A Study on the Improvement of the Floor Impact Sound Insulation Performance in Wall Slab Type Apartment (벽식구조 공동주택의 바닥충격음 개선에 대한 연구)

  • Floor impact sound has been most annoying for years among the noises which are produced in apartment. This study aims to analyze the improvement of floor impact sound by comparing the results of the test which was carried out for the wall slab type apartment and moment frame apartment, and also for the effect of advanced vibration isolation layer. Moment frame structure that main structure consists of column and slab has shown better performance for the heavyweight impact sound comparing with wall slab type structure which is general type in Korea. Stiffness of floor system was raised by reinforcing the stiffness of vibration isolation layer, and it was analyzed how much the floor impact sound performance was improved. The result showed that the reinforced floor had better performance than the existing floor system that uses lightweight porous concrete as vibration isolation material. In addition, a system used wire mesh in mortar showed improvement of floor impact sound than a system without wire mesh, and better performance for the frequency bands lower than 160 Hz which causes floor impact problem in wall slab type apartment.

New Development of Two-Dimensional Sound Quality Index for Brand sound in Passenger Cars (승용차 브랜드 사운드를 위한 이차원 음질 인덱스 개발)

  • In automotive engineering, the brand sound is one of the important advantage strategy in a car company. For the design of brand sound, the selection of descriptive word for a car sound is one of major works in automotive sound quality research. In paper, booming sound and rumbling sound, which are professional words used by NVH engineers are used for the design of brand sound. We employed sound metrics which are the subjective parameter used in psychoacoustics. According to most research results, the relationship between subjective evaluations and sound metrics has nonlinear characteristics and is very complex. In order to link these subjective evaluations to sound metrics, the artificial neural network technology has been applied to two-dimensional sound quality index for a passenger car. These indexes is used for 46 passenger cars, which are samples of famous cars in the world. Also the preference in car sounds is evaluated by the trained NVH engineers. We coupled this preference with booming and rumbling sounds by using artificial neural network. In future, the two -dimensional sound index and preference index are very useful fur the development of brand sound in passenger cars.

  • The purpose of vehicle horn sound is for warning to pedestrians. In the past, the main development factor is to match the regulation level. But nowadays perceived quality is more important than level itself. In this study, we measure variety horn sound and evaluate its signals through the jury evaluation aimed at making horn sound quality index. Each contribution of the noise path for sound quality is identified and the target values and methods for implementing the luxurious horn sound are suggested. Finally, we developed, horn component and improve horn mounting condition for luxurious horn sound.

  • Generally, sound-absorbing materials in vehicles are used for giving the comfort to passengers by reducing noise while driving. Materials of which targets are light weight, high performance, eco friendliness and recycling have been developed recently. In this study, sound-absorbing materials using PET(polyethylene terephthalate) hollow fibers to achieve the light weight and the high sound absorption performance are developed, and then evaluated to meet a requirement for the automotive components. The test results show that the acoustic performances of developed products having new fiber structure are better than those of the conventional product.

  • Rumbling sound is one of the most important interior sound of a passenger car. The conventional rumbling noise research was focused on the reduction of the A-weighted sound pressure level. However A-weighted sound pressure level can not give the whole story about the rumbling sound of a passenger car. In this paper, we employed sound metric which is the subjective parameter used in psycoacoustics. According to recent research results, the relation between sound metrics and subjective evaluation is very complex and has nonlinear characteristics. In order to estimate this nonlinear relationship, artificial neural network theory has been applied to derivation of sound quality index for rumbling sound of a passenger car.

Correlation of Single-Number Ratings for Sound Insulation by Floor Impact (바닥충격음 차단성능 단일수치 평가방법별 상관성에 대한 조사연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest the correlation of single-number ratings for sound insulation by floor impact. As a assessment method of impact sound insulation. we selected the IIC contour of ISO, A weighted sound level. Inverse A-weighting curve and L-Index of japanese industrial standard. And we estimated the single-number ratings by application the measured data of impact sound level to each method. The results showed that the coefficients of determination between each two single-number ratings were very high (more than 0.9169). And In the condition of same assessment method, the coefficient of determination for light-weight impact sound was higher than that for heavy-weight impact sound.

  • Driving sound is an effective element to promote the product identity of a vehicle by providing customers with attractive sound which reflects the concept of a vehicle. Recently, major automakers are focusing on the target sound setting so that the sound can represent the brand image as well as the unique concept of a vehicle. In this study, a new method of target setting for the driving sound will be introduced based on using formant filter and musical harmonics characteristics. In addition, a target sound suggested from this method will be realized and verified by using active noise control in vehicle.

  • What does sound look like if we can see it? It might depend on the acoustic variables we want to see. In this article, we propose various ways to visualize or express sound field in much more intuitive manner. In particular, new visualization schemes that can effectively visualize sound intensity and 3D pressure field are proposed. This allows us to represent sound pressure, particle velocity and acoustic conductance at the same time, even in three-dimensional coordinate. Visualization examples corresponding to the proposed techniques show that we can successfully transfer the meaning of physical variable to visual space.

  • We report the number of calibration and test for acoustic field which were conducted in KRISS between the year of 1990 and 2001. The items contain sound level meter and calibrator for calibration and sound absorption coefficient, transmission loss, sound pressure level of siren, sound pressure level and power of acoustic instrument and relative accessories for test. The data show that the number of them have been increased continuously.

The Effect of the Disturbing Wave on the Speech Intelligibility of the Eavesdropping Sound of a Window Glass (교란파가 유리창 진동음의 음성명료도에 미치는 영향)

  • The speech sound is detected by the vibration measurement of the window glass. In this study, we investigate the effect of the disturbing waves by background noise and window shaker excitation on the speech intelligibility of the detected sound. Based upon Modulation Transfer Function(MTF), speech intelligibility of the sound is objectively estimated by Speech Transmission Index(STI) As the level of the disturbing wave varies, variation of the speech intelligibility is examined. Experimental result reveals how STI is influenced by the level and frequency characteristics of the disturbing wave. By using a customized window shaker for disturbing sound, we evaluate the efficiency and the frequency characteristics of the anti-eavesdropping system. The purpose of the study is to provide useful information to prevent the eavesdropping through the window glass.
