The growth and amino acid contents of the cyanobacterium, Spirulina platensis strain NIES 46, were investigated using ammonium, nitrate, nitrite, or urea as the sole nitrogen source in a batch culture. Chlorophyll a concentration was highest at 2,096$\mu\textrm{g}$/L in the nitrate group after 10days of cultivation, while the dry weight of S. platensis was highest at 4.5g/L in the ammonium group after 30days of cultivation. The total amino acid content was highest at 174mg/g dry weight of S. platensis in the urea group at the end of the cultivation period, yet the amino acid patterns for S. platensis were similar for all the experimental groups. Therefore, it seemed that the growth and amino acid composition of S. platensis varied depending on the type of nitrogen sources, while the amino acid patterns were not changed. Also, the most efficient harvesting time for S. platensis seemed to be approximately 10 days after cultivation.
The present study was carried out to evaluate the effect of Panax ginseng on the metabolism of nonprotein nitrogen compounds in rabbit blood. After rabbits were administered with ginseng powder orally for 30 days or with ginseng extract intraperitoneally for 10 days, the blood was collected from portal and ear vein to measure ammonia, urea, creatinine and nonprotein nitrogen. The blood ammonia level in ear vein of control rabbits was $87.0{\pm}5.1{\mu}g/100ml$ and was not significantly different from that of rabbits which were administered with ginseng powder orally or with ginseng extract intraperitoneally. But oral administration of ginseng powder produced a great decrease in ammonia level of portal vein from 1,392 to $704{\mu}g$ per 100ml, suggesting that intestinal ammonia production is suppressed by ginseng powder due to its antimicrobial activity. While there was no significant difference between the control and the rabbits which were administered with ginseng extract intraperitoneally. Ginseng administration had no effect on the creatinine level in blood from ear and portal vein, except the intraperitoneal injection of ginseng extract. It slightly lowered the creatinine level only in ear vein blood. The values of urea and nonprotein nitrogen were net affected by the administration of ginseng.
This research was conducted to investigate the changes of $NH_4-N$ in soil, nitrogen uptake by rice plant, nitrogen-use efficiency and rice yield by the application of latex coated urea(LCU) on 10-day old seedling transplanted with machine on paddy field, Jeonbuk series at the Honam area, from 1997 to 1998. Almost all nitrogen in LCU application as basal dressing in whole layer was dissolved until maximum tiller stage, the maximum dissolution time was productive tiller stage and $NH_4-N$ content of conventional plot with surface application of fertilizer were lowered at full periods. Nitrogen deficiency symptom were appeared at heading stage of 31.6% SPAD value and nitrogen concentration was 1.29% shoot. From heading stage to ripening stage, the necessity of nitrogen-fertilizer was $2.9kg\;ha^{-1}$ for the conventional split application plot and $11.9kg\;ha^{-1}$ for the whole layer application plot of LCU basal dressing. Nitrogen-use efficiency was higher at the LCU application plot than the conventional application plot and was increased for 12.7% by fertilization at panicle forming stage. The additional fertilization at panicle forming stage to basal dressing of LCU causes 13% yield increase.
A 2 ${\times}$ 2 factorial experiment was conducted to determine the effect of cecectomy and urea supplementation on nitrogen utilization In growing chicks. Birds were either cecectomized or shamoperated and fed a 19% protein diet with or without 1% urea supplementation. All chicks were provided ad libitum access to feed and water throughout the six-day experimental period. In the cecectomized chicks, fred efficiency was significantly decreased when fed a 19% protein diet supplemented with 1% urea (P<0.05). When chicks were fed a 19% protein diet, cecectomy significantly shortened gastrointestinal passage time (GPT) of food (P<0.05). However, the GPT was significantly lengthened in chicks fed a 19% protein diet supplemented with urea (P<0.05). Regardless of diets, cecectomized chicks increased the moisture contents of the excreta (P<0.05) and feeding a 1% dietary urea also significantly increased (P<0.05). Cecectomy significantly decreased uric acid N excretion by about 30 mg per 100 g body weight per day (P<0.05) and uric acid N/ total N excretion when fed both diets (P<0.05). The present study suggests that cecectomy improves nitrogen utilization rate by decreasing uric acid excretion in growing chicks. These results are in good agreement with those obtained previously in a cecectomy study of adult chickens.
To investigate the effect of N split application on the increasing ratio of yield and the yield of rice, urea and slow-releasing complex for sideband placement of fertilizer were applied in Jeonbuk series of Honam plain area. Increasing ratio of yield by N split application was higher in puddled drill seeding (PDS) than flooded direct seeding surface (FDSS) under split application of 40-0-30-30% and 70-0-0-30% at basal, 3 leaf, 5 leaf and panicle initiation stage, respectively. It was also higher in LCU application of 70 % of total urea amount than urea application but was not different between two methods of seeding in urea application. Nitrogen ratio transfered to rough grain of rice was higher in FDSS than PDS, errespective of methed of split application, except for the split application of 0, 40, 30 and 30% N fertilizer at basal, 3 leaf, 5 leaf and panicle initiation stage, respectively. Nitrogen amount outflowed by artificial drainage for paddy field drying in a day after application of fertilizer was 1,134g/10a in PDS. $NH_4-N$ incerased higher in PDS than FDSS under split application of urea, while was versa under LCU application.
In order to investigate the effect of different sources of energy on intake and nutrient utilization from urea molasses mineral block (UMMB), rumen fermentation pattern and blood biochemical constituents, 18 intact and 9 rumen fistulated male Murrah buffaloes aged about 3 years and average weight 310.8 kg were randomly allocated into three groups of 9 animals in each, thus each group having 6 intact and three rumen fistulated buffaloes. All animals were fed individually for 90 days. All buffaloes were offered wheat straw as basal roughage and urea molasses mineral block for free choice of licking. Three different energy sources viz., barley grain, (group I), maize grain (group II) and jowar green (group III) were offered to meet their nutrient requirement as per Kearl (1982). At the end of feeding trial, a metabolism trial of 7 days duration was carried out on intact animals to determine the digestibility of nutrients. Rumen fermentation studies were carried out on rumen fistulated animals. After the metabolism trial blood was collected from intact animals to estimate the nitrogen constituents in blood serum of animals fed on different sources of energy. Results revealed no significant difference in the intake of UMMB in three groups. Similarly, the intake of DM (kg), DCP (g) and TDN (kg) per day was similar in three groups statistically. The apparent digestibility of dry matter (DM), organic matter (OM), ether extract (EE) and nitrogen free extract (NFE) was significantly (p<0.05) more in group II than group III, whereas the digestibility of DM, OM and NFE was similar in group I and II. The digestibility of crude fiber (CF) and all the fiber fractions i.e. NDF, ADF, cellulose and hemicellulose was alike in 3 groups. Nitrogen balance (g/d) was significantly (p<0.05) more in group III as compared to group I and II, which were alike statistically, though the N intake (g/d) was similar in 3 groups but N balance (g/d) was significantly (p<0.05) less in group III as compared to other 2 groups. Significantly (p<0.05) higher concentration of total volatile fatty acids (TVFA), total nitrogen (TN) and its fractions were observed in group I and II as compared to group III. There was no effect on rumen pH, rumen volume and digesta flow rate due to different sources of energy in 3 groups. Similarly the blood serum biochemical parameters (NH3-N, urea-N and total protein) were statistically identical in 3 groups.

This experiment was conducted to investigate effects of phase feeding and sugar beet pulp (SBP) on growth performance, nutrient digestibility, nitrogen excretion, blood urea nitrogen (BUN) concentration and carcass characteristics in finishing pigs. A total of 128 pigs were allotted at 53.9 kg BW to 8 replicates in a 2$\times$2 factorial arrangement in a randomized complete block (RCB) design. The first factor was phase feeding (2 or 3 phase feeding) and SBP (SBP: 0% or 10%) was the second factor. Ten percent SBP supplement groups showed lower average daily feed intake (ADFI) than 0% SBP supplement groups (p<0.05). However, there were no significant difference in average daily gain (ADG) and feed:gain ratio among treatments during overall experimental period. Nutrient digestibility was not affected by phase feeding or SBP supplementation. Urinary nitrogen excretion in 10% SBP supplement group was lower than that in 0% SBP supplement group (p<0.05) and total nitrogen excretion was lower in SBP supplement group than in the group without SBP. Urinary and total nitrogen were numerically decreased in three phase feeding compared to two phase feeding. The BUN concentration in three phase feeding groups was lower than two phase feeding groups at 47 and 63 day (p<0.05). Consequently, results of this experiment demonstrated that three phase feeding was more acceptable than two phase feeding for finishing pigs. And sugar beet pulp could be supplemented in finishing pig diet for decreasing urinary nitrogen excretion without retardation in growth performance of pigs.

Eight crossbred (75% Holstein Friesian) cows in mid-lactation were randomly assigned to a switchback design with a 2x2 factorial arrangement to evaluate two nonstructural carbohydrate (NSC) sources (corn meal and cassava chips) with different rumen degradability and used at two levels of NSC (55 vs. 75%) with protein source (supplied by urea in the concentrate mix). The treatments were 1) Low degradable low level of corn (55%) 2) Low degradable high level of corn (75%) 3) High degradable low level of cassava (55%) and 4) High degradable high level of cassava (75%). The cows were offered the treatment concentrate at a ratio to milk yield at 1:2. Urea-treated rice straw was offered ad libitum as the roughage and supplement with 1 kg/hd/d cassava hay. The results revealed that total DM intake, BW and digestion coefficients of DM were not affected by either level or source of energy. Rumen fermentation parameters; NH3-N, blood urea nitrogen and milk urea nitrogen were unaffected by source of energy, but were dramatically increased by level of NSC. Rumen microorganism populations were not affected (p>0.05) by source of energy, but fungal zoospores were greater for cassava-based concentrate than corn-based concentrate. Milk production and milk composition were not affected significantly by diets containing either source or level of NSC, however concentrate than corn-based concentrate averaging (4.4 and 4.2, respectively). Likewise, income over feed, as estimated from 3.5% FCM, was higher on cassava-based concentrate than corn-based concentrate averaging (54.0 and 51.4 US$/mo, respectively). These results indicate that feeding diets containing either cassava-based diets and/or a higher of oncentrates up to 75% of DM with NPN (supplied by urea up to 4.5% of DM) can be used in dairy rations without altering rumen ecology or animal performance compared with corn-based concentrate.

In the existing research, the ammonia aqueous solution was used in order to remove the Nitrogen dioxide using the scrubber. However, ammonia is poisonous and stench is extreme. So, the system application follows the difficulty. Experiments were conducted to find a substitute material ammonia. The sodium hydroxide(NaOH), sodium thiosulfate ($Na_2S_2O_3$), and urea were used with the substitute substance. The experimental condition proceeded as the optimum conditions in the existing ammonia use. The experimental result NaOH and $Na_2S_2O_3$ was available. NaOH showed the efficiency which is the highest in 2.5%. And $Na_2S_2O_3$ showed the efficiency which is the highest in 5.0%. The efficiency was not fixed and the urea was inappropriate with the substitute substance.

Urea reacts with PtCl2, H2[PtCl6]·6H2O, H2[IrCl6] and Ni(CH3CO2)2 in aqueous solution at high temperature (60-80 °C) yielding [PtCl2(Urea)]·2H2O (1), (NH4)2[PtCl6] (2), (NH4)2[IrCl6]·H2O (3) and [Ni2(OH)2(NCO)2(H2O)2] (4) complexes, respectively. In complex 1, urea coordinates to Pt(II) as a neutral bidentate ligand via amido nitrogen atoms. In complexes 2, 3 and 4 it seems that the coordinated urea molecules decompose during the reaction at high temperature and a variety of reaction products are obtained. All complexes were isolated in moderate yields as dark green (1), yellow (2), pale brown (3) and faint green (4) precipitates, respectively. The reaction products were characterized by their microanalysis, IR, 1H and 13C NMR spectra as well as thermal analysis. General mechanisms describing the formation of these complexes were suggested.
