  • In this paper, the stress strength model is assumed for the populations of X and Y, where distributions of X and Y are independent normal with unknown parameters. We construct bootstrap confidence intervals for reliability, R=P(X>Y) and compare the accuracy of the proposed bootstrap confidence intervals and classical confidence interval through Monte Carlo simulation.

  • A robust controller design to corrdinate a robot manipulator under unknown system parameters and bounded disturbance inputs is presented in this paper. Generally, robust controllers require high input torque so that they may face input saturation in actual application due to the power limitation of the actuator. To solve this problem, an improved robust controller with saturated input torque using a fuzzy logic control is proposed. Numerical examples are shown to validate the proposed controller using two degree-of-freedom planar arm.

  • The use of pooled standard deviation can reduce the efficiency loss in optimum allocation when strata standard deviations are estimated and several of them are equal. Also shown is that the pooled standard deviation is useful in optimum allocation under a multivariate setting. In addition to theoretical development, we provide the result of simulation study to support the theory.

  • A class of autonomous control systems with fixed unknown parameters is considered to be stabilized with respect to only a part of the variables. A certain type of such systems can be recursively adaptively partially stabilized. The bifurcation analysis reveals the nature of the closed loop system.

  • Optimum screening procedures using prior information are presented. An optimal cutoff value on the screening variable X minimizing the expected total cost is obtained for the normal model; it is assumed that a continuous screening variable X given a dichotomous performance variable T is normally distributed and that costs are incurred by screening inspection and misclassification errors. Methods for finding optimal cutoff values based on the prior distributions for unknown parameters are presented.

  • In this paper, we develope three modified empirical distribution function type tests, the modified Cramer-von Mises test, the modified Anderson-Darling test, and the modified Kolmogorov-Smirnov test for the two-parameter exponential distribution with unknown parameters based on multiply Type-II censored samples. For each test, Monte Carlo techniques are used to generate the critical values. The powers of these tests are also investigated under several alternative distributions.

  • For discrimination with binary variables, reformulated full and first order Bahadur model with incomplete observations are presented. This allows prior probabilities associated with multiple population to be estimated for the sample-based classification rule. The EM algorithm is adopted to provided the maximum likelihood estimates of the parameters of interest. Some experiences with the models are evaluated and discussed.

  • In this paper an identification method is presented to obtain the equivalent electric circuit model of a wideband underwater acoustic piezoelectric vibrator. Unknown parameters involved in the equivalent circuit are indentified using the measured electrical admittances in air. The proposed method is applied to an example transducer. The validity of equivalent circuit model is demonstrated by the comparison between the experimental measurements and analytical calculations of TVR(transmitting voltage response) in water.

  • Identification problems for the system governed by abstract nonlinear damped second order evolution equations are studied. Since unknown parameters are included in the diffusion operator, we can not simply identify them by using the usual optimal control theories. In this paper we present how to solve our identification problems via the method of transposition.

  • In this paper, we investigate some measures as tests of multivariate normality based on principal components. The idea was proposed by Srivastava and Hui(1987). They generalized Shapiro-Wilk statistic for multi variate cases. We show the null distributions of the statistics do not depend on the unknown parameters and mention the asymptotic null distributions. Also power performance of the tests are assessed in a Monte Carlo study.
