  • Artificial intelligent (AI) smart speaker sales have increased rapidly, and AI technology has become more pervasive in our daily lives. This study explored motivations for smart speaker use and examined how motivation and relationship type with AI speakers affect enjoyment. Smart speaker use is primarily motivated by conversational, trend-leading, efficient, and entertaining factors. Among these four, trend-leading, efficient, and entertaining factors positively influenced users' enjoyment. However, among the three types of relationship with AI speakers, only the assistant/helper type affected enjoyment. The results of the current study provide practical implications for future directions in AI speaker interaction design.

  • The purposes of this study were to investigate the intercorrelations among various motivational patterns and learning strategies and to examine the differences in motivation and strategy usage in terms of students' science achievement level, gender, and grade. A questionnaire on achievement goal, self-efficacy, self-concept of ability, expectancy, value, causal attributions, and learning strategies was administered to 360 junior high/high school students (178 males, 182 females). Students who adopted performance-oriented goal tended not to be task oriented. Task-oriented students had high levels of self-efficacy, high self-concept of ability, and expectancies for future performance in science. They also valued science and attributed thier failures to the lack of effort. However, performance-oriented students evaluated their ability negatively, did not value science, and attributed thier failures to uncontrollable causes. With respect to learning strategy, task-oriented students tended to use deep-level strategy, whereas performance-oriented students tended to use surface-level strategy and not to use deep-level strategy. High-achieving students, boys, and junior high school students were more task-oriented, evaluated their ability more positively, and valued science more than low-achieving students, girls, and high school students, respectively. High-achieving students and boys also used deep-level strategy more than each of their counterparts. However, no significant difference in learning strategy was found between junior high school students and high school students. Educational implications of these findings are discussed.

The analysis was performed using the National Information Society Agency's 2018 digital divide survey data from September to December 2018 and applying the Heckman selection model to control the sample selection bias that may occur between internet users and non-users. The result shows the gap in motivation and device operational skills of individual citizens using digital devices has significant impact on online political participation. In socio-economic terms, it shows the age, education level and regional factors also have significant impact on online political participation, while gender and income levels do not. This study holds significance in that there are different patterns of digital divide between digital devices, identifying the motivation to use a digital device as an important factor for mobile device users, and the device operational skills, for personal computer users.

  • The study aimed to investigate the motivation and user satisfaction of medical school graduate students using specific academic information sites, and examines the effect of usage motivation factors on user satisfaction. This study was conducted from September 10, 2018 to September 21, 2018 by a large medical school graduate student in Seoul, and analyzed 135 valid responses. According to the analysis, the degree of reliability and interactivity of PubMed is higher than that of Google Scholar in medical school graduate students' use of academic information sites. It was found to have a significant effect on user satisfaction of academic information sites. In particular, convenience has the greatest influence on users' choice of academic information sites. The results of the study are of theoretical implications in that the discussion of academic information services through web sites is explained in terms of use and satisfaction in the context of medical information. On the other hand, specific research results provide practical implications for improving the services of medical-related academic search engines.

  • This study investigates the potential components for academic research collaboration, and the factors that make it possible to achieve higher academic productivity. The components include collaboration factors and a collaboration model. We use two major collaboration factors to develop a framework for understanding the mechanisms that influence academic research collaborations: motivational factors and mediating factors. Motivational factors include self-motivation and trust whereas mediating factors are collaboration orientation and peer support. We analyze the effect for use of e-collaboration with research performance, reward, and satisfaction with e-research output. A survey of academicians was conducted, and by using the factor analysis and the structural equation model with SPSS 20 AMOS, we illustrate the possible influence of these factors on research performance and satisfaction. We discovered that both motivational and mediating factors play important roles on the success of academic research. This study offers several implications for academicians. We develop a parsimonious research model, which is related to e-collaboration in academic research. This unique model offers academicians to achieve good publication output from the research team. The motivational factor, self-motivation and trust, are important factors which has received positive impact of mediating factor collaboration orientation and peer support. Our research sheds light on the crucial factors for use of e-collaboration which offer the ultimate effect on performance and satisfaction with e-research output. Satisfaction motivates people to work more and more on the field of their interest, thereby influencing the performance of academicians. Rewards should be distributed according to performance of the individual, which will motivate the person to become more enthusiastic for his work of interest. Our evidence suggests that in understating the collaborative process, one must account for the context in which the collaboration occurs, the motivation of the collaborators, the scope and nature of the project, the roles and activities undertaken, and interpersonal processes such as trust. Researchers' motivations for engaging in collaboration were both instrumental and intrinsic.

For this purpose, this study built a research model that considered how the personality trait perspective(agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism, extraversion, openness) and the use motivation perspective(utilitarian, hedonic and social use motivations) work together to explain compulsive use of YouTube. The survey method was used for this paper, and data from a total of 165 were used for the analysis. And structural equation model was used to analyze the data. The results of this empirical study is summarized as followings. First, both agreeableness and conscientiousness have a negative effect on compulsive use of YouTube. Second, utilitarian use motivation has a negative effect on compulsive use of YouTube. The results of this study are meaningful in that it not only alerts YouTube users to the risks of compulsive YouTube use, but also helps them to develop self-management strategies.
