  • In order to evaluate the normal eruption time of Korean permanent teeth, the uthor had examined the eruption phases of permanent central incisors in 714 malw and 581 female children aged from 4.5 to 9-year old and analysed. The eruption was divided into 3 phases; the tip of crown can be seen, the half of the crown can be easily seen, and full length of the crown can be seen. The obtained results were as follows : 1. It seemed that percentage of the erupting and erupted permanent central incisor in female by age was higher than that of male. 2. In general, percentage of the erupting and erupted lower central incisor by age was higher than that of upper first molar.

  • Daylight collapse have been occurred by about 5.0m deep at ground surface and collapse of the crown head part of the tunnel have connected to the ground surface during first step of shotcrete work after blasting of upper half section of the tunnel driving at two-way double track tunnel face section on highway construction. This study is for a successful illustration case for the earth improvement method through applying such strengthening methods as cement milk grouting, S.G.R grouting,, steel pipe reinforced multi-step grouting etc. for the purpose of earth strengthening of loosened earth block occurred by tunnel collapse.

  • The impact behavior of a multigirder concrete bridge under single and multiple moving vehicles is studied based on correlated road surface characteristics. The bridge structure is modeled as grillage beam system. A 3D nonlinear vehicle model with eleven degrees of freedom is utilized according to the HS20-44 truck design loading in the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) specifications. A triangle correlation model is introduced to generate four classes of longitudinal road surface roughness as multi-correlated random processes along deck transverse direction. On the basis of a correlation length of approximately half the bridge width, the upper limits of impact factors obtained under confidence level of 95 percent and side-by-side three-truck loading provide probability-based evidence for the evaluation of AASHTO specifications. The analytical results indicate that a better transverse correlation among road surface roughness generally leads to slightly higher impact factors. Suggestions are made for the routine maintenance of this type of highway bridges.

  • Let k be an imaginary quadratic field, h the complex upper half plane, and let $\tau{\in}h{\cap}k,\;q=e^{{\pi}i\tau}$. In this article, we obtain algebraic numbers from the 130 identities of Rogers-Ramanujan continued fractions investigated in [28] and [29] by using Berndt's idea ([3]). Using this, we get special transcendental numbers. For example, $\frac{q^{1/8}}{1}+\frac{-q}{1+q}+\frac{-q^2}{1+q^2}+\cdots$ ([1]) is transcendental.

  • We decided Miomotegawa river was the object of our investigation since it is one of the most important salmon rivers in Japan. A great number of salmonshave returned to the river, and it was expected to contain relatively lower cation concentrations since granite is widely distributed in the river catchment area. The concentration of calcium and magnesium were less than a half of that of other major rivers. The concentration of analyzed parameters indicating water quality effect on salmons, $NO_{3},\;SO_{4}\;and\;NH_{4}$, were 1.37, 4.08 and 0.01mg/l, respectively. Most parameters down stream were greater in concentration than in the upper stream.

  • During the past fifteen and one half years, a total of 64 cases of bronchiectasis were treated by pulmonary resection. The diagnosis of bronchiectasis was made relatively easily and accurately with bronchography. The average age of onset in the present series was 21 years old. Preoperative bronchograms were taken in all cases and revealed involvement of the left lower lobe in 14 cases, the right lower lobe in one case, the right upper lobe in 3 cases, the left lower lobe anal lingular segment in 9 cases, and multilobar involvement in cases. Bronchographically 18 tubular and II saccular and 2 cystic and 2 saccular and tubular forms were noted. Various types of pulmonary resection were performed on 59 cases. Complication developed in two cases. One showed pulmonary vein bleeding and was treated completely by reoperation; the other case developed empyema.

  • A low profile asymmetrical fractal boundary patch antenna based on reactive impedance surface (RIS) and a mushroom unit cell (MUC) is proposed and studied for dual band operation. The sides of the square patch antenna are replaced with asymmetrical half circled fractal curves for circular polarization operation at patch mode band. The fractal patch antenna is loaded with MUC for dual band operation. The antenna radiation characteristics are investigated and illustrated with both simulated and experimental results in detail. The 10-dB return loss bandwidth are 8.48% (3.21-3.49 GHz) and 2.59% (2.30-2.36 GHz) at upper and lower resonance frequencies, respectively. The 3-dB axial ratio bandwidth is 4.26% (3.21-3.35 GHz). A close agreement between simulation data with experimental results is observed.

  • It is known that no two of the roots of the polynomial equation (1) $$\prod\limits_{l=1}^{n}(x-r_l)+\prod\limits_{l=1}^{n}(x+r_l)=0$$, where 0 < $r_1{\leq}r_2{\leq}{\cdots}{\leq}r_n$, can be equal and all of its roots lie on the imaginary axis. In this paper we show that for 0 < h < $r_k$, the roots of $$(x-r_k+h)\prod\limits_{{l=1}\\{l{\neq}k}}^{n}(x-r_l)+(x+r_k-h)\prod\limits_{{l=1}\\{l{\neq}k}}^{n}(x+r_l)=0$$ and the roots of (1) in the upper half-plane lie alternatively on the imaginary axis.

  • The effectiveness of using the advanced seismic protection technology based on shape memory alloy (SMA) dampers to preserve a historical minaret is investigated. The proposed studied case, the minaret of Mansourah, is a seven century old minaret located in Tlemcen, Algeria. Its original height was of 47m, while nowadays, the monument is half destructed and its current height reaches the 40m. The proposed seismic retrofit is based on the technique that utilizes SMA wires as dampers for the upper flexible part of the minaret. The effectiveness of the proposed technique is numerically evaluated via non-linear finite element analysis using the structural software ANSYS. The effectiveness of the proposed device in mitigating the seismic hazard is demonstrated by the effective reduction in its dynamic response.

  • Let k be an imaginary quadratic field, η the complex upper half plane, and let $\tau$ $\in$ η $textsc{k}$, p = $e^{{\pi}i{\tau}}$. In this article, using the infinite product formulas for g2 and g3, we prove that values of certain infinite products are transcendental whenever $\tau$ are imaginary quadratic. And we derive analogous results of Berndt-Chan-Zhang ([4]). Also we find the values of (equation omitted) when we know j($\tau$). And we construct an elliptic curve E : $y^2$ = $x^3$ + 3 $x^2$ + {3-(j/256)}x + 1 with j = j($\tau$) $\neq$ 0 and P = (equation omitted) $\in$ E.
