  • This study is to analyze the characteristics of golf course water usage using groundwater and rainwater data obtained from 17 golf courses in Jeju Island during 2007~2009. The groundwater usages were 246,275 $m^3/year$, 213,062 $m^3/year$, 155,235 $m^3/year$, and 126,666 $m^3/year$ in the west, south, east, and north regions, respectively. Monthly rate of the amount of groundwater usage to the amount of permission was 29.5%. The rainfall usages were 386,591 $m^3/year$, 326,464 $m^3/year$, 251,248 $m^3/year$, and 232,061 $m^3/year$ in the south, west, east, and north regions, respectively. Monthly rate of rainwater usage to the amount of water retention of golf courses was 19.6%. The average annual water usage in the 17 golf courses was 499,377 $m^3/year$. From the average usage, it was found that the rainwater usage (305,126 $m^3/year$ ) was 1.6 times higher than that of groundwater (194,251 $m^3/year$ ). That means the annual average rainwater usage to the entire water usage was 61.1%, which was above the criteria of 40%.

  • Component-based Development(CBD) based on the software reuse has been more attractive from software companies that want to enhance software productivity. However, since component identification process is mainly dependent on domain expert´s intuition and experience, it was very difficult to develop tools for supporting the component identification process. In this paper, we propose a systematic procedure of identifying reusable component by using object dependencies and object usages and provide a design and implementation of its supporting tool. In object-oriented domain models. there exists several diagrams which are described in different viewpoints. From these diagrams, object dependency and object usages are extracted and merged into an object dependency network, which is a basis for performing a comfonent identification algorithm. Finally, through a case study of internet banking system, we evaluate the applicability of the proposed identification process and tool.

  • This paper presents a model to estimate the amount of $CO_2$ emitted by cars in cities. Based on the spatial configuration of street networks, building masses and usages, it first develops a deductive model to combine them in a way to account for $CO_2$ emission amount by cars. It then proceed to validate model behaviours through a series of simulations on some ideal urban settings and finally calibrate it following its real application to the five case study cities in Korea. In contrast to the conventional 'top-down' approaches, we expect our model to have high utilities, particularly in the field of urban planning and design, where we cannot but deal directly with the spatial configuration of urban components and microscopic human activities.

  • We have developed a noncontact temperature sensor using a silver halide optical fiber. The infrared collimator and focus head are connected both ends of a silver halide optical fiber with SMA connectors and used to collimate radiations of a heat source and to focus them to infrared sensors such as a pyroelectric sensor and a thermopile sensor, respectively. The relation ships between the temperatures of a heat source and the output signals of the infrared sensors are determined to measure the surface temperature of a heat source. The measurable temperature range is from 25 to $60^{\circ}C$. It is expected that a noncontact temperature sensor using a silver halide optical fiber can be developed for medical usages such as temperature monitoring during hyperthermia, cryosurgery, laser surgery and diagnostic procedure based on the results of this study.

  • Pubescent Angelica is generally used in musculoskeletal diseases of lower extremity, itching, external contraction (外感) and furuncle, with the effect of dispelling wind, draining dampness, dispersing the external (解表) and stopping pain. The disease parts of Treasured Mirror of Eastern Medicine (東醫寶鑑) contain 121 examples of the usage of Pubescent Angelica. Cases of musculoskeletal diseases and itching are mainly in the External Bodily Elements section (外形篇), and those of external contraction and furuncle are mainly in the Miscellaneous Disorder section (雜病篇). Internal Bodily Elements section (內景篇) has 10 prescriptions that involve Pubescent Angelica, in Dreams (2), Voice (1), Uterus (4), Parasites (1), and Feces (2) chapters. Their specific symptoms are insomnia and sleep paralysis (Dreams), loss of voice due to external contraction (Voice), uterine hemorrhage (Uterus), phthisis (Parasites), and constipation and diarrhea (Feces). It is not easy for students beginning their clinical training to link the effects of Pubescent Angelica and its actual usage, especially in the area of internal medicine. By Analyzing the whole cases of Pubescent Angelica in the Treasured Mirror, we found various usages out of reach of basic knowledge of the herb. Such method can be utilized not only in developing herbal knowledge-based products, but also in improving Korean medicine education, by enhancing the occupational competency bridging basic and clinical knowledge.

  • Solar energy is a quantitatively unlimited, clean and non-pollutant source. It has a great potential for industrial commercial usages. For example, solar hot water system for domestic usage has been very popular in many counties. In Korea, the industries consume 47.7% of the total national energy, and the manufacturing sector uses 91.5% out of it. The main energy resoures available in Korea are oils, coals, and gases. There have been continuous efforts among the industries to reduce such energy consumptions by using alternative energy resources, such as solar energy, yet the technology has limited its proper applications to a level of satisfaction. In some advanced countries, research and development programs in solar energy applicable to the industrial usages are very active, and some systems are in the commercial market. Therefore, this paper describes the status and the feasibility for high-efficiency evacuated solar collector which was anticipated to applied for industrial process heat as an alternative of fossil energy.

  • The purpose of this study was to gather baseline data to be used for improving housing environments and developing welfare policies for low-income groups by identifying the similarities and differences in housing environmental conditions and in the usages of community welfare services between the dwellers of Da-Ka-Gu rental housing and those of permanent rental apartment. This multifaceted diagnosis currently being undertaken can be utilized through the lowincome housing planning and welfare policies as the basis for future policy formulation. Self-administered questionnaires and interviews were carried out by 212 dwellers in Da-Ka-Gu rental housing (104) and permanent rental apartments (108) in the city of Gwangju from July to October of 2010. The main findings are as follows: 1. The dwellers living in both Da-Ka-Gu rental housing and permanent rental apartments are satisfied with their housing environment. Specifically, a higher satisfaction with transportation and a lower satisfaction with neighbor's inter-relationships were evident. The dwellers of Da-Ka-Gu rental housing appear to be more satisfied with community spaces and housing management than those of the permanent rental apartments, whereas the latter appear to be less satisfied with the noise of the housing complex than the former. 2. Of the community welfare service programs, a higher usage is shown for meals service, free health screenings, home repair, and after-school learning programs among all residents in the two housing types. In particular, for the residents of Da-Ka-Gu rental housing, the children's education and parent education programs are more popular, whereas for those of the permanent rental apartments, the housekeeping services and health services utilization are highest.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate musk deer in taxonomic status and genus species. We investigated the characteristic of musk deer for medicinal usages. Methods : To identifications of musk deer on the taxonomic status and genus species, the literary investigation were conducted on the Korean, China, and Japan pharmacopoeia and published herbal books, CITES Species Lists too. Results : Musk deer placement in a separate family status is the Moschidae. M. chrysogaster Hodgson and M. sifanicus Przewalski was the same species. So, Alpine musk deer revised M. chrysogaster Hodgson[=M. sifanicus Przewalski]. Geographic distribution of M. moschiferus L. divided Sibirica group and himalaica group. Group himalaica contains three subspecies: Korean musk deer(M. moschiferus parvipes Hol.), Chinese musk deer(M. chrysogaster Hodgson), and Himalayan musk deer(M. leucogaster Hodgson). The genetic divergence between M. moschiferus L. and other species was clearly distinguished from the others. M. berezovskii Flerove was less than the others. However, the divergence among M. chrysogaster Hodgson, M. fuscus Li, and M. leucogaster Hodgson were quite low. Musk deers are mostly distributed around the high-plateau. Moschus were from Nepal, Bhutan, Russia, China. Forest musk deer(M. berezovskii Flerove) farming was conducted in China from 1950s. In the Korean hebal pharmacopoeia, Moschus include l-muscone($C_{16}H_{30}O$ : 238.40) over 2% for quantitative test. Conclusions : There are three species of musk deer, Siberian musk deer(M. moschiferus L.), forest musk deer(M. berezovskii Flerove), and Alpine musk deer(M. chrysogaster Hodgson) for medicinal usages.
