This study was carried out to investigate the distribution and habitat types of prickly lettuce, Lactuca scariola of Europe origin for supplying the basic data of management plan. It showed fairly nation-wide distribution although excessive growth was rather limited in the wild. Its habitat types were divided into four types like open fields, roadsides, seashores and riversides. Species diversity examined by species rank-dominance curve tended to increase over riverside > seashores > open fields > roadsides. As a result of analyzing life form, therophytes were more than 50%, means that the habitats of L. scariola were disturbed by human activities etc. Urbanization Index was analyzed 9.1% in roadsides, 7.4% in seashores, 5.8% in open fields and riversides. It has high spread potential with a large number of wind-flying seed per plant. It was evaluated that prickly lettuce was mainly spread along the newly constructed road, expressway and invaded the original ecosystem in the cultivated land as weeds. But it has played a role as a pioneer species in open fields. It is recommended to remove where it has considerable impact on the native plant species of conservation value.

In this study, recent trends of the annual precipitation, the annual maximum precipitation of different durations and the rain days over several thresholds(i.e. 0, 10, 20, 40, 60 and 80 mm/day) according to the different local features were analyzed using daily precipitation data of 59 weather stations between 1973 and 2009. To analyze the variability according to the regional characteristics, 59 weather stations were classified by elevations, latitudes, longitudes, river basins, inland or shore(east sea, south sea, west sea) area and the level of urbanization. Results demonstrated that overall trend of variables increases except rain day. Results according to the regional characteristics showed that the increase trend becomes stronger with elevation increase. The increase trend of Han river basin is largest and that of Youngsan river basin is smallest. Also the increase trend becomes stronger with latitude increase and that of East coast is larger than that of South coast since it may be caused by the regional difference of elevation. The increase trend of urban area is larger than that of rural area. Overall trend showed that increase trend becomes stronger with elevation and latitude increase.

This study aims to examine the traditional living space to reflect the environment-friendly design methods and principles of reestablishment. To do so, this study carried on a related literature study and field survey. The traditional living space in terms of the environmental friendliness is reflected on site selection and space composition, and utilization of natural energy and natural materials. Focused on the Kwangajeong in Yangdong Village, this study is to identify eco-friendly techniques on the traditional living space. As a result, it shows that Kwangajeong with the side of the southeast in site selection had been considered in aspect of environmental control such as sunshine and solar radiation. Also building construction techniques had been used to minimize the variation of terrain. In aspect of environmental conservation, Kwangajeong had structurally arranged the gate, an inner yard and an inner floor to allow good ventilation. In aspect of space composition, Kwangajeong with the emphasis of scenic view had utilized the methods that attract external landscape through the control of its fences. Environment-friendly techniques and control principles in traditional space had been developed by a long experience through the long periods and the traditional techniques suitable for local climate and local environment have been developed. The technical development of these techniques to resolve the global environmental and energy issues and create a more pleasant living environment of human beings might be critical.

This study analyzed the influencing factors for urban redevelopment projects with a relatively long project duration in the context of Seoul's increasing urbanization rate and aging. Among the business areas that have been designated since 2005 and have been approved for the management and disposal plan of the entire Seoul area, 75 business areas have been set as targets. A hedonic price model was used to analyze the project area, economic, and locational characteristics as independent variables with the project duration from designation of zones to approval of management and disposal plans as dependent variables. As a result of the analysis, the smaller the project area, the larger the area occupied per union member, the larger the land price change rate, and the smaller the KOSPI index, the shorter the required period. This study has the distinction of empirically analyzing the effect of characteristic variables considering size and economic and locational characteristics on period. It provides implications that the area of the business area, the number of union members, and economic conditions should be considered when establishing a business area.

Research trends can be usefully used to determine the importance of research topics by period, identify insufficient research fields, and discover new fields. In this study, research trends of urban spaces, where various problems are occurring due to population concentration and urbanization, were analyzed by topic modeling. The analysis target was the abstracts of papers listed in the Korea Citation Index (KCI) published between 2002 and 2019. Topic modeling is an algorithm-based text mining technique that can discover a certain pattern in the entire content, and it is easy to cluster. In this study, the frequency of keywords, trends by year, topic derivation, cluster by topic, and trend by topic type were analyzed. Research in urban regeneration is increasing continuously, and it was analyzed as a field where detailed topics could be expanded in the future. Furthermore, urban regeneration is now becoming a regular research field. On the other hand, topics related to development/growth and energy/environment have entered a stagnation period. This study is meaningful because the correlation and trends between keywords were analyzed using topic modeling targeting all domestic urban studies.

This study was carried out to investigate the flora of the Hanbando wetland (Yeongwol-gun, Gangwon-do) from April 2019 to May 2020. Vascular plants were grouped into 508 taxa, comprising 93 families, 309 genera, 456 species, 10 subspecies, 37 varieties, and 5 forms. Among the investigated 508 taxa, 2 endangered species, 8 rare plants, and 8 endemic plants were identified. The specific plants by floristic region were grouped into 71 taxa including, 3 taxa of grade V, 10 taxa of grade IV, 15 taxa of grade III, 17 taxa of grade II, and 26 taxa of grade I. Naturalized and ecosystem disturbing plants were grouped into 57 taxa and 5 taxa, respectively. The percentage of naturalized plants species and urbanization index were estimated to be 11.2% and 17.8%, respectively. This study provides important basic information for the efficient management of Hanbando wetland, which possess a high conservation value since it is forms part of the list of Ramsar wetlands.
This study was investigated to find out the distribution of flora and remarkable plants and factors and management measures for influx of wild disturbed plants in the Damyang area of Mudeungsan National Park. The field survey was carried out 8 times from May 2019 to October 2020. First of all, in the Damyang area of Mudeungsan National Park, a total of 603 taxa in 107 families, 349 genera, 531 species, 57 varieties, 5 subspecies and 10 forms. This result was found to be about 12.33% of the total 4,881 taxa of vascular plants in Korea. In addition, Rare plants were classified as 15 taxa. Floristic special and Korean endemic plants were identified as 85 taxa and 13 taxa, respectively. Lastly, the naturalized plants that appeared in the Damyang area of Mudeungsan National Park were observed in 45 taxa with 45 species of 16 families and 36 genera. Moreover the naturalization rate was 7.46% and the urbanization index was calculated to be 14.01%. The wild disturbed plants were found in a total of 4 taxa. Especially, a sheep sorrel(Rumex acetosella) was focused on managing for physica and biological control at Sinseondae Eoksaepyungjeon.
Water resources which is formed of surface and groundwater, are considered as one of the pivotal natural resources worldwide. Since last century, the rapid population growth as well as accelerated industrialization and explosive urbanization lead to boost demand for groundwater for domestic, industrial and agricultural use. In fact, better management of groundwater can play crucial role in sustainable development; therefore, determining accurate location of groundwater based groundwater potential mapping is indispensable. In recent years, integration of machine learning techniques, Geographical Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) are popular and effective methods employed for groundwater potential mapping. For determining the status of the integrated approach, a systematic review of 94 directly relevant papers were carried out over the six previous years (2015-2020). According to the literature review, the number of studies published annually increased rapidly over time. The total study area spanned 15 countries, and 85.1% of studies focused on Iran, India, China, South Korea, and Iraq. 20 variables were found to be frequently involved in groundwater potential investigations, of which 9 factors are almost always present namely slope, lithology (geology), land use/land cover (LU/LC), drainage/river density, altitude (elevation), topographic wetness index (TWI), distance from river, rainfall, and aspect. The data integration was carried random forest, support vector machine and boost regression tree among the machine learning techniques. Our study shows that for optimal results, groundwater mapping must be used as a tool to complement field work, rather than a low-cost substitute. Consequently, more study should be conducted to enhance the generalization and precision of groundwater potential map.

Urban green spaces offer a variety of benefits to living things and humans. However, existing green spaces have been reduced and fragmented due to urbanization, and there is a limit to creating new large green spaces in densely developed cities. Street trees have fewer restrictions on land use, which can be a measure to secure green areas in cities. In Korea, excessive pruning is being done on some street trees for reasons such as blocking of building signboards, contact with electric wires, and restrictions on sidewalk widths. Therefore, it is necessary to quantitatively understand the relationship between the benefits provided by street trees and their structures to come up with an efficient and systematic planning and management plan for urban street trees. In this study, we quantitatively analyzed the relationship between the thermal comfort improvement by the shades of street trees and the vertical structure, planting environment, and types of street trees. To calculate the thermal comfort felt by human body, we calculated UTCI (Universal Thermal Climate Index) of each street tree. For the vertical structure of street trees, we used Terrestrial LiDAR and the point clouds of street tree's crown was sliced vertically at 1m intervals. We conducted a multiple regression analysis on the thermal comfort improvement using the variables we obtained from fields. As a result, in the case of a street tree's vertical structure, the lager the volume of tree's crown located 3-4m (β=0.298, p<.05) and 6-7m (β=0.568, p<.001) above clear length, the better the cooling effect. In addition, the thermal comfort improvement was assessed to decrease as the DBH increased (β=-0.435, p<.001). In general, the crown diameter and DBH are positively correlated, with a cooling effect occurring as crown diameter increases. In this study, the opposite result was obtained due to the small number of trees measured, so additional research is needed by increasing the number of tree samples. In the case of the planting environment, the effect of improving thermal comfort was higher in the shaded area of trees planted to the south (β=-0.541, p<.001). Since unsystematic management of street trees can deteriorate the function of them, quantitative evaluations of the vertical structure of street trees are required, which can provide specific measures for planning and management of urban street trees with thermal comfort effect.
