid water level between 20% and 80% in the first tending mode and we found out the bends of stair shape for added mass effect of the fluid.
It is often necessary to predict the vibration patterns of the structures from the signals of finite number of vibration sensors. This study presents the optimal placement of vibration sensors by applying the genetic algorithm and the modal expansion method. The modal expansion method is used to estimate the vibration response of the whole structure. The genetic algorithm is used to estimate the optimal placement of vibration sensors. Optimal sensor placement can be obtained so that the fitness function is minimized in the genetic algorithm. This paper discusses the comparison of the performances of two types of fitness functions, modal assurance criteria(MAC) and condition number( CN). As a result, the estimation using MAC shows better performance than using CN.
The diagnosis of the failure for the existing electrical facilities was based on regular preventive maintenance, but this preventive maintenance was limited in preventing a lot of cost loss and sudden system failure. To overcome these shortcomings, fault prediction and diagnostic techniques are critical to increasing system reliability by monitoring electrical installations in real time and detecting abnormal conditions in the facility early. As the performance and quality deterioration problem occurs frequently due to the increase in the number of users of the motor pump, the purpose is to build an intelligent control system that can control the motor pump to maximize the performance and to improve the quality and reliability. To this end, a vibration sensor, temperature sensor, pressure sensor, and low water level sensor are used to detect vibrations, temperatures, pressures, and low water levels that can occur in the motor pump, and to build a system that can identify and diagnose information to users in real time.
The machining-chatter stands for a sudden relative vibration appeared between a material and a tool while processing with a machine. This chatter is key factor that seriously affects the quality of processed materials as well as being a factor which causes serious damages to the tool and the machine. This study is related to the monitoring and smart control of chatter problem that can compensate machining-chatter faster and produce processed goods with more precision by autonomous compensation. The above-mentioned machining-chatter compensator includes the chatter vibration sensor and the chatter compensator that estimates the compensation value according to the sensor detecting the chatter vibration of machine-tool and the chatter vibration detected from the sensor while having a feature of being organized by interlocking with the machine-tool controller.
